They should've started with a capsule collection for Uniqlo to familiarise people with the brand. Many people don't know who Helmut Lang is or what the brand stood for
I feel brands such as Helmut Lang, Paco Rabbane, Courreges and even Balenciaga have moved away from their heritage canon and history to be the trendiest thing or morphed into something totally different. Though, they are older brands but they haven't adapt with changing consumer behaviors and now they're struggling to capture a new market.
I disagree about Courreges and Paco Rabanne. I think Nicolas Di Felice and Julien Dossena have done a good job at breathing new life into the brand, much like what Nicolas Ghesquiere did for Balenciaga.
I wish they would stop trying to revive this brand and LET IT GO omfg. at the very least BRING BACK THE FRAGRANCES and only sell that. Idk why on earth they got rid of the fragrances, thats what makes these fashion brands the most revenue. Bad decision after bad decision, I'd be embarrassed at what they've done to my brand if I was Helmut Lang... but Helmut probably is done caring, he left the industry in the dust and is raising chickens on his farm in Long Island.
Same things happening at Gucci, Burberry, Dior, they must put so much pressure on commercialized collections. They need to leave these new hires to steer things the way they want, otherwise whats the point of CREATIVE DIRECTOR IF THEY MICROMANAGE EVERYTHING. Galliano is allowed his freedom. Diesel is at a similar price point but gives creative freedom both are under one umbrella. If they want to sell it at Uniqlo then they need skip the mid tier price pont and drop searching for a new creative director. Chanels next new hire will deal with pressures of keep things as is while moving forward to a younger clientele. Ive got Popcorn ready to see what Chanel CR director drama that unfolds. Rip HL.
Maybe they should stop trying to keep all these brands going when the original designer leaves or dies. As much as I loved Helmut Lang that time in the 90s has come and gone and it just doesn’t resonate in today’s world.
I always thought he put more work and detail into his own brand. Im not surprised by this news and with his brand showing in Paris this season, means brand growth.
Wow! That was fast. These new creative directors need time to get comfortable in their positions. All of this chaos is not a good look. If the owners of the brands don't have faith in the creative director, why should the customers.
It's time for some of these Houses to close. IF Helmut Lang continues?? it needs to return to a smaller company that has some passion This big- fish-eat-small-fish is Killing the industry as a whole.
Helmut Lang was artist who make clothes for his artist community. They were not high street. flashy for cash. He was well respect artist because he has and will continue have that talent. His early early drawing of his clothing to show his artist clients his ability and gain artist credits which help sell clothes to few early client. In a sense his drawing was his resume . You can tell he came from an art school. Admission art school gate keeper are all veteran artists who admitted talent and only talent to the school. Its not fashion school. they need real artist as a disigner who know nothing about . In addition long term support like karl L at Chloe.
Greed, what else? Pressure for as much as possible for as cheap as possible… until people get fed up and either leave or get turned over, “parting ways respectfully…” bullshit.. pardon the vulgarity but it’s almost becoming a trend.. and no time to nurture the team and allow the vision to come to fruition.. so sad…
I agree they are not giving Designers time to grow into the best they can do. It's funny because it seems as all the fast fashion companies have rapped all designers by taking their design concepts and commercializing it all for at least 2 decades but yet again when it comes time to let the Designer develop they can't wait. Fo r lack of a better example Karl Lagerfeld took over CHANEL in 1981 and it was in the 90's when the brand grew to what it is now, so you got to give it time. Thank you for all the content you make in this channel!
Helmut Lang is definitely a mass consumer brand now. No matter how much Do put his creative juice into this brand, the corporate structure and manufacturing process would not have matched
Just not the best match Lang was grumpy and angry artist type very edgy Peter have a very clean and commercial work Both great just not in the same spirit
*UNPOPULAR OPINION* Peter Do's creative and narrative prowess is highly overrated. The technical acumen where tailoring is concerned is indisputable, however, the collections have never seemed to be fully coherent; proportionately, texturally and the palette seems desperately reserved. His credentials(namely Phoebe's Celine) have given him too much notoriety before there has been a substantial degree of innovation in the eponymous label. Good talent, but he's definitely no trailblazing virtuoso.
Hopefully, he’ll be able to focus more on his namesake brand. I have always liked the designs of the Peter Do brand to be more interesting than the work he put out for Helmut Lang.

Nahhh it was just not a good match, Lang was very subversive Peter is a good boy type
I love Do. This industry is shifting so much. I hope he keeps his focus on his brand.
I literally just bought some Helmut Lang pieces…Do did such a beautiful job!
Good for Peter. His own brand could easily surpass the khaite’s and Toteme’s. Great video. Again 😊
Really?? His collections seem very limited in design
@ but bad arse 😄
You are quick!
I still own two coats from the Helmut Lang era that I still wear. Such great craftmanship and quality.

nooo, its was just getting great again

The idea of cutting corners for the bottom line dilutes these designers and makes these iconic brands mediocre

I love Do. This is so sad. Seems like they are looking for fast fashion designs.

Bean counters buying up high fashion brands is doomed to fail.
If you're going to tango with the big wigs you gotta sing and dance too I guess Do wasn't having any of it.
I have had some old Helmut Lang pieces. I wonder how things will change with them?🤔
First 🎉
