  • This not a super exciting video, but it is an often requested topic I get: "How do you clean your chaffle maker?" There may be a better way -- and if you think your way is better, let me know in the comments. But this is how I clean my Dash Mini, Dash No Mess and my corn dog maker.

😭 Thanks for the tips. Whenever I overflow my maker, I usually sob for a while and then use my tears to wipe up the spill. I guess the saltiness helps, but I’m not sure. Thanks for a great channel!

I have been in the habit of immediately after using mine, unplugging it and spritz the outside with a spritz of water. I also take a paper towel folded in the size of the cooker, spritz it and put inside the cooker. When I have finished my sandwich, it all wipes off easily. If not, spritz and plug in, and repeat towel cleaning. I use a *retired* toothbrush to remove stubborn parts.

It is worth noting that using a detergent cleaner on a waffle plate is never recommended ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn though people who don't understand about kitchen hygiene won't understand that a stiff brush is all that is necessary to clean the inside of the unit. Let it cool slightly but still perform the cleaning while it's warm. I used to have a Black and Decker unit that I just loved, and was concerned when we had to replace it that I might not find one that I like just as much. This one does it for me.

Opened up a Dash Mini to have a good look at that "cheese juice" hole. One screw, no prob.
The hole is only for a small section inside. Most c-j would run out of the 5 other larger openings around the base.
If liquid is dripping out of the base it may be worth opening it up to check if any debris is inside.
Of course not plugged in and do when cool to the touch.
The Dash Minis (2) arrived 2 days ago. Had to repurpose the bakers rack, it's now a waffle maker station.
The Dash Minis, a waffle boat maker, a larger round maker, and expecting a churro/empanada maker this week (much like the corn dog maker, but with two sets of plates), and the grinder.
It sure helps when chaffles in all their variations are so darn tasty and versatile!

Here’s a tip. After you’re done cooking your chaffle and remove it, put a soaking wet paper towel in the chaffle maker and close the lid. Unplugged of course. When it’s cool enough to handle, you can just wipe it out.

I put my mini on a paper towel on the counter so if it leaks doesn't get everywhere. When I'm done as soon as I unplug it I put a wet paper towel on The Griddle and close it. After about an hour I come back and take the wet paper towel and clean in between all the lines and then take a dry towel and do the same. As for anything that might overflow and gets stuck on the outside a scrubby sponge works great to get that all off.
But I didn't know about the toothpick in the hole on the bottom. Thanks for sharing that.
I also like the brush idea

This is an awesome video😉 I don’t have a dash, just a regular 4 square waffle maker. I have an old stained dishtowel that I dedicate to cleaning my waffle maker and Forman grill. As soon as I’m done using either, I wet the towel, ring out excess water, fold it to fit. Place it inside and close the lid. All the steam cleans so well. The inside of both is Teflon, so I can’t scrub them. After it cools a bit I dry it with a dry cloth. I hope this helps those folks like me who don’t have a dash. You’re killing it Steve! Awaiting part 2 of your transformation. Blessings and much love to you!

Hey Steve, yep, I use all of those methods, however I didn't realize that tidbit about the little screw on the bottom. It is what it is, small price to pop at ANS cleaning after each use is very helpful, as well as using the "no-spill" and if I want a smaller size I merely fill the middle of each section.
    Thanks Steve

Early on I watched a youtuber post some chaffle stuff and as an aside she showed how she took care of clean up. (If I could find it, I'd post the link, but couldn't) Anyway, she put damp paper towel under and folded up into grill while still hot. The steam loosened everything. I've been doing it ever since. Only, I set my Dash's on damp paper towels to begin, (this catches any spills and keeps the drain hole from greasing up counter... then when finished cooking, I fold front of paper towels into grill (unplugged of course) and clean other stuff while steam softens any spillage. The paper towel is nearly dry when I go to finish cleaning and just use them to finish a wipe down. Occasionally, I'll do more complete cleaning as you describe in your video. Great video by the way... (love the clamps and gonna get some)

Today, the product came used with waffle residue and oil still in the crevices. Ewww! After I cleaned it, I noticed your post. Donna Hamstra, I paid about $28. Once I discovered Chaffles, the tiny personal waffle maker was too small and time consuming for me. Most of the recipes I have been making said it would make 2 chaffles, but would really make 3-4. With this new item, I hope to spend less time in the kitchen and maybe make double batches and freeze what I don’t eat.

Less batter is always better. It’s a learning experience. I always run my waffle maker (each side holding the cord to the side) under very hot water and turn it upside down on doubled paper towels to dry. Any seams can be picked out with a toothpick.

    • @SeriousKeto
      @SeriousKeto  4 роки тому +1

I agree -- batter control is the best answer. Nine times out of ten, I guess the batter amount correctly. Periodically, though, I get that recipe that winds up expanding more than I thought and it oozes out.

Easiest thing to do is to wet a paper towel an actual towel and press it in the waffle maker. The steam cleans it all up then the hot towel can clean the outside quickly. This is what we did when I worked in restaurants and it takes less than a minute.

Only been watching a couple weeks and Always get good info. Very helpful. Bought 3 Dash appliances so far after watching you demonstrate and review them. Very happy with them all so far. I may have missed it, but do you have a recommendation for warming chaffles so they crisp up again?

Thanks, but I don’t have an air fryer. I discovered putting them in the microwave a few seconds crisps them just fine

For us, once we are done we unplug and place wet paper towel inside and close the lid. The steam cleans it out nicely, once cool we just wipe it off, easy peasy.
Quick tip, just use a cookie scoop for perfect amount and place a piece of parchment paper under when cooking for easy cleanup.

You're the 4th person to share that idea. I'll definitely have to give it a try. Thanks!

Also, I agree that a "disher" (cookie scoop) is a great tool for consistent portions. However, I find that some recipes (especially with whey protein isolate and/or baking powder) can expand at a rate faster than they cook/set, resulting in some ooze.

Thanks, Steve I love my dash mini but I hate cleaning it. I actually bought the dash mini with the removable plates today at Costco so I can just throw them in the dishwasher.

I didn’t know such a thing existed (and I was just at Costco this morning). I’ll definitely look for it. Thanks for the heads up.

I just keep mine dirty. The heat will sterilize the plates next time is used. It’s stored in a plastic bag to collect any crusts that falls off. Keto requires a lot of time prepping and cooking from scratch. This chore for me is easy to ignore.

I use a misto to spray olive oil on right before pouring the batter. I've found that I don't really need to clean the dash mini afterwards, just wipe the excess oil up with a paper towel when it's cooled down.

Those Mistos are cool. I don't spray mine, and the only time clean-up is really an issue is when I overfill (which happens more often when I'm experimenting with a new recipe).

Hey Steve just wanted to thank you for the heads up on Perfect Keto. I ordered for the first time...that chocolate collagen is the best. I am anxiously awaiting my second shipment from them...

I just got my first (Black Friday) order yesterday. Today, I'll be getting my Cyber Monday order. I think I wound up ordering every flavor of their keto bars, so I'll be doing a review of those within the next week or so.
