@@tinesteethtails no worries, I honestly wouldn’t do a 5km cart with my canoe. An ultralight set up with a few portages to get to the back lake is more my speed. In fact it’s exactly what I’m doing next week. I’m currently in the planning stage. Gonna launch at Brent on cedar lake… either head up the petawawa as I’ve never seen that stretch or head north to laurel lake and down to Carl Wilson and back. Anyways great video bud… wish me luck in hooking into a big one
I'm pretty sure I figured out the name of the lake by watching the video and Jeffs map lol! If not, definitely discovered a few possible lakes to try out for a day trip. This is what happens when you're stuck inside and are dreaming about summer. I can't wait to try the salted minnow trick out. I never thought of it because of the "live" baitfish regulations.
Aha nice, there’s tons of lakes that get Hardley touched and have great fishing because of it. They might just take a bit more work to get into! Salted minnows work great, but Ontario has changed there bait regulations as of this year so just check up with specifics about transporting and disposing to possibly save yourself a headache
Brother...that is a sick canoe cart! Wheels and parts are sitting in my shop waiting for my ass to get in gear. Need to play with my buds welder. Great video!
Thanks man, thing pulls like a dream! Way better than walking 3 miles with the canoe on your shoulders that’s for sure. And heck ya get yours together, makes it so much easier getting into lakes
I’ve been going in to this lake for 18 years and you’ve never been allowed to drive in. Some people still do now, but they’re gonna get a hefty fine if they get caught
@@tinesteethtails I been fishing her 30+ .....but ya somewhere between 20yr n 30yr, but closer to 20yr they called it a cart trail only. You can see how cut the road is the log haulers were down there to about the halfway point where another road heads south .5 km to a clear cut area where they loaded the rigs. Continue south down old path mostly grown in with ground cover now and you will find a lake of bookies.
Huh I didn’t know that, I don’t mind the walk in though. Keeps the lake sheltered. I know exactly what trail you’re talking about, I’ve never been down it. Maybe I’ll have to do the hike in there one day!
@@tinesteethtails I’m in the mattawa area road looked familiar drove into cachon in the spring going to drive into nip river next week too bad you guys have to walk in
Nice, I don’t really know that area past deep river and over into the swisha. The walk in doesn’t bother me at all, it’s what keeps most guys out of this lake and the fishing super good!
We only go into this lake once a year, and we take our 3 man limit every time. If we went every other weekend and took our limit every time it wouldn’t be good for the lake. But I don’t agree that it is a rare species, theyre in a ton of lakes in this area with healthy populations.
The native range of the Lake Trout, with some exceptions, is the deep lakes of the Precambrian Shield ( only in Canada!....almost ). If, as it's claimed, Ontario has about 250,000 lakes, then if a small percentage ( 2% ) contained Lakers, Ontario would have a significant percentage, of the world's Lake Trout. Globally, it's a rare species. Laker talis - my first trip to Algonquin, I was fishing for Specks and ended up boating a 30" lunker on 4# ultralight tackle! In BC I caught a Laker on a dry fly - FUN. Happy Hookin'!
Fair enough, globally I would agree. I just thought you were implying rare as in the case of aurora trout or something. My apologies. That’s a giant speckle and that’s what make Algonquin one of my favourite spots in the world, you just don’t know what’ll hit your line next! Tight lines 🍻
And if every fisher who went into that lake took your approach?? A race to the bottom. Expand your knowledge, lake trout in Ontario are relatively rare. You're attitude is totally self serving.
Lol, the fishing in Algonquin park is awesome. You just have to go to lakes that aren’t 100 yards from a parking lot, tough I know. And 6 fish from a lake I go to once a year hardly depletes a fishery.
You would be surprised how many great fishing lakes are near parking lots. As an old fisherman said - "The fishing was so good that you had to bait your hook in your pocket!".

Give it a go, but it’s not marked as a cart path

Great video! How many colours of leadline did you have out???
Cant remember exactly. 4 or 5 I believe

@ Tents and Timber thanks, it was forsure! That lake seems to always produce for us.
Good luck this year!

you fish wilkins? lol
I have, not for a number of years though.

Just a variety of spoons, 4 to 5 inches

Aha thanks man! he always seems to be holding the hot rod!
I know exactly where this is. Take the fork to the right ;)
No forks to the right on the trail I take in.
Did you guys tip the spoons with a worm or just bare treble/single hooks ?
@parttimefisherman we use salted minnows on the spoons since live bait isn’t permitted
did you make that canoe cart ?
I personally didn’t but it is homemade
Your secret is safe with me🤫
