My Grandfather was a Master Carpenter, he learned his trade in the 1920's before the war in the UK. I wish he was still alive to see your amazing skill with wood. He would have loved your videos. I inherited his love of wood but not his talent for making things. Much respect to you Sir.

I always come back to look at this set from time to time. It's just too beautiful to forget. Personally the design on the square's aren't in my taste. But I love everything else. Especially the peices. Chess is such a beautiful thing whether you're playing it or just having the peices sit pretty in your home

It’s 2022. I’ve watched the entire series and this is an amazing set. Did you ever mention how the marble goes in her crown? I can guess how If it went in before finish but I believe the marble went in after finish so I have no idea how the marble went in. Would you tell us please
Thank you. I sanded the marble flat on one side, just enough to squeeze it in.
That’s why you sanded them! I didn’t put those things together
The placing of the queens and kings are wrong in your set up.
But the handcrafted chess set itself is AMAZINGLY WELL MADE AND BEAUTIFUL!!
I just sat and watched the whole series, absolutely gorgeous, you are a artist. Although I'm still scratching my head how you got the marble inside the queen. hmmm 🤔

How long did it take? I love to work with wood but my ex husband didn't allow me. Now finally I can learn it. But I think I never get this good.
you should make matching stools, a white stool with the sun on the seat for the white and a brown stool with the bird on the seat for the brown side

Man I've been looking at vids on you tube for a few tips on making my own chess board. Out of all the things I have seen and awed over, none in my opinion come close to the craftsmanship skill,integrity for detail and just pure visionary, as what you have done here. I recall you mentioned during the build videos that you would sell this piece once completed. At the time i was surprised you would let go of something you devoted so much time to. It seems you have had a change of heart and thats a good thing!
If i produced just one thing so magnificent as this in my lifetime, Id be pretty happy to ride out the rest of my days in satisfaction.

+Albert Kelly normally I would keep this masterpiece forever, however, having two of my three daughters in collage at the same time is a financial strain to no end. I'm sure if someone can buy a diamond studded cell phone case for more than I make in my lifetime, maybe just maybe someone might recognize the hard work and dedication that goes into a project like this. Besides if I do sell it, that will give me the incentive to try and make it again. Right now I'm working so much I hardly have the time for my passion, woodworking.

I agree with all the eulogizing comments made about this masterpiece of a chess set. However let me break the mould by making a point here: the squares should not have been carved, but left plain light brown for white, and black or dark ebony for black. The carved design on each of the squares is an eye and brain distraction which serious chess players would like eliminated. Otherwise, a great masterpiece.
I wonder why the bishop doesn't have the crystal ball, i mean the resin
by the way,marble in the queen. soak in water and pressure fit?
nope!
Dont know if it would work but cracking the marble and putting it back together?
I sand the bottom of the marble to make a flat spot to glue in. this makes the marble just fit in if you tilt it on an angle.
