I’m so happy to hear you’re taking better care of yourself, and getting some more sleep 😍 I think you’ve gotten so far on your porcelaine sweater for only doing it for ten days. I totally understand how you’re used to knitting faster, but I hope you’re able to keep in mind that others would probably spend months doing that piece. It’s turning out beautiful though, and I don’t mind seeing it as a wip for a few more episodes before it’s finished ❤
Thank you! When I'm able to shake the voice that tells me I can always do more and better, I am really happy with the Porcelain! And I like the fact that the colorwork forces me to work on slower knitting, but I don't think I was quite ready for how uncomfortable slower knitting would make me, and just how much my self-worth is tied with how fast I can knit🙃 I do think the felted slippers put me in a bad mood the day I recorded though, I have days where I'm totally in love with slow knitting too😅
I have been absolute loving your podcasts. I too love making baby knits, it's actually why i learned how to knit! A few years back i tried putting myself on a yarn band and found it really stressed me out. As knitting is what helps me to calm myself and brings me joy, i noticed what i really needed was to purchase yarn with intention. It has both saved me money and helped me knit with more intention. I plan what i want to make, look into the colors and if something doesn't work out, i find a new thing to continue my journey. I think you need to buy your yarn for your slippers. It will give you back the joy you lost. ❤❤
Thank you so much!! I don't want to place myself on to strick of a yarn ban, but I need to try to stall myself a bit from buying more😂 I try to buy only yarn with a plan, but I plan a lot faster than I knit😂 So all the yarn with a plan piles up😅 I'm going to get more yarn for the slippers, though!
Hello my name is Inger and I live in Central Wyoming, USA . I live near the Wind River Mountains and our country is a semi arid high altitude desert and we are getting some cold weather. Next week -20+ F but this year so far we only have a small amount of snow. I really enjoy your channel and so sorry about your felted slippers. All of your repurposing ideas sound great. I was also thinking extra felt liners for snow boots, still keep your feet warm and you could cut and sew together to make adult size. Good luck.
i got my hair cut too - only i went full on pixie ...eek. but i love it. thank you for coming back to us so quickly! and for a whole 45 minutes which i love. 'cause i'm knitting!!! the thing is, all of you get us hooked on the many vlogmi out there through december, and then come january, we're all invested in these projects and all our knitting vlog buds are MIA and exhausted! back to steeking oline, seriously, you will be amazed at how easy it is and how fun. i did my first one with rauma vams; a cardi in a solid color, i think it was the victory cardi by the woolly thistle. it was a kit/tutorial - after that, i was hooked, and did two more steeked cardis right in a row, and am now on my fourth (the Tiodorah). and if you want the cardi version of Trouville...you Must Steek! or do purl color work? ick. you can totally learn on the 'tube. re: that 3g - girl, do it in red! something shocking! and just tell your bro that's to distinguish L from R. and who else is really going to see it, and if they do - such fun! felting tips: first, try not to look at your slippers as a failure - merely a learning time, and one we all do when felting. i've felted a crap ton of felted slippers (felted clogs:bev galeskas)(they are double soled and fabulous)(i get old leather jackets from the thrift store and cut out anti-skid plates for the bottoms and just baste them on - they are the bomb - double soles and leather bottoms!) and it always amazes me how variable the yarns are in the washing machine process. bottom line, you have to keep an eye on it, as you now know! also, i've learned to give wet slippers a hand felting with more soap, maybe try that? you've got some good ideas for what to do with the new works you created - i like the idea of 'hot pads' for the table - maybe take some thick red cord/yarn and lace up the gap? come back soon! thanks oline - libby in utah
Congrats on your haircut!! I think I have yo do some steeking this year, I've looked at it before but never dared to try. But this year is all about challenges! But I don't know what pattern I'd want to use to learn it😅 preferably something easy😅 I would just do the toe of the sock in red or any color, really, but I don't have a yarn that's similar at all. It's not really the end product that is the worst part about the slippers, I've been thinking about making "hot pads" for some time actually! But the disappointment of not getting warm, cozy slippers and knowing it's my own fault🥲 we live and we learn.
Hey, I really love your Porcelain Sweater! The colors match so nicely! 😊 Concerning your felting issue, I think it should be considered the temperature difference to the cold fresh water coming into play as last step of the washing program. Assuming you using some washing program around 30 deg, this could make a serious temperature drop. To me, this could be the reason for very strong felting as well. Maybe, as you felted the slippers for your son, this temperature difference was not this huge compared to now? Regarding the focus on knitting projects getting finished, I think you‘re doing great with your goal to be aware of knitting pressure colliding with your sleeping time. I should do so as well - we all know how damn important sleep is… 😅
Hi! I love the Porcelain, too! I think it's the prettiest thing I've ever made! That might be the issue with the felting! I don't really know what I'm doing when I'm felting stuff, I've only done it twice before😅 Hopefully it will be a good result next time! Making myself go to sleep at night is so hard! The night is prime knitting time, no one else awake to disturb me😅😂
Maybe you can use another Drops yarn from your stash to knit a new pair. There are a few examples on Ravelry. As long as it's not superwash yarn. And maybe a small one for your christmas tree. 😉 You could cut your felt into soles for the outdoor shoes. Because it's so cold outside. Sleep is so important. I’m like you, sometimes I knit the whole night. Now I track my sleep and I'm currently listening to a podcast about sleep. So that I realize how important deep sleep is and I learn something about the different sleep phases.
Thank you! I love all of these ideas! Sleep is so important, but it's still hard to prioritize sometimes😅 I love staying up after everyone has gone to bed just to get some alone time! But I'm working on not staying up as late and not as often🙈
For your brother’s sock…just use another scrap yarn and hold mohair with it for the toe. The mohair will add strength and then you don’t need to buy another skein.
Hi Oline! First off I am so sorry about the felted slippers and I could really feel your sadness. I hope it makes you feel a little better to know that you are definitely not alone when it comes to felting disasters. A few years ago I knit a beautiful colorwork bag with animals all over it, but the yarn which was supposed to felt well felted horribly so that the bag turned into ugly lumps of yarn and the colors ran! Probably others have already told you this but I think when you felt you are supposed to check the item every few minutes (easier to do if you have a top loading washer) to make sure of the size. I am glad you are going to try again with more yarn and I have great faith in you! I think that the felted slippers that you can’t use will make great hot mats like you said (actually when I saw them I pictured a bunny face and whiskers being sewn on them and the “feet”would be bunny ears - very cute!) Let us know what happens (-:
Thank you! Next time, I'm definitely going to keep a closer eye on the felting process! I'm so sorry your bag felted horribly, I can't even imagine the heartbreak of a colorwork project felting wrong. The "slippers" are finally dry now, and I think they would be perfect as hot mats! I love the idea of making them into little bunnies🤩
I'm so sorry your slippers over felted. I think using them as hot pads on the table is a great use of them!! Good you are trying to get more sleep. Your Porcelain sweater looks lovely❤
My first knits were quite questionable😂 Great way to unleash my creativity as a kid! I think my parents have saved most of what I knit, I might dig them out and look at them someday🙈
Sorry about your slippers. I have felted a lot of things including a lot of Elf Shoes Slippers. You have to watch felting carefully. We have a top loading washing machine so I stop the cycle and check it once in a while so I can catch it BEFORE IT FELTS TOO MUCH. I have someone the right foot size there when I felt to try it on and make sure it fits before I spin all of the water out of it in the spin cycle. Also, I always felt with a very old pair of jeans in the washer too for the friction needed to felt. Next time will be perfect. I like the idea of using the felted slippers for hot pads. Then the yarn will be put to good use in your kitchen.
Thank you! Next time, I'm keeping a closer eye on it! I don't think top loading washing machines are a thing in Norway, but the door of the washing machine is mostly glass so I can look inside. Thanks for the tip about the jeans🫶🏻
check your blue and white sweater on the right collar. it looks like a dropped stitch. I hope i’m wrong! It’s a beautiful pattern. i don’t have the yarn for it or i’d be casting that one on. I’m working on my Eva , as i cast it on from stash last night. ❤
Luckily I hadn't dropped a stitch, but thanks for looking out for me!! It really is a beutiful pattern, maybe the prettiest thing I've ever made. Good luck with your Eva, that's also such a wonderful pattern! Happy knitting!
I love that you’ve changed rooms with your son, you have a great space now. With the yarn on your desk, could you use it to make Christmas presents throughout the year so you take the pressure off yourself in December, plus use up the yarn you don’t want? That aside, please don’t be too harsh on yourself, you do a great job with your knitting. Your finish items are beautiful. Best wishes for 2024 knitting journey!
I love that we changed rooms too, our was too small and his too big before so this was a nice change for everyone❤️ I love the yarn on the desk aswell, it's just the yarn I don't have plans for! But I do think I could make quite a few nice Christmas gifts and ornaments from it🤩 Thank you so much!! Best of wishes for 2024🫶🏻
I'm so sorry; I've also over felted slippers too. You can use the felted fabric for other projects (felted coasters, felted cut-work to be embroidered on a wool coat, etc.)
Good job…. ❤❤❤ 🎉 all we can do is keep improving…. You are doing great.. and yes to just buy the Nepal to remake the slippers for yourself… for something immediate like that it should be an ok exception to your using stash…. Remember it’s about balance not perfection.
Happy New Year! I'd definitely finish the toe in another color if I had the same yarn or even a similar one! But since this is my first time trying the yarn, I only have the 3 skeins🥲 No one I know has tried the yarn either😅 but the idea of matching socks for my brother and my son is growing on me, it just means this year is really going to start of with all the socks and slippers😂
Happy New Year! So frustrating when we make a mistake fulling our garments. Can't help with fixing ir, but if you don't want to buy yarn and want to use up some you already have, I made a pair of the slippers using a dk/worsted weight held double and they came out perfectly. If you've already got a light grey in either of those weights, it works well an you won't have to buy more.
I feel your pain with the slippers, I did the exact same with mine 🥲 Put them on a short programme first and there were no felting, so I put them back in for a longer one and they were completely ruined. Such a shame! Hopefully next try will be better ❤
Oh no, that's most likely the problem then. Next time I'll go for the regular washing program straight away! I'm scared of felting now, but I do really want those slippers!
I feel your pain about the slippers! I made a 4ply colourwork jumper (sparkling leaves) - even dyed the wool myself so the colourwork was the colour of autumn leaves. Finished it and left it in the laundry room for blocking. Big mistake! It got swept up with the laundry and felted. I could have cried 😢. Hopefully, you can utilise the felted pieces for something? For you brother's socks, could you rip it back a bit to make it a few rows shorter and then block the foot section aggressively to recover the length?
Omg, im sorry for you! I would have cried!! 🥲 Hopefully, I'll find good use for my slippers somewhere once they dry. I've thought about shortening the foot, but I'm already afraid it's a bit short, so I don't really want to shorten it more😅
Your porcelain sweater is beautiful! I really want to make those slippers and I feel your frustration! I think they will make great trivets though, so not a complete loss. I hope you make a new pair! I ordered my first drops flora yarn to try it out, but I have no idea what I will make with it. Maybe add mohair and make a zipper sweater? Thanks for sharing all your knitting, even the fails!
Thank you! I'm happy my slippers still can be used for something, but I'm sad I'll never get to wear them🥲 I want to make them again, I just have to get over my disappointment. I love Flora! You could make so many amazing things!! Paired with Mohair, it would be a lively zipper sweater light🤩
That's sad about your slippers😔 felting of knitted item scary me now much more than earlier, but anyway i'll going to knit slippers soon too. But definitely it will be great when you'll finally do your own nice Doble Tøfler 🤩 (might if your fiance not craving to have his own right away you'll redo its for yourself once you'll be cast on slippers again😉). And glad to see your new yarn corner!😊
I'm more scared to felt things now! Good luck with your slippers! I'm definitely not making my fiancé slippers before mine, I'd die of jealousy, haha. Hopefully, I can get past the disappointment of these slippers and cast on new ones for myself soon, so the family match can happen this winter!
Unfortunately I've never felted anything before so can't give you any tips, but I understand your frustration! Buy the yarn to make those slippers if that's what makes you happy! And for the Sunday socks, maybe instead of buying a whole skein you could do a few less rounds on the leg to account for those missing 3grams? I don't think your brother will notice haha
I think I will, I'm really into the idea of gray slippers and I just cant let it go. My brother is really particular so I don't know if I want to take the chance of knitting them different lengths, but the though has crossed my mind!
I'm so sorry what happened to your slippers, I wonder if you cut them dividing the two "foot" parts you would end up with 2 pairs of slippers for some little persons feet.
Do you have a skein of yarn in your stash similar to the yarn you’re using for your brother’s socks? You could reknit the first toe in that and then use it for the 2nd toe and stretch the grey yarn for them both. This is why I like to knit toe up socks 😉
No, unfortunately, it's my first time using anything like this yarn, so I don't have anything similar. Toe up socks would definitely be helpful when playing yarn chicken😅
A word for the pot mat is ‘trivet’. I’m sorry that the felting happened but I hope you do get a good product out of it! My porcelain sweater hasn’t proceeded since I found my mistake, most of all because I want to finish my partner’s sweater right now first but I am going to frog back into pattern one so I’m behind you!
Thank you! I'm sorry it happened, too, but it feels a bit better knowing I can still get use out of it! They just have to dry😅 Oh no, discovering mistakes in colorwork is the worst! Taking a break to knit for your husband sounds lovely! Good luck!
I figure as long as more yarn is going out. I was trying to use up all my old acrylic yarn and had to buy a big ball from hobbii to finish a gift sweater for hubby. I think situation like that is ok. Buy the yarn for your slippers. Try again
That's my main goal this year too, I just had hoped to make it more than a week into the year before I had a need to by more yarn😅 I'm going to try again I think, I just need some time to get over the disappointment of the slippers
Maybe do a few rows less on the leg length of your brothers sock. I’m sure it will not be an issue that would be noticed. You would probably be fine then . Whatever you do. Good luck.
Hey, sure, I would be happy to🥰I sent you a message on ravelry because I don't have an instagram. I don't know if you got to see it. Just let me know there what color and how many and I will see if I have it 😇@@norwegianknitter

And I like the fact that the colorwork forces me to work on slower knitting, but I don't think I was quite ready for how uncomfortable slower knitting would make me, and just how much my self-worth is tied with how fast I can knit🙃 I do think the felted slippers put me in a bad mood the day I recorded though, I have days where I'm totally in love with slow knitting too😅
Love your Porcelain sweater. Enjoy the process. Sit back and admire the lovely colours developing 😀
Thank you! I'm trying to learn to just sit back and enjoy!

I try to buy only yarn with a plan, but I plan a lot faster than I knit😂 So all the yarn with a plan piles up😅
I'm going to get more yarn for the slippers, though!
I am so sorry about your slippers! I like your idea to make hot pads from them. They will keep your table safe from burns.
Yes, I think they will be perfect for that! So luckily I'll still be able to get some use out of them!
I love your podcasts. Really look forward to each episode. Sometimes I end up buying extra yarn just to save on shipping costs 😂.
Thank you so much!! You made my day🥹🫶🏻 I also have a bad habit of buying more to "save" on shipping🙈

Hi have a goggle with felt slippers template. You could use the felt and with by blanket stitch together make some slippers for your son.

I'm so sorry your slippers over felted. I think using them as hot pads on the table is a great use of them!! Good you are trying to get more sleep. Your Porcelain sweater looks lovely❤
Thank you! Good thing we are actually in need of more hot pads😅 I'm love the Porcelain🤩
Omg you learned to knit at 5!!! I’m struggling at 48 lolol
My first knits were quite questionable😂 Great way to unleash my creativity as a kid! I think my parents have saved most of what I knit, I might dig them out and look at them someday🙈

check your blue and white sweater on the right collar. it looks like a dropped stitch. I hope i’m wrong! It’s a beautiful pattern. i don’t have the yarn for it or i’d be casting that one on.
I’m working on my Eva , as i cast it on from stash last night. ❤

You could put them in the bottom of your son’s boots. They would add warmth and water protection.
I like that idea! I might do that on purpouse later with thinner yarn. I think my felted slippers would make to thick of a fabric to fit in boots

Thank you! I'm wondering about that myself, but I think they might be to felted and stiff to wear comfortably🥲
They just have to dry😅
Oh no, discovering mistakes in colorwork is the worst!
@@norwegianknitter I want to felt some mittens for me and my son and I am nervous too
Life balance is good keep trying to stick with your resolution
I'm going to stick to it!
I love your hair!!! How many inches did you cut off the length?
I think somewhere between 5 and 6 inches! Thank you so much!!
use the felted slippers as hot pads for food or pot holders… Dont be said .. They can be repurposed
I think that's what I'm going to do! But I'm still a bit sad it didn't turn out as I had hoped
Wedding dress? Did you decide if you want to make it?
I do want to make it! But I'm not decided on when to start and what yarn to use😅 hopefully I'll be ready by February!
😍😍

Maybe do a few rows less on the leg length of your brothers sock. I’m sure it will not be an issue that would be noticed. You would probably be fine then . Whatever you do. Good luck.
Thank you! My brother is pretty particular about his clothing😅 so I'm trying to make them as identical as possible!
Hai... My name is Lusi. I am from Indonesia.
Knit 2 rounds less on the leg and it goes fine
I don't think 2 rounds less will save me enough yarn, and any more than that would be quite noticable😅
just weigh all my yarn the other day and find out that i have 21 kg in total , so yarn ban for me for the rest of this year
That's about how much I have right now😅 I'm also on a yarn ban now, except gifts😅 I need to decrease my stash😂
@@norwegianknitter same situation here, but I want to knit of what i have until i don't have to more knitting projects.
@lydiadrews1240 I'm trying to knit through all my plans too, it'll probably take me years😅😂
Something happened to my comment, I don't see it anymore 🤷♀
Anyway, I can gladly send you some drops Nepal, check your ravelry messages ;)
Thank you so much. You're too generous!
Hey, sure, I would be happy to🥰I sent you a message on ravelry because I don't have an instagram. I don't know if you got to see it. Just let me know there what color and how many and I will see if I have it 😇@@norwegianknitter
