- What is good Project Beats fam? Here's a DIY build guide on how I made my 2 Piece Dual Zone Electronic Hi-Hat to update my practice drum kit. I hope this helps you. Check it out! Took me about under an hour for this whole build process. Not a lot to figure out. I think Go Edrum made an excellent product for DIY Edrum builders. This setup and list are for Roland E-Drum Module. I think Goedrum Makes a specific set for Yamaha Modules.

Thanks for this video! I probably wouldn't make my own kit. But interesting to see it works.
Sweet!
Yooo, Justin! Thanks for dropping by 🙌🏽🙏🏽
Thank you. Exactly what I need 👍
Yep I appreciate your content, thankyou
ive been dying to build a perfect ekit to be the only kit i ever need for perfect recordings. after seeing this video I want exactly the same setup. I like those muted cymbals alot. The flexability of them is nice.
Great stuff I like it alot.
Nice job!
Thank you so much!
awesome stuff man!
Another fantastic and informative video. I'm sorry more people don't watch and comment, I guess it is a pretty niche subject but also one that is gaining popularity quickly. Thanks for all of your effort!!
😆😅 Thanks for your constant support! 🙌🏽🙏🏽
ProjectBeatsOfficial - your a great help to all us DIY drummers
Preciate it. Happy to help! 🙏🏽🙌🏽
YES!! I will try this using Arborea Mute Low Noise 16" Crash Cymbal because i want a big Tommy Lee style setup =)
Nice! 💪🏽
What settings do you use in your TD17 to get these to trigger well? I'm having issues with mine and would love to see a video on how you tweak your module
Thank you sir for all your hard work. I appreciate the trial and error of developing an idea and seeing it through to perfection. Keep up the good work. Stay safe and may God bless 🙏✝️.... Jon
Thank you so much Jon! Stay safe. 🙏🏽
Cool Work man!!
🙏🏽🙌🏽 Thank you!
Nice!
Thanks
Thanks for checking it!
I did something similar with my setup. I ordered the low volume cymbal pack from Pintech and they were fine with some module tweaking but the hi hat was awful as it uses that controller with the cable. Anyway, I got this controller and mebrane and actually have a vh11 hh controller and got it positioned so it sits right on the throttle and it actually works amazing. Now got a real size HH that is quite dynamic and in my opinion better to play than the rubber cymbals. Only thing, they are low volume, but I have a house and play in my basement. Not sure how these would come across in an apartment type setup but I imagine if anything you could still place some silencers on the cymbals without impacting the cymbals much if at all.
That is cool! I think LVC would still work even in condos/flats. Thanks for checking the video. 🙏🏽
Very nice and useful content, thanks a lot !
Do you have any problems with the rubber ring ? Because I have a low volume cymbal with classic U Rubber Channel around to avoid vibrations... but after some hours playing, the edge of my cymbal always "cuts" my U Channel.... I frequently have to replace it...
Have you got any durable solution ?
Thanks in advance and keep going, I follow you from France 🇫🇷
Hey! Sorry this haven’t happened to me yet. And I hit hard that my trigger box either goes loose or covers fall off and I had to re-solder piezo at times but not u-rubber breaking. 😅 I’m using u-rubber from The Metal House in eBay for my other lvc. Im thinking maybe sand of sharp parts? Or maybe apply resin on sharp parts? Sorry man.
Hello! Good job! Quick question... what is the exact model of los volume hihats that you used for this project? By sny chance, could you share the link? I've tried to get a salir pair of hihats like those you are using but I've been able to found them...
Thanks! They are called TongXiang in Alibaba. Altho I don’t know if they still make the basic silver one. You can check in their ali store. But any cheap low volume cymbal in ebay or alibaba should work great.
Hi, I just ordered your 3D Print softcopy. Do I have to print all the three files? ( 39mm,52mm,72mm )? Thank you and great job
Ive only tried the Zildjian l80s. I didnt like them. Too much give. Kind of felt mushy. Thought my Roland cymbals felt better.
What brand is your kick drum patch, I’ve tried a few that end up peeling off after a few days?
It’s drum-tec pro dot. I had it on for a while now. Works really great
Nice video! How did you put the ends of the rubber u-ring together?
Thanks! Just super glue. I use binder clips and then cure overnight.
Ok, tried to glue them also once with some rubber glue but didn’t stick.
Great video, I've bought my own and have set it up. But am having some trouble with the rim not triggering unless hit VERY hard. I've increased the rim gain to max. Can you please give your exact settings you have used on your Roland module? I'm assuming you have selected vh 11 instead of vh 12. Can you give really detailed info on what settings you use? Mines mistriggering, and doesn't feel great at the moment. Great video, keep up the good work!
Thanks. I dint do much. Stock works fine. Altho I adjusted a bit so I can hit hard but still be dynamic. I’ll check my settings. Is it just the edge membrane? 2things I would check, first see is if the edge pin is properly connected inside the box. It’s possible its loose. You may want to blutac it. It goes loose after a while in my case. Another thing you could try is using a foam riser on the membrane.
@@ProjectBeats_ thanks for the tips. The bow is ok, the edge I'm having trouble getting a good response. I haven't used a foam riser, I know Myrk membranes recommend a riser did you use one? What exact settings did you use, vh 11 or 12, sensitivity, threshold etc?
Sensitivity -8 Threshold I play around 0-2. If tou are using myrk membrane. Yeah you definitely need one. I switched to goedrum just coz im updating LVC and dint want to solder again. But I used foam risers when I was using myrk. Coz it really doesn’t work without foam riser. I just used 3m 2side tape. Cut to size. Just the silver part of the membrane not the whole width
I wanted to ask you, is there an actual trigger built into the box as well? Or does it just hold the 1/4 inch plugins?
Very informative , otherwise!
Thanks. There should be a piezo inside and a small board for the edge dual zone.
I really like it ! Great job !
I may be dumb but I don't really see the point of this spacer you made...
Nevermind I get it now sorry.
Wasn't really aware of how it worked.
Thank you for your content! I'm using your builds as a guide!
With regard to the film/choke you chose, is there a reason you chose the 180 degree film instead of the 360 degree? Any opinions if the 360 would give a different tone?
Donating for your 3d print very soon!
Thank you again!
🙏🏽🙌🏽 Thanks!
I’f you’re asking about the Hi-Hat, I think at that time goedrum dont have 360 edge for my hihat size. For the larger ones, crash/ride. In short, diminishing returns 😅. I find the farther you are fr the trigger box, the less effective(more faint) the edge sound is. Personally if I had known that beforehand I would just go 180”. Save a bit of money.
@@ProjectBeats_ Thank you! I'm going to use Zildjian L80's.... I'll do the hi-hats like you, and wire the 16" and 18" cymbals each as 3 zone rides with GoEDrum equipment like you.
Considering that additional piezos can probably be wired in parallel, I am wondering if adding additional piezos, like a second bell piezo, and a second bow piezo might expand the coverage for a greater variety of ways to hit the 3 zoned cymbals. Doing this would require some creativity and circuit tracing. I expect that the additional bow piezo may just be a simple disk piezo taped the same distance away from center, but 180 degrees around, and still on the bottom side. And...the additional bell piezo could be either another of geodrum's or just an open smaller diameter generic piezo done the same way (around the other side of the bottom). I expect that there is a way to add the additional sensors without having to add another box/outputs. Aside from this likely being on the expensive side, do you have any thoughts bout this idea?
I've thought about doing that. That would effectively solve the issue with 360 edge membrane. That way you won't worry about spinning cymbals too much. Apart from the cost if you get it working right I think it's a good setup, and yes I don't think you need another trigger box. I haven't tried it but if it works for you let me know!
@@ProjectBeats_ Cool. I'll let you know if I do dig into it. I'm building my first eKit now. In for a penny, in for a pound...I want my kit to be the most acoustic-like eSet as possible, in as many ways as possible. Soooo, I might really try it! I'll let you know if I do. Thanks again! Happy drumming!
Can I get MIDI from it? Like, would it work when i connect this to the DDrum DDTI Trigger Interface? Is the acoustic sound of the cymbal good enough to record it simultaneously with a mic, when I just don't apply the rubber components? In this case, would it work better with a normal cymbal (besides drilling the extra hole)? What would you recommend on Ride and Crah for simultaneously recording MIDI and Audio via mic.
Much love!
I think the DDTI is the one that translates the signals fr the piezo to MIDI.
For recording acoustic cymbals with triggers. I don’t think they will sound good. If you put the trigger boxes they will mute the cymbals in some way altering the sound of the acoustic cymbal. You can try and experiment with trigger boxes and minimize the foot print and see if you’re ok with how it sounds.
Protip = you can re-enforce the hihat not to bend by glueing a sheet of plastic underneath, and drill holes to match the ones on the cymbal. The plastic will give some resistance and the holes drilled in it will not raise the acoustic volume of it
Thanks!
@@ProjectBeats_ you are welcome. Actually, it was your builds that inspired me to do mine, and I figured this out by mistake actually! I put the sheet of plastic to avoid unecessary vibrations, but it had made the cymbal louder. I just made holes with a soldering iron and voilá, they are resistant and low in volume!
Hi, what’s the purpose of the hi hat base rod extension? I already have a goedrum hi hat controller with a cy-8 and looking to upgrade as my cy-8 is starting to playup. I’m tossing up whether I should go for etriggered lv hihat or go vh11. Looking forward to hearing from your reply. Thanks
Hi. That’s so you can use 2pc hihat with LVC build setup like an actual hihat setup and not top only. Try lemon dual zone crash as hihat.
how do you suggest to trigger the ride and the crash? DIY piezo? or what?
I’ve added the YT playlist of all A2E conversion videos in the description and pinned comments. There is 3 build version for Ride. It’s the same for crash just without the bell.
how much in $US did you spend for the whole hihat project? I plan to replace my cy5 and fd9 pedal. Cheers
Bout 90$ just for triggers + shipping. Then +LVC. And hardware.
Does anyone else think the one he's replacing looks a lot better??
Where to buy that 3d print?
Hey man. I got the 3D Print file soft copy up on the link in the description. Ideally you would have it printed in your area, library or printing svc. It’s cheaper than me sending you the printed copy. Unless you’re in SG. If you really want me to send you a printed copy. Send me an email.
would you happen to know the exact size of washer you used to reinforce the trigger box. Thanks.
Threw the box it came in. I’ll check again I’m near the hardware 😅 I measured outer dia. Says 8mm.
Says 4mm washer. Went back the hardware store 😅
Thank you so much!!
What does this mod do exactly? I'm using the goedrum controller now and I notice it needs some work to trigger properly
It just extends the rod to enable use of 2pc hihat.
@@ProjectBeats_ Thanks. There's 4 files named 39 52 & 72mm and just goedrums. What files am I 3d printing here?
Nice job !! maybe it could be safer to reinforce the ribbon cable with tape close to the hole ...
Thanks! Yeah. I forgot to show on video. It’s taped to the trigger box. 🙌🏽
Onde consigo esse sensor de borda ?
Ebay, go-edrum or myrk
Help Please! Dumb question but I'm converting low-volume hi-hats. How do i connect a goedrum hi-hat controller and goedrum cymbal trigger to my Roland TD11? Thanks!
I think it’s labelled HHC or HC for HiHat Controller, usually yellow tag. Then CR1 (crash1) or any on the green labelled tags for cymbal triggers.
Dude thanks so much! Just got the Roland and found a PDF user guide. It says it should have two hi hat cables. One hh and one hh/controller.
Thanks again and thanks for such detailed and informative content!
Boss tanung ko lng pde ba sya sa alesis?
I think compatible but not entirely sure. May video si 65drums about pad compatibility, you might want to check
Please I can’t find the edge membrane on ebay can u help me?
I can’t find the hihat membrane they only have for cymbals
Still there. Go to goedrum eBay store or search goedrum membrane. 12” and 14” membrane works for hihat.
@@ProjectBeats_ thank you very much I thought I hav 14“ hihat so I need only 14“ membrane.. then I will take the 12“membrane.. thank you very much
So cool teacher joven where can u buy this p #saswin
If it saves a load of money then why not!
sure that too.
How much would you want to build one of these for me ?
I could. But I’ll be shipping fr singapore. So much cheaper if you can find printing service near you.
for the Hi-Hat 2pc Base Rod Extension, can you give me idiot proof instructions? like is there anything beyond buying the printable soft copy i need to know to tell the person printing it? (do i need to tell them material, thickness, etc, anything else that is not covered by the soft copy?) i've never even seen a 3d printer before so i will need to find some business locally i can pay to print it for me, but i want to be sure they're not going to ask me any questions i don't know the answer to when i go in
Hey. I just use PLA for material. It’s cheap and strong enough. Mine still works great. Apart from that all measurement is in the stl file soft copy. If you have any problems with the print DM/email me.
Helly kabayan, musta and more power saiyong channel.Hope u don’t mind kung hingiin ko ung pangalan ng glue n gamit mo s rubber hoops mo!!!!cheers
Thank you kabayan! Super glue. 😅 any kind.
@@ProjectBeats_ saan k b ngaun nkatira, hndi ako marunong mag print?kung bibilin ko sau ung linagay mo s ibabaw ng goedrum controler magkano un????cheers
Singapore. Try nyo muna hanap ng 3D printing service sa Pinas, google or facebook marketplace. Mas mahal pag galing pang SG to PH. Printing plus shipping fee.
@@ProjectBeats_ sa Australia ako ngaun
Same. Easier and cheaper to source 3D printing service locally. If you cant find one near you and you don’t mind the cost with the shipping and all DM me in Instagram or email. I’ll see what I can do.
pinaltan mo pa mas ok na nga yung una
Ok
