I went from a peterbilt 389 to a lonestar and absolutely love it. I've driven a lot of trucks including the PACCAR 2.1 meter cabs, T660s, W900L, Fruitliners, 9900i, FLD and none of them have impressed me more than my Lonestar. It's up to 900k and other than the typical cummins leaks that I've had fixed and a clutch, the truck has remained very reliable and smooth. I was thinking about replacing my lonestar with another lonestar or HX but I just can't justify spending all of that money on overpriced parts. Cab shocks at $300, Lonestar bumper is $7,000!!!! Navistar specific parts like the air cleaner filters are $300 each, fan clutch hub $2500. Just overkill. Due to the current market, I've actually decided to sell my truck and get out of trucking so my HX dream can remain a dream.
Very nice. Welcome back International. I think the company owes you for such an outstanding review. I don't think I've seen one so well done by a guy who does the job.
I gotta say, in my 50 years of owning trucks, I've had cabover and conventional style trucks and I always loved the international eagles, when they did away with the "F" cabs I cried, but your outstanding review of this tractor has me rethinking getting away from both W900L's and 379EH's great job on this thurough insite.
Been running a 2020 hx520 for about 5 months now. Absolutely love it. Have the old interior so not as much room up front. Hard to get your butt swung around and knees past the console / shifter to get in the back. I’m 5’10” and 180. Still a great platform though. I love my square hood. Just passed 400,000 km the other week.
I’ve been an international guy my entire life and while I was very sad that they discontinued the 9900i in 2018 this truck makes it all better I absolutely love the hx great looking truck man. Thanks for the video !!!!
I definitely miss my time running around in MN, from Albany to around Fergus along with Mtn. Lake and Mankato. Been all over there, I genuinely love that state!
Drove one a few months ago.....not a big International fan.....but have to say very nice. Probably one of the nicest interiors and cab/dash layouts on the market.
My everyday is an 09 t800 with a cat c13 with emissions. Love that bastard. All millions miles of her. The backup is a 22 western liner freight star. 265 wb. Rides nice, turns like the titanic, has a 450 cummins. Pulls great. What i cant get over is the build quality. The 4900 only has 124k on it. Rattles and creaks constantly. My t800 doesnt make a sound and thats sayin something for a springride truck. Ill take my kw over the western shaker anyday. Just more comfortable. And the t800 walks all over the star. The star is huge, 265 wb and thats with a setback front axle. Long as all get out. T800s a 240ish very maneuverable. Oh btw, the fuel mileage will go up a little after shes broke in. Started out like yours and now runs around 7.5 to 8. Only thing its got over the t800.😂
I know exactly what you're talking about, I had an '07 T800 with a 40" FLATTOP, non aerocab with a tweaked ISM (10.8 liter Cummins) that I lived in over the road for 3 years, 13 spd, and 3.70's... I love that truck to hell and back. We had a fleet of other trucks that rhymed with shit, *cough cough* "mack" and by 200k, stuff randomly fell off, injectors died, whereas my 1.4 million mile kw never lost a screw. Can't beat b model kw quality, but the HX gives them the best run for the money I've ever seen
I never knew tankers go otr. Nice truck good video. That’s some beautiful country you drove thru at the end as well. Not a trucker just like big trucks. Get to see a lot of cool ones when I’m working. But I’m thinking about getting my cdl over the winter while I’m laid off. Really want to drive a tri axle around for some reason
Iam pulling tanker too. I have 9400I. Never had any major problems- most companies am applying for require 5 years or newer truck. Really thinking of the HX.
@aztxtransport2776 It's been a great truck so far. Getting close to 200k miles and nothing has rattled off, which is more than I can say about some other new trucks
The outside looks different, but the inside reminds me of the LT especially the cab. Which to be honest I like those gauges and cluster in the HX and LT.
Thanks for the tour... If the new S13 engine does well like I think it will, I'd love to order a HX520 with a 515hp S13 engine and a 13 or 18 speed manual. Early reports have been good about the S13 MPG. one report of a guy that ran dry van for 2 months with a S13 powered LT, 65k to 80k gross weight averaged 11 MPG. Heck I'd be thrilled to have 7 or 8 MPG
I wish I could let the black smoke roll like my old Cummins, but steam in the winter is the best we'll get with these emissions trucks these days unfortunately
This HX520 really has it all... The Design, the beautifull cab nice dash altho i do see tooo much Scania in that (and i hate scania it's one of the worst curbsniffers in Europe *I broke a couple by working them hard, currently trouble free MAN TGS Curbsniffer* ) buuuut i do like that classy feeling of oldskool gauges which makes it all worth while again in this new Int. Truck. Great video thanks for tthis walk around! Greetz from the Netherlands Bjorn
Since the company went mostly to Mack’s, I miss the bunk hvac controls in the front and the paper towel holder that was in my International. The bunk is too high off the floor in this Mack too!
Thanks! She's pretty heavy with the A.P.U. and Herd bumper on it now, 32,700 with an empty Walker 6200 gal, but at 100,000 miles so far it's still like driving a bank vault inside. Music is by Will Harrison, songs are Southern lights and Travelin Mind respectively 👍
I’m guess this is your truck or is it a company truck? I have to say I do like it. Would be curious on how it is with some miles. I drove an 9200i that I liked but man it rattled. Also what was the WB and what was the stamped weight? I pull a pneumatic so that is something that is important to me. Good job on the review. 👍
Company truck, I've been with them a long time, and I had a fairly strong influence on what it was... at a 240" wheelbase, Cummins, every option and an APU, she is on the heavy side. About 20,300 full of fuel with all my junk, my dog and myself in it. No rattles at 17,000 miles yet, I'm hoping the reinforced cab eliminates the chance for it in the future.
Nice truck, im on a trip now in brand new LT , very impressive rig, its a hyw truck of course buts it says 18 000 tare , what does your tractor weigh like it is full of fuel and all your stuff in it ?
They door offer a separate plain mirror/spot mirror mounted on a c-hoop with the antenna mount up high where it belongs. I would've rather had that myself
@joestalter5999 I haven't gotten just the tractor weight, but our tanks weigh anywhere from 10,500 to 11,000 lbs, which would put my tractor at 21,500 ish. That's with a Herd bumper and Green APU.. The tractor weight on the sticker in the truck is below 20k. The Cummins itself adds 800lbs over the A26 or S13, so there's plenty of options to get under 20k full of fuel and supplies
Well im still a rookie but I have done a fair bit of city work and all of it has been in older more classic trucks like FLD's and classic petes. These trucks look like a whole different world to me, its weird how much more refined and luxury these rigs can be. But obviously this is for long haul, you would have lots of trouble doing any tight city work with a truck this size.
How hard is it to get into food tanker? I've wanted to do that... but I've contacted a few and they have all turned me away. I've been driving now for 4.5 yrs with a clean record, pulling dry van. Been owner for 3 of those yrs. Any insight? I own a Lonestar and would love to get an HX 520!
Sure looks like International stepped-up game with thier truck. Wish they could do that with the dealership shops. Where I am from anyway they are not too reliable
As of right now, little to nothing... There's 116,853 on the clock and the only thing that has given us an issue was a NOx sensor in the aftertreatment, which was covered under warranty. Aside from that, we service it every 25k miles, I wash it at least once a week and it gets 6.5 mpg on average loaded.
What was the price for a truck specced like this? I know a w900 is still priced around $250k which isn’t really realistic unless your pulling some kind of oversized/ heavy haul with the rates to back it up.
Given the track record of the old Maxxforce, we decided to go the safe route with the Cummins... We do have an RH with the A26 (new 13 liter IH engine) so maybe it will prove itself
Other than protecting the front end, we use Ali-Arcs over Herd bumpers because they're more cost effective. Sure, the herd is fancier, if you get the top dog road train. But I think the Ali-Arc gives you the same protection and most of the looks for half the money
My company bought me a 2024 Pete 579. Auto (💩) Paccar 13 ltr (💩). Governed at 75. I can't get 6mpg empty. 5.6 empty, 4.5 loaded. The truck is such a pile of crap. I'm a huge International fan! The old Transtars and 9900i. I'd love to have a new HX.
I like international kenworth they both make great trucks I've always been a fan of ih I had 9900i now w990 kenworth put a million on the 9900i so hoping to get it out of 990 but with this emissions crap I don't know already starting with headaches
And, your rear gears are probably different as well as the fact your truck is far more aerodynamic than mine. Also probably has nothing to do with the fact I run at 80k 75% of my miles, but hey bud, you do you.
Why did you show one truck in the yard then another truck on the road because the truck in the yard was a right handed shifter and the one you was driving was a left handed shifter 😮
The green apu control panel is absolutely hideous. Why would they make the controller white when none of the trucks have white interiord. Not to mention that it is surface mount with visible wires and electrical connector. They really need a controller with flush mount option and different color faceplates. I won't buy one until they come out with a better control panel. Many drivers have cellular wifi hotspots and some have hotspots built into elog equipment so why don't they integrate wifi into the apu controller so drivers can control the apu from their phones and set temperatures before arriving at the truck and the manufacturer can monitor faults and maintenance remotely. Bluetooth would also be a cool option so a driver can control it from the phone while in the truck or even the driver seat.
It's definitely not the best looking... but it is very simple and one touch control, just set the temp and it'll cycle between heat and a/c with you having to do a thing.
The 589 Pete I think is a worthy successor to the 389, they kept the classic hood and air cans, just put it all on the 579/567 cab. The bumper to back of cab even gained a 1/2 inch, going from 131 to 131.5. I hope the b-cab w9 never dies, but if it does, I only hope kw follows Pete's lead and puts air cans on the 990 along with a less hideous grille
Nice Truck but it is still an International. Nothing wrong with the Truck itself but the international dealer network sucks balls! They work Bankers hours and you cant get anything done on the weekend. The trucking industry is 24/7/365 so the dealer networks should be also. I don't know what happend but dealerships used to be open 24/7. International also has to many proprietary parts that they want an arm and a leg for and are never in stock! So no thanks! When I get rid of my currant Prostar I will be moving along to Kenworth or Western Star.
Both trucks you mentioned are far more aerodynamic, and there's no contest between a Detroit and a Cummins when it comes to fuel economy. Take all that into account, and 6.5 avg isn't bad for a Cummins powered flying brick
You're a real gear jammer with your gay gear shifter extensions, I bet your engine brake is always on and you hear it driving around the truck stop ? It's a corn binder really not a big deal!
I don’t think it needs to be. All 3 are established brands with their fans. I will say international is well respected aside from in America. Jamaican truckers love the internationals and have them decked out lovely.
We'll let the miles tell, I've driven many trucks and in my opinion, nothing will beat a b-cab KW. That being said, everything is cheap now, and the IH offers better everything for the money (at least in the HX)
There all made from the same stuff man, every truck these days won’t be of the quality they once where but they are definitely on top with the HX model !
I went from a peterbilt 389 to a lonestar and absolutely love it. I've driven a lot of trucks including the PACCAR 2.1 meter cabs, T660s, W900L, Fruitliners, 9900i, FLD and none of them have impressed me more than my Lonestar. I have a kw t600 with 3406e. And a 2015 Mack cxu with the M drive. I love how quiet the macks are and how they handl.
Great review, nice truck. Glad to see International step up their game. This was one of the best reviews I’ve ever seen!
Thank you! I tried to make sure to cover the important things that a lot of people have asked before
Very nice. Welcome back International. I think the company owes you for such an outstanding review. I don't think I've seen one so well done by a guy who does the job.
Beautiful truck . International and Cummins a winning combination.

Thank you for the compliments, I love all rigs in general with the many I've driven, glad I could help show an alternate cool truck!
Gorgeous truck, brother. Happy trails!

Awesome looking truck! Thank you for sharing, would love to see it in real life!
Thank you, probably see me anywhere on I-80 from Jersey to Salt Lake City. Either that or Upstate N.Y or on my way to Joplin via the back way

Nice review I've liked Into since back in 1973
Thank god! Anything but another over and over restroked Pete! Congrats man nice truck 👍
Man, it's a really nice unit. I would love to see one in person.
Nice looking truck! I was always an International fan. Just wished they would have got into the glider kits. I'm not into the newer emission engines.
Nicest Combiner ever .Nice truck

Dang them Internationals are pretty nice inside. Good on them for keeping real gauges. Our w990 has the digital. Not a fan lol
Needs some half fenders to protect the back of the cab.

Fyi in the hvac box under there hood. There is a hidden air filter. Close to the firewall.
Good to know, I wondered if they had one
Hello! What is the maximum speed of your super-truck!?
75 mph or 120 kph, could run faster, but no sense in making the engine scream

Ahh got to stick to w9kwokla yes it is 24 is the last yr of long nose Pete’s and w9 s unless they changed
Anything that’s brand new looks good. Besides your engine being nice, International is a.TRASH truck unless you have 9900.
6mph? Volvo does way better than that. And my 2000 t600 kw 12.7 detroit 10spd 3.70 gears is getting me 8 mpg. And its paid for.
Both trucks you mentioned are far more aerodynamic, and there's no contest between a Detroit and a Cummins when it comes to fuel economy. Take all that into account, and 6.5 avg isn't bad for a Cummins powered flying brick
Cool story.
At the end of the day it's still an I h and not a kw
Always gotta be someone but hurt for no reason
This video is a year old, how about you do a 1 year review
@trucker1375 I plan on doing one soon, just passed 200k miles, I do have a 100k mile update on my channel as well
6 mpgs is nothing to brag about ;)
Made in Mexico 🇲🇽
You're a real gear jammer with your gay gear shifter extensions, I bet your engine brake is always on and you hear it driving around the truck stop ? It's a corn binder really not a big deal!
Since it's an emissions truck, the Jake doesn't make noise, and I never leave it on to shift because I like clean shifts
It will never be a Peterbilt or Kenworth or even a classic xl
I don’t think it needs to be. All 3 are established brands with their fans. I will say international is well respected aside from in America. Jamaican truckers love the internationals and have them decked out lovely.
International is a cheap truck no matter how you dress it 👎
We'll let the miles tell, I've driven many trucks and in my opinion, nothing will beat a b-cab KW. That being said, everything is cheap now, and the IH offers better everything for the money (at least in the HX)
There all made from the same stuff man, every truck these days won’t be of the quality they once where but they are definitely on top with the HX model !
Yes I would too take this over 389 and the new Pete any time
