I remember running for my live in Lavernock as a child and still the incoming tide overtook me. I had to swim through plunge pools suddenly out of my depth and it was something I will not forget. These tides funnel up the Severn Estuary at a rate of knots and something not to be taken lightly.
Eh. I always stay till the last moment, it's good old fun. Nothing really bad can happen as long as you know the way. Worst case you have to swim a bit.
Around 1987 myself and my brother-inlaw purchased a sixteen foot Orkney Longliner, we decided to go fishing in Morecambe bay, we had no idea what we were doing, no radio, no lifejackets, absolutely no safety gear whatsoever, one minute we were steaming along nicely in pretty deep water, or so we thought, the next minute we were hard aground in 2" of water, so being thick as pigshit we decided that as the tide had gone out, and would not return for 12 hours lol, we went for a walk across the sandy desert, we could see Heysham power station in the distance, so we headed there for a look, as we set off, i said should we put the anchor out just in case, and we agreed it could do no harm, after walking for what seemed like an eternity, we were still miles off the power station, when we noticed that the water had risen a couple of inches, thinking we had just stepped into a dip in the sand we carried on, after another five minutes of walking, we were still no closer, so we decided to turn back for the boat, imagine the horror as we headed back to the tiny white dot in the distance , which was now facing the opposite direction to when we left it, we plodded on through ever deepening water, and began to feel the current pulling at our legs, by the time we made it to the boat, the water was waste deep, we clambered aboard, absolutely shattered and a valuable lesson learnt.
Scary story m8 a lot of people don't realise how quick our tides move especially here in the Bristol channel on a big tide. I think the guy in the video knew where he was going 👍 glad you made it back to your boat 👍
yep st mary can be an evil old cow lmao nice camera work mate looks like you've got the hang of it now ..that pan around from the ranny to the caravan park the beach looked bare of sand i remember it was less rock ...those dredgers have stripped it bare looks like all our beaches are in concrete somewhere .still one of my favourite spots to fish though either there or the monkey pole on the island .. i feel the need to get back there soon ....take care mate stay safe and well
Alot of people don't respect or fear the sea, they have no clue about tides, rips, current, quicksand or any other dangers especially with tidal swings we experience in Wales both locals and holiday makes.
Fast tide there and it comes at you from all over the place there are warning signs all over the place but obviously these two knew better. You can see the rips and hatch markings not a good place to be many people how drowned there over the years. Used to be a nice pub there right on the beach almost. Captain's Wife? I am sure someone will remember the name.
I visited today . Lovely place . Does anyone know what the building was used/built for which is now “on the rocks” restaurant? Looks old & wondering if it was a military installation originally?
I've had to before now.. twice. That place can get very naughty very quickly. One single step the wrong way can get you in up to your waist... and then yer in real trouble.

OMgosh, you must not have much ocean experience. The person leading the way knew very well what was happening, it was good not to wait for the slow poke behind but make their own way. The ocean is very sneaky and needs to be respected, every day.

Wow, very dangerous place….We see rip currents galore! and also the ‘dangerous’ infamous ‘square waves’ …. Square waves can be found out in the open ocean as well as near the coast, and are formed by waves moving in opposite directions. This happens when two separate weather systems collide. The waves then create a chequerboard affect on the sea, with a grid system of squares on the surface. If you see these square formations in the water get out and don’t go in! 🚩🚩🚩🚩 They look gentle from above, but are actually similar to rip tides, which are extremely hard to escape from and sometimes not easy to see at eye level on the beach.
Yes Beverly it's a sand bar that is a great fishing spot people been having big blonde rays off there but the tide comes in pretty quick in our channel and you can get cut off if you don't watch it. I think the guy in the vid knew this but it was good to film just to show people the dangers 👍
Not exactly deep water! Not like they had to swim for it 😂😂. There àre many places where the tide can come in behind you though. SO CHECK THE TIDE BEFORE YOU VENTURE OUT !!!
