As backer of the colored version of HeroForge you can also use coloring your model now. Doesn't matter if you just buy the STL; but it gives you a very nice idea how the character can look like painted before actually starting doing so. And spoileralert for the colored miniatures: they are overpriced for the quality they deliver. They look nice, but not worth the high cost. Just get the STL, print yourself and give it to a pro painter and you have a better result for less money.
Not to mention that HeroForge is also more optimised. The other sites tend to run rather... _slow..._ on my laptop. Though HF CAN be resource-intensive and chew through your CPU and battery life.
I'll give desktop hero credit where it's due: it definitely has the most potential for customizability. If they clean up the features, fix the bugs, and add more variety, I can see it having unparalleled customization. You'd never be able to make a mini with only one arm, for example.
I've found that desktop hero works well with outside utilities because it doesn't charge for downloads. I can get multiple poses and tweak the model to make it easier kit bash in blender and meshmixer or setup the model so I can cut parts off to make it compatible with modular parts from other releases. I'm excited about titanforge, which they kickstarted which is basically the same thing but for monsters, from the beta version they showed off it looks like they have really enhanced the customization for the monsters (The beta version only has a beholder currently).
I have been using hero forge for a while love a lot of the options but some of the clothing options feel clunky. Just recently found eldritch foundry. I like the hair options but very limited in options for accessoriesand gear, clothes were nice. Desktop hero was OK but very hard to use as a casual 3d printer. Have to try anvl next
I'm super addicted to making figures on hero forge. I make them and take screen shots to make character art and tokens, but I have over a hundred saved miniatures.
Love the editing man another banger please keep this channel going. Love the fact you've found something you enjoy. Nice video I may have to get into DnD.
Yeah same here I know absolutely nothing about miniatures or DND and 3D Printing. It does look very interesting and can easily see how addictive it can be.
Could do with an update on this because Hero Forge has updated itself extensively. It's almost a different site these days, and soon they're releasing a face and body customiser. Eldritch is almost unusable. If you click something on the site, you get a popup advert. Get rid of the advert, and click something else, you get another popup advert. Eldritch does this on... every... single... click... you... do... all.... the... time...
Great video! It was nice to see the options as I've only used hero forge myself. As a DM who is started off in the hobby as a one time player - this is how they get ya lol welcome to the hobby!
Great vlog! This was actually something I had been looking in to recently as well! Glad to see your findings and I will definitely be checking out ANVL!
Desktop Hero's pricing is weird cause they use a different model. They charge to unlock options, but nothing to download an stl. This basically makes them better value for people with home printers the more you use them, and you can make various poses free of additional charge.
recently started messing with heroforge. yeah... i'd be broke if i was to buy all the OCs i made the past few days. OCs from a never ending story (never ending because i constantly rewrite it) : 3 sisters (triplets) with their human and angel/demon forms. . my first D&D characters! Burnzbunz (tiefling wizard) Honey Pie (human bard wizard) . then i just started playing and yeah... found my new hobby. 😁 need to take a break.
I know it's 2 years but I got in this topic now and desktop hero really got better (now titan craft) and for me as dm the possibility to buy assets and make several minis for no extra cost is the best price. I did 7 minis and bought 2 asset packs for ~50 $. Thats the same price i would have payed hero forge for this. Now I can make as many more as I want. And because I play a lot and need npcs too I can make them with the same equipment for free now. I even can make the character with different poses for different situations. For free now. Your Charakter got an animal companion? Or now he uses another weopon? I can change that and I only have to pay If I use assets I haven't bought as a pack. There are free assets too if you want to try.
I like the idea of these but I dislike the pricing over all, I dislike the whole pay per model since I'm printing it myself (I get it with having them print it out and shipping it to ya. if heroforge did a buy it outright for 50 or even 100 bucks it'd be worth it.
I hate how for basically every type of tabletop resource sci-fi assets are a clear afterthought if they're included at all. I feel kinda oversaturated with classic/historical fantasy but it's hard to find anything else.
Recently bought anvl and heroforge minis for a self study and the anvl is definitely more brittle for what they claim to be premium plastic will be buying hero forge solely in future
These sites are great at letting players design their own mini for Tabletop Simulator. Unfortunately most of the female models suffer from a severe case of man face, so some of my PC's are a little unhappy.
Colour 3d printing isn’t a “new” technology; I was working with a z-corp colour 3d printer more than ten years ago, and the bureau the company bought that off had been running similar kit for years.
As for now, I believe the other have nothing to compete against Hero Forge. It is the best one by far. Today it has so many more stuff than in the time the video was made. Although I would love it if Hero Forge had way more hair and face customization and make the clothing work by parts (sleeve, chest, etc.) instead of choosing the full torso. Also, the proportions and anatomy of Hero Forge characters are not really human, making the characters very big headed and their bodies are weird.
You can change a lot of proportions to something you like better. That sort of cartoonish chibi style is good for miniatures because it shows personality at small scale, but of course more options is always better.
As the sickness takes hold. All I can say is watch for the slippery slope. Don't start something new if you haven't finished the last thing. This keeps you from overspending. Learn from my mistakes. lol.
Hero Forge need to have better definition in their bodies, it's really boring to make a barbarian with their default outfit because the chest and arms doesn't have any muscularity to them. They aren't well defined. Same issue with ANVL. ANVL did actually have a better modelled chest but that was a "thin chest" so while the arms where better defined the chest was very skeletal.
Thank you for bringing my attention to Anvil, the options it has I think are the only one that really rivals heroforge in having aesthetically pleasing characters. Eldritch foundry's minis just frustrate me, they all seem so ugly for seemingly no reason and their options for less human races is abysmal, desktop hero is definitely for filler humans and elves or super basic players. Heroforge is king for customization, but it is expensive, anvil seems like the middle ground between low cost and customization. Still no kobolds or goblins but I can make do. It's not like heroforge goblins or kobolds are my style anyway.
so cheap didnt even download all the versions to compare them...and didnt give desktop hero a fare chance, just because you dont know how to use it doesn't mean it sucks. it is actually very good when you invest the time to learn it, but i guess you needed content asap.

Is the colouring available only to backers? I couldn’t see the option anywhere?
Geek Print i think so yes. It‘s in Early Access stage I believe.
Sismanski Ah ok, I look forward to getting to play with it!
@@geekprint3416 Remember you asked for the color tool feature? They just announced it will be released to the public at September 29th.

Yeah, exactly... like I said in the video, you need some townsfolk, armies etc... super good for that!

Not to be a hero forge sheep or anything but they just added arm options
But also remember desktop hero is made by 1 guy iirc
Just cut the other arm off

So cool to see all the options each site has and how creative you can be when making a character! 👍 Awesome video as usual 😁
Thanks so much :)
I'm super addicted to making figures on hero forge. I make them and take screen shots to make character art and tokens, but I have over a hundred saved miniatures.
My house is full of half painted minis and yet watching you have so much fun makes me want to buy a 3D printer.
I'm quickly getting there myself :(
Love the editing man another banger please keep this channel going. Love the fact you've found something you enjoy. Nice video I may have to get into DnD.
Thanks Dave!
Wow, I can totally see how this would be super addictive :D
Good luck with that self-control ;)
Thanks! 😄 It's not going well lol
Loving these videos. 3D printing is something I know nothing about so it's really interesting to watch and learn new stuff. Loved this. Keep it up

I like hero forge but I want to play as gridaglow, which has tentacles or a naga which lacks arms
I honestly just want to make little models, too! So watching you do it is fantastic!
You can do it! It's very soothing :D
I may or may not have around 400 Hero Forge characters, just because each time my players encounter something I want them to have a reference.
I know it's 2 years but I got in this topic now and desktop hero really got better (now titan craft) and for me as dm the possibility to buy assets and make several minis for no extra cost is the best price. Another great video yet again from the man, the myth, the absolute legend! Keep it up buddy 😊😊👋🏻
You are the Legend! Thanks for watching :)
How's this stack up with the recent updates Hero Forge has introduced?
Which one is the best in Canada?
I'd love to see a review of custom portrait makers as well.
What program is that @ 0:40 for D&D dungeon?
Your vlogs and gaming videos always brighten up my day. So nice to see you having fun :)
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks so much :)

i really want a heroforge type program in which you can create custom monsters
these are all good if you are looking for basic core races. bird or tengu race support are all lacking
i love building characters, im exited to try out these sites to see which one i like the best
Thanks mate , this helped alot
Recently bought anvl and heroforge minis for a self study and the anvl is definitely more brittle for what they claim to be premium plastic will be buying hero forge solely in future
I tried Eldritch Foundry and I had to ask for a refund after 4 months of not delivering the model I wanted.
Oh no, Jonti has created his own monster! You'll need a bigger house for all your models
Mwahahha! It’s alive... it’s ALIIIIIVE!!!!!

Is there a way to transform characters made on SoulCalibur (for example) into 3D printable models?
I'm ordering one soon with my Forest Gnome, Welfi. :)

Wow that’s cool. I didn’t know there are websites like this.
They are super useful and fun! Even if you don’t buy the final product, it’s fun to just design characters!

I don’t like hero forges’s version of tieflings
great overview, subbed and checking out your other content too. thanks for making it.

There's a musculature option that adds muscles and definition in the body options menu.
eldritch foundry lets you have chained weapons with actual chains
So does hero forge
@@pixwool as in, actual flexible metal chain with links and all, not 3d printed stiff plastic
Mister Y Oh, right.

Definitely going to print some of the anvil minis.
You’re I think like the 3rd UA-camr I’ve seen with the same name. Stating to make middle school me feel real unoriginal 😂
Hero Forge is definitely my favorite but I do enjoy that Eldritch Foundry seems to its own story. ua-cam.com/video/7J6svfcSdZw/v-deo.html
eldrtich foundry needs to simplify its menus, it tooke me way to long to figure out how to use everything
