You saved my life and my pocket with this video. They claim Toseek is a Japanese brand on these extensive Ebay listings. I have never bought anything OEM or ODM simply for being cautious, as pro cyclists or retired pros we all had heard word of mouth terror tales about frames/forks/handlebars cracking all of a sudden, etc...So before I hit the "buy button" I came across your very cute and spectacular good humoured channel and man, was it transformative! Your bike is the living proof there are some good quality materials outside the fashionable brands. Kudos for your research and the courage to put them to the test! Subscribing with delight

Toseek, EC90, and a bunch of other names are all from the same factory in China. They OEM and anyone can put their own brand stamp on it. This has been a standard practice for years so even the branded stuff are all inherently from China. Most brands will copyright their molds but the factories will often make similar (and sometimes better) molds for OEM cuz they can sell more and eliminate idle production time. So quality-wise, these so-called “Chinese” parts, are on par with branded parts that just charge u more cuz they spend ur money on commercials and sponsoring athletes.

    Hello! Thanks for the video.
Woven carbon prepreg is usually only as the first layer, as it is not so strong and is much more expensive than UD.
I always prefer products with woven final layer. Finishing of these composite products involves a lot of sanding.
Woven layer, being not so structural, protects UD structural layers from damage.
Marble-like appearance of some UD carbon handlebars is actually an evidence of at least one or more layers being sanded through.
Which is, in term of structural composites, very very bad.
    Take care,
    Happy riding,
    KK

I've had these handlebars on my bike for almost two years. I recently recabled the bike, took the handlebars off the stem and checked for cracks or marks, nothing. These are fantastic. Just as with all carbon, make sure you use a torque wrench and uniformly tighten all four screws in your stem. I'm using a little under 4nm on mine, tightening in an x pattern a quarter of a turn each at a time until the torque wrench clicks. They all tighten up at the same time, a good sign of good uniform tightening. (when the first clicks, all the rest will click on the next turn too)

    • @Georgous92

I bought some on aliexpress they are super logic but are exactly the same. Just a rebrand. You are definitely right with the 4nm as I didn’t realise this till I read the description after. As I went to 5nm as it’s what it said on the stem and I heard a ever so slight crack noise. So yeah anyone else with these bars defo stick to 4nm. My bars have been fine so far. I bought the same Toseek bar. I had them about 6-8 months and was riding down a hill about 30 mph. At the base of the hill, where it flattened out, I got in the drops and sprinted out of the saddle. I didn't see a pot hole and hit it fairly hard, nothing worse than I have previously. I heard a big crack noise and thought I just cracked my new Scott Foil frame. Hit my brakes to stop and realized the left side of the bars snapped downward and were hanging a bit. So, in your "strength" ahem, cough, cough, test, you would need to hold the drops where there is more leverage and not the tops. PS: The bars are a little flexy while sprinting and also with hard digs out of the saddle while climbing.

Another nice one is tying fishing line to the end of the inner cable and on the other end of the line something fluffy like a cotton ball, then you can use a vacuum cleaner (or a hoover in Brit speak) to suck it through from the other end. And then there is the magnet technique too. But these are all more relevant when it comes to routing cables in a whole frame.

On the other hand my view is such that I don't believe Chinese manufacturers would jeopardize their customers' health, not to say their credibility by producing faulty product. And if an European importer puts his sticker on the handlebars of the very same origin, it doesn't make it more reliable, it just makes it more expensive.

I bought a frame direct from Flyxii ( £250 delivered )and rode Paris Roubaix on it as well as commuting for 4 years through London - performed flawlessly . I bought carbon , flat top aero bars from Joom ( £28 ) branded only with E90 - they've performed faultlessly as well . They're far more comfortable than alloy bars and definately soak up the vibrations better .

I had a cheap carbon bar on my bike (looked like a 3T copy). The bars were comfy, looked great and I was very happy with them ...but they did break suddenly going down a fast downhill. The end section was weakly secured to the mid section by a thin carbon shell. This snapped, the bar end pivoted at this joint and then came off altogether. Fortunately I stayed upright. I may have had a bad example but it put me off using cheap carbon bars. Having said that I've had a cheap carbon seatpost, which I've used for 6 years, no problem.

I had some similar bars on one of my bikes. I'm a heavy rider and was petrified of them failing, but, I mounted them to the stem and gave them some physical abuse. Yes, they flexed a little, but that flex is what reduces road buzz.
They were very comfortable and survived a heavy clatter into a pothole - sadly, my (alloy) frame cracked around the seatpost/top tube junction.
The bars were fine and they'll go on another bike once I've decided what I'm doing everything except for the junk frame.

Gave it a go and spend $36 US at eBay for the Toseek carbon aero bars. I have no complaints with the weight or overall finish quality but after 2 hours and destroying 2 sections of new Shimano housing decided my time was better spent on other things. A number of fails in the design, specifically in the flat section and lacking the guide tubes that are almost standard now with components that route cable internally it's wasn't money well spent, but then you get what you pay for.

    • @TraceVelo
      @TraceVelo  5 років тому

Yeah I know what you mean, the cable routing was a bit of a pain. I got some tips from people in the comments though, and that is to run the actual cables through first, then use them to guide the cable outers through the bars. I haven't tried it myself, but lots of people have assured me it works like a charm. Might be worth a go.

@KevCentral needs to see this. I have been trying to get him to buy one for months to review. I've been buying carbon parts and frames from mainland China for years from good sellers. All the parts ive had worked perfectly. Only issue I've had was with a seatpost that I overtighten and snapped after putting my fat ass on it going downhill . The carbon frame I have didn't even have a stress mark or anything after the snap. I replaced it with the same $20 seatpost off amazon and tightened it to 5nm. I had a hard crash after and it took it like a champ. The thing with "cheap" parts is that they don't feel like a bad investment when things break or get too beat up. Just buy another cheap part and your done. Plus t700 or t1000 carbon from trek is the is toray carbon used in cheaper frames or parts. As long as there are no obvious defects the two will have close to if not equal strength values.

Last weekend, I got cut off HARD and slid into another rider. When I made impact, I was almost at a stop, and the bike fell over. To be clear, it was hardly a “crash”, the bike fell at almost a complete stop. I was not harmed, but my Chinese handlebars crushed at the point where the cable hole was drilled. My handlebar tape was not damaged... but the bars were ruined.
