- Elder Kelly R. Johnson, a member of the Seventy with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, reconstructs an experience with his children while they were all home working in the yard. His daughter went inside the house and used an empty microwave oven to time her 30-minute piano practice. But without anything inside the oven to absorb the high-powered energy of the operating microwave, a near crisis of a self-destructing appliance required the family to respond quickly to avert disaster. Elder Kelly compares this phenomenon to what can happen if we don’t have genuine substance within ourselves and neglect to utilize God’s power and be prepared for challenging times.

If we each have strong faith in Jesus Christ, miracles will follow. The greatest miracles Christ did weren't giving sight to the blind, or even raising the temporal body back to mortality. They were his suffering for our sins, and afflictions, followed by, his death, and Resurrection. This enables us to live forever with him and our loved ones!

My wife sent this to me and I started listening to it in the background while working in the garage and I thought, "why would she send me this video when I remember this story from general conference?" Then I decided to watch it again a little later and as soon as I saw kirby I knew that was really the reason that she sent it to me.
I am glad the Spirit prompted her to go check on the microwave before it took the rest of the kitchen with it :)
Or maybe she just started smelling the smoke since that thing was pretty crispy by the time she went to check in it .

I finally overcame a challenge recently. I was in a relationship where I was commanded to put all of my time into it, but never actually receive any myself. I kept paying for things that I wasn't asked if it was ok to spend my money like that. I was threatened, that if I ever told their secrets I would have my throat cut. And they treated my daughter like trash, as if she was second rate compared to my son. And while we were growing up, they made me talk to a third party about my sexual thoughts. And that was creepy and beyond unsettleing. But here I am today, in the healthiest relationship of my life. My two babies are treated as equals. All the money I earn is used to keep my new family safe and comfortable. And my wife loves us, and cares about all of us with all her heart. Crazy how leaving the lds organization has made everything better. Skol!
Mom or dad should have gone inside to listen to her practice, encourage her, keep her company, keep her focused. I can see so many angles to this scenario. The Holy truths you speak of are good , I'm just not seeing the parallels you are making however.
