2021 and still watching this awesome unit. line 6 is always be pioneer
Brilliant man! Great to see how you approach each step and the reasoning behind each one. Cheers!
Bro
Iv been using a pod live for about 2 years
After watching your vid, I used your ideas to improve my tone 10 fold
Thanks so much
Bloody legend
Dude you helped me get a real tone out of this thing! I got a pod yesterday and I had no idea hos the fuck it even worked. I felt like a bass player.
Dude, kudos on the clarity, quality and delivery in this video. Thank you for being so clear about each and every step from beginning to end. I'm gonna try this on my HD500 right now :)
Anytime man, glad I could help! Let me know how it works out! I've actually this exact patch (10C) for some of the songs on our new record hahah. Thank you dude! (Y)
Two things:
Remember to set the decay and hold on the gates to 0.
Also, try adding a Parametric EQ, with Q set at 100 (meaning it only touches 1 frequency), and the frequency set to 60% (corresponding to about 1.2 khz) and boosting it.
This is essentially the "djent" sound; a big mid frequency hump round about this frequency.
Sounds terrible bro imo
Your video made me keep my pod pro hd and I can't live w out it. The low-cut tip made it sit and sound so much better in the mix. Brilliant vid. Thank you.Fwiw.
You know your stuff man. Very good video, well done sir. UA-cam is full of people putting this pedal down for good metal tones. I bet most of them wouldnt know the first thing about the settings you got into. I was on the fence about this but after seeing how much you can really sculpt your sound, I'm sold.
Thank you, seriously, from the bottom of my heart thank you sir. I too use impulses but this helps a lot for the actual amp. Thank!!
I wish there were more vids like this one. Very instructive. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Dude you’re a life saver I forgot all about the technical amp settings
video I've been looking for! ! thank you
Fanatic video man! Very intuitive and easy to follow. None of the senseless talking and rambling found on most YT videos.
I find that adding the reverb at the end adds (replaces) what the noise gates chop off.
For the most part (extra eq and one less noise gate) I run a very similar tone chain. That/this gives me reason to believe I'm doing something right. LOL
Keep up the good work man.
Hey bro, this is an awesome video! I just got my Line 6 Pod HD Pro X and I had no idea how to set up a good. Thank you so much for all the information provided. Keep up the good work!! God bless!
awesome toturial bro, keep up the good work!
Thanks for making this video. Your settings and suggestions for tone are well thought out and sound great. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Anytime brother!
You're the best! Thank you so much for the vid, full support from Paris!!!
i just downloaded this tone for my LTV-89, and it sounds amazing! i've had relatively bad luck making my own since i tend to forget that i'm always going to need to EQ in post, verses while i'm recording. nice work! thanks!
Still it is so much useful in 2023... 🤘🤘
Thanks man!!
Happy to help!
Very helpful. Thanks for making this video!
I'm super happy with this!! Thank you so much my man!!
Any time!
Very good sound i was searching for something like this video! ;)
the wait was killin me man! thanks for puttin this video up!!!
Anytime dude... sorry for the delay. I think I'm inherently lazy and particular at the same time haha
haha no worries! just glad to have something help with my tones. they were sounding a bit flat and this helped fix that!
Hope the video helped!? :)
helped immensely!!!
These units are pretty versatile even to this day I would imagine. I see these on the used market for pretty cheap and thinking of picking one up. Nice vid!
they really are, we still have them and we do use them every now and then
Extremely helpful! Definitely learned a lot here!
Thanks for the tips and run-through! Definitely giving me a big help starting to find my sound. =)
Anytime man, glad I could help :) !
This is AMAZING! I wish I found this sooner, you got my sub great video
amazing video man thanks for the great detail!
Awesome video buddy! Very informative!
With that final EQ, I turn up the low frequency to 1.4 kHz, which I find tastier for attack than 1.5, and boost the 800 Hz to 0.7 :) really cool guide, though, cheers mate.
This is a very helpful video. I previously watched Chimp Spanners quick tutorial to get my current rhythm tone. I didn't know about lo-cut, hi-pass, and everything after the amp (pre-amp, reverb & eq) plus lower channel volume. I personally find it easier to use the edit software. I used all of the tips from this video plus lowered the cab bias to 0 & lowered the Master & SAG on the amp parameters. Thank you for helping me shape my tone!
Hey Andrew, thats absolutely brilliant. I put up this video purely to help show people how I set it up for recording and playing live. Chimp Spanners video was actually the first video I watched after the getting the unit and he does a great job quickly giving the basics. I just tried to show some of the more detailed work that can sometimes make a massive difference in the feel of the tone. I'm so glad I could you out with this and truly gave this video even more reward! Really appreciate it brother!
Thanks for the tips bro!!! Great video
Thank you very much, awesome tone and video!!!
Awsome video man ! I loved that djenty tone ! Btw, I have a very old album of yours. Got it from your ex-guitarist Samah like 5 years ago. He is a good friend of mine. I'm glad I stumbled upon your channel, got some good shit going on. Keep it up !
That was really good!!!
Thanks for the tutorial, great job!!!
Well done...very well done.
Wow, very interesting video. Definitely worth a like.
really well done bro.
Such a great video.. thanks
Thanks, I'm trying this!
Super helpful my dude!!!!
awesome dude. thank you so much!
OMG... Perfect Djob.
Lol, good one
YOU ARE AWESOME!!! THANKS SO MUCH!!!!
Dude this is Absolutely L.I.T ngl 🔥
The high ringing noise is probably due to not using a string dampener behind the nut. Do you use one? I have this problem b4
You have made me realize that I got every penny out of this POD HD PRO X..FKN Sic Dude!! Tight, Bright, but doesn't choke out sustain??? I've been searching for this tone, or one like it since I got it six months ago, and it feels like the first day again, thank you
Anytime dude, really glad I could help. I totally understand the feeling you are referring to and cannot understate how amazing it actually is hahah. Enjoy! (Y)
I've had the HD500X for quite a few years now, but I've never thought of using the Vintage Pre like you show here. Seems to be a useful tool, and maybe it can help me to whip some tones into shape. I'm definitely not a djent player, but this shows how tips and tricks can be picked up from unexpected places. Maybe I'll even put some strings on the old RG7321 and fumble my way through some heavy riffing with your POD settings. 😄
That constant high ring you hear when you really dig into the strings hard is the part of the strings past the nut ringing. Mute those for a tighter more pleasant sound.
This is great! I was about to toss my pod in the trash, the defaults are pretty much all trash. Thanks for all the details!
I just got mine today. ya the presets are absolute garbage, I don't know who at line 6 goes through and makes them but there's literally like 3 usable tones in presets. I hate it when these modeling type amps and effects units throw in all these super gimmicky tones that are unusable. I get they want to show off the capabilities of the unit but really just set up a few tones that allow the user to get an idea for what to shoot for and let them tweak it from there.
that being said I am super stoked to see what I can get out of this unit though :)
Really like the Vintage Pre Part the most, I've only used it for boosting an Acoustic signal etc for now, But the whole HPF LPF Seemed to be a huge diff!
Super informative video! Thanks for the walkthrough. Quick question if I may... After completing this tutorial I am getting some crackling in the high end of the signal. Any idea where it could be coming from? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks again!
Wow thanX bro!!!
THANK YOU..It's taken me a year just to get some good recording sounds but you really showed me a LOT. Have any tips for direct recording ? Thanks again !
thx for this vid
Awesome tutorial man!
I have a question tho.
If your running the Pod HD pro through a real life cab, for example a marshall, can you use the cab simulations that are in the HD pro? Or will it be best to leave out the cab simulations when using a different real cab?
Hey there mate. I hear a lot of harmonics on your guitar, i dont really know if its in your headstock or if you guitar have springs on the back. To get rid of it just put some foam inside the springs filling it up and under the strings on the headstock. Will tighten up your tone for sure. Nice video mate.
Thanks for the tip bud!
i noticed that too, foam will help majorly
Almost definitely sounds like the noise from trem springs. My strat had a Floyd rose and had that same noise before I put foam behind the springs.
Luan Morais
Kayleigh Williams just bought this couldn't afford axe fx. thanks for video to get me started. always just used pedals and amp my first processor should be fun dialing in tones and maybe stacking external pedals on the chain. if this unit takes to pedals well
Awesome video man. I actually do the same exact thing with setting my Bass to 30, maxing-out the Mids, and setting the Low-Cut to 120 haha,The Low-Cut makes a world of difference. But just to add to the discussion.. I'd actually recommend never setting the Drive any higher than 30%. I run the Skreamer in the pre-chain with 0% Gain and roughly 90% output, and I just really try to pick as hard as I can, when appropriate of course. I also find that lowering the Bias, Sag, and Master can help a ton too. I run my Bias cold, drop the Sag to where things sound less "squishy," and then drop the Master to 40% or so.
Definitely gonna try out the Vintage Pre idea tho! I really wish the Pod had a simple "lo-pass/hi-pass" stomp-box.
For the EQ, I found that sucking the 3k can make things less "harsh" sounding. I usually run a PEQ in the pre-chain to boost the 1.4k (60%), and then a PEQ in the post-chain to eliminate some of the 3k harshness (80%).
And glad to see someone else that prefers the Hard Gate over the Noise Gate. What do you set the Decay to? When I lower it too much, it seems to make things sound kinda artificially choppy.
Hey man, thank you so much for the input. I definitely cannot diasgree with much of what you're saying. As for the lower gain settings, I totally agree except for our bands preferences and "sound" we go for slightly higher gain amount. Anyone reading your comment about the 3k should listen up!
I usually set the decay to about less than half a second. Depending on how much gain I have, active/passive pickups, or just the feel of the riff. In general, rarely go above 500ms.
Diddo on the LPF/HPF stomp! Are you reading this Line6?!
hey man thanks for the comment. I have a Pod HD500 Im actually trying to copy your tone, however Im not sure what type of eq you are talking about (the model name), i dont see any eqs with the option to increased certain frequencies by a %
Sold me on the pod, im super happy with the sound
Now for a live setting, I need to be able to go from clean to dirt to lead ect, is the FBV Shortboard MKII the best solution for this?
Hey man, great clarity on the video. My question is, do you have any of these settings on before you started? As soon as you turned on the amp early on in the video, it had an obvious metal sound as if distortion or something was already on. From that point on, my tone sounds completely different from yours. I don't know what the issue is since I followed your instruction directly. I don't have the pedal you suggested. Is that causing the sound difference?
Hi mate.
What cab you are using with the Torpedo C.A.B ?
Greets
Youreso good at explainingthat you have 0 likes! Great job! Im in love!
i'm so confused by this comment.
When you use the Two notes torpedo, do you record with the studio setting on our do you use the stack options and the cabinets disabled on the pod? Im not sure if the pod mics are disabled when I do this. Im using WOS III (cant afford the toredo :( ). Sweet vid btw.
Thanks dude! Yes I disable the cab, which ultimately disables the mic too. So I'm running the signal from the POD without a cab/mic to the Torpedo and then use the power amp, cab, and mic from there. Hope that helped!
Hey great video! thanks for sharing! I was wondering how to add a powerfull compressor to the set. i have been trying some, but without success. basically, what I want to achieve is a very long riff. how can i make it?
I saw some people using impulse responses for their pod hd pro, but I noticed that they also put a power amp simulation in the daw... what do you think about it?
I'm late to the party .. lol.. Excellent video ! Just bought one so this really helps .. It's a different world I'll tell ya that
Just ordered one yesterday lol. Whats your thoughts after a year ?
@@joshuagoudie2849 I had it for a few months, it was great! But i didn't do enough research at that point n time, not knowing there's a possessor called the "Kemper" that is head n shoulders above everything .. I'd even go Axe effects Ultra..
Take it from a guy that's spent allot of money trying different odds n ends.. Best advice you'll ever get my friend .. 🔬
I feel you there man. Ive looked into both the kemper and axe fx and although they're bad ass I cant afford one right now haha. I'm new to all of this modeling stuff so I wanted to get something relatively cheap to test the waters. O have a buddy that swears by the hd500 though so I thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks for the advice though buddy ill definitely look into those more once I'm a little more experienced with it .
thnx dude
How do you wire your rig for live use. Do you have a power amp or are you putting it through an fx loop. I am currently using a peavey 6505+ with a jcm900 cab
Neither! I use it with a Torpedo CAB. If i need a "louder" or fuller set up I resort to using the EVH5150iii with a Torpedo LIVE.
When I use the hard gate with the settings you recommended I find that the guitar cuts out when I let notes ring out too early and then it comes back in but I find the same problem doesn’t happen when I use the actual noise gate.
Do you have a thresh setting and the decay setting for the actual noise gate that you would recommend
HI!!! Thank you so much for this video, it helps me so much.
But I have a small question, can you tell me all your rig? cause ireally love your sound and I'm trying to get a new rig for my new Djent project with some of friends.
It would be really nice if you could explain me which pedals and rack unit to get and which cabinet, and how to plug everything, in that case I could have my own rig too and maybe it could help the other guitar players like me.
Cheers from Belgium!!! and I hope youwill reply me soon, or maybe replying me by making a video of your all guitar rig
See you soon dude!!!!
Hey man, i noticed that my tone's volume is way lower than the other ones in my pod and i've already tried to get the master of the cab up but it changes de tone. How can i get up the volume without modifying the tone?
Question! Do you have to do anything special to the POD in order to play and get a sound like that through just a cabinet?
could you show a tutorial for using 2 amp modelers together . Thanks
perfect tutorial, except for one thing, do not know why but when I added the vintage preamp it compromised the sound, was resonating to much on palm mutes, so I turned it off, but still sounds great. Thanx!!
yeah me too
On the pod hd 500x, the hard gate also has controls for 'Hold' and 'Decay' What would you recommend setting those to?
Set to 0 bro
Hey! have you tried the Axe FX? im searching for a good processor like the POD HD Pro and the Axe FX but the fractal is so damn expensive. hehe. still confuse of the 2 processor. any tips about this?
Atomic Amplifire
hi man! i have a quiestion , can i get the same setting with the pod hd desktop?? because in my edit window for the amp i only have 2 windows . i don not have the LOW CUT option
im planning to buy this exact same unit but do you think it sound good on a KRK KNS 8400 headphones? is it okay just to use this with headphones? your reply i smuch appreciated :D
Hey can you by any chance show some tips on making a good metal/rock tone with a Line 6 Pod XT Pro? Maybe also some good devin Townsend/tesseract type of clean tones
Hey dude,
I have personally never used that particular, but from my experience with various Line6 products I have realized that you cannot apply settings from one onto another as they each have their own feel and sound. Some amps sound better and worse depending on the unit. The best help I can give you is to try heading over to the Custom Tones section of the Line 6 website and see some of the tones that have already been uploaded to share. I'm pretty sure I found some tesseract cleans and some rlly god rocktones uploaded by others! Hope that helped!
This unit is far better than my Boss GT10, but the Noise Gate in the Boss is much much better.
hey bro, at 2:20, i followed the exact steps you did and my guitar sound nothing like yours when you switch "on" the amp. it still sound like 2:13ish. any ideas why >? i have EMG 81/60 actives
I'm following the settings you describe but, using a Pod HD300. I'm a newbie to this pedal. Any tips? It doesn't have all the bells and whistles a Pro has.
What speaker are you using for your output? A cab or like a QSC?? Thanks man
I'm looking to make this tone for a live performance, where would a volume pedal be best in the mix?
can i use a compressor in front of the amp to get more attack??
i have tried lots of tone....wat about the feedback....how can i cut the feedback if there is any??
lower the OUTPUT setting on the screamer, that might help
Hi mate, is there any reason why this dial in makes my pod cut in and out while all the settings are turned on?
Hey. can someone tell me how to bypass impulses and amps on the pod hd pro so i can use my own plugin for them?
where do you like to place the torpedo cab ? in the loop ? or just after the pod and then to the interface?
Hi dude, just a question, I see in the video that you are using Yamaha monitors maybe the HS series right? It seems that they are close to the wall but you are using some material behind them right? Could you please let me know what kind of material are you using? is it like isolations pads? I aks you due my room is small and according to the manual the speakers positions should be at least 1.5 meters away from walls or corners.

Please help******
For some reason I can not access the lo-cut screen youre on around 2:50
I'm,hitting the enter button, what am I missing?!?!
Yo Bro what you running that through? FRFR powerspeakers? Clean AMP? Cab?
Does the pod have a power amp built in? Or would you need to purchase one separately?
Can i run ir cab impulses in a daw or something without 2 notes or some sort of other rackmount piece of gear?
what you use guitar strings ? sir.
Do you have to buy additional amp models if you want certain ones? or can you just download them for free?.. i'm getting this relatively soon and i have no idea how to use it aha. i currently use Jamup pro for my effects and it seems to be roughly the same idea
hello Sir I am using a POD LINE6 HD 300 !
can you make a tutorial video to get a similar tone ? (I know this is a stupid question so far )
POD HD300 does not have much setting like studio eq and it doesn't have that kind of good pre amp even you can't place fx in the chain independently more than once what you did with noise gates !
thank you
are you plugged into an amp? i dont have an fx loop on my amp. is it a bad idea to use an amp simulation through my amp input clean channel? really need help with this one =(
Hi I have problem to connect Line 6 HD Pro X with Two Notes Torpedo, Can you help me?
why doesnt my 'amp settings' have a lo-cut option? is that something you have to download?
