great job . a downdraught table is brilliant. a great place to store it is on the drill press table, put a few buts of timber around the metal table to stop it moving. put a replacable part in the middle to drill into. its great to hold the piece down and to suck up any dust. ypu could put a wider hole to sweep in shavings. i would round over the holes to make it easier to pull the dust in.
Nice tip thanks
My grandparents were Irish and it’s nice to here the brogue again after over twenty years
You are never getting that lid off again! LOL. I am cleaning up the workshop, designing a new storage system with French cleats and hunting for materials in the ceiling joists to keep busy. I love useful projects, so thank you for this one.
no problem
Nice little project John, intend to give this one a go 👍👍
Go for it!
Nice build.
"getting to the last of the materials my workshop" I dream of a day, when I can say those words.
Another simple project to keep you busy, its not pretty but it works!
Thanks John will be building one great video. My first from you will be watching more.
You are welcome
Great project will definitely have to build one
Of these.
Nice and simple, helps keep the dust away from you. Glad you found it useful.
Like it. Never heard of one of these. Imagining building it into a workbench. Thanks John
it would be ideal in a workbench
Cheers John, I'm a new subscriber who has always had an interest in DIY and has taken up woodworking in iso. Thanks for the simple projects to get me started on my journey, I especially like your video on simple jigs as I don't want to spend heaps of cash on things if I can make them myself.
Welcome along Adam glad you like the projects, best of luck with your woodworking journey!
Yet another great build,i made one some time ago now and it really does make a difference
A useful bit of kit!
That looks like it will work pretty good, thanks for sharing, Gene Cooksey
Thanks for really useful tips , great skills
My pleasure!
Great idea!! I could really use this!!
I really need to build one! Thanks John, stay well! Cheers from MT
No problem thanks for watching
Great project, seeing as you have a void under the baffle would you cut a slot, to hold sandpaper etc.
nice idea!!
Great build John, only thing I would suggest is to countersink the holes to smooth the flow of air and help catch more dust. Keep up the good work, and stay safe 👍
Fantastic job, John! Really well done! 😃
Nice one mate, well played, think ill be doing something simialr as the wood pile is getting low.... lol....
Would this work in a home work shop with a henry hoover?
Super John, it actually takes the dust down into it...never heard of such a thing :| :)
great job John, btw, what dust masks do you use.......
Its a trend stealth I believe
Great little project, I however went overboard with holes!
Nicely done John 😁. Looks like I "need" one of these, will prob have to make mine a little shallower so I can store it when not in use 🤔. I have been using the top of one of my home made MFT cabinets as I made it "torsion box" style so it's already a box with holes in the top and works OK. But a dedicated one will be better 😁. Thanks for the vid John 😁👍
That Sucks! 🙂 great work John👍might have to make myself one of these.
Go for it anything to protect your lungs is worth it.
Looks like a project for your newly refurbished table saw David 😁👍.
Nice john any projects coming on the lathe ?
I was just getting one ready not sure if it will work but I'll give it a go
Hey john im a 14 year old lad love wood working I have mostly cheap tools but a few good ones but I have an 80€ cheap lathe and I would love the same one as you but it’s just a bit over my price range just wondering do u know any lathe that are kind of similar
I feel like you set out to build one of these into your mft table as well. Did you ever set that up?
I had planned to but never got round to it
@@JohnMcGrathManInShed I don't have an MFT yet, but I am about to build a downdraft table. Seems venting with 20mm holes on 96mm centers might allow me to more easily integrate the clamping and holding of whatever I am sanding. Also, THANK YOU for all your amazing content.
Just subscribe John looking at your videos nice work I'm from laois keep the good work up
Nice one James welcome along
Great build. Thank you for sharing. I love your workbench. Is that all 2×4 top?
The whole bench is made from 2x4s, I have a video on building a smaller version
where did u get the dust mask from m8
Can't remember where I picked it up. It's a Trend stealth air. If you Google it loads of places sell them.
I’ve been wanting to build a workbench for months that includes one of these. Maybe I’ll get around to it if Australia goes into mandatory lockdown. Great build mate!
Go for it!
Love the guitar on the back wall!
That was one of my first builds
whoa, John have you been in the house lately?
no not at all lol
When you were using the drill press I could almost smell the dust but then i realised it was the cedar dust on my clothes
I bet when you was drilling all them holes in the lid. Was you where wishing you had a lovely down draft table......... ah ah ah ah dint you
