Was going to call my deal "Moar Durt". Great advice and waiting for the rest. Been quiet this year as back to full time working - not a lot of time on line or "having fun". Stacks of raw materials to work out but no workshop space as yet.. Will get there! Thanks. Back story is SO important.
thanks buddy glad you found it useful. I know the feeling sometimes actually getting the chance to work on something can be half the struggle
Some very good points!
I've recently started do some light weathering on my historical kits as well. Really brings the character more alive!
YES yes it does. it makes a HUGE difference regardless of genre. it turns a costume.. into clothing
Great video! I'm in the construction trade, and when building my costume, observing the wear patterns on my everyday clothing, hard hat etc, has been a great help in getting realistic weathering and distressing effects. And without fail, when I get a new hard hat, the first scratches that appear are on the top, just like you said. And usually within the hour!
Dude love that you use real life experience to help inform your costume making!
Thanks for a great primer (pun intended)! Looking forward to the upcoming vids!
Loving the weathering idea based on the back story, rather than random marks, makes it more personal to the wearer. Great idea and great work, as always!
So glad you've finally done this video dude.
ME TOO!
I love how much information you put in this video. I never really gave it much thought to be honest before, but it does make a hell of amount of sense.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it and found it useful
Fantastic video! Love your explanation of weathering and how it tells a visual story. Wouldn't even think to add scratches to the top of someone's helm. Can use a lot of this theory in my digital art and character design as well. Really excited to see how you do your veskar! It looks fantastic on the pieces you've already made!
The bonus to bumping my head a lot haha
Well laid out presentation of how to tell (sorry show!) the story behind your character, well done!
thanks buddy !!
Great video Callum. Very eloquent and a pleasure to sit and watch *****
Thanks buddy appreciate that
Thanks for the video! Great content, as always! I will keep your advice in mind for my costume projects in the future! ❤
BBR BABY
Awesome explanation, I love your story examples!
thansk buddy and thanks for helping inspire this video
Excellent video! The helmet thing... I'm pretty tall and ALWAYS bonk my head on stuff. GREAT observation! I've always loved the SW theory of "future used". The Millennium Falcon was over 100 years old (EU) when Han Solo won her and LOOKS it. I was in the army, so "used but servicable" is something I'm very familiar with. I'm looking forward to more videos!
thanks buddy! hope the rest of the videos plan you find as enjoyable as this one !
Well articulated man
Thanks for the video man! Super helpful!!
My pleasure
This is a solid prop making tutorial!
thanking ye!
See, all of this? i really wish i could remember it during my process. Buuuut no.
Maybe ill remember it next big project. who knows.
Nice video, as always.
dude you are someone who has made some very well laid out post apoc ( and other) costumes, complete with good weathering
You know, I understood some of these words. I was too busy staring at THOSE GUNS.
haha got some work to do in that regard !
Only just now had a moment to look at this video. Awesome stuff! Quite reflects my own thoughts of it :-)
glad you found it reinforced your own thoughts on the topic of dirt and grime
@@DustMonkey Probably going to refer people to this vid :-)
@@JvdBos please do buddy, and thanks for feeling the content is worthy of being shared
I'm starting my very first post-apoc costume and my character theme is leaning towards a former miner that's still living in the abandoned complex after everyone else left. I have a ratty leather jacket that actually once was expensive, but is missing the zipper and multiple buttons, a brodie style spelunking helmet and a suitcase that has a large rip through it that was closed with tape.
Baby steps, but it's a start as they're already a bit worn, so I have indications of which places I should focus on distressing.
Good luck with it dude
@@DustMonkey @Dust Monkey Thanks! Unfortunately part of my plan was set back, because I just found out that the helmet, which I thought was on it's way here,, was not meant to be listed in the first place, so I was refunded. Hope I can find something else that's just as good
Grate video!
I'd really like to see how you go about designing a costume?
my design process is AWFUL, its lots of me imagining stuff in my head .. which is REALLY hard to visualise
Love the quality of your vid bud! Keep it up.
thanks buddy there is a LOT planned
I’m making my first mando kit for fanX!
@@snowyman42 oh epic !! What flavour of Mando you going for
Also I’m super stoked to see what else you have planned!
I’m doing a hoth inspired sniper. I love snow and snowboarding (I also have a spare pair of snowboard boots that inspired the build) but yeah lots of fur a hooded cloak. It’s gonna be legit!
I think I saw a thumbnail for a vid that you have a building a mando kit?
@@snowyman42 yeh my personal project currently is a post imperial Mando. Ill be using that once finished for a follow up to this video, detailing MY show don't tell process with detailed examples
Enjoyed the video, like your presentation style and the content was well thought out with good examples.
I’m really new to all this, and I’m looking for advice on weathering clothing, specifically a ghostbusters flight suit to get that dingy, smelly cross between a sewerage worker and a truck mechanic 🤣.
I’m hoping some of the future content will give me some tips on techniques and products for weathering soft clothing rather than hard armour etc so I can give that a try 🤞🏼👍🏼
If you browse my existing tutorials you’ll be happy to find several videos on weathering soft clothing buddy. Enjoy !! And thank you
@@DustMonkey awesome 😎
@@oldwulf6629 hope they help you buddy
