I got to play this FOR Soon Hee Newbold herself when I was college. I was performing with the Shoals Symphony Orchestra in Florence, Alabama at the Annual Alabama Music Educators Association Conference back in 2016 where she was in attendance. We got to perform a concert where this piece was the final piece in the program and I got to play timpani on this piece with her in the audience. Afterwards, we got to host a score reading session with her conducting us. Such fun!!!!
It's so much fun to play this song. I really get into it and just let loose, though, I seem to be one of about three cellos that actually do that out of the 12 we have in our orchestra
I got to meet the composer for this song for my orchestra class, she said warrior legacy was made to sound like a hero story and it was made for graduating students.
The orchestra that I played this with had nine basses and every powerful bass part you could just feel in your bones. My absolute favorite piece I’ve ever played.
Will NO ONE who has played this acknowledge the viola part? It's pretty epic in my opinion. Sure, the viola may not be as well known as the violin, cello or bass, but it has a part in the orchestra, too!
I'm late but I remember we were missing our violas and all the other sections were like where the heck are we right now and could not keep it together lol
3:53 is seriously amazing to play (violin). To just play the exact melody the brass section is playing all together like that. It feels like you're one big unstoppable force it's incredible.
Loved playing this piece this year. I played bass clarinet in this piece and it was our first year introducing a full orchestra. Couldn't ask for a better piece
Funny story, I was playing this in 7th grade band however I left midway through the year and attended a different school. After looking up the song I found this and researched Soon Hee Newbold and it turns out she grew up in my hometown. I told this to my friend and he wasn’t surprised because after I left my band director told everyone that he was in the same classes as Soon Hee Newbold.!!
Oh my gosh, I can hear the part that I’ll be playing! The second violin part with the crazy slurs adds that extra echo that makes this song so perfect. I really feel like I’m on a battlefield fighting for some ancient empire or something! fantastico!
everybody's saying that playing this on a cello/bass makes you feel so powerful, but I dont see any comments about trumpet, and as a trumpet player, I feel powerful as hell when I play this.
I played this in band with my orchestra for a fine arts concert in 2022. I played Clarinet, but also played the Violin part as a solo later on. This piece has been one of my most favorite pieces of ALL TIME! This is the kind of music I live to play for and that I absolutely love and enjoy playing. When I first played this, it was my first time being in a whole symphony. And man, when I played back the recording, my heart instantly filled with joy and how proud I was of myself and my band and orchestra. This piece will forever live in my heart, mind, and soul. ❤
Our teacher said that we were going to play this and then said because the orchestra played a few years ago we couldn’t even though the new kids that you just came to our school are playing a song we played last year 😢
I played this song at CHSAA, a state-wide competition for bands across the state. We got the highest score possible for this song, it was fantastic. For those wondering, I play Trombone 1. Story time below! So, on our way to CHSAA, the tuba player Nathan suggested we all sing our parts because everyone without question had memorized their part. It was agreed, and every low-brass player picked up beginning of the song. We didn't sound awful as singers, and we only got better. Because the low brass had memorized their parts earlier that year, we had also memorized the flute solo and the trumpet parts. So, when our melody was dropped, we could still sing. We did the whole song, and the moved on to Summer Dances (our other piece that year). Truly an incredible band group.
this was the most fun I ever had playing a song istg Like playing trumpet at that one part at the end was incredible and listening to everyone else was just so amazing
I remember playing this in orchestra a few years ago!! All the people in the comments here are talking about how fun it was to play, and meanwhile, I'm just sitting here vibing as a second violin who had no idea what they were doing... lol. It sounded cool, especially the 12/8 part
I went back to my old middleschool preformance of this and i remember feeling so cool playing this song with our philharmonic. Sounds horrible now but i'll never forget
Wonderful piece. I had a concert about a week ago and I had to play the violin solo! This song gives so much power to all the instruments!!! I love it.
Our orchestra teacher didn’t let us listen to it until like the 4th day of having the music then she was like “what do you guys see close your eyes see it then play what you see when you play this song” she helped us learn putting emotion intolerance our music she was the best orchestra teacher anyone could ask for
As playing the violin 1 music on this song, the amount of testosterone that kicks in when the slurring begins at 3:38 is insane. You just go in there and feel like your gonna crush it. Violin 2 you have it too, freaking awesome
my school is starting a symposium orchestra mixed with band and orchestra and my friend chose this piece as one of our songs i’m excited to join it soon :D
i was going to play this at my former middle school with all my friends with the orchestra then i moved and never got to play this beautiful song with them :'(
Let this piece remind us that all warriors from every time periods, such as the early ages, imperial times, revolutions, war for independence, civil war, and the two world wars, fought for freedom against cruelty, massive murder, unfair laws, and most importantly: harmful laws.
I'd play a video game BASED around this song Love you Soon Hee Newbold! Playing American Landscape for a virtual concert tomorrow, and I look forward to hearing (and maybe playing) more pieces by you in the near future. Keep up the great work!
Playing this on the violin rn in my school orchestra, and I am first chair so I do get the violin solo and I love this piece so much, it is so powerful and so fun to play
as a tenor sax, getting to play with the low instruments and the trumpets throughout this song is AMAZING
Ever played this song on a bass? I'll tell you right now, you feel powerful as hell, especially when you are gradually going from piano to forte.
Juan Sanchez same goes for trombone
Juan Sanchez I played this on tuba and it’s practically the same
just got it from my orchestra teacher today, felt pretty amazing to just go at it
It felt alot more powerful the first time we rehearsed it with the band
It's such a good piece to play on the double bass
I can feel the drummer feeling this song.

Being a precussionist on this song was awesome
This song as percussionist was awesome even if you play bells or chimes or snare

Was invited in middle school couple years ago to play this in the first ever symphany band. So many memories playing the flute solo😭

The clarinet and flute solos are in the middle of the second half of the first page (3/4ths before the 9/8)

Viola players unite! 😊
I was trained in the violin, but never really found myself as a string player until I tried the viola.
Because many people mistaken it as a violin
I'm late but I remember we were missing our violas and all the other sections were like where the heck are we right now and could not keep it together lol
I’ve played the harmony of this song on viola, and it felt powerful
As a horn player, this is one of the greatest endings of my life
3:53 is seriously amazing to play (violin). To just play the exact melody the brass section is playing all together like that. It feels like you're one big unstoppable force it's incredible.
Cello to you get to go ham in those strings 😌😎
00:36 sound sick. Almost like Pirates of the Carabian
This whole piece is totally just a compilation of themes from At World's End
That's exactly what I was thinking too. I bet the composer is a fan of POTC
M.Genis 15 Just to point out, its Pirates of the Caribbean. I played it last year when I was in 6th grade.
@@dragonhorse6433 not really it's slightly different
