    I tried grilling on mine a few times but it just doesn't taste good to me. Doesn't have a good crust/char, and the juiciness it gives just doesn't taste good to me - almost seems watery. I ended up going back to my charcoal grill for burger duties.

      Thanks for the question. I have not. I really want to do one....the problem is that I can't really find one in my area, and if I do it's a really bad brisket. Most people in South Georgia do pork butts which I love, but not many around here are willing to try one and they don't sell so stores don't offer them. If I can get my hands on one I will certainly film it. Thanks again.

    Jus' Piddlin, Great video. I'm looking to purchase an alternative grill to my Big Joe Kamado Grill (which I love) and was interested to learn what you and others feel regarding cost for fuel (wood pellets) I know with my lump coal...I get more bang for my buck over propane as well as standard charcoal when using my old Weber Grill ( haven't used for a few years now since purchasing Kamado Big Joe Grill. Anyway, keep those video's going. We all appreciate em'.

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  7 років тому +6

      Thanks for watching and the encouraging words brother. I really appreciate that! One of my concerns when I bought this smoker was the cost of fuel. A few things to consider, as I can only speak for what I am personally doing. My first comparison is to my gas grill. It was costing me about 20 - 22 dollars to exchange a tank on my gas grill, and especially in the summer it might last about 3 weeks. I look at a bag of pellets as a tank of gas. Comparable price for the brand that I am using, but I think that I do use a little more fuel than I did with gas. The difference is that if I wanted smoke, I had to purchase chips or chunks as well.
      The other consideration is brand of fuel. I am using BBQr's Delight pellets. There is not doubt that I could find cheaper pellets, probably about half the cost, but I like sticking with a brand that I can trust. I may experiment with another brand eventually, but right now I'm sticking with this brand. My brother says PitBoss brand and B and B brand pellets are good for the price.
      Compared to charcoal/lump, the charcoal/lump is cheaper, but for me, I'm willing to pay a little more for the flavor and quality of the end product that I am getting from the pellet smoker. I know that is a long answer, but I hope this helps answer your question. Thanks again.

    I was thinking about getting one of these Silverbac Grills. Great price. Only drawback it that there is no way to clean out the hopper unless you unscrew the honeycomb and scoop it out, and cleaning the ash out is not very user friendly From what I have seen. Do you know of an easier way to access both of those? I've narrowed my choices down need to get another person's opinion that is not employed by Grilla Grills.

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  7 років тому

      Good point MeatHead! I just removed the honeycomb safety shield from the hopper. 4 screws and it comes right out and I haven't put it back in. I cleaned mine out this passed Saturday to try a different pellet, and I just scooped it out with a bowl. Didn't take any longer than it would any other way. I hope this helps.

    I am looking to purchace a Grilla Silverbac thanks for the video. Size wise, could you tell me how many slabs of baby backs do you believe would fit on the Silverbac? I am trying to figure out the grill size. Also, what is your opinion of the Silverbac? do you use the added front Shelf ? is the shelf worth it? lastly, what is your opinion of the All Terrain ? thanks Vince from South Florida

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  Рік тому +1

      I don't have the Silverbac anymore, but I'll try to answer. I would say at least 6 racks of baby backs on there, maybe more. I'm not sure how it is configured now. I used the front shelf a lot. The all terrain was nice, but the tires would flatten on the bottom side if you leave it setting in one spot very long, and it is tip heavy when you pull it because the hopper is on the opposite end with the weight.

    • @VinceDrawdy
      @VinceDrawdy Рік тому

      thanks for the reply. I appreciate your input. So, the Silverbac is still top heavy even with the All Terrain?.. thanks

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  Рік тому

      I wouldn't say top heavy as much as "hopper heavy".....in other words when you pull the handle, especially on an uphill slope, the front tires tend to want to come off the ground. Similar to the chimp in that respect.

      Hey S MoK! Thanks for tuning in! My suggestion to you would be to weigh how much you want to be involved with the fire/heat maintenance during your cook. You can do steaks, chicken, burgers, and dogs on both the Kong and the Silverbac. The difference for me is the ability to focus more on the food with the Silverbac rather than maintaining temp. The Silverbac does that for me. Hope this helps.

    I'm considering a pellet smoker grill, but my wife is concerned about a smoky taste when it's not wanted. Can you grill marinated chicken or other foods but not get the smoky flavor over powering the flavor of the marinade?

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  7 років тому

      To be honest with you Anthony, I have yet to cook anything that was close to being too smoky so far. Everyones tastes are different, but the smoke flavor for me on this grill is a subtle flavor addition to any seasonings or marinades that you use. Also if you use a mild wood like pecan for example, that will make the smoke flavor mild as well. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps.

      Thanks for watching Jeremy! I was using a mix of Mesquite and Cherry BBQR's Delight pellets. It will vary a little depending on the pellets you use. Oak, hickory, and mesquite will burn hotter than fruit woods. Usually takes about 15 minutes or so.

    OK, my only worry is the pellet smoker being able to HOLD temperature. I have a Camp Chef and if I set it for 350 dg it will vary from 30 to 40 dg while cooking. I have yet to see a pellet smoker that will hold a constant tempt. I would not mind a 10 dg plus or minus. How does the Silverbac pellet smoker hold up to maintaining Temperature ?

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  6 років тому +1

      Hi James. This may be a long answer but I want to be clear on my answer. The first thing to remember is that the controller on any pellet grill is trying to control a wood fire, not a heating element. A fire, unless fueled by regulated natural gas/propane, is going to be difficult to regulate to +/- 10 degrees. If you have an electric oven, even though it has a heating element, it will not hold a +/- 10 degree temp either.....the difference is that it is not displayed on your oven display for you to see. I just had someone ask me a similar question. She said she had her pellet smoker (another brand) set at 250, but it had varied between 318 - 180 back and forth for a 5 hour cook and she was frustrated. But think of it this way....if you add 318 + 180 and divide by 2, it comes out to 249! One degree off from her set temp. That's pretty dang accurate for a 5 hour cook considering she was using a tailgater model. In my opinion, people are WAY too hung up on "holding temp" with these pellet grills instead of average temp. I hope this helps.

    • @jamestaylor350
      @jamestaylor350 6 років тому

      Thank you for your reply. When I cook with charcoal on my weber, I can hold temperature, lets say 225, right on the money, and keep it there all day, plus or minus 5 dg. Not a problem. I like pellet smokers but have learned not to buy one unless I can do a test cook or observe one being used in person. The Silverbac was impressive however the video only shows when there is heavy smoke being produced and gives you the impression that it does this during the entire cooking and I feel sure that this is not the case. I might be wrong .Thank you for the education on the temperature variation, it makes sense.
      I have been judging and cooking in completion since 1992. I could not tell you how many grills I have owned and cooked on since then. My favorite all time smoker is the "Ole Hickory" Very expensive but it's a gem to cook on. Now I just need to find someone with a Silverbac smoker so I can give it a try before I purchase one. Thanks again for your information
      James Taylor
      Olive Branch Ms

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  6 років тому

      I completely understand James. I too own a weber and can dial in temps with really precise accuracy, but there is not flame to regulate. Billowing smoke is not present throughout the entire cook, and it wasn't my intent to give that impression. Keep in mind that some of the smoke you see in the middle of the video is from the burger grease on the drip pan. There is thin, faint, blue smoke present throughout the cook, and medium to heavy at times, which is due to the temp swing. This is a reason that I feel pellet grills shouldn't "hold" at a specific temp. If it does, then there is less smoke flavor. If it swings, this gives the grill the opportunity to add additional pellets (smoke), then calm back down. Over an 8 hour cook, I get intermittent billows of smoke over the longevity of the cook due to the temp swing.

      My Silverbac holds constant at 5* above setpoint, when it adds pellets it will rise 5* for a few minutes but 75% of the time it’s right on the money.

    I'm trying to decide which pellet grill to purchase and it's tough to decide; Grilla grills, Camp Chef Woodwind, Green Mountain or Red Tec. I've looked for HOURS on UA-cam reviews and I wish I could find a comparison review with all 4 but all anyone compares to is Traeger:( If I could afford it, I would buy all 4 and do it myself!) But I digress...
    CC rocks when it comes to clean out and the sear box, but, I'm new to this pellet thing so does that gas sear box make it "unpure?" GMG and Rec Tec seem like high quality grills, great logic board monitoring except kudos to GMG with the WiFi and Rec Tec wins with looks. Grilla grills? I haven't even heard of them until tonight.
    I'm wanting to get one ASAP but I need to get as much info as possible since this whole pellet thing is new to me and I can't grill a steak to save my life.
    Thank you and I look forward to your response!

      Right from the start I will say DO NOT BUY A GMG!!! IMO they are flimsy and built like a tin can. i know that they have wifi, but to me it is not worth the extra price, it is something else to tear up, and the grill is just not made well. I did alot of research before I purchased my pellet smoker, and this is one of the first ones I looked at. Traeger is flimsy to me as well, my brother sells them.......and they are better than GMG. Rec Tec IMO is overpriced, doesn't fit my wallet, and the company just seems arrogant IMO.......and I'm just not a fan of the bull horns. Looks cartoonish to me. I couldn't be happier with my purchase...the build quality, customer service, and price point are all unmatched in my opinion. Some like wifi. I think it is a waste, and why grill if you aren't going to enjoy the smell of the smoke and sit in your living room? It's just not my style. As far as the pellet dump, that would be convenient, but it takes me about 2 min. to scoop out pellets and put new ones in. No big deal to me. So that is my rundown of what I think.....not that I'm an expert, but it is some things to think about. I hope this helps.

    How long does it take to get to temp? From 0-425 degrees?

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  7 років тому

      Hey Brad. Thanks for the question. 15 mins max.....but I rarely cook at that temp. I'm usually between 275 - 350, but I would say about 15 mins depending on ambient temps and the flavor of pellets used. Some will burn hotter than others. I hope this helps.

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  7 років тому

      DON'T DO IT BRAD!!! Lol. I have shopped around for pellet grills before I bought mine, and the GMG was probably the worst built out of all of them. The day my Silverbac was delivered, all I could think was "Please don't let this be like the flimsy GMG!" . Luckily, it was way way better. The Silverbac is built much better, lid is much heavier. That is my honest 2cents.

    • @B88S88
      @B88S88 7 років тому

      Yeah traeger has to be most poorly build pellet grill since they moved manufacturing to China. But other than Pit Boss and GMG Daniel Boone you beat the price with all the extra features. $550 for GMG is a pretty good price. But the Grilla Grill does look nice. Just wish I could see it in person.

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ

      I have seen both in person now, and there is no comparison from a quality standpoint. I will say that Louisiana Grills are pretty good too. Good luck with your choice.

    Is flare ups a problem on this grill?

    • @JusPiddlinBBQ
      @JusPiddlinBBQ  5 років тому

      There are no flare ups at all with a pellet smoker unless you don't keep your grill clean. The flame and the grill grate are separated by the heat shield and the drip pan. All of the grease hits the drip pan and goes into the grease can. I line my drip pan with foil for easy cleanup.
