Being patient doesn't mean just waiting around doing nothing. It means living each day expecting that good will come out of it even if you can't see what that good will be. It means acting in faith, hoping that in the end (no matter how far away that end is) everything will be worth it.
This talk was a great help to me during the past year as I dealt with unemployment and struggled to find ways to suport my family. After nearly a year and a half, I finally got a great full-time job doing what I love, and living in a great neighborhood with good church members closeby. I definitely recieved that second marshmallow!
Although I am an atheist, I could appreciate the message. Society in general looks for the short-term solution to every problem and doesn't think about the consequences. A little patience is necessary.
Don't we all appreciate people who are patient with us? Aren't we all glad God is patient with us? We do all need the faith and patience to continue keeping the commandments even when we are not sure why things happen the way they do. and I hope they have marshmallows in heaven. I love marshmallows.
There are no promises that patience in this life will bring the desired blessing; however, The blessing that we do receive are those that God knows we need whether in this life or the next. As difficult as it may be, having faith not just in God but also His timing is very important in developing patience.
Maria Holerová I agree that is a great and truthfull phrase. When we have faith in the savior and come into him he will help us. Even though you don't believe I encourage you to learn more about what we believe and I know that if you so your hard ships will become more bearable and you will feel is love.
he will answer you when the time is right being patient and having a sincere heart in him is his way of leading you towards your answer to your prayer.
I have heard may quotes, thoughts and sentiments about patience since I was very young. As I approach my 60th birthday in July and look back on the blessings of my life and how the Gospel of Jesus Christ shaped my life, and what I have BECOME as a result of my disciple ship. I realize that Patience is the one thing that takes the longest to acquire. Many of the other characteristics that we try to exercise, Faith, Hope, Diligence, & Trust all require PATIENCE. Waiting on the Lord and doing his will within his timeframe is not only essential for exaltation but is the greatest jewel in a crown of righteousness that cannot be diminished.
You know, I'm not trying to preach or anything but when I asked our heavenly father for what I needed to do with my life, I NEVER got an answer. Sometimes you just have to make a choice and if its not meant, then your heavenly father will help you and change your direction. He's done it for me. He's had to change my direction many times in my life. Your earthly father doesn't tell you what to do with your life, but he is there to guide you. Just like heavenly father is :)
Bree Guzman thanks for sharing this your testimony is strong and I hope you have continued to grow in this gospel. I know that heavenly father does want to help us and will if we let him and sometimes all we beed to do is ask and act.
He did tell you what to do. You have always known what is right. It is because you made choices that you know are wrong that you feel like you got cheated. If bad things happen to you that are out of your control, then you have a great opportunity to grow from your trials. A person who has trials has more opportunity for growth than a person who does not. Because of the atonement, we can always turn towards God, and work towards perfection.
I love the video, and Elder Uchtorf. It needs to be pointed out that the study is not necessarily about a trait of moral character. Just because a child has ADHD does not mean that he or she lacks moral character. Some disorders make it more difficult to wait, but the children who struggle with these disorders are not any less good than other children.
AMEN! With my particularly Blessed Calling, I kept raising the number of the expression, "The patience of 10,000 saints" to higher numbers until I finally settled in with saying, "I have the patience of one million saints." I've felt that I have too much to learn and too many opposing viewpoints to mediate among and so forth.
Great reminder! I am an instant gratification type of person but also know that good things come to those who wait. A good saying I like is not only endure to the end but ENJOY to the end.
A virtue heavily needed in our instant gratification, "I'll take in on credit" society, and one I need to develop a lot further myself. The concept that patience is a direct predecessor of success is completely true.
I often find what is essentially myself in our father the heavenly lord jesus christ. I find myself in him and I continue to grow and grow out through the godhead. This video uplifts me in a way that I feel rivals what I feel for our savior when I see myself in him. All of us should pray like this more often. Amen.
I remember this talk! The overlay of the study was very neat to watch and it made me wonder what goes through their minds when deciding to wait or not. Some simply played with the marshmallow. Others watched it. This is very inspirational.
singlewing, you can never tell how old Mormons are, with their health code and all. I think Uchtdorf would say, I wasn't there, but I still have the type of witness of Christ that fulfills that requirement to be an apostle.
This message is 'timeless' - the lesson obvious. Thanks you so much for another well produced 'film' of a wonderful talk. I hope you guys and gals behind the scenes who work on these know how much we all appreciate your talents in putting these together with such power!
Thank you to whom keeps this channel and videos filled with the spirit and truthfulness of God The Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost and our Heavenly Father's Gospel. :) This message brings comfort that even though at the time we may have eaten our first marshmallow we can learn and be better and also to find patience. It is essentially through the Godhead that we can achieve our greatest potential. May we all continue to grow and find ourselves in Jesus Christ our Savior amen. :)
I keep 2 marshmallows on my desk at work to remind myself that if I don't enjoy the marshmallows before I die, my child gets them both. If you are diligent to get that second marshmallow... enjoy them both, with your spouse, children and leave this world... filled.
Wonderful message. I just had a lesson in patience this evening. I was trying to finish a knitting project. I ended up messing it up and ruining the project. I was heart broken. It took me months to knit the particular project. I showed a lot of patience with it till the end only to have it ruined. *sighs* Even in the most patient of projects even let down can happen. It's part of life. But in the process of ruining a project. I learned a lot more on knitting than I had expected. :)
The sister who gave the lesson in Relief Society this past Sunday told the marshmallow study story at the beginning. Very interesting and very telling.

I like it :)
A fact
Amen
Well said. It means pressing forward with faith and doing that “enduring” according to the measure of our faith.
With Christ anything is possible

Me too. I also agree.

For crying out loud how could this not be the true church..!
the best leader and the best apostle., President Dieter F. Uchtdorf
I really love your work, portraying the messages of Christ. This is how He taught, very simple but, Effective! 👏💗
11 years later and this still holds a place in my heart
Keep the FAITH. Never give up...
PREACH

I don't believe in God, but I like his last words. "Exercise faith and hope in the savior. And never give up..."

Those who wait in the LORD, will be saved 💗

Thank you Kathrine, I needed that. ☺
words of a wise man right there
I remember loving this talk when it was given last spring, so I'm glad this video was made.
I love Jesus and the Gospel
how many people here believes in god?
Well, it's a Mormon Message, so... :)
I do.
I go to church so yes
also who was born into the church like me?
I am
I don't believe life came about by chance. How could something so detailed and beautiful have no creator?
Wow. What he said is exactly the answer I had to a prayer a few weeks ago...

This message was much needed at a critical time for me. Thank you, Pres. Uchtdorf!
This test is so darling, and yet so telling of our personal character
i love mormon channel
I very much enjoyed this talk by President Uchtdorf in the April 2010 Priesthood session of the LDS general confrence.
He did tell you what to do. You have always known what is right. It is because you made choices that you know are wrong that you feel like you got cheated. If bad things happen to you that are out of your control, then you have a great opportunity to grow from your trials. Seriously everyone! the church is so true! i love God the church so much!
This is EXACTLY the lesson we had on this last sunday. What a GREAT message!
God bless you!!! God loves you!!! For your treasure will be great in heaven!!!
I love Uchtdorf's talks, they always make me think like a German engineer or something.
Thank you Lord...again, you instantly answer my questions and prayers.
Love this so much grateful we have great leaders in this gospel.
We think bigger than we are in consideration or consciousness of men around us in the world... God has a plan just for yourself.

Dieter F Uchtdorf always tells good stories :)

I love this video. He is a great speaker.
This is amazing! Amen!!
Thank you Uchtdorf!🤓😍 You're amazing.
I like this message. It's sad but i probally would be the kid that can't wait. :(
This man is a master teacher. I love all his talks!!
Oh patience. A virtue I am always working on. But I am closer to it, everyday. Patience to gain patience.
Thank you lord for sending me this message....I really needed it right now!
A virtue heavily needed in our instant gratification, "I'll take in on credit" society, and one I need to develop a lot further myself. The concept that patience is a direct predecessor of success is completely true.
Sometimes we are tempted and sometimes we will have trials.
now it's December 2017. In fourth more day we will having a Christmas from Christ so it can be a really happy event. I'm glad to be alive until now.
Thank you. Following my life path. I never thought I was impatient until now. I’ll wait for my daughter. Prayers for our family. Love to all.

This is exactly what I needed to hear.

im going to remember this everyday this is a happy lesson
I remember this talk! The overlay of the study was very neat to watch and it made me wonder what goes through their minds when deciding to wait or not. Some simply played with the marshmallow. Others watched it.
This is very inspirational.
I'm still watching this in 2019
and in 2020
Great talk
I find it amazing people believe this-
I hate it when I tear-up a bit when I watch the Mormon Channel videos. I am weak easily moved by the Spirit. Hahaha. But I love it!
I've heard that being moved by the Spirit is a gift :)
singlewing, you can never tell how old Mormons are, with their health code and all.

the great virtue of patience is always needed to receive greater blessings! 💚
I loved this message!! And I loved this talk!!!

And the first commitment is to worship God and God alone and not associated with him anyone
