Humana v ECO Prof. There is nothing stopping ECO Prof from finding other people that share his values and pooling their voices to create political influence. There is no legitimate reason to disagree with CU. Its an easy case.
The spirit of the law is to promote free speech. In practice, it allows special interests to buy influence. This results politicians doing the bidding of their largest donors regardless of whether or not it's in the best interest of their constituency.
@ryanmullaney9791 And? People always seem to miss the fact that special interest groups ARE people. If you agree with what the SIG is doing, then they are good. If you don't, then they are bad. The special interest group IS a part of their constituency either way. The SIG represents voters' interest. You may think the NRA is a corrupt influence, but another person believes they are fighting the good fight for 2a rights. When a politician aligns himself with the NRA, that's a choice he or she makes. "Ambition must be made to counteract ambition." There are always two sides to an issue, and competing SIGs must be allowed to lobby for their position. To tell the truth, a more elegant solution would be if the government had no control over the results. Then, nobody would feel compelled to lobby in the first place.
