2023 models, Rubicon is hard to beat if you can afford it - standard dana 44 axles front and rear, plus lockers and better gearing and high clearance fender flares. New 2024 models Willys also have the Dana 44 in the front, high clearance fender flares, and a rear locker. Gearing is still 3.45 so the 33" tall tires are a stretch but it'll hold 35s with no lift and then all you need is a regear, add in a front limited slip and you have 99% of the Rubicon capability at a pretty decent discount.
@Westcoastrocksduh I had 33s on my Sport with 3.45 gear ratio and it was ok on road and off road but that's it. Just "ok." Got regeared to 4.88s so now I'm waiting for a chance to take it off road to see how much different it is
I bought the 2024 Willy’s 4xe yes I could have bought whatever I wanted lol so I bought the Willy because I love it although I only have a rear locker but in the other 5 jeeps I’ve owned with both front & rear locker’s that I really didn’t need that much why because it’s a jeep lol
This guy has no idea about the Rubicon. Never mentioned the chassis or suspension and that is what sets the Rubicon apart. Same the Mojave chassis and suspension sets it apart.
Many people buy Rubicons and use their lockers only once a year. I have 2023 Willys, my bud has Sport, and side by side I can confirm that Willys (despite all the heavy-duty claims they make) is essentially an appearance package. The aluminum wheels on my jeep actually inferior for off-roading. Although for 24 model year they added rear locker, so this is a big step up (I only have rear limited slip).
Who keeps a jeep suspension stock? Any sort of lift kit beyond a basic spacer lift will replace shocks and springs. The biggest difference prior to 2024 is the lockers on the Rubicon, front Dana 44, gearing, plus high clearance fender flares and an electronic disconnecting sway bar. But now the Willys has a rear locker, high clearance fender flares, a Dana 44 in the front and standrd 33s. Only difference is it doesn't have a front locker, gearing is still 3.45, and no electronic front locker. It's about $6500 cheaper than the Rubicon so even if you regear and throw in a front limited slip you come out ahead about $4000 with 99% of the capability of a Rubicon.
Everyone calls it WILLYS nobody calls it WILLIS .Ive owned jeeps for 60 years all different kinds.every once in a while someone says WILLIS and we all go silent.
@@sandy5548 I'm a Jeep enthusiast too, and I, and many others, prefer to pronounce the original automaker's name how he himself pronounced it: Willys ("Willis") Overland.
I still have the original VIN plates from a 1946 Willys CJ-2A… and yes, we always pronounced the name as “willis” just as the original automaker John North Willys pronounced his own last name. Anyone who calls it “willies” doesn’t really know the history behind the Willys Overland Company who built the original Jeeps.
@@sandy5548 If you're a Jeep enthusiast for 60 years you should pronounce it properly. We shouldn't dummy down to the uneducated, they should be corrected.
I feel like I just woke up from a coma into this inflation ridden dystopia. 60k for a Willys? I use my old TJ around the hunting cabin on very precarious logging trails but nothing I need lockers for. Ford maybe 10” of water maximum. It gets banged around quite a bit. 40k and I would be overly cautious however 60k is way too high of an investment for me to treat a Jeep like a Jeep, for me anyway. My gf and I were cracking up on the way to our cabin we ran into some guys “off-roading” on what is essentially our drive way. It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand.😂
Right he obviously is a mall crawler. I bet he has never climbed anything higher then a curb. Lol just dumbfounded by his comparison. Go get dirty bro.
What kind of review is this? You’re not telling me the differences between the vehicles. The only thing you’re explaining to me is the Rubicon trim which isn’t standard and the willies trim which is..
If you are going to modify the jeep go with the willys. If you are not going to modify the jeep buy de rubicon. The willys is better to modify because almost everything is going to be change in the process of modifying de jeep.
Pretty lame comparison. Red accents dont matter. Jeepers want to know about diffs, axle ratios, lockers, shocks, etc. I guess its sufficient review for moms who dont off road a Jeep. Just buy an SUV. More detail, less fluff next time
I don't even need to watch this to answer your question. Of course a Rubicon is miles a head of an open difs Wrangler. Not even gonna get into torque ratio and the 4:10 gears. .
Willy's had LSD prior to 23' and now standard with a rear locker. The 24 has Dana 44 front and rear. My 22' Willy's XR had Dana 44 and LSD. Funny thing, I got made fun of for being a bone stock Willy's XR and I did better than the Rubicon's 😂 The LSD functions well and the lockers are only as good as the driver. No issues on John Bull, Big Bear, CA over rocks.

Actually confirmed that the 2024 Willys actually gets the 4.10 axle ratio. See jlwranglerforums 2024 willys waiting room

Curious here - what are the symptoms of needing a regear, what does it feel like?

Willys has rubicon shocks
Great video, that why I got the Willys
Good video! Thanks for the information! Cheers
Just bought the Willy's same color love it
Awesome job on this comparison. Very helpful! Excellent content.
2024 Willys comes with rear lockers now
So does the 2016 unlimited addition i have

Thank you. Rub adds 1 inch ground clearance
You forgot the main difference. The suspension!

Willys have the rubicon springs and shocks
Those prices are coming down now, especially on the eco diesels.
The Willys hits the sweet spot as far as features/price. BTW it's pronounced Willis, as in "what you talking about, Willis?"

Rubicon is the best if you off-road like me.
23 model Willys. 24 id different. Good review.
Gearing, ring and Pinon, transfer case Gearing, suspension, axel and lockers. Hmmmmm
2024 Willy’s has a rear locking differential

Do the Willys have Dana 44?
That’s what I’m wondering
4:35 The Willys is NOT as capable as the Rubicon in offroad. The front locker and swaybar disconnect is huge while off road.
You’re showing 2023 models versus 2024. Still agree that Willys is more bang for the bucks; especially in 2024 model
Both are 23 models and use the older UConnect.
This guy has no idea. Red tow hooks? Umm.. rubicon has Dana 44 front axel with lockers compared to a Dana 30.

Willys
My Willy's has locking axle ....
I see the jeep tj
How did a 42k Jeep become a 60k Jeep…? You people have lost your minds! 😂😂😂 2 years ago, the Willys was not even 40k!
Willys have trulok rear diff. ✔️
Is it a multi-plate clutch differential lock? Is it automatically controlled? Or does it have a button?

Not sure why they call them a Willys
