    Constructive Criticism Ahead - I clicked on this video because I am thinking to buy my first "proper" oscilloscope and this Siglent just came to my attention.
    You titled this and the associated part 2 video as a review but together they are over 100 minutes long and the actual useful information is buried among a lot of unnecessary and lengthy fluff.
    I would politely suggest that if you are going to make any future review videos, please;
    1) Learn the features of the device before recording the video
    2) Structure the content in a logical way
    3) Try to explain each feature as it exists, rather than keep repeating, "It is like my other Siglent"
    4) Edit the important parts down to total 30 minutes max.
    As I said this was meant to be constructive, so don't be upset with me - thank you for your effort.

      poruatokin - thanks for your feedback. When I do reviews I try and do them in they way that a first time user would experience it, doing it that way is also helpful for the manufacturer as they can see what people do and how they fumble their way through without reading the instructions first (probably how 90% of the people do it).
      Yes I could of improved upon the conciseness of the videos, I certainly don’t disagree there, my more recent videos are edited a lot more to remove most of the waffling.
      I am always trying to improve what I am doing especially with the quality of my videos, so thank you for your recommendations.

      I own this scope for 5 days :) my first that class scope and I am excited with FFT and in general having a higher class device. Now time to learn it's functions:)

    No disrespect intended. When I look for videos on equipment I try to find ones that show practical applications. I wish the people in the know would for example assemble a simple on or two transistor radio and show how a scope could be used to adjust the frequency. A lot of them throw on a $2000 frequency generator just to show what a square or sine wave looks like. Heck I did that and more with a few parts I had laying around. A nice practical application video would be great, I'd even pay to watch it!

    I've had a Siglent for a year, If I dig around I still find features I had no idea it had. I think the menu system is a little deeper than it should be and many options/settings are not as obvious as I'd like. For the money tho, a good value scope.. In the1970's a digital scope with these specs would probably cost several thousand $$$. Or more..Good review, thanks..

    Those looking for a scope in this price range should consider Keysight's offering with the 1000 X-Series Scope. Definitely worth the tiny bit more. Yes it won't be a 200Mhz model, but you'll thank me after you do - This from a user of the Siglent SDS-2204. I thought I was trading up when I sold my Keysight DSOX 2102, I've been disappointed ever since (was happy at first but that changed after using the scope day in day out). They (Siglent) need to work on their firmware, it's not ready for prime time.

    • @LearnElectronicsCanada
      @LearnElectronicsCanada 7 років тому

      Please don't remind me of the fact I've been using it for a little over two years (I bought just before the 'X' series was released to my dismay). Same firmware on both from what I can tell so I doubt it would make me any happier using the newer version. I still stand by my recommendation and when this poor techie gathers up enough coin (in 3 to 5 years) I will go straight to Keysight. But thanks for pointing out my product from you is 'discontinued'.

      Mirk Poli - yep you are correct, I already recorded more footage going into more detail, which has the camera right in front of it so it fills the screen, you won't be disappointed in the next video, should be able to see it very well! I just need to record a bit more footage and then I will upload the next video, I have only used the scope for about 2 hours so far.

    Hi sir thanks for all your videos. I have a serious question to ask you.
    I want to have a second oscilloscope, maybe a second hand oscilloscope.
    I already have a atten 100 mhz scope.
    There is on second hand market some high brand scope, with several features cause they was high brand at their time, ever they are old.
    My question is, it is better to buy this siglent (wich is very nice model), or for a similar price like tektronix TDS 640A or HP INFINIUM 54810A.
    It is worth to buy a second hand scope like the both I mentionned instead a brand new siglent one?

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  7 років тому +1

      Alexander Hartdegen - it really comes down to repairability, the older scopes are usually repairable, the newer ones are not, due to the move to custom parts etc, I would expect an older scope to outlive a modern one. But there is also the aspect of features, most older scopes don't have features such as serial deciding, which most modern scopes do include.

    I'm just about to place an order for one of these, the only thing I am a little unhappy with is the colours of the traces, I would have preferred yellow and blue instead of yellow and pink....is there a way to change those channel colors?

    Is anyone familiar with defective units with BA in the serial number?

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  6 років тому +1

      Frank L - it is a known issue with the initial release units, a scope probe compensation problem. It is likely that I will be doing a video on how to correct it for those that cannot just send the scopes back for correction/replacement.

    • @frankl1955
      @frankl1955 6 років тому

      That would be great. Siglent claims that the problem was fixed in Sept of 17 and that they had not shipped any defective units for "quite some time" but mine was purchased via Amazon in Jan of 18 and I have seen reports of them being sold in Feb. There was never any attempt at a recall and/or they are still shipping defective units.
      I knew something was fishy when I saw the trace going backwards...LOL.

    • @bills405
      @bills405 6 років тому

      As of March 19, 2018 MegaDepot indicated they still could not guarantee that I would receive a SDS1202X-E with a "BB" serial number or later, i.e., that the serial number would not begin with "BA", if I ordered one from them . :(

    • @TheDefpom

      Unfortunately not, none of my modern scopes do that, my old tektronix 2432a has a buffered output on the rear fed from ch2, man I miss that, I still have the scope but it’s a bit big.

    I notice the trace moves from right to left, on a roll, can this be changed to left to right.

    • @TheDefpom
      @TheDefpom  6 років тому

      Frank L - sure, the procedure is to attach four rubber feet to the top, and then carefully pick up the unit and rotate it 180 degrees, then place it back down gently onto the new feet, that concludes the adjustment process.
      But seriously, the roll mode scrolls from the right, there is no way of changing that.

      Thanks, just wondering. I recently retired and have been getting into Arduinos so I used it as an excuse to buy my first new bench scope in over 25 years. My old crt (bench which I have not much used), portable and PC based scopes all trace from left to right so this will take some getting used to.

      I've never used a Rigol, this scope works well, is nice and responsive, I like it, I had it viewing waveforms up to 400Mhz... but it aliased, could do over 200MHz just fine, more video will be coming in the next day or two.
