This whole special is fucking excellent and this song is just one of the highlights. Would absolutely recommend watching if you haven't already. Also think this is one of those rare live versions that exceeds the studio recording.

Thank you for this. Used to debate issues of church and state/dialogue and since 2015 found myself arguing the same positions but against a new form of zealotry. A major and frightening difference though, is almost nobody acknowledges around me or would dismiss it as nothing but conservative misinformation. 7 years later and government legislation driven by this new religion has had it's negative effects, social media has super charged it and yet public dialogue still classifies anything to do with it as racist or oppressive. So nice to go back to roots and be able to laugh at the absurdities.

I love this song. Maybe because I have felt utter despair at the tribalism, the witch hunts, and just the general direction of political discourse over the last number of years. I'd prefer one person who I think are wrong on a lot of things, but are able to converse with me in a grown up manner, than twenty people that largely agree with me but are only capable of hurling abuse and trying to stop me speaking on the tiny amount of things we disagree with each other on.
Like it or not, everyone is stuck with each other in this world, and we really ought to spend more time trying to make it work as best we can, and less on finger-pointing, name-calling, and other similar behaviours designed to make the doer feel pious.
I've been loving Tim since his beginning. yes. I was there at his birth. It was... awkward.

Why is it in mono
I think most people would agree that Twitter is especially toxic, even compared to other social media platforms, and I have a hypothesis about why. It's the same thing that makes Twitter unique: its short post length limit. 280 characters is, on average in English, 60 words. That means you have only 60 words to communicate everything about your current thoughts, beliefs, and ideas, and there's just not enough room, so nuance gets lost, and miscommunication becomes common. Everyone ends up talking past each other and assuming what they think was meant based on gaps in the communicated information, and the toxicity spreads. Add to that how easy it is to retweet something that gets you emotional -- whether positive or negative -- compared to how hard it is to fully express yourself, and you have a bubbling hotpot of disgusting interactions that amplifies itself in a positive feedback loop of outrage.
Other social media platforms have their own issues, but I think Twitter's unique limitations also create a unique level of toxicity. I once saw a bunch of people outraged because someone had used "man" as an appositive -- something common for all genders for literal centuries in many English-speaking places -- and tried to get her canceled for being "transphobic". And I'm sitting here like... people are literally shooting up clubs because they cater to queer folks, murdering trans people in the streets, and kicking their children out of the house and family for being trans. THOSE are the issues that need to be fought against, not a linguistic quirk that everyone understands to be gender-neutral in context unless you intentionally interpret it otherwise.
SJWs need to exist, because there is social justice that must be fought for. And that is noble. But "SJWs", in quotes and often mocked by right-wing assholes, who waste time and emotional energy finding things that don't actually cause harm and yell about them... they really need to consider whether they're more help or harm to the causes they claim are important to them.
...aaaannnddd I've unintentionally ranted. I only meant to talk about the Twitter length limit being an issue. Oh, well.
