Interesting theory about the cracked Cylinder. I struggled most of this past summer with getting water in my oil on my 76mm 02 1K bracket bike. Turned out the problem was a crack in #3 cylinder in just about the same spot yours burnt up. Makes me wonder if there's a casting flaw on the 01/02 cylinders?
I have a gsxr750 k5 with k4 1000 cams and ape sprockets. I did drive it with the stock valve springs but it did destroy 2 valve stems due floating i think. I want to upgrade the valve springs to 55lb springs. Is it posible and safe to use that springs with stock retainers? Its a 145whp gsxr750 and i ride it often in highrevs and also revlimter.
I dont like the OEM retainers and have cracked several. I also dont like titanium because in time the keepers start to pull thru. I SWEAR by Kibblewhite retainers

I have 3 sets of 1k engine cases that are matched parts for 01 thru 03 that I don't need. 2 sets are ready to use and 1 needs cylinders recoated..
I figured with mismatched cases you'd have (I could be wrong) to line bore them? I guess you haven't had any issues with the crank bearings?
Are you interested in some 03 / 04 engine cases? I also have a 01 / 02 set. all have matched numbers

Its not a dragrace bike, i drive it on street allot and its a semi stuntbike.
