      Lady Fervor because white people for the longest time have been the mainstream primary sources of exposure in the makeup industry and honestly until recently not a lot of black focused makeup brands were out there. The relief is there for a reason. Don’t just dismiss people’s experiences.

      @Lady Fervor I don't understand why you're being so defensive when OP never attacked white people in any way. She just said she was glad someone acknowledged darker skin tones in this video.
      Also, the vast majority of the makeup artists and consultants in the world ARE NOT black. The only well-known black makeup artist I can think of off the top of my head is Natasha Denona, who focuses more on creating new products nowadays instead of being a consultant. That's why black women are glad when people acknowledge them, because they tend to get overlooked in a lot of aspects in the beauty world besides just representation.

    Beauty Tip Tuesday: Eyes
    Which shades of eyeshadow and eyeliner will best enhance and intensify your color? I want people to say, "your eyes look beautiful," not "your eyeshadow looks pretty." Makeup is always about enhancing your personal beauty.
    The most important thing to think about when choosing eyeshadow and eyeliner is your own eye color. You want to select shades that will bring out the natural color of your eyes. Your goal is to make your eye color POP and stand out, not for your eyeshadow to compete or diminish your natural color.
    The key is to select a shade that is the opposite of your eye color. Whenever you pair two opposite colors, they intensify each other (this is a theory discovered and proven by Leonardo da Vinci).
    Example: Blue eyes should choose a warm shade of brown or tawny or golden shades. Green eyes should choose coppery, warm browns or purple. Brown eyes? Lucky you! You can use any color and it will not compete with your eye color!

      Robert this is probably the most comprehensive & easily understood color wheel description and skin tone lesson I've ever seen. Most descriptions I've watched were either too vague or just overall confusing. This is perfectly understandable and helpful, I thank you.

    • @Allyson6C
      @Allyson6C 8 років тому

      ***** he's given the answers to this. All we have to do is look or use the shades that are opposite on the color wheel of our eye color. So deep blue would use like rusty brown/sunset colors or golds and coppers in order to make blue eyes pop. Go back to his video and pause it so you can really get a good look at complimentary opposites. This is one of the best/easiest descriptions I've seen using color theory on UA-cam.

    • @Allyson6C

    I ❤️ Robert Jones!! I have a few of his books and I stalk his website 😂 what I love about him is he is the first makeup artist to address that some colors make some tan or darker skin tones look ashy!! I'm a light olive tan color and colors like satin taupe look horrible on me!! It was a time that all the beauty bloggers were using that color and I would try to recreate a look and it would never look good... He addressed this in one of his many fabulous videos, he said that taupe make olive skin look ashy, it's better to use a brown with more red in it he called it a specific color that I can't remember but he was 100% right!!!! I no longer listen to bloggers who say to use satin taupe, I mean I know that I have to adjust it to my skin tone and I ❤️ him for that!!! He had me at ashy!!

      All you have to do is mix two, any two primary colors. The last remaining color of that mix is the opposite on the color wheel.
      Green is blue and yellow, two primary colors. The last primary color is red so red is the opposite
      Purple is blue and red, last primary color is yellow
      Orange is red and yellow, so the last primary is blue

    Purple sits between blue and red on the color wheel. To make a warm purple you mix in more red than blue, if you mix yellow into your purple(red and blue) you are essentially mixing all three primary colors together and you get brown.

    • @sweetpjeb23
      @sweetpjeb23 5 років тому +12

      This isn't necessarily true. In order to make it more warm toned you add in yellow but not the same amount of yellow as the other two colors. If you add more red and it'll just look more red. You add in blue and it'll just look more blue. There's more than just the red and blue happening which is what gives a color depth.
      Dying at everyone in the comments questioning this. Pretty sure this guy knows his color wheel.

    My eyes are grey. A true grey. Like steel grey. I have very minimal flecks of blue/green. I wear some shade of pink almost all the time. I’m old (44) and back in high school my mom had my colors “analyzed”. I had already gone through middle school looking terrible since I don’t have the complexion of anyone else in my family. I wear a lot of grey, black, and brighter pastels ( I look awesome in very pale grey/lavender). I use the color wheel a lot but seeing it with the eye shades is extremely helpful. I always have to tell my hubby not all grey or purple looks good on me. I very much favor cool tones for my complexion and mostly for my eyes but I can’t always stand it so I will liven things up with some funky eyeliner that doesn’t look like it belongs on my face at all! But I love it and sometimes being a fashion victim is fun!

      I was wondering the same thing too! I have also have grey eyes. Red eyeshadow? As a redhead(strawberry blonde or ginger), I loved when he said blush no darker than you flush after exercise. Huh? That puts me over in the ebony shade hues with extremely fair, cool toned skin. How do I balance cool eyes and cool toned skin with warm toned hair for lip colors? Redhead lips typically show quite ruddy hues like their cheeks, so pale lipsticks look odd, while darker hues make lips look older, thinner and receed. What do I look for to find a balance? Once again, it feels like my coloring is fighting itself. I would love some advice!!

    I'm not even sure what colour my eyes are. They're a mix of grey, green and blue. How they look depends on the lighting and what I'm wearing. This video will help me be a bit more adventurous, I hope. I'm bored of nudes!

    These are things I kind of just picked up intuitively for myself but it is really cool to see it spelled out.
    I also disagree a little with smaller lips with darker color lipsticks. It can be done but you kind of have to do an ombre lip or lighter in the middle. I would say that darker lips are trickier, not a no-no, for smaller lips.

    I feel like the lipstick part is the only part where he was kinda wrong, I’m extremely pale with a cool undertone and dark lipsticks look great with my skin, in fact I hardly ever wear lighter lipsticks

    It's also nice to know that a darker lipstick can make you look older. (I'm 28 but people think I'm at least 10 years younger most of the time and sometimes I get really tired of that.) The color wheel thing for the eye shadows made a lot of sense to me.. Except blues. I can never get along with blues (I have brown eyes). They always make me look like I come out of the 80's, I don't like it.

  • @SandyDiVa
    @SandyDiVa 7 років тому +58

    I disagree on the lipstick. I'm the fairest neutral color. ANYTHING bright makes me look dead. Grey undertones taupes, grey purples and muted plums and browns are the ONLY colors that name new look healthy. Those colors you had near my foundation shade would make me look awful. I do have a very unique skin tone though. Very fair but light olive undertone...I look dirty and grey without makeup. Don't kept the pic fool you, that's really yellow lighting and all makeup is fake put on by an app lol! I've tried so many lipstick colors and the only ones that look good cannot have a pink base. Brown and grey bases are what warm my pale face up. I do agree lighter looks better but some dark shades look really nice too depending on the shade.

      Sandy DiVa you've might experiencing bad color selection. Neither bright nor deep, if you chose the right color for you they're worked well. Olive (yellow-green color) toned person look great with red and purple. I'm olive person too and I admit that colors are my savior for makeup and clothings. Therefore I have to stay away from blue/orange as that two colors drag down my skin.

      I’m also both olive and pale!!! I hate that I can never find a foundation that matches me 😩 but on the bright side the olive undertones cancel out redness so that’s one less thing we olive girls have to deal with 😁

    Purple is made by mixing blue and red so how come you describe a warmer violet as a color that has more of a yellow...that is not correct.
    I think that a viloet color has more red than blue in it, in contrary to purple that has more blue in it (cooler).
    What makes the violet warmer is more red into it not more yellow...

      I think he was referring to undertones, warm tones = yellow, cool tones= blue. He also mentioned that make up colors don't completely work the same as normal colors.

    • @Youtubegavemyhandletosomeone
      @Youtubegavemyhandletosomeone 5 років тому +24

      Purple is made from a base of red and blue. To change its warmth or coolness you need to add yellow or blue because that changes it’s tint. Adding more primary colors only changes the color to a tertiary color rather than making it a warmer or cooler version. Colors are not just their two parts.

      Lucia Breccia I think RBY is the primaries for pigments and MCY is for printing and or light or something like that. They're both primary colors just in their own realms if you get what I'm saying. Learned this years ago so I might be wrong somewhere but point is, both sets are primaries
