  • Proper blade depth adjustment is crucial when cutting perfect looking mats. The blade should barely pass through the thickness of the mat board and only score into the slip sheet underneath. This quick video shows you where to find the blade depth adjustment on Logan's most popular mat cutters. To see the entire videos for each machine, go to www.logangraphic.com

I recently bought the 350-1 Compact at B&H (and a carpenter’s Square at HD). Took me only 1 hour to perfectly square the rails (had to loosen all four screws, rather than just 3) using the carpenters square. also a straight edge to parallel the mat board guide per the UA-cam video. The potential weak of the 350-1 link is where the two screws of the hinge of the rail guide attaches to the MDF board. Look like screws going straight into MDF. No mortising of the hinge inset the MDF, no inserts. Nevertheless, The kit is about as much as you can hope for at that price. You can probably do hundreds of mats before developing any issues .

Hello. The 350-1 should have been square when new. The guide rail is set along the board slot and then the mat guide is paralleled to it and and the squaring bar is then squared to it. We have been making the Compact series mat cutters with this same basic design since the late 1980's. The hinges will not fail under normal use and the machine should last a lifetime. Thank you.
