Yahusha Saves, thanks!! The scary thing about my comments there, was i posted that right before the covid outbreak, so i had absolutely no idea at the time, just how much more relevant this song was about to become!!
The snarky sarcasm was especially relevant at the time. More so if you were NOT studying nuclear science. It was a grim time to be in the liberal arts.
@@kellikent7599 Wound up dropping out December of 2020, so not too long after making this post. Working on getting a trucking license now though, which I've honestly wanted to do since I was a kid, so I think it worked out in the end.
This song was true when I graduated, not anymore though. 😢Sadly, you won't be needing the sunglasses.......you can't afford them anyway. My generation and before have failed you and I for one sincerely apologize and I hope you prove my comment wrong.✌️👍
So, two years out of uni with a CS degree when those were rare as hens' teeth, first trip over from the UK to the US and doing a 6 month network security consultancy for an outfit in Washington with shady connections to a certain US government agency. My boss had set me up with a nice apartment and a convertible. I was driving to work early in the morning so I needed sun glasses to stop from being blinded by the low sun. Then this came on the radio. I thought, yup... not nuclear science, but pretty close otherwise. The song's stayed with me ever since.
Graduating in the '80 i had three standing job offers all full time and good pay. These days kids can graduate with a masters level education and flip burgers or retail sales, we need to change this.
Pat revealed on VH1's 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 80s that the meaning of the song was widely misinterpreted as a positive perspective in regard to the near future. Pat somewhat clarified the meaning by stating that it was, contrary to popular belief, a "grim" outlook. While not saying so directly, he hinted at the idea that the bright future was in fact due to impending nuclear holocaust. The "job waiting" after graduation signified the demand for nuclear scientists to facilitate such events. Pat drew upon the multitude of past predictions which transcend several cultures that foreshadow the world ending in the 1980s, along with the nuclear tension at the height of the Cold War to compile the song
The problem is, you can't write a song that is 100% sarcasm and expect everyone to understand that. Sarcasm only works if it is said in a sarcastic tone of voice or thrown in to an otherwise sincere statement to make it obvious. It's no wonder people misunderstand the meaning.
Reagan doubles military budget while simultaneously cutting taxes in half. Resulting recession, I'm fresh out of school, unemployed for over a year. Thanks, Reagan.

future so bright you gotta wear shades
I want to go back to the 80's.

You don't.
It was horrible.
No money in the bank and yet this song makes it all seem trivial :)
When your futures so bright you gotta wear shades it's time to buy an over sized wallet.
Ill think I might just have to do that my friend 😊
One of my favorite songs from 1980s childhood.
Pretty much a staple of my childhood too. Was that song played in Weird Science?
Same ❤️ :)
@@Cdawg5666 It's from "My best friend is a vampire "

LOVE the snarky sarcasm of this song!! It is still incredibly relevant, especially in this day & time!
