Honestly the reason why people play germany is because its kinda fun you are close to the battlefields, no Colonies, a powerful country, the tech teams are fantastic you start of with good ic and man power and most importantly you are the belligerent you choose when the war starts this makes germany a very customisable nation.
Germany is definitely NOT the underdog. They are probably the most powerful nation in the game. Most times I don't play them because it's too easy to school the allies and the Soviets with small effort. I play either Italy or the U.S. and as the U.S. I swing towards fascism and either conquer South America and Canada after joining the Axis.
you have no idea how many hours i have on this game. i'll never forget my C.Chinese Campaign, rushed the KMT early in 1933 but couldnt conquer them completely before the outbreak of war with japan so i lost all my gained territories, but i kept my army. Held back japan as the KMT just died, and slowly retreated till i had solid frontlines. the fall and surrender of the KMT, gave me some but not all of their armies, however i had enough to hold and even push. slowly managed to push until a breaking point, after which i got all of china and knocked out japan (with a little bit of help from the US in the pacific, weakening japan and forcing them to move units out of the mainland.) then i looked at europe and the Soviets had just died, alongside the British, and all of africa, AND turkey. the Germans were running wild, taking Iran and heading towards India, as the Soviets under Beria (cringe) made a hopeless attempt at an attack. Decided to not join the losing Comintern and Instead joined the allies, and went to war with the axis. i sent my "Indestructible" Chinese Infantry (basically the only Stacks of infantry i had prioritized upgrades till they were 48' Infantry) but they still pushed me hard out of Balochistan, and the Indus River, and i had to slowly fall back to burma. I held the Himalayas but it was TENSE. Then my first Mechanized and Tank divisions were done, And i pushed back the Germans from India in a hard push. Did a naval invasion in Iran to be cheeky and get all the land, and managed to occupy and keep pushing all the way from Iran to turkey, where the rest of my from consolidated as the soviets had died and i had rushed to get and from a frontline in siberia, encircling most of the Germans there. With most of their Armored Core encircled in the Urals, it was fairly easy to keep pushing till all of Europe was liberated. Also since i had never doen the Great March, Mao never came to power, so when Zhang Guotao retired, Mf Deng Xiaoping became the Leader of C.China, which Extended from Vladivostok to the Maginot line (yes i kept it from the french lmao) I could have left the allies and tried to do a world conquest but last time i had tried that i got bogged down in Central America with Nicaragua becoming a scene out of WH40K with Super-Heavy tanks and periodical nuclear assisted one province pushes which quickly turned unfun so i didnt do that. Had fun Building infrastructure and factories across all of the extended China till the game ended for me. i did tho test how late game nukes work, and damn i wish ICBMs worked like that in HOI4.
I remember I had played as communist Germany and joined the Soviet Union in fighting a war against the west and supporting communist coups in eastern Europe, and then the USSR invaded India, and then both the USSR and I invaded the middle east, but then got caught in the world's WORST stalemate. Probably a year in Egypt fighting the US, lost hundreds of thousands of men, and with nukes bombing us every month or two. I lost the save file, unfortunately
The negotiate trade (is kind of an undeveloped feature though, IIRC you can basically only give away stuff as the AI will refuse to give anything I return, like I can offer 5 divisions for a blueprint and they'll say no.
Loved playing this game. Never liked Hoi3 so this came at the right time. Such an incredible well made upgrade from Hoi2 (My first Hoi game) and unlike Hoi3 really aesthetically pleasing.
Sorry if this is a silly question but is there a way to stop the ai from making peace for you? I was playing the 1914 scenario and after winning WW1 I invaded Austria as Germany. When I captured Vienna, AH and it’s satellites accepted my peace even though I never made an offering….. in the end I didn’t keep any of the land I conquered. Not sure if this was just a glitch or something but it was definitely frustrating at the moment.
How anyone could like hoi4 more than darkest hour is incomprehensible to me. But something you said 'hoi4 moves faster' explains a lot. Hoi4 is more of a kids game.I've heard young people say hoi4 is more difficult, but never more detailed. In fact while searching for something hoi4 had over DH, you continually stumble upon things superior to hoi4, which always has to include some DLC to even make a comparison.
2:25 dont discard a DH USA campaign so easily. Especially with some mods, like Edge of Darkness or (especially) TRP, Playing the USA turns into a hard logistical challenge of trying to balance your navy in the early game, so you can later hit the beaches of normandy in time to avoid the soviets dying. especialy fun (in the Dwarf Fortress way) is when they do die and you have to instead invade Europe through the land route of africa-middle east-caucasus, or through the mediterranean after you free the suez. either way playing america is in DH a surefire way to end up playing well into the 50s in game time. i would say its the only "paradox" game (its technically a licensed game...) where playing USA is fun without doing a wacky alt history thing or playing multiplayer. also i never quite got multiplayer running with DH so if you do, please stream that stuff, it should be gooooood
I watched the video at 360p to really get the 2011 vibe.

fighting in central america is literally the worst in this game

I have a Cold War mod for this game and it expands it quite a bit
This gives me hope you continue that Enclave game in modded HoI 3, i really liked it back in the day
I remember ragequitting that one
but tbh comparing the two fallout mods would make sense at some point
Return to monke
that would be hearts of iron 1

I think thats because some automatic event fires. Very unfortunate indeed. Experienced something similar as Romania.
it took you 6 minutes to get into the game?

Well I haven't played EOD but the experience in TRP is quite a bit different from regular DH
:)
