    Especially in MW2 they put mechanics into play that made it harder to aim and which where basically reduced/countered by aim assist.
    So on top of the overpowered AA, they made MnK actively worse to play with.
    These mechanics are:
    High visual recoil --> gets countered by aim assist
    Bouncy shot to shot recoil patterns --> gets countered by aim assist
    High left/right reticle shift while strafing --> gets reduced significantly by aim assist (source TrueGameData video)
    and so on...
    As an MnK player you where always at a disadvantage, because the guns felt like crap to shoot, while controller players basically got carried by aim assist.
    Kinda unfair...

    One thing I rarely see mentioned is the players using controller have better bullet registry. When you have aim assist, similar to having an aimbot, all the shots you fire are going to register on your target. Where as with a mouse you can move the crosshair a fraction away from the targets center and the bullet no longer counts.

One thing that seems to plague me as a mostly mouse and key player is when I use my stim and zig zag around players with AA. @@Orange_Oranje I agree that controllers need some form av aim assist to even be relevant against K/M.
      I also agree that controllers need to be available as a legitimate option for those who may need them.
      The problem I see is that in for example newer Call of Duty games, the aim assist is so extremely overtuned that it's actually far superior for most people compared to K/M.
      If you actually learn how to use the aim assist (there's an actual strafing technique to it), then you can achieve extreme results.
      It's an extremely unfair advantage.
      The reason it's unfair is because the advantage does not come from skill but from an allowed cheat.
      Can a K/M pro overcome this advantage?
      Of course, but for 99% of people, the aim assist will win if used properly.
      The main issue with it is the rotational aim assist, that it follows the target automatically.

    15 years of MnK experience here. Recently tried out controller for Warzone specifically. Now, I'm not a professional player by any means, and I average 10 kills per game (on KBM). First few games playing on controller I had bursts of laughing on how overpowered it is. It's not even close and whoever says it's not OP is in denial. I am NOT good with a stick but AA does the rest. Very noticeable on pistol fights right when you drop. I've been dropping 20+ kills most of my games now. K/D went from 1.43 to 2.06 on Resurgence.
    There are so many issues with these but i'm going to just state a few that people haven't already mentioned:
    -AA close range makes it so that whoever has the faster killing gun wins. Hence the "META" aspect of Warzone is so prevalent. If neither me or the enemy misses a shot, whoever has the faster killing gun wins. Reduce AA and you will also reduce the amount of meta slaves, i'm sure.
    -SBMM is much more punishing for MnK players. Having a bad day on MnK while in sweaty lobbies as well feels downright depressing. On controller, even if I'm not 10 redbulls deep I can still compete due to AA.
    -Lots of people will move towards apps such as reWASD, me included. I bought this game to have fun, and MnK is my preferred input. If I can level the playing field using some software(actual hacks excluded), I will. After all, I'm leveraging what is already in the game and broken. Not using AA is gimping to a huge degree. Consider it my way of protesting AA. As soon as AA is nerfed, people will stop using such software for these purposes. Easy.
    You also mentioned that reducing aim assist by @30% would check more boxes, specifically helping lower skilled players as well. Not once in the discussion have I heard anything related to helping MnK players who are struggling. Not every MnK player is a God, and there ARE people with disabilities that play on MnK that are screwed over even more by AA. Thing is, MnK is a raw input, and people who suck will suck no matter what. But they have no crutches, and have miserable experiences. Not so much with controller players.
    There are 3 possible fixes for this:
    -Remove rotational all together. To compensate, make it so that the aiming speed matches the enemy player when on controller. You will still have to move your stick reactively to what they are doing, but it will help tracking.
    -Give MnK players a small degree of rotational aim assist that has a very low effective range, to only help in close range encounters, maybe up to 20m.
    -Input based matchmaking. Harsh, but it is what it is. Fixes every single problem, and as long as it's a toggleable feature I don't see how it could hurt.(besides higher queue times, but that would force lower SBMM as well)

    Pretty nice to hear that from someone that actually plays a lot on controller. I think implementing a "human like" delay for the tracking would work. A more extreme approach would be either scaling the strength of aim assist according to your sbmm "rank" or make it mandatory for the tracking to actually activate you at least have to aim in the general direction of the emy. So that whenever you are slidecanceling left and right the enemy at least has to move the stick left and right for the rotational tracking to actually activate. But these are just the dreams of a 41 years old dad who played FPS games since Counterstrike 0.51 that is just tired of watching killcams of closerange gunfights where you sweat your ass off by sliding/bunnyhopping only to see the obviously way worse player still track you pefectly and then kill you. • @Flux000
      @Flux000 10 місяців тому +4

      The reason for rotational AA being a thing is because it takes more time for a joystick to go from left to right (has to go though centre first) than for a mouse to change direction. This makes sense to do but the problem is the AA reaction time is instant while the mouse player has that human reaction delay to deal with.

      i know that aa to some degree is 100% necessary for controller players to keep up with mkb. BUT to implement it in a way that you bascially dont have to touch your right stick at all after centering on the enemy is still way too powerful. the reaction time is another issue but for me the best implementation would be a) make it necessary for the player to at least aim his right stick in the general direction of where the enemy moves to keep the tracking active or b) scale it down the better the player becomes. everyone in this game has some kind of hidden sbmm "ranking" about his skill level. just tone aa down the higher you get. @@Flux000

    What people need to understand is, that aim assist, especially auto rotational aim assist, has been introduced for one fundamental reason: Marketing.
    Activision is a multi-billion dollar company, within their marketing teams are business-psychologists who know exactly how a human will respond to certain types of dopamine stimuli. Roughly 90% of Warzone players are using a controller, which gives an obvious reason why AA is so tremendously strong. They want to make people believe they’re good. They are giving people moments of success. They are making people have dopamine rushes. They are essentially subconsciously leading you to buy items from the shop. This is the entire reason for why AA is op. CoD is not a game anymore, it is not a competitive environment anymore. It is a money making machine, sort of like a casino disguised as a first person shooter. Activision doesn’t care about their players. Activision doesn’t care about the quality of the game - As long as it does what is expected of it: Generate profit. They will not nerf AA, because if they were to do that, they would loose a significant amount of controller players, which in return would mean less profit at the end of the game’s life cycle. Ive started to focus on improving and I fully agree with what you are saying about aim assist overall, especially rotational.Tweeks to aim assist amounts and possibly some tweeks to sbmm would improve the experience for a vast amount of players, weather casual or competitive. A lot of the people that want to claim "oh my game doesn't have aim assist like that" simply don't understand or can't get the hang of how to utilize that aim assist properly. Myself being one of them.
    As a PlayStation player I feel like I'm one of the few weirdos that actually made the switch from controller to mouse and keyboard. I just never could actually get the hang of playing shooters of any game on a controller and personally do better on mouse and keyboard. But God damn it sometimes when you're sliding through a hallway and you get killed and watch the killcam it does slightly infuriate me to watch the aim assist kick in when somebody actually knows how to use it.

    I agree that rotational aim assist needs to be reduced somewhat. I think that would be a fair change.
    The arguments I hate seeing from M&K players are that aim assist is legal aimbot and aim assist must be removed entirely. Just my observation, but I think because M&K has historically been considered the more competitive input, many M&K players feel more pain when getting killed by controller players. As if there is no reason controller players should be able to best them. These weird arguments are a result of that I believe.
    The fact is that generally, controllers do need some form of aim assist. There's a reason its ubiquitous in the shooter space.
    I also believe that it is much easier to be precise on M&K. It generally is superior in most situations to controller, both in long and close ranges. It's rare to see the type of flicks and long range control that many PC players perform regularly, on a controller.
    But yes, I think COD may have gone a little too far with it's aim assist, but the type of reactions I see from M&K players are comical

      @makotomurazakieng6219 10 місяців тому +3

      it's been consistant and PROVEN that aim assist works like a legal aimbot, many clips are there with people testing it in a controlled environment.
      1) there is some auto recoil control helping the player to stay on target easily while some meta guns have already no recoil at all
      2) rotational AA instantly track a target within it's FOV in no time which clearly outmatches human reaction time
      3) testers like Hecksmith shows aim assist can lock and stick hard to the target with even dropshot being followed by AA which refutes Tacbrit's argument about dropshots stopping AA while it still track a bit even if it's way less sticky
      4) SBMM improves AA for low end players so they get a massive advantage against stronger players
      there are reasons why they did this :
      1. To shrink any possible skill gap.
      2. To safeguard the experiences of average and lesser-skilled players (majority of the player base).
      3. To stimulate longer session times among the majority of players, thus increasing the profitability of the player base.
      4. To mask when server-side meddling kicks in to influence the outcome of a battle when 'needed'.
      All popular titles have their own mix of techniques to achieve this; competitive integrity is dead, and has been for quite some years now.
      If your AA isn't that sticky or you claim your aim assist don't do that and not close to a legal aimbot, that's because you DIDN'T watch the 100000 tutorials to improve/tune it because yes, it's customisable and there are some settings to use for it to work like soft aimbot. If aim assist wasn't this strong, there wouldn't be so much people making the switch and dropping 10-15 their 1st matches while they never played controller before.
      overall, most M&K players claiming aim assist is legal aimbot are FACTUALS and some of these claims are the product of RESEARCHS.

    The other issue is _why_ aim assist has got this strong in COD, and I think a lot of that is the movement system. Way back in COD 2 or whatever you didn’t have sprinting, let alone sliding and diving and back button jumping, and so it simply didn’t need as much aim assist. Players moved more predictably, it was easier to track them on a pad. Slowly, that’s gone away and it’s become a very dynamic, frantic game. The only reason, why aim assist is so strong, that everyone can feel great, because everyone can get kills(, they normaly wouldn't have gotten). Als consoles are way cheaper than a proper gaming pc and a default controller is also cheaper than a mouse and or keyboard.
    Accordingly most kids/ teens, which is the majority of players and the target group, can't play on a decent pc. So if little Timmy has an awesome experience by also getting some kills, which he normaly wouldn't without a strong aim assist, he's gonna buy some skins in the shop with mom's credit card and Activision has achieved all they wanted: Getting more money.
    Aim assist, like it is in the new era of shooters, is a pain in the ass and destroys any form of skill expression unfortunatley. Game is catered to controller players to the max, for example insane muzzle flash and high visual recoil as mention in the video.
    Sadly I also think, that mkb is dying in shooter games, which is so ridiculous to me, because it's the far superior input device.

    I play K&M, I played plunder recently, and 1 guy was taking out my team and me like flies, I spectated him, had WAP 9mm, beast of a gun, no recoil, no nothing, we managed to take him out and I grabbed his loadout, to try the beast of a gun…20 years experience of playing K&M and I couldn’t control that gun, I was shooting anywhere but straight, the recoil was awful…doesn’t matter how to customise you loadout, controller players will never have the aiming and controlling problem, for controller any gun is meta

    I just want to BE ABLE TO disable crossplay. No way in hell is PC vs CONSOLE a fair fight, ever. Console players don't think M&K on PC is unfair, we think PC is unfair in general. The most obvious thing being readily available hacks on PC for dirt cheap, PC players run 4x the FPS & rendering distance, DS4 for macros, tuned audio buffers, overlays and can select region/servers at will and thats only the surface level stuff. Hearing PC gamers cry about a kid on xbox getting 40 FPS @ 1080p getting "aim assist" while playing on a $6,000 gaming pc running 200 FPS @ 4k running 120FOV it makes me laugh hysterically 😂

      Yea yea whatever it's a game designed for the new consoles not for a relic. Next gen console have on average the same or more fps than a pc player. You mistake the average player with a streamer that has a 4090 that costs 2400euros. Also if you look at the numbers 120 fps vs 160 for example have 2ms diference if that's what's killing you you are bot period. You are whinning for 0.001% of players with a good pc 🤣🤣

    I'd be open to adding a small delay to AA where the tracking assist doesn't automatically change the exact moment their target changes direction which can carry the controller user in a fight. It could be something like a 90-150 millisecond delay so it's JUST enough for directional changes to outmaneuver aim assist by escaping the invisible circle where it's active, but not enough of a delay where it becomes completely useless and AA is being broken consistently by movement

    • @conflict6248
      @conflict6248 8 місяців тому

      yeah 100% this is one of my biggest problems with AA. They hold a corner or door and if you ran thru they tracking starts with 0 ms reaction time, so even if you have the fastest gun setup and fly thru that door it will still react and track you instantly

    Yeah I’d like to disable cross play as well. But I actually made the switch to K/M on console because aim assist being so strong made it hard for me to track fast moving targets parachuting in especially with snipers. It’s so sticky that you can’t lead a target appropriately. But now I realize I traded that advantage for several massive controller advantages. Specifically up close, I just get absolutely rinsed because I actually have to see who I’m shooting at in dark areas or rooms filled with smoke. It’s BS.

    For normal MP, Crossplay is good for keeping the community big on older CoDs. If you only play Warzone casually crossplay is totally fine. The moment you try to make Warzone something competitive crossplay should be yeeted out the window. The problem for me is I like to try my best when I play these games but I just got way to frustrated in Warzone 1.0 when you see people just apparalty tracking that one dot on your chest perfectly without any recoil whatsoever in killcams. Havent really played the last Warzones much because of that.

    I play both, and it's glaringly obvious that RAA wins me more gunfights. It's especially noticeable in warzone because of the armour. As you say, it needs turning down to a level that equates its response to the average human response time. Then, the playing field would be at least as level as can be. As for the cheating, we'll that's entirely on Activision and their persistent failure to deal with it in the first place on verdansk. It went on too long, and suspicion is now the default choice, couple that with the crap servers and the amount of odd deaths due to super bullets and lag, and the assumption is everyone is cheating.

    I can play both inputs at a very good level and the point you bring up at 7:40 is exactly what I'm saying as well. I'd hope for future games the AA will be reduced again to provide a higher skill gap again, then add the option for input based matchmaking. the main argument for overtuned AA is that people can't compete against MnK players, if we had input based MM this argument would be invalid.

    by reducing aim assist as a nerf in this game not only it will be beneficial for mnk player but it will also encourage controller players to put more time into practicing aiming on their own and not relieing on machine to kill a person, as of now in close quarter fights its pretty much not debatable to compare inputs,and for the people who type you can 180 or whatever person who is behind you its 0.0001% of the time that u can utilize that mechanic in this game

Every player in every decent lobby hits every shot,. The practical TTK is ridiculously high even though the theoretical is in a decent place. Nerf AA to widen the skill gap, but also reduce gun bounce when shooting while moving to reduce randomness

    Something you did not really touch on is what the devs could do - clean up visual clutter, make optics a free attachment or rework iron sights, make the crosshairs change color slightly any time a controller would get AA pull - this happened in old CODs on PC. This would help level the field.

    COD has the most excessive aim assistance out of any title and I love playing on MKB (it's more fun and requires more skill), but in order to keep up with players at a competitive level I'm finding myself forced to use controller (which really socks having to use am input I don't want to just to remain competitive)

    As someone who had swapped to PC for over a year, and was primarially a controller/console users (Series x most recently), the absolute EASE of having aim assist vs mouse and keyboard is alot more massive than controller player, more specfically console only players even realize. Can PC people snap aim? I mean sure, but they still have to be accurate, and in games like warzone or MW3 where ttk is higher, missing any shots at all is basically a death sentence. In fact AA was such an issue even in games like Halo Infinite where they added some level of it for mouse and keyboard players, and the games just fine. I can play both inputs and have fun on either one and perform the same on either one.
    I think the biggest thing you highlighted and most important is, that crossplay games should be enjoyable across the board, regardless of input, and the likelihood of getting matched against PC players who have god aim is FAR FAR lower than the likelihood of getting matched against average level MnK users. That being said, I think COD should follow the Halo example and match that, because the biggest thing I noticed about swapping back to controller for MW3, is that recoil feels far more stamped out, and rotational AA feel super strong. Another thing you mentioned is that Console players have a more than reasonable enough FPS these days, where they are hardly at any major disadvantage anymore. AA absolutely cannot be removed from controller as it is needed, but I think they can tone it down and maybe, possibly, add some sort of slowdown or whatever Halo did as an option for mouse and key, and I think that will bring the game more in line between inputs.

    Great video Lachy! Only thing i would “ disagree” on if you can even call it that, is rotational needs to be completely removed, AA should be right stick activated only, and only on when the stick is tracking the player. There is zero reason it should stick to a targeting moving across the screen with only left stick input or even worse, no input at all.

    There is no "high ranking pros" on controller with that OP aim assist. Sometimes aim assist does ALL the work, the player needs to do nothing. At low-mid range a PC player stands NO chance to beat aim assist. That is why Pc players are using controllers. Why wouldn t they?

  • @merc9nine
    @merc9nine 10 місяців тому +1

    Aim assist is bad because it just removes many potential situations where you can outplay your oponnent in a gunfight with movement changes, whether it be speed or direction. I just think there should be no aim assist at all. I can use controller on PC and consoles can use MNK. Those are choices and preferences. One of those preferences shouldnt be given special abilities because it is deemed by the people using it, to be slightly harder. It definitely shouldn't be given special abilities to the point where its now objectively not only gone from the slightly more difficult method, to clearly easier input method.

    KBM player here, It's definitely a crutch for lower skill players to get kills they wouldn't otherwise, but I don't think its as big an issue as people make out. You will still beat a bad player with aim assist the vast majority of the time with movement, positioning and actively using cover like you should be anyway, it just means you should never sleep on someones ability to fry you even if they move like a bot with broken pathing. The reality is, when its sweat vs sweat the input/aim assist is almost never the deciding factor, mostly down to position and decision making. It could use a tweak to nerf down the rotational bit at close range but honestly people need to just be better at owning their deaths/mistakes. We all like having something to blame a bit too much

      It would be better to just tone down the aim assist on controllers rather than try to implement a new aim assist system on a completely different aiming system.
      Aim assist exist because mouse and keyboard is inherently more accurate when aiming than a controller but they've simply buffed it further than it ever needed to be.
      When you look at when they first implemented cross play it sucked because mouse and keyboard was unbelievably dominant over controllers. Then when cold war came out they found a pretty decent balance for it that people weren't really complaining about it all that much. They had other things they were still complaining about but the aim assist really wasn't that big of an issue and you had a pretty even split among the call of duty pro community as to players using mouse and keyboard or controller. Now you can see just how overpowered aim assist has become because 99% of all call of duty pros play on controller because especially with an already high skill level that they have the aim assist just buffs that even more.

  • @VincentPeer
    @VincentPeer 10 місяців тому

    As a lifelong controller player, I tried MnK and couldn’t handle the keyboard. The mouse, however, was pretty easy to aim with immediately. Made shots at range SOOO much easier. At the time, I would’ve said strong aim assist was necessary for controller players. Now (5 years later) I think you’re right, it’s gotten too strong. It does allow less skilled players to win gunfights they shouldn’t. And worse (for me) is it will get you killed taking on 2-3 people. All it takes is for you to commit to shooting someone, and their teammate crosses in front of you. It’ll drag your aim right off of who you’re shooting, but behind the other guy, so you’re not landing shots on anyone anymore. For sure, rotational aim assist should get at least 30%. I think your numbers are spot on. I would even be okay with 50%. I wonder… I haven’t experimented with the other aim assist settings. You think there’s one already in game that people can use that does just that? Does precision aim assist resemble that?

    I think you hit the nail on the head. It'll increase the "skill gap". I've only been on WZ for about three years moving from old console to gaming rig etc... investing more time into it. I literally hadn't gamed for over a decade.
    I started out on controller and decided to move to KbM on WZ2 (Bad Idea) but I actually finished with a better KD than WZ1. I've decided to stick with because I genuinely enjoy that its more satisfying and harder. You literally have to play different, set up guns different, take fights different and all the rest.
    What always surprised me the most about this community it constantly screams for "skill gap" but won't discuss the easiest way to achieve that by reducing AA or at least altering it. People want more movement, more health... well now they have those and their still not happy. Its like people are that scared of losing their KD they don't care about being given a crutch.
