- Big Beautiful COWNOSE RAY - You Make the Fishing World Go Round!!! - Of ALL the stingrays my favorite ray hands down is the cow nose ray. The cownose of course is beautifully pretty and a treat to the eye. But, that is not why I adore the cow nose rays so much. My affinity to the cownose ray lies in it's ability to play the angler. They will do any and ALL a pretty little striper, bluefish, fluke, or shark will do and more. The cownose ray will run, dive, lunge, dart, and they will even break water and jump for you. Now that's what I'm talking about! They won't suck to the bottom like other stingrays, but they will have no problem and take you broadside. Now that's a true gamefish!
Once went with some buddies to an inlet in south Jersey going after fluke. We saw big rays jumping and decided to switch up tackle. We got a yugeeee one! They put on a helluva show! Definitely brightens up a ruff hot sunny day! Thanks as always Jerry, tight lines!!!
I love it when you see em jumping or they take that jump and go air born! I found the smaller 8lb ones are the funnest those I can catch all day!!!
Hi Jerry, That school of rays had some large rays. They do put up a good fight. I hooked one that took 15 minutes to land and he was just an average size. Have fun out there, Mickey
They fight so hard
Jerry your one of the few guys I seen to target cow nose rays on China town you could make a nice buck great video on a rainy day
A+!!! They my fav of all the rays! Find it a pleasure catching them they are super hot fun!!!
Caught another 1 yesterday on coney island peir. They love gulp and I was helpless even with a bg4000
Oh man they can be tough from the top of a pier I hear ya so cool!
They travel in big schools...lots of laughs. Can do a number on equipment if you have light tackle. Be well
They are so cool fav of all the rays
Jerry is raying in the rain, hand wrangling the rays, and when he catches them they clap for him. Jerry is the ray wrangler angler 😂
Good stuff!!!
Hi Jerry, loved the video, this one came out of left field as I have yet to see a cownose fishing video anywhere. I have to see now whether they show up in Boston... they`ll be far and few I`m sure like fluke but worth the effort to find them. Peace and brother love to you and all.
Yea first though was northen waters we luckily get them in out in the summer and these were a good size bigger take longer to get in smaller they are the better the fight the really run and jump in the 6-8lb class these had to be 20-30. A fun treat so happy to run into them!!!
I've caught several cownose rays over the years. They fight hard, but I'd rather not catch any more. 😂 They are easier to land in the bay. They fight harder when hooked off the ocean beaches.
Some good points they are my favorites of all the rays
Is that a Daiwa 2600, 4000 or 7000- the Silverseries was an awesome reel. Many guys called them coffee grinders but they stand the test of time. My reels are all between 30-40 years old and I still come across them at Flea markets. They are good old school monofilament reels.
Yes 2600 super reel works well great and all sealed I do enjoy using it
Goldy locks ray hell yes
You got it!!!
thank you for fishing for us again today :)
love your videos
btw can i ask what you do for living? i was always curious....i can't seem to have a good work life balance...and i can't fish as much as i want to
Pretty much this, it can be tough and balance is most important when you have something important to balance it with. I don't think one could fish enough
@@FishYourWay so what do you do for living?!!!!
@@jinsu0504 This
@@FishYourWay you fish for living? Its okay. If you dont feel comfortable disclosing
@@jinsu0504 I told ya this is what I do, I get paid. I also sell watches but don't make nearly as much. Pretty cool hey!

Have to love it!
any cobia?
I have not seen or heard of any in my true travels, and my travels are far and wide. Offshore I know of a few
I am not sure why you didn't just grab his wing and the other hand take the hook out.
If you get too close and by habit I have got hit in the face by the whipper in the past. It is kinda like fighting, I have my head tilted back, left in the air ready to go, and jabbing with the right. You have to lean in for that and you can take a blow in the face if you get to close from her whipper. It's happened.
Jerry
what a coincidence
I say that because my focus these days is to hook into a big ray,, and then eat it to find out if it is good eating
I have this fantasy that the crazy people who do exist in our world will confront me and demand that l not kill it
and that I must let it go
like I said this is just happening in my imagination
I also got a heavy duty set up
a 12 foot super duper heavy rod
I realize that you were able to bring it in with your medium rod
but I might be in a position where the line is much further out,, and I also want to have a rod with the backbone to stand up top a big ray
when I say big I am thinking about the size which you just got
I cannot believe that you got THREE in a row I guess they travel in packs ( sometimes)
anyway if I do get confronted by some people who demand that i release the Ray
what should i do
I mean I am not going to escalate the situation
which could result in really bad shit happening
it just pisses me off that if I fight for 30 minutes I especially feel I deserve to keep the fish
it is my right to eat what i catch
right?
it is not their right to deny me
right?
lastly it appeared that the Cownose Ray does not have the barb
but I will look it up
I get this sometimes to about are you going to eat it. I usually respond with "You shop at the supermarket, I shop at the ocean or pond." The usual comeback is "I don`t eat meat or fish" and I say "Good for you, fish eat fish and if they don`t give a damned for each other as cannibals, why should I." That usually closes down the conversation. I`m lucky to be able to show my irritation with problem people, I am too old to waste my life playing stupid games and have been told by problem co-workers who pushed a bit much " Chill ... you look like death." and they back away. I`m always sweet and lovable when allowed and treat people like Jerry does even to share tackle. I`ve had enough trouble in my life and want non for myself or anyone else anymore, that is why I finish my comments with " Peace and brother love to you and all."
Keep it. Do what you think is right and don't give a dam what others think because you're right. Thats how i go about.
Dat some good tidings, quote in that one of several books I am working on - fish head soup for the soul
@@FishYourWay Thank you for the support
I will do what the situation calls for
if they are really crazy rapid "activists" and I can sense they plan to hurt me
I may have to consider backing down
as weak as that sounds
I am not crazy, and THEY are
@@JayMac-kj9kt Hey Jay
thank you for telling me how you handled a similar situation
and just like you the first thought I planned on saying to them is that food does not come from a supermarket all wrapped up nicely, no blood etc
it comes from an animal which has to be killed for me to live
then I see you tell what happens next
they simple say that they are vegetarians
and then what you say is brilliant about fish being cannibals
so thus we have a right to sacrifice the life of a cannibal
as we are NOT that devoid of spiritual meaning
wow'
brilliant
thank you
by the way the place that i was thinking where I meet run into these nuts, is at Captree field 5 where there seems to be these type of extremists
but really you could run into them any freakin where
