These people sitting on the floor are most probably overseas foreign workers either from Philippines or other East Asian countries. They usually gathered together with friends on their day off, have meal together and sometimes sing karaoke together.

Lau Pa Sat is not a typical hawker centre, prices are on the steep side as it caters more to tourists and the CBD officer workers on weekdays. Try those in Chinatown or one of those satellite towns in the suburbs like Toa Payoh, Tiong Bahru, Bugis area Albert Complex etc.

Within 5 mins, there are three large hawker centres in Chinatown: Hong Lim, People's Park and Chinatown. You have over 900 places to eat, almost all Chinese food (Chinatown, duh).

I feel you can explore outside central Singapore. For example, if you want to go industrial area, you can go to Tuas via the MRT to see all our factories etc. Jurong East/Tampines is another good place with tons of shopping. Sungei Buloh or Bukit Timah Hill (mini hike) or the various nature reserve in Singapore to see nature. The zoos/bird park at Mandai (can be a bit expensive if you guys dun mind). Moreover, there is coast to coast trail/round island route that allows you to walk the whole of Singapore which usually can span a whole day.
For your info, the transport is calculated by distance with a max cap of $3 so definitely affordable.

If you live in HDB flat (not private condo), don’t own a car, don’t eat out in restaurants regularly but hawker centres or food courts, don’t drink at bars on regular basis, don’t get children into various training classes, as a middle income professional couple in Singapore, living expenses are manageable. Whether you have enough money for retirement, I am not sure because it depends on your overall lifestyle.

Hi. For the half-boiled eggs, it is bland because you guys did not put in the second bottle of soya sauce which is salty & umami packed (More transparent & liquidy in texture). Pepper also adds dimension to the taste. Will highly recommend you guys re-try with both types of soya sauces & pepper. Remember that the more transparent sauce is really salty, so put in a bit first, and add more if needed 😉

Singapore has a wide variety of food choices, those food courts without air conditioning are quite affordable. The ones inside shopping malls are not necessarily cleaner; I once bought a bowl of laksa noodle soup at a mall's food court, and there's a small cockroach inside! The Indian clerk refused to give me a refund! Very unpleasant experience.
Having said that, the Indian-style curry and flat bread are some of my favorite foods!
If you plan to live in Singapore long term, the housing cost is high, especially if you buy a property. Cars are the most expensive in the world, but fortunately you don't really need one because they have good public transportation.

Half/soft boiled eggs are eaten with soy sauce and pepper. It's the local's english version of soft boiled eggs with salt and pepper. Wonder why would the guy talked about having it with salt or vinegar. Kaya is the local twist of the western custard or curd. The Hainanese were the last chinese ethic group to arrive from China to to this part of the world. Hence they didn't have much labour choices. Most ended up as cooks in the English kitchen. The kaya toast and eggs is one of the local breakfast influenced by the British.

But if you go to Orchard Road, that's where you'll see most of the cars at. Crowded. Also 11:14 that area Bugis is known as the Art District. Hence, the art mural. @@sunkissedbucketlist lol that's because locals recognise locals. Locals will gather in homes and eateries. They are domestic helpers and/or foreign labourers gathering outside as they do not have their own private place or home. Domestic helpers in Singapore are from Indonesia/Philippines/Myanmar/Vietnam. You will see the same thing in Hong Kong during weekends. Where tons of domestic helpers gather along a bridge with their mats and "picnic".

@@sunkissedbucketlist Locals rather picnic/barbeque at the beach, not smack right in the middle of the city centre. If they want to do karaoke, they can do it in airconditioned rooms at the many community clubs in the housing estates. The housing estates in Singapore are well equipped with facilities which make them so self-contained that many Singaporeans do not need to head to the city centre on weekends which explains why traffic is rather light on the streets there.

toast dipped in eggs, sounds wrong..... hmmmm hmmmmm mmmmm have u heard of French toast???
also in UK, iw as introduced to soft boiled eggs that came in those little egg holder cups that u eat the egg from
sometimes things aren't so unusual or foreign but appear so much more so just because you're in a foreign environment

You don't eat French toast immediately after dipping it in runny egg; it needs to be cooked first.
Just because “some” people in the UK enjoy it doesn't mean everyone will automatically love it, even if it's considered a British tradition.
Let's be open to differing opinions and accept that not everyone will share the same tastes, foreign environment or otherwise.
