How Much I Spent In A Day As A Tourist In Singapore | SEA's Most Expensive City
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 лис 2024
- Singapore is known as one of the best cities in Asia (and in my opinion, the world!), but it does come at a hefty enough price tag. If you are traveling here as a tourist, expect that things will cost substantially more on a whole compared to the rest of South East Asia. But having said that, there are some ways to make it more budget friendly, so come join me for a day of touring around and checking out some of the most popular tourist attractions to see just how much I spend in a day in Singapore!

Hope you enjoyed the video, here's a link to the hostel I stayed at, as well as attraction passes that could save you some money when visiting:

For the soft boiled eggs, we usually had some thick soy sauce and maybe pepper to it. It makes it a lot better. When u order the set, look around for a small basket with these 2 condiments in them. U usually take one with you and return it after u are done.
If you're a big fan of walking and wandering in a city, Singapore can be the place for you. What you're really paying for in Singapore is something that most countries in Southeast Asia CANNOT offer : A quiet, extremely SAFE place to walk and wander without having to worry about anything. I agree that hotels are insanely expensive. But public transport is very, very affordable, and hawker food is very, very cheap and very good. There are always good things and bad about any city. Singapore is no exception.
Singapore is anything but quiet. Cars are everywhere and can be dangerous for kids. Public transport is affordable if you take bus or train. Public taxis are becoming more unaffordable due to surcharges and ERP.
I agree, Singapore is so walkable and you can take the train and alight anywhere and explore different neighbourhoods without issues or having to plan ahead because of the need to avoid dodgy areas. This will not be possible in many big cities around the world.
@@ViolentCabbage-ym7koCars are everywhere because it's a modern city. But not one car honks here. Where did you get the noise from?
@@TheReluctantCoder People do honk in Singapore especially in the morning and evening peak hour traffic. Some sports cars and motorcycles have loud exhaust pipes that can be heard from afar. Imagine living in mature HDB estates where cars are park openly alongside the service road and exhausts from vehicles can be heard at 2-3 am in the morning. This is a common occurrence in Singapore because land is so limited that some parking spaces are next to bedrooms.
@@ViolentCabbage-ym7ko not as much as in Taiwan or Jakarta. It seems you are using the lens of someone who’s living here. But if you have visited other countries especially during rush hour, Singapore is quiet by comparison…
Fanstistic video as always! Congratulations on 300k subscribers! 🎉 You thoroughly deserve this and more 👏 👏👏
Thank you so much, Rahul! 😊
I think you have a great talent for speaking unbelievably clearly, so I understand everything you say, even though I’m not a native English speaker. Fortunately, I found your channel, and I’m going to use it to learn to understand English by listening. Usually, I understand about 50 percent of native speakers’ speech, if not less. They usually speak very fast, drop many sounds and some of them use slang. This blog is pure gold. I’ve never heard any English native speakers speaking that clearly.
Really love your videos on Singapore. I had visited Singapore twice, I totally agree with you that the cost of lodging is so high.
Yes, I agree, i had tried myself in local Hotel here, I hope and if the Hotel/Hostal can be lower and at affordable reasonable price/rate, I believe it can attracts more tourist/oversea travelers.
Finally a western traveller that doesn’t purposely go to all the expensive restaurants and do only expensive attractions and exclaim “omg Singapore is soooo expensive 🤪🤪🤪”
You’re right. It all depends on how you plan your travel. In ever expensive city, there any many cheaper places as well. I’m telling this from my past travel experiences
That's the truth
Better bali island is the best👍
Yes, I've been to Singapore, but that was 6 years ago, and I've forgotten what I spent, but I'm sure it was double what you spent at the very least. I shared a reasonably nice hotel so even split three ways, it was a lot more than your hostel. I really enjoyed my time there and would go back in a second, if I can work it out. I'm really glad you got to do the Marina Bay Sands Observation Deck, and that you enjoyed your time there. It is one of my favourite memories of Singapore. It looked somewhat overcast when you were there. I got lucky with clear day with a spectacular sunset. On the other hand I also experienced that hardest rain storm of my life there. Great video as always.
Thank you! Yes, a clear day would have made it better but still a fantastic experience!
I appreciated your encouraging sharing and more such oversea travelers like you and her.
I didn't keep track of my spending but even without my binge shopping added to the bill I think I spent around 250 a day counting hotel. Great video Alina ❤❤❤
Congratulation for having 300k! Thanks for another useful travel vlog.
Thank you 😊
Lau Pa Sat has a long history. It was the 1st wet market downtown. Lau means old in Hokkien & Teochew dialect while Pasat is Malay for market. It’s now serve as the CDB financial district hawker center. So prices here is steeper than hawker centers in our outskirts HDB estates.
Very interesting!
Thank you for your 1st Singapore video. I am aviator and I wanted to see Singapore air show. So I spend my winterholiday there in late february (5 days). You gave good tips what to do and see. Like you said mrt is good, easy and cheap way to go aroud. I chose hotel close to a mrt stop. Thank you and have a nice stay in SE Asia. ❤ from Finland🇫🇮
Congratulations Alina for reaching 300K. You are one of the most hardworking vloggers and you truly deserve the success. Looking forward to more new exciting places from you as you travel the world. Stay safe and healthy always. Take care.🤗
Aw thank you so much ❤️
Hi Alina,
stunning impressions. The night shots and the drone shots are incredible.
Congratulations to the 300k subscribers.
Best regards, Ralf
Thanks, Ralf!
Good day dear Alina! Those expenses seem reasonable to me by and large. I myself felt spending around 160-180 US $ max on another days I was visiting Singapore this January as far as I remember. Fell in love with Singapore in 2017 and it continues this mutual romance since then ❤❤ All the best! Love your videos 💙💙
Thank you 😊
Congrats and more power to your vlogs. 300 subs and plus followers. Hi. Alina great place Singapore and thanks to showed us. Montreal fans
You should also try their thick soya sauce which is a bit sweet, and dip your Kaya bread into the soya sauce with white pepper. That’s what locals do.
Loved this video!!! It brought back memories of my visit to Singapore way back in July of 1980. It has modernized quite a bit since then. I loved the view you got from the Skypark Observation Deck. It was awesome. I can imagine it was even better in person. The prices on things you showed there seemed reasonable and good. Prices when I was there were very inexpensive. Obviously the Skypark was expensive but it is very unique. Anyway thanks for this video and good luck on your future travels.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
In Singapore, where change is the only constant (and fast-paced change at that), 1980 was a whole era ago. The whole Marina Bay Area (Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, the Singapore Flyer, etc), Changi Airport, the MRT, etc hadn’t been built yet, the Singapore River had just started its clean up and the revitalisation hadn’t begun yet.
Sounds like you need a return visit! :)
Fantastic vlog as always!
I hope I can return to Singapore.
Also, congrats for reaching 300K subs!
Here's for 3 mil! 🍻
Thank you so much 😊
I hope you can come to visit again with better positive moment and not to worry too much of cost can be avoided..
Ah, how time flies. I remember subscribing back in early 2019. I made an account specifically to join your and another youtuber's channel. Congratulations on 300k. I still don't have any stamps in my passport, but I hope I will soon. Meanwhile, I will continue to live vicariously through you, if you don't mind.
Aw thank you very much! Hope you get some stamps on the passport soon 🙂
Please visit Katong and Joochiat area. It will give you a different feel.
That’s actually showcased in my next video!
Congrats Alina for reaching the 300K subscribers milestone. 🔥
I have never been to Singapore and have always want to go. Base on your itinerary, I would have skipped the Future World and Skydeck and use the money to stay in a budget hotel room, but that is just me. 🙂
The food seems reasonably priced as compared to Toronto nowadays - I would say in Toronto now price is 2-3X more than what you show in the video.
Thanks for sharing your experience and insights with us. Safe travel.
Very good content, I loved your visuals and info were perfectly in sync. ❤🙏
Thank you!
Thank you for your time and effort in this video, I learned a lot more about Singapore in this video than your previous one. Everything is conveniently located within walking distance or at least the metro will take you where you want to go. Breakfast and lunch are reasonably priced and depends on your choices. public transportation infrastructures are top notch and the city is so so so clean everywhere you walk around. The only con is of course the housing market. it's well known around the world how expensive it's to live in this united states of multicultural island nation. Keep making future awesome videos wherever you go.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Yes, it depend on how/where wisely you choose to stay and spend your visit over here in Singapore. If you been to Bangkok city you would/will not much problems traveling here in Singapore are similar when you choose to travel and move around by Mrt trains here but cost more for modern public transportation here.
Your video is a joy to watch, it gives such a positive vibe 😊
Thank you so much 😀
i am Singaporean. thank you for showing the world that it doesn't cost thousands to have a decent time in Singapore. many blogger these days like to make exaggerated videos just to get followers.
Congratulations on hitting 300,000 subscribers!!!
Thank you so much ☺️
Congratulations on reaching 300 🎉. Excellent stuff Alina 😊
Thank you! Love your video! I am a Singapore, now living overseas, and to be honest, I cannot for the life of me, fathom WHY Singapore is THE MOST expensive cityin the world?! In Asia, most definitely. But not if I compare it to most other major cities in the world - NYC, Sydney, London, Melbourne etc.
Anyway, love the video!
Hello Alina! 😄🙏👋✨🌟 I hope your having a wonderful day! This is a fantastic super magnificent video! 😁👍❤️👏📹🇸🇬🥇💯💫✨🌟 The city of Singapore looks so truly amazing! Also the architecture of the buildings in the city, Orchard Road, the Art Science Museum and the MacRitchie Nature trail is really marvelous! The excellent view of the city from the SkyPark Observation Deck and the Gardens By the Bay light show is so absolutely beautiful! Even the food at the kiosk food courts look very delicious! I would definitely like to visit Singapore one day. It really is a wonderful city! Thank you so very much Alina to share with us this marvelous video. You are the best and greatest world traveler adventurer in the world! Congratulations on 300K Subscribers! 🙂👍👏✈️🌏📹🎉🥇🏆💯💫🌟 I wish you Alina a marvelous fantastic glorious blessed day. 😊🙏❤️👋👍💫✨🌟
Thank you, David!
I love the calm commentary. authentic
The way you are doing it Alina it is definitely reasonable and Singapore is definitely worth checking out. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!!
First of all Alina, want to congratulate you to making it to 300k☺☺ subscribers. What a milestone. Singapore is our favorite city in the world. We love it. Harriet and I have been there four times. We agree Team Labs in Toyko gives you more of a experience for longer. However the Art Science Museum in Singapore is well worth it. Our costs were more in line with yours .
Where we spent zero in accommodations were we able to stay with relatives who live there. Thank you for sharing this wonderful tour. Sending you much love ❤❤ from our current
location in Porto, Portugal where we fly back to N.Y. Harriet, Jim and Yuki
Thank you so much to you both! Really appreciate your support over the years 😊❤️ glad you love Singapore as well and fantastic that you have relatives there!
Ill be going there in acouple months. I cant wait
Welcome to Singapore! Remember to get out of downtown! There is soooo much more to Singapore than the hamster wheel most UA-camrs feature Singapore on! We are so well connected by train and buses you can literally go to all ends of Singapore!
You are welcome at any time you like.
Always wanted to visit Singapore! Thank you for this window into an awesome city :)
My pleasure and hope you visit!
@@AlinaMcleod Will do and big congrats on 300K!
Will do and big congrats on 300k subscribe Iam favorite Singapore ❤❤❤ Indian boy
You are welcome any time and do not worry too much for the cost expenses but make free and easy may be not spending too much.
A very amazing job, Alina!❤❤
Great views of the port from the observation deck. I did not realize there are so many ships and tankers in the port.
Second-busiest port in the world after Shanghai. A major reason for Singapore's wealth.
Thank you and I appreciated you for your sharing about my Singapore island here during your visit and stay, that also openly share about the amount for each place visited. As a local myself I could not/cannot afford to pay for some of those place to visit like the MBS Hotel rooftop observation Deck.
There's many budget-friendly things to do in Singapore! ❤ We always love learning good tips from you guys!
Congratulations Alina on 300k subscribers! Very interesting video. Thank you very much 💕🪻⚘️🌷
The Sky Garden at Capital Spring offers an alternative to the Sky Park Observation Deck, and would have saved you a further S$36 for the day.
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing. Congratulations 300k well deserved. Lots of love from Montreal
Congrats Alina 👏 for 300k subscribers 🎉.
Thank you 😁
An awesome Singapore series alina, really good work. I hope you did not miss the boat ride from boat quay.
$100 for one day's costs in Singapore is very reasonable indeed 👍 On arrival in Singapore though, I usually make sure that I cross the Causeway to Johor in Malaysia ASAP to bring the costs DOWN substantially 😂😂 PS : Congratulations on achieving 300k subscribers, well done 👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
Your are so good at planning trip, I respect you
There are other observation decks in the other buildings which are free.
Yes, there was/is one in Jurong hill Top and in Mount Faber too there should be.
Chilli crab? ... We always stay on Orchard Rd ... Concore Hotel , it is pretty cool up top of the Sands the viewing platform
Really enoying your Singapore videos. Will be vacationing in Singapore and Malaysia in October. Hope to follow your playbook.
I've been to Singapore many times for both work and leisure and, of course, prices have gone up a lot over the last 20 years. The hotel I stayed at was the Royal Plaza on Scotts - now US$175/night including king bed, breakfast and wifi. Prices for food, MRT, etc...are about the same as they were. There seem to be more tourist "attractions" and I wouldn't have paid $30+ to see those.
Alina, thank you for the beautiful video. Looking forward to your next video. God bless you always!
Thank you and likewise!
Thanks for sharing the good times with us..
I totally agree with what you said, teamlab is so much better in Tokyo but of course, you would expect that being their home country. Booked a visit to the new one at azubudai for my next trip, really looking forward to it!
I stayed at 30 Bencoolen Hotel in May 2019. It was less than $100 a night then. I had paid in advance to get an additional discount IIRC. Very nice hotel with breakfast included as well. Prices overall were resonable. Only alcohol was ridiculously expensive 😄
Really can't wait to go back and explore some more. You could have gone on the skywalk between the supertrees. That was pretty good as well. Can't remember the price though. And well, the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, but that would have driven up the cost 😄
That’s definitely a good deal! And yeah the skywalk is fantastic, did it the last time I was in Singapore.
Thanks for the video. Marina Bay Sands, one day you will get there. I hope that I will see your videos. God Bless.
Yes, why can we have in Canada! We are going there in the fall, thank you for the info!
Travelled and lived in many cities around the world for decades, there were cheap and expensive foods & beverages everywhere
Your balance sheet is quite economical esp. for Singapore the costliest country in the world (whereas for the neighbouring country, Malaysia, where i work, it would cost only 50% )
When I was in Singapore 3 years ago, I did not like to stay at hostel (cheap, noisy).. but I also did not like to stay at regular hotel (expensive). So, I stayed at Co-Living Hotel named "ST Signature ChinaTown"..(Small Private Cabin S Room with shared bathroom). The price aroung $50 - $75/ night). The best place to stay I got.... strategic location near Maxwell Food Centre (food court), near MRT Station, and many market around South Bridge Rd. 🙂
Yes, this ST Signature Chinatown, I had booked and tried it once before but I found it too small and expensive as a local myself but location was/is very good I agree, it seen not very safe because it self check-in and out 24/7, anyone could go in and out so easily through the main exit/entrance glass door and there was/is back door at ground floor not locked up only for go out, especially at night time.
I think that $100 in an expensive city like Singapore is a very good amount. Greetings, Imad from Egypt.🙂🙂🙂
good video to know that how to travel in Singapore
Another masterpiece from Alina. Awesome video❤. I loved your background music and at a point in time i was dancing 🕺 😀. Enjoy your stay.
Glad you liked it!
Superb video as always!
Always love yr presentations. ...nice
Liquid-like half-boiled eggs with dark (sweet) soy sauce and pepper, will be tasty enough.
To be healthy, there is no need to dip into the soft-boiled eggs that toasted bread sandwiching thick slices of butter and kaya.
U can ask for toasted bread without butter and / or kaya, n dip the toasted bread into ur coffee or tea.
In the old days, people ate toasted bread with thick slices of butter and kaya for energy, especially for physical work.
Hey Alicia, as a fan of yours, I think I think that not only you, but any/everyone out exploring the island should be focusing it on Pulao Ubin (on its northeast side). 😊 Unlike the metropolitan rest of the island, this island is a forested bit, and will give you a statement you might need you realize if you had not. 😊
Thanks for the tip!
Hawker centres are your friend, even the food court at bottom of marina bay sands will not break the bank. MRT is the way to go. Was there a couple weeks ago on way home to NZ from Europe.
Singapore isn't too expensive if you eat hawker food only, stay in budget hotels, shop at the cheapest places, etc.
That's right. But it's very expensive if you want to stay in 4 star and above hotels, dine in restaurants and take taxi.
Singapore can be pretty affordable by visiting the heartlands, away from the usual tourist spots. And you can get even tastier food at the more local places. Plus there are many different malls and places for activities as well.
Try Jurong East Interchange(3 malls), Tampines Station (3 malls), Punggol Mall with nice coastal view and great parks....
Yes, I fully agree with you, come to my regional in Jurong East here.
Another great one from Matt Large's biggest fan!
Congratulations on reaching 300k subs!
Thank you so much ☺️
Your video is making me miss Singapore a lot!! Thank you for sharing, Singapore is one of my fave cities to visit, so easy to get around and you can have an inexpensive day if you wish. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your Singapore adventure.
Thank you 😊
You really have made a very useful and interesting clog.
You most likely have caught the Light show during the June school holidays. During the school holidays there will be more kid/ family orientated events happening all over SG
I recently went to Singapore in May, and I was lucky to find a hotel near Clarke Quay (Ibis Budget) for $180 CAD/night, which included two beds and it is 5 min to the MRT station.
That’s pretty good!
The GBTB light show changes depending on the theme. It’s not always a fixed show.
Nice vid!
I agree with you. The Disney show at Gardens was a poor one. It was a tie-in with the newly released Disney movie at that time. Thankfully, normal service has resumed with regards to the light show.
We use S$ or SGD to refer to the local currency SG or SGP is the short for, for the name of the country so we might (very rarely) use $1 SG. Seeing the acronym for Saigon SGN every so often in the video was a bit jarring.
Come back again for more.
4 places for the nature lovers:
MacRitchie Reservoir
Bukit Timah Hill
Henderson Waves
Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve
add a dash of pepper and soya sauce to your half boiled eggs to elevate the experience. Enjoy!
Hello Alina! What a beautiful country ❤️
There's actually tons of musuems in singapore and some of them are free! A lot of Students do visit them as a form of National Education Tour
thanx Alina for your video that is wandrfull about singapore i wish see you soon in egypt my name is emad big Great greetings from Egypt🥰🥰😃🥰🥰
I think every tourists should learn from Alina Mcleod. She show us how to live on US$100 a day in Singapore. It is possible.
Fantastic video. Thanks for sharing. 👍
nice recorrido en Singapur nice gente, clima , restaurante, comida, rio, bonita panoramica de la ciudad y te miras bonita! con tu camisa ❤
I'm a Singaporean and didn't know about sky deck and never watched the free light show at gardens by the bay 😂 Now your video motivates me to be a tourist in my own country. 😊
You visited Singapore again. Definitely expensive though it's worth of visiting. It's on my list too.
You are welcome any time you like.
Have you tried Char Quay Teow, Oyster Omelette, Mee Rebus, Fried Carrot Cake, Hokkien Mee, etc …. ?
Alina, regarding your tour of the night light up sky park, l think it was Singapore children school holidays, for the whole month of June. There was a sign that said Children Festival, n....that why the Disney music.
Maybe after the school vacation is over, the music might be back to the original which you prefer.
They probably change the music according to the occasion. Jfyi.
I hope they do!
Love your presentation,thank you Alina
The Pinnacle Skybridge Singapore, located at the Pinnacle@Duxton, a 50-story public housing development cost about SGD$6
I love the price for the hostel🤩🤩
Nice one Alina. Pls plan to Visit Brunei as well. Its only 2 hours flight from Singapore. I will be your host. I am also a Travel Vloger. Learning from your vlogs.
Singapore 🇸🇬 Hawker food centers are cheap? affordable and very tasty, too.
Hola 👋🏼👋🏼
I'm eating my taco egg breakfast here in Veracruz Xalapa, as I watch you eat your breakfast. 😂
Cheers from 2 Canadians 🇨🇦 living in Mexico. 🇲🇽 ✌🏼 🥰
You should have eaten the eggs first, before the toast, before they get cold. Just slurp it down straight from the bowl or deep saucer. Just add a bit of pepper and soy sauce.
Hope you come back again to Singapore. Go for affordable in public transport and food hawker centres and food courts around the island. Go anywhere around safely to explore no worries
Food & Beverage Prices @ Hawker Centers, Coffee Shops, Food Courts, Chinese Restaurants, Japanese Restaurants or Western Restaurants are affordable. It's all depended on your budget and your willingness to spend, from Michelin Star Hawker Foods to Restaurant Foods. Hawker Centers and Coffee Shops also provide a variety of Arabs, Bangladeshi, Chinese, European, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Korean, Malays, Malaysian, Myanmar, Philippine, Thai, Vietnamese or Western Foods cheaply from US$3 - US$15 per meal, depending on your budget and your willingness to spend to eat.
U should also visit Portugal 🇵🇹 Lisbon 😀
If you ever in Sg again get down to Tanamera ferry terminal and take a boat to Batam island indonesia. Its a 45 min trip costs about 55 sgd. Singaporeans go over there for cheap food and resorts. Check it out❤
Thanks for the tip!
