H/H match update and preview of the week ahead: ... Here we go with week 152 of our favorite classic game show (the final week will be 291). These episodes were taped on May 30, 1976 and first aired in late July of 1976). It's another "all-veteran week" with our three stalwart regulars all in fine fettle and joined by: ~~~Semi-regular Fannie Flagg, appearing for her second consecutive week. This is her 43rd week (of 90). She's currently tied with Betty White at an exceptional 50% accuracy rating. ~~~Gary Burghoff, returning for his 33rd week (of 43). He hasn't been on for over one hundred episodes (since 646-650), but he holds the title of "head-to-head matching king" this week, with his amazing 83.3% accuracy score (5 wins in 6 attempts). (Charles is in second place of this week's panelists, followed by Fannie, Brett, and Richard.) ~~~Finally, Sarah Kennedy returns for her 4th week (of 6). She last visited in 551-555 and is the only panelist this week who hasn't had a crack at the H/H yet. This week, I'm rooting for Fannie to be chosen for the H/H, even though she got to play last week. I like Fannie, what can I say? But my top wish this week would be for Gary to play again. I'm eager to see his stats develop a little more, so we can get a clearer picture of his H/H accuracy. Ideally, I'd like to see him with at least 10 attempts before his Match Game career concludes. And I'd never say no to Charles and/or Brett playing some more! And perhaps Sarah will catch a contestant's eye this week? Who knows? Well, whatever happens in the H/H this week, I plan to just sit back and enjoy some 1970s-style ________! ~~~Today's action: All our champion needed was a toilet to win the tie-breaker, and Brett delivered the winning answer. Today's audience match question: "_________ Worm" (My thoughts: Earth, Book, Glow) The celebs: Richard (Glow), Brett (Ring), and Sarah (Book) The choice: Earth (He goes it alone!) The answers: Inch, Book, Earth Our returning champion wins $500 with his own answer. Since there was no celebrity to kiss, Johnny O offers his service as a surrogate kisser! Too funny! Last time our champ tried the H/H with Richard, but they didn't match. Does he stick with Richard or try another panelist? Well, time has run out, so tune in tomorrow, same ______ time, same ______ channel! ~~~Here's our standing leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.) (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.) Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Charles - 51.0% (27 wins in 53 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50.0% (18 wins in 36 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50.0% (11 wins in 22 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 41.9% (26 wins in 62 attempts). Richard - 41.2% (183 wins in 444 attempts). Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 756, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Joe passed away in 2019. He did find love and they were married until his passing. According to his obituary, he had quite the life and was a very intelligent man. He had bought the firestations, as he said he would. I found a legal document online regarding liquor licenses for them. He was very likeable and humble on the show.
Kim is married to J.K. McKay, who played wide receiver at U.S.C. He also played for the Tampa Bay Bucs, before a hand injury ended his career. He became an attorney in the early 80's. As far as I know, they're still married to this day.
. Thank you......wondered about that very thing. What a cute kid she is (as is the adorable Sarah Kennedy (with that lovely face and that cartoon VOICE!! However, does anybody know who she (Ms. Kennedy) is/was? I had never heard of her prior to watching this) !!! .
I wonder if J.K. injured his hand trying to catch Doug Williams' passes? Like sportscaster John Madden used to say about Williams: "His passes don't stay in the air very long. He never throws a change-up. Every pass is a fastball." It's a universe of difference catching passes from Pat Haden and catching passes from Williams.
Kim's father-in-law John McKay had a rough first season in Tampa Bay in 1976. The Buccaneers went 0-14. At least McKay never lost his sense of humor. When asked by a reporter about his team's execution, McKay responded: "I'm in favor of it."
Did you know the golfer don't get to keep the coat? After the last hole the winner puts on the coat for photos and press conference then its off to the cleaners and back in the closet until next year.
I highly disagree with the judges on this one. Grave and funeral are not synonymous. A funeral is the ceremony held to memorialize the deceased and is usually held in part in a church. A grave is the hole the body is buried in. The game turned out okay but it bugs me.
There was a BBC series called "Creature Comforts" and "Creature Comforts America" where they would ask people questions and use their voices over claymation animals. I own the DVD's and they are hilarious.
WHAT could Gary"Radar"Burghoff possibly do in Night Clubs? It CAN"T be comedy because after seeing him on here so many times we know that's NOT possible!
Let's not be mean, because he is still alive and might be reading these comments. That being said, it was his well known name on the marquee that put butts in the seats.
Because his attention seeking behavior was grating and cringy. He even slept late once and missed a show, which I’ve never seen happen with any other celeb. Outside of that, though, I gotta admit that he actually came up with some pretty good matches and really seemed to want to help the contestants.
Are you kidding me? The writers wanted "bionic plague" on that one? Wow. In that case, the question was poorly written. Give us a clue, dammit! "The Six Million Dollar Man said, "I'm not going out with the Bionic Woman anymore, she has this horrible contagious disease." Nice try, guys.
When fanny said bionic boobs, I thought that was the correct answer from the beginning. The reason why is because if you had body care and you were dating, somebody, you would already know that they had bionic hair! So I figured it would be boobs because after a while, then you will finally find out! That they were bionic boobs! People do not think of the show
wouldnt that have made her ~15years old for MatchGame 76? born '61...~10 yrs old '71 + 5yrs to '76... 15/16 yrs old married 3 weeks and in college? Maybe i am missing something?
"MAY 4, 2006 12 AM PT Pat Haden was throwing passes to John McKay when the two were teammates at La Puente Bishop Amat High and USC. And now McKay, also known as “J.K.,” has thrown the ultimate compliment to Haden. McKay and his wife Kim on Tuesday became the parents of a 7-pound 15-ounce boy and named him Haden McKay." The Kim who died in 2019 had 3 sons, none of them with the name Haden. So, not the same Kim McKay.
Well, Kim was pretty hot but blew the last question. We missed seeing her on the stage. Joe was a better contestant but had the worst mid-70's hair. I guess that was pretty much the time for bad hair.
Brett Somers is without a doubt the worst panels on this game show she got a big mouth she's a lush and she thinks she runs the show and tries to run the show God how does Jack Klugman stand her. You should get a Purple Heart she never shuts up
Totally agree. I just understand why Brett Somers feels empowered to ridicule people who are brighter than she, much better looking, and not nearly near as self absorbed.
She always hated on Richard because he was the fan favorite. Richard was the real star of this show because most of the fans picked him in the super match. The star wheel was the shows way of saying, we have to get other stars I volved in the super match. The first time they spun the wheel it landed on Richard. Watch the match game documentary. Brett somers admitted she didn't like him
Kim, the contestant, in response to a question from Gene on what she was studying in college, said, "Public relations?" I don't think she did well in public relations.
A few drum rolls and a flourish would have been cool at the start of the show. And now,,,,, the star of our show! Kim had marvelous hair. Larry, Moe, and Shemp. Funniest thing Dawson ever said😀. Glow little glow worm 🐛 glimmer glimmer.
Even though the bionic plague thing was funny, they wrote the question badly. Why would he never date her again if she had the plague? it's like saying you're leaving her because she has the flu. The contestant's reply was wacky but made more sense. It should be that he wouldn't date her for some time or awhile, then "plague" would make more sense.
Bayard-McKay, round 1, question A: "Never date a woman with three bionic OLDER BROTHERS." (Bzzt!) Question B: "Yep, WADDLE's what I came up with." (Ding!) Round 2, question B: "I hope the widow doesn't have allergies. FUNERAL!" (Ding!) Question A: (lay out) Tie-breaker, question A: "I was going to say damask and never work in this town again, but I behaved myself and said RED." (Bzzt!) Question B: (probably just holding up the card) SOFA Super Match, part 1: EARTH (which would have lost us the Johnny Olsen kiss, but oh well)
School bus is Icarly tomorrow morning is Icarly tomorrow morning is Icarly tomorrow morning is Icarly tomorrow morning is Icarly tomorrow morning is Icarly tomorrow morning is Icarly tomorrow morning is
I love when Johnny Olson appears on the stage.
The voice of America: Johnny O!!!
Johnny Olson’s mother was my dad’s babysitter. Windom, Minnesota late 1930s early 40s
And I love that this guy chose EARTHWORM, that no celebrity offered!

@Craig Hinners I probably Googled his name, perhaps with firehouse and the name of the city. Sorry, my memory is not so good.
Very nice.
How old was he?
What was that pendant hung over his tie?
Kim looks like Kate Jackson.
Kim is married to J.K. McKay, who played wide receiver at U.S.C. He also played for the Tampa Bay Bucs, before a hand injury ended his career. He became an attorney in the early 80's. As far as I know, they're still married to this day.

I wish we could see what she looks like now, but they only have pics of J.K. McKay
Kim's father-in-law John McKay had a rough first season in Tampa Bay in 1976. The Buccaneers went 0-14. At least McKay never lost his sense of humor. When asked by a reporter about his team's execution, McKay responded: "I'm in favor of it."
She died of brain cancer in 2019. She was born on July 8th 1961. She was fairly young.:(
I can't believe Johnny O went along with it.
Hope his wife Penny was understanding.
Why??
Gene Rayburn apparently stole Arnold Palmer's Masters Tournament jacket
Did you know the golfer don't get to keep the coat? After the last hole the winner puts on the coat for photos and press conference then its off to the cleaners and back in the closet until next year.
Fannie low key called Brett a witch with her question about Brett trying to give apple
every girl in jr high in 1976 looked just like her....
Sweet Sarah Kennedy
88lbs. of cuteness
Gene Rauyburn's microphone looks like a major wand! lol
15:11 - And another reason why the 4th seat is called "the dummy seat"
The question around 9:30 was re-used on Match Game PM with the really nervous woman.
I thought I heard that one before. Thanks for that because I thought I was crazy.
Another good episode.
Gene was in the corner singing a song by Louis Prima.
Nobody commented Kim looks like Ally Sheedy?
fannie is a sweetheart. she’s got such a bad cold, you can tell:( she sounds awful and yet she still managed to come to work!
Charles has new glasses.
Panelists:
1. Gary Burghoff
2. Brett Somers
3. Charles Nelson Reilly
4. Sarah Kennedy
5. Richard Dawson
6. Fannie Flagg
I highly disagree with the judges on this one. Grave and funeral are not synonymous. A funeral is the ceremony held to memorialize the deceased and is usually held in part in a church. A grave is the hole the body is buried in. The game turned out okay but it bugs me.
20:29 Johnny Olson kiss
I swear that Richard had that same plaid jacket.
Kim is just cute as all get out.
I think Match Game would be great if it were revived as a cartoon. If you take some of the top episodes and animate them, that'd be pretty dope.
There was a BBC series called "Creature Comforts" and "Creature Comforts America" where they would ask people questions and use their voices over claymation animals. I own the DVD's and they are hilarious.

Part of his act was playing the drums.
I liked the one with Charlene Tilton, better. Didn't Richard seem a little quieter in this one?
What the heck is going on in the audio room @ 18:03? LOL...
I looked alot like Kim when I was her age I'm German and Hispanic Elizabeth Vasquez 😇
She's in college and she comes up with white roses duh
Why do I dislike Gary Burghoff so? I loved him on MASH.
Because his attention seeking behavior was grating and cringy. He even slept late once and missed a show, which I’ve never seen happen with any other celeb. Outside of that, though, I gotta admit that he actually came up with some pretty good matches and really seemed to want to help the contestants.

Sarah and Fanny are adorable, they make up for the irritating panelist who doesn't stop talking and cackling🤯😱🤪
Kim looked like a lovely girl
When fanny said bionic boobs, I thought that was the correct answer from the beginning. The reason why is because if you had body care and you were dating, somebody, you would already know that they had bionic hair! So I figured it would be boobs because after a while, then you will finally find out! That they were bionic boobs! People do not think of the show
did he say "fat people?" I am offended...but for a couple of bucks I can forget all about.
I'm fat and not offended. Calling me fat is like throwing dirt on, well, dirt.
They were always offensive on this show and they didn't care
girl looks like every girl I went to JR High with...ykes.
Where did you go to school? Clone City Junior High School?
@@matthewbradley3395 with that haircut? Yep. Cloned
Kim Mc Kay the contestant died in 2019 of brain cancer. Very sad. She was still young.

Road Island?
Fannie Flagg, in real life, is dyslexic.
Yeah I noticed she spelt funeral as furenal.
Taz accomplished writer in spite of that.
As a Rhode Islander I thought it was cute.
.
I just assumed that was a VERY witty play on words........had no idea it may have been due to dyslexia!
.
retro-Match Game was from over 40yrs ago.
The best kind of feel good TV! An escape,if only for 30 mins from reality.
Ha! Brett at 6:55 fixing her bra strap!
Looks more like a full slip. I used to wear those; the straps never stayed up. Half slips were much better.
And he have been BUST in the "SUPER MATCH"
Well, Kim was pretty hot but blew the last question. We missed seeing her on the stage. Joe was a better contestant but had the worst mid-70's hair. I guess that was pretty much the time for bad hair.

Totally agree. I just understand why Brett Somers feels empowered to ridicule people who are brighter than she, much better looking, and not nearly near as self absorbed.
He couldn’t. They lived apart for a great deal of their marriage.
That’s the funny part: He pawned her off on this show as a favor to him - he left her, but unfortunately, Match Game got her 😞
She always hated on Richard because he was the fan favorite. Richard was the real star of this show because most of the fans picked him in the super match. She's cute
ive no logical idea why Toilet is an obvious answer to that question and it cheeses me off they think its so d--n obvious
Is Road Island a joke I'm not getting?
The spelling is the joke.
"Road Island" Lol. I guess Fannie could have spelled it, "Rode Island".
I would have sent the roses to his ... widow.

100 million or so people might disagree with you if they were able to do so.
Bayard-McKay, round 1, question A: "Never date a woman with three bionic OLDER BROTHERS." (Bzzt!)
Question B: "Yep, WADDLE's what I came up with." (Ding!)

Super Match, part 1: EARTH (which would have lost us the Johnny Olsen kiss, but oh well)
Fanny Flag spelled "Rhode Island" wrong.
WTF is a terlet?
Eric Bogar toilet
Eric Bogar lol!
Eric Bogar: The panel tried to mock Carol O'Connor from All in the Family with that.
Glow worm is the same as earth worm.
Fuckya Nunyas Glow worms usually live on the ceilings of caves and glow in the dark. They're often called Silkworms, because they produce silk.
Glowworms are not worms.
