It’s crazy because the article exposes how Sefton and Jamie were actually primarily responsible for the missteps instead of the previous consensus that they were forced to make this game. Imagine intentionally driving a ship towards an iceberg then sneaking out on the life raft right before impact

It’s not that hard to believe actually EA out of the blue made a dead space remake but in general publishers want easy money live service versions of classic Ips make money.
Developers are not our friends, the last 10 years I noticed this push to blame the publishers. It’s a logical idea mega corps want profits and don’t care for creativity, but if there’s one thing more money hungry than a billionaire it’s a millionaire or sub millionaires. They wanted money and have seen that those new fangled live service games make money. I'm beginning to think the live service curse is somewhat of a "brain rot" the big suits of the companies have when they see all the successful ones out there, thinking it's easy money and people will eat up anything. It's clearly not the case and even in a different category of live service like Gacha games where you have set "rules" about them being completely free at base, battle passes with resources, unfair "gem packs" and whatnot you still have so many failed games that completely miss the mark because they think it's an easy feat to make such a game because "others are successful". It's so sad when the employees aren't even in the know about what they'll be working on, too... All about greed, huh...

I mean, try to name a good live-service especially shooter type, besides Helldivers in like the last 5-10 years. You can probably find 1 or 2 that are roughly 10 years old. Also, if you look at completely different things like Smite which I often don't even think of as live-service, though it is... you can find a few more. But look at those ones that ARE good. Often not shooters, often no lootboxes or are free with cosmetic-only lootboxes. (Smite) I guess there's also Warframe but anyway... quite rare.
Now, if we define "good" as simply successful... then there's Fortnite and Apex and stuff... but eh. Not really what I mean. And look at the monetization again, of something like Helldivers vs Fortnite. But the reason we keep getting the bs we are getting... is Fortnite apparently made over $20 BILLION since it's relaunch. And EVERY other studio would probably be happy with even an extra $5 billion. Well, "happy." They're never satisfied just making money. They ALWAYS need to make MORE. But, like... if they can START with an extra $5b, that's good.

What stuck out to me was the term “toxic positivity.” That’s almost an exact echo of earlier Schrier articles about the troubles at BioWare. He reported how leadership at BioWare would brush aside looming troubles in development with the misplaced confidence that “BioWare magic” would make everything somehow come together. And of course that also happened at CDPR, as you mentioned. Executives burying their heads in the sand is a recurring theme in these types of debacles, it seems.

I don't think F4llout was very good. Most seemed to skip 76 but we still got Starfield doing reasonably well. Honestly, I think the best thing about Skyrim was the dragons. Other than that, it's mostly worse than Oblivion in every way. Everyone bought 11 copies. Everyone's gonna buy their next thing despite them STILL not using a new engine, probably... still having all the same flaws and everything... regardless of how good it is... like just everyone will buy TES 6 / "Skyrim 2" and Fallout 5.

Starfield is boring, repetitive, the story is garbage and the gameplay average and stale. It's also dead with more people already back playing Skyrim because modders CAN'T change anything because of the way it's been coded, so even if they finally bothered putting the Creation kit out, modders won't save the game from itself.
Maybe nobody learned anything, but i doubt it. People are starting to feel the inflation and the Bidenomics effect... they don't have the amount of free money laying around they once did and with the price of game going up... Not to compare retail to games development, but i know as a manager ive been pressured by corporate to push items that i knew weren't going to sell in our area. They don't come out and say "you should do this". They say "we thunk this has a great chance to be a big product, why don't you give it a try" and if you push back, they'll mention that meeting sales goals is an important factor in determining how manybhourscare budgeted (the implication being they'll cut hours for the department and short staff us, setting us uo to fail so they could replace managers).
TLDR: just because it was Rocksteady's idea doesn't mean WB (who we know pushed live service ideas hard on other games) didn't imply that live service looter shooter was a better idea than puzzle game or live service brawler.

Then they have two really shitty co-op multiplayer games that were both massive disappointment.

This was Kevin Conroy’s last run as The Batman
The 4 Arkham games were all really really good and his passing really hurt millions over the planet
When we learned we got one more run with him I think we all thought the trailer was gonna be where we got to play as the Bat one more time
One more run with Kevin as the final stamp in his legacy
And it wasn’t a game about the bat at all
    It wasn’t Arkham
It wasn’t what so many fell in love with
And instead of being an amazing hurrah for Kevin; it was a blemish
A disappointment; and a letdown to know that this is what they did to a character I KNOW is so many people’s top 10
