Driving over the Cascade Mountain Pass is always exciting, but this time, I parked on the very top of the pass at Santiam Sno-Park to snowshoe alone into the Mount Jefferson Wilderness and camp there for a night. The 360-degree views were breathtaking from the start, with Mt. Washington, Three Fingered Jack, and The Three Sisters always in sight. I couldn’t help but notice the signs of the enormous wildfire that burned there in 2003, the B and B Complex Fire. You can find out a little bit more about it in this video.
The last few times, I camped in snowstorms, but this time I had warm and sunny weather with a beautiful sunset and stunning evening light. I even managed to make a little campfire.

What an incredible view! Thank you!
It really is. Thanks for watching and subscribing :)
Beautiful view!!!! Stay safe🙏
Thank you so much. You stay safe as well, but with lots of amazing adventures :)
What a fantastic spot. Loved it.
Yeah, it was really breathtaking there, and I will return at some point when the snow is gone, which might not be until July or so.
I love your video! Living through that fire was a nightmare. And I never understood why we never replanted the forest. It’s always made me so angry. Thank you for sharing your adventure though. I am disabled and could never get into the backcountry.
Thank you for watching, Janis. It must have been crazy with the fire up there the way it was described in the reports. When looking at the damage, I thought it might only be a few years old, but I was shocked to hear that it was from 2003. There is hope, though. New trees are in many places already. Nature finds a way. :) I also hope that you find ways to enjoy this beautiful landscape even if it's not the backcountry. I love the dense network of forest roads here, and some give you pretty amazing views as well. I'm only just beginning to learn my way around. I moved here a year ago. Take care, Janis. :)
I'm going to work on a special video on wildfires and prevention soon. I shot much of the footage already, but I want to return to last year's big fire spot near Oakridge to show what a forest looks like right after a fire. It would actually be interesting to hear from someone who lived through a massive fire like this. Maybe we can connect again when I'm getting ready to write the script for the video? It would be nice.
@@adventuresandreams it would be better if you could find one if the people who lived through the fire in Oakridge or Detroit. Only because their memories are more recent. I don’t know if I even remember the details from 20 years ago.
@@janisday344 Yes, that's true. I will see if anyone wants to share their experience with me when I head that way again. I drove through it when the smoke was so thick that my N95 mask, closed windows, and vents weren't even enough to keep the smoke out. I can't even imagine what they must have gone through for so many weeks.
@@adventuresandreams I just think your video would be better with someone with recent experience
Hello! Very nice spot you made the right choice. Great trip, camping on full snow in such temps without freezing or struggling, that’s nice. I haven’t seen you in some time. I believe I’ve seen you come down from Canada and camp in the Adirondacks. Did you move west or are you on a trip? Nice video
I'm glad you found my videos again :) Thanks for watching. Yes, this spot was amazing and the temperatures were just unbelievable for "winter camping." It was a nice change from the snowstorms I filmed a few weeks ago.
I moved to Oregon last year in February and started posting videos from my new home pretty regularly. You can find out about my move in this video ua-cam.com/video/VwVNPxpCt70/v-deo.html
This location has so much to offer, so many completely different environments. I can drive for 30 minutes and see the high desert, dense forests, lava fields, and alpine regions. I love it and have endless material to film. Maybe you'll check out some of my new videos. It would be nice. Take care and thanks for the years of support. It means the world to me.
