The biggest insult is that the "ending " had none of the dlc characters so literally this could have been put on the end of the game and they already have a reason for more adventures
To be fair, this is how comic books usually work. A major superhero gets killed off for the shock value, but since the average comic book storyline is one continuous story spanning literal decades, the writers almost always end up bringing the dead back to life because people liked that superhero, and you gotta retain your readers somehow. In hindsight, we should've seen this Braniac clones twist coming. Even if we did, that doesn't excuse everything else wrong with the writing... and the rest of the game in general. Also... where are the pre-recorded Kavin Conroy voice lines that are supposedly confirmed to exist? Maybe they couldn't find an appropriate place to squeeze them into the actual game (as if any place would make sense). Hopefully they at least release them online. Then we can use our imaginations to fill in the blanks. Maybe someone will even make a cool animation of what the cutscene would've looked like.
Injustice did it better, I figured they were going for something similar. The difference was in Injustice we learned the story took place in a parallel universe by the end of the game, not 3 years later.
The cloning was extremely obvious from the beginning. That was original story premise they just didnt have time to flesh it out with real cutscenes etc
Sorry let me use my B.A in English Creative Writing for a moment. (going to be M.A in May) They advertised that this is the last project with Kevin Conroy SO HARD before release, that made batman's "death" all the more distasteful. It seems clear to my writer brain that they 100% intended for Arkham Batman to die. The scene was too non-self aware and thought it was an uplifting scene for Harley. They tried to make it bitter-sweet. Even though that isn't what the audience felt. This is such a cop-out and back-pedal, WOW. Imagining someone sitting down to plan this and write it, it screams "Oh we messed up people did NOT like what we did. Quick just say they are all clones! Ignore how we messed up! It might as well never happened right?!" they actively tried to retcon everything. Outside of the writing, I think what else caused this is what happened with each DC game (not just Arkham games). Arkham Shadows is a success, even if it is only on Quest 3 VR right now. People and batman and arkham fans RAVED about it. Rocksteady kind of refuses to acknowledge Origins, and with Shadows being a prequel it was clear they didn't want it to interfere with Suicide Squad. I also think WB and Rocksteady saw how Gotham Knights also fell off and realized "You know. Maybe we need to keep Arkham Batman around...". They aren't just looking at what these individual projects are doing, they don't care that Gotham Knights is disconnected from the Arkham stuff, they are looking at the Batman videogame IP as a whole and realized "we need to keep Arkham Batman around." Looking to the future, I think WB and Rocksteady are going to play things safe and try their hand at another Batman Arkham game. Maybe play it even safer and try to remake Arkham Asylum. Mark my words they will double-down on their cash cow instead of realizing what went wrong in the first place. They think "Oh Arkham Shadows didn't succeed because it is good, it is because Arkham Batman!" Just like they thought Suicide Squad would be easy money. EDIT: "Selling bullet skins" Literally Halo Infinite's effect sets. Everyone else can see the effects but you. You spawn in with these cool explosions and your footsteps leave trails, but you can't see it. Its for everyone else to see. At least with armor you can see your armor and stuff, but not the effects because they only work on certain actions.
It’s crazy. The Avengers was an infamously trashed upon game and lasted longer than this. My theory is because at least the Avengers had a somewhat okay story and gameplay that genuinely felt diverse and like the characters you were playing as. Thors combat was fun, pinning people with your hammer, throwing captain America’s shield into enemies, and doing cool stuff as iron man. They also added characters that coincided with the tv show releases like Kate Bishop and Hawkeye. I remember enjoying the Black Panther DLC the most but after that, the endgame loop was terrible. Ultimately, both of these games all failed in delivering that key part in their endgame: FUN. No one enjoys endlessly grinding and getting loot, no one wants to pay egregious amounts of money for a battle pass for shitty skins. Both games have their strong suits like the amazing map design in ssktjl and the hero fantasy of Avengers but the game developers started the project thinking of making money and dlc before intending on creating a polished game.
"They advertised that this is the last project with Kevin Conroy SO HARD before release, that made batman's "death" all the more distasteful. It seems clear to my writer brain that they 100% intended for Arkham Batman to die." I hate to be the bearer of bad news mate, but, (Speaking as a writer myself) this twist was flagrantly obvious from the get-go. I called it VERY early in when I first watched someone do a playthrough of the story the week of release, and I was far, far from alone. The entire vanilla story dropped too many Chekhov's Guns for it to be anything else. The over-dramatization of Bat's death was either a bad red herring to try and mask the obvious twist, or it was retroactively changed AFTER Kevin's death to try and give him a more "proper" send off. Given how untalented the team behind this clusterfuck of a narrative was, it could go either way. They clearly thought that this comedy of errors was going to be a suitably toned story to be told in the grim and gritty Arkhemverse they had established, so they could have genuinely just thought that if they tried to sell it REALLY hard people would just buy it being legit. Or, they could have really been so tone-deaf as to believe that such a scene had any right to claim being a send-off for a legend like Conroy. Either way, if some iteration of this shitfest was ever meant to genuinely involve the League dying, it was an iteration lost in the depths of development hell that never made it anywhere near the actual release.
Wild that this game came out a year ago… feels like there was so much going on last year with big games and huge busts that this lowkey became an afterthought
2:42 With *this* being the final piece of the Sewer Slide Squad story, I can only say one thing about this game: Those who live by the cringe ultimately die by it.
Honestly, the reason for suicide squad sucking is the same reason that many other games have it happened at EA it happened at Rocksteady. It's happened everywhere, devs leave, the people who made battlefield 4 aren't the same people who made battlefield 2042. It's that simple and until everyone wakes up and realizes that the tag of a studio on a game case doesn't mean anything, the faster the industry will improve.
For the people who says that they are backtracking because people got so upset, no. We knew it was clones. Boomerang cuts of Flash's finger during their first encounter with Batman. Meanwhile when they fight Flash again his finger is back. Barry has a healing factor via the speed force but he can't regrow limbs like Wolverine or Deadpool. The main reason people were outraged was because it was the second to last recording Conroy ever did and it was a depressing note for the Arkham Batman and Conroy to go out on. Didn't help the game was terrible and the story wasn't much better. But if the game hadn't sucked this would have dragged on for 2-3 years to take down all the different Brainiac's before revealing the exact same thing in proper cutscenes. Instead they chose to speedrun the development to stop wasting more money than needed.
Never played the game. Can't speak to its quality (I've heard it's "subpar", apparently.) But I did watch the cut scene "movie" last summer- and I genuinely liked it. Personally I liked how dark it was. I liked the various fates of the Justice League. It really surprised me, given what I was hearing about the gameplay. You really get the sense that the world is completely screwed. I thought it was interesting and sometimes even compelling. It's too bad that the game apparently sucks. There were talented writers and voice actors and animation directors doing good work on the narrative. I hope they were compensated well. Hearing that they fell back on a "clone" narrative though is a major disappointment.
With what was there and done this is the best possible ending, this was literally just reset the neutral and let this fade away while they move on - Arkham Batman and Arkham Superman return, we all knew the league we killed are clones and have been saying that for months so why is it a big deal now? - the Suicide Squad goes exploring the multiverse which is good as it removes them entirely from anything in the future
So they didn't even commit to killing the Justice League? And they were just going to tank the bad mojo thereof for two years while giving us characters like Mrs. Freeze and Lawless? The director of this game was on drugs. Holy shit
suicide squad was such a massive disaster it will always be a black mark on rocksteady's name and now I think people will always be sceptical whenever they release new games
But if that's how the story would end doesn't it mean Kevin would have already recorded for those scenes? Could at least given us some more bat lines from him of they just where gonna do this cutscene
"WB just pissed on Kevin Conroy's Legacy as Batman." I am more than willing to die on this hill AFTER seeing this cutscene. What a stupid cop-out, Wonder Woman died for absolutely nothing in this game. Batman go out not with a bang but a whimper
It super funny how the dlc just undo the whole part of the game, one of the big reasons the few fans even defended about - since people wanted an game about the other super heroes like Superman - so really it became "SS kill wonder woman" the only one they like too, lol
If I’d only known how much I’d come to hate the word ‘content’. Bye art. Creativity. Vision. Now games are just content. Pipelines of overpriced, ceaseless ‘entertainment’ sludge.
The problem here is that. This was just made to save the game and do another Batman Game. That is all it was not planned it was more like "Fuck we are broke we need to think of something to have some players into our game"
I can sort of see this concept working for a single player, maybe co-op, story based game, not live service. This sort of twist, which you could sort of see coming, would work if you got it, say, halfway through the game and you KNOWINGLY kill those clones in order to free the real JL. Whoever thought it was a good idea to drag this over 2 to 3 years was smoking something really cheap.

Wait, so wonder woman is really just dead?
Was looking for this comment
@@Coswalker27 Yep
Awkward…
Yeah,that is a huge loose end!😢
whats even more sad she died to a superman clone that the SS beat. she couldnt even beat a clone of superman. so i guess rocksteady really hate WW.
This game could've been an email. Thank God they wrapped up with a PowerPoint presentation
It doesn’t even make sense that they stick together as a squad through the game they’re both portrayed as evil and hating each other.
I just had a nightmare that I played SS and liked it. Don't drink alcohol kids, it's not worth the hangover!
Luke is the real winner here.
But Wonder Woman was not a clone, so she really died. And Sushi Squad still pissed on my childhood heroes. Man F this game. 😂
can I just point out you can’t just clone Green Lantern if you were to clone him, he wouldn’t have the powers because they come from the Green lantern ring
I think Angry Joe called the clone thing. The damage is still done! I feel like they had to basically apologize for what they did. It was really bad!!!
It feels like they slapped the ending together at the last minute, probably because it was
how could that be possible when this was the storyline from the start? especially with the in game files being leaked showing this
@@C2190 they slapped the development of it together for sure though. This was clearly WB saying " we're not spending any more money to make proper cutscenes ". I'm pretty sure that's what the top comment is referring to as well.
This was the story from the very beginning, it was 100% planned. It’s just a shit story that takes advantage of manipulating fans by showing their favorite character getting killed to drive up engagement, only to have a horrible “twist” to undo the entire thing anyway. Absolutely pointless and waste of time story telling
Rip Wonder Woman...
The only one I feel bad for is Kevin Conroy. He should have been in a better game. Also the devs who got fired for other people’s decisions but that’s it.
The studio heads had left if I recall before the game was completed.
David Zaslav WBCEO this was his baby like Concord was Herman Hulst's baby.
WB were happy for another single player game, they were hesitant with live service but the rocksteady founders insisted based on the report.
This game is probably an example of ego driven heads over publisher meddling.
Not really. This game was announced in 2020. Discovery bought WB in 2022. I'm sure Zazlav had alot of eggs in this basket tho.
This is the same studio that brought us the Arkham series. Same directors or not. This is devastatingly sad.
I love how it just ends mid audio and Luke is just there sitting awkwardly.
If the rumours are true that Rocksteady are making a new Batman game, then the ending keeps their options open. But thank god its over.
This game was a complete waste of time, money, and resources on Rocksteady's part. They should have focused on either a continuation of the Arkham Batman story or a solo Superman game, which is something people have been asking for the last ten or more years.
5:03 But it subverted your expectations, didn't it?
Ikr!! thats the most important thing!! :))))
Suicide squad is like when a villain shows off a doomsday weapon and it powers up for like a solid 30 seconds before ending in a fart and falling to pieces.
Wait, is Wonder Woman still dead?
Doesn't matter she's a clone
no because the justice league in the game are clones
just treat whatever heroes, neutrals and villains they thrown into that suicidal game as a bad fanfic multiverses clones.
@@dbatteries1 Actually, no. She was never captured and cloned by Brainiac. Wonder Woman died for real. She was the only one that died for real.
You know, the character they glowed up with an awful Lex Luthor journal entry and were actually planning to make a solo game for. THAT'S THE ONE THAT DIED FOR REAL IN THEIR STORY.
Rocksteady are a bunch of idiots.
@@Ingel_Riday6690 Which makes her sacrifice even more pointless. What a friggin waste of a IP. Would of been awesome if she was gravely injured and eventually recovered and became a playable character.
This game was free this month on PS. Played 2 hours and couldn't go further :(
So no one told Wonder Woman the plan.
Jason Schreier is also quite well known for keeping things quiet until it suits him to shed light on it. Selective journalism isn't all that far removed from access journalism.
Wow so the justice league is alive so what was the point of the game again also them being clones doesn't change the fact WONDER WOMAN IS DEAD she wasn't a clone
This also makes Diana’s death pointless.
It’s just been a complete disaster.
A culture of perfectionism and that is the end product?
The biggest insult is that the "ending " had none of the dlc characters so literally this could have been put on the end of the game and they already have a reason for more adventures
I would say Marvel Rivals killed this game, but it was already dead 😂
Good riddance to bad rubbish!!
when first sushi squad leak is status screen with damage numbers show up
the hype in me drop to the floor😂🎉
But Robin and Wonder Woman are still dead.
A bloody mask does not confirm anything.
"Suicide Squad". Lived up to its name
Listening to Harley narrate in that cut scene, my ears picks up a hint of Bubsy 3D in her voice lol
At long last, Luke can finally rest.
At long last is lasting a little long…
Luke made more worthwhile content from The Suicide Squad than the devs did.
To be fair, story wise. They hinted at them being clones during the main game campaign. But this is something that could've been done way better.
Looks like Rocksteady wants to go back to single player Batman Arkham. The boat has sailed and the talents have gone. They can only wish.
I just it hilarious how incredibly transparent the 11 version of Brainiac was as a vehicle for live service garbage.
Sorry let me use my B.A in English Creative Writing for a moment. (going to be M.A in May)
They advertised that this is the last project with Kevin Conroy SO HARD before release, that made batman's "death" all the more distasteful.
They aren't just looking at what these individual projects are doing, they don't care that Gotham Knights is disconnected from the Arkham stuff, they are looking at the Batman videogame IP as a whole and realized "we need to keep Arkham Batman around."
Looking to the future, I think WB and Rocksteady are going to play things safe and try their hand at another Batman Arkham game.
E+
It seems clear to my writer brain that they 100% intended for Arkham Batman to die."
I hate to be the bearer of bad news mate, but, (Speaking as a writer myself) this twist was flagrantly obvious from the get-go.
@Exotac I'm leaning toward the incompetence angle. Otherwise there would have been SOMETHING salvageable.
The punchline is that Sony decided this was the month to add the game to PlayStation Plus.
it's funny that wb added a offline mode expecting anyone to preserve this stinker of a game
Wild that this game came out a year ago… feels like there was so much going on last year with big games and huge busts that this lowkey became an afterthought
6:05 Because "those" people didn't make it. Whoever made those original games are long gone. They're the same company by name only
2:42 With *this* being the final piece of the Sewer Slide Squad story, I can only say one thing about this game:
Those who live by the cringe ultimately die by it.
These were not the same people who made the arkham games, they left the studio.
Wouldn't have minded a story conclusion like that for avengers to be fair
Just to clarify, they put out 8 seasons of content this year not 4
Never played the game.
With what was there and done this is the best possible ending, this was literally just reset the neutral and let this fade away while they move on
- Arkham Batman and Arkham Superman return, we all knew the league we killed are clones and have been saying that for months so why is it a big deal now?
- the Suicide Squad goes exploring the multiverse which is good as it removes them entirely from anything in the future
TO TRUly sell this they have to show that batman had a huge contingency plan set up. And this is how it panned out.
This reveal really ignores Wonder Woman's death, a statue isn't enough. How was Diana coming back. They weren't going to leave her dead were they?
What? Really? That is just.....bad. Like comically bad. Pun intended
I think they would have been fine if they just kept away from linking themselves to the Arkham games.
So they didn't even commit to killing the Justice League? And they were just going to tank the bad mojo thereof for two years while giving us characters like Mrs. Freeze and Lawless?
The director of this game was on drugs. Holy shit
Those people didn't make this train wreck, most of the old Rocksteady team left long ago.
suicide squad was such a massive disaster it will always be a black mark on rocksteady's name and now I think people will always be sceptical whenever they release new games
Lol, because cloning did worked sooo well with Palpatine 😂
Worst thing they could have done was taking notes from Disney Star Wars sequel 😅
But if that's how the story would end doesn't it mean Kevin would have already recorded for those scenes? Could at least given us some more bat lines from him of they just where gonna do this cutscene
"WB just pissed on Kevin Conroy's Legacy as Batman."
I am more than willing to die on this hill AFTER seeing this cutscene. What a stupid cop-out, Wonder Woman died for absolutely nothing in this game. Batman go out not with a bang but a whimper
Muzzle flash skins
It super funny how the dlc just undo the whole part of the game, one of the big reasons the few fans even defended about - since people wanted an game about the other super heroes like Superman - so really it became "SS kill wonder woman" the only one they like too, lol
Didn't they already reveal that they were clones right after we saved both flash and Green lantern?
