I'm not a mariners fan but I'm a fan of any team that plays the Yankees and Ken Griffey Jr said it best when he said that if he was ever traded to the Yankees he'd retire. When he hit his number 500 home run in Saint Louis he said the ovation he received was amazing. He also said that when he hit number 500 he wouldn't have wanted any different unless it was in Seattle and that is totally respectful.
You do that. I will stick wtih the Yankees. We have suffered a lot. But we still have 27 titles. We should have many more. However, that's how it goes in baseball. You can't win them all.
Jesus! Cried twice watching this. Was a 12 year old boy who played and was into baseball like no other, was my life. Pops had season tickets and we would go to every game we could. Video brought back a lot of great memories with Dad losing our voices, never felt joy like I did witnessing that season!
1995 AL West Champions. Miss the memories of the Mariners. Macklemore did a music video of "My Oh My" to honor Dave Neihaus. Plus Hall Of Fame Fireworks at Safeco Field with Dave himself (on Mariners Vision). Dan Wilson, Randy Johnson, Jay Buhner AKA Bone, Joey Cora, Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, Luis Sojo, Mike Blowers (now broadcaster). Man, I was there on all of the games (except road games) from regular season to the postseason (I was a season ticket holder from 1991 to today). I was 8 since I start, now I'm 14 (23 in Sonic years) and I still go to the Mariners. Plus, I went to Mariners FanFest since 2009. I love the Mariners so much, that I want to be with them. Sorry that I took your time. R.I.P. Dave Neihaus "My Oh My"
A lot of M’s players on this team spent some time playing with their AAA affiliate here with the Calgary Cannons of the PCL. Great to see Tino, Edgar and Jay go to the postseason.
I was only 9 years old during the '95 season. I remember them wheeling the TV into our classrooms so we could watch the playoffs. My parents even took me to a few games during the end of the season. I have never been so enthralled by a game since. A dynamic line-up, a STELLAR Dave Niehaus and the Dome...man what a time. I remember the way SoDo used to be a party zone after every win. Shouting, horns honking. Baseball will never be this exciting again.
I've been a Mariners fan since 2nd grade. I was in 6th grade in 1995 and even as a kid Dave Niehaus gave me chills. Refuse to Lose! We will get there one day M's!
Man, I miss Dave Niehaus. He seemed like a truly authentic fan, as much as anything else. There was so much passion in his commentating; he really made a game a joy to watch.
I can watch this video over and over and still cheer and whoop and holler like I did when I watched it live 17 years ago. I was only 10 and a Mariner fan since The Kid arrived in the league. My Oh My!
I was 3 when this happened so I didn't see any of this live or if I did I certainly don't remember it but the video of "The Double" gives me chills. Every. Single. Time.
Griffey at his best...he was a force of nature throughout this series, not only at the plate but on the base paths as well - especially on "the double." I was sitting in right field (would've caught Cora's homer had it been a little higher) and remember thinking "OK, it's tied up" when Edgar made contact...then I looked over and saw Jr. literally flying around third and knew the game was over. Sigh. What a ride. Awesome to hear Dave narrating this video. RIP Dave...and Eagle hardware too
Man sports made such an impact when we were little, dont care how old we get, names like Moyer, Johnson, Griffey, Rodriguez, Buhner, Martinez, Olerud will never leave
That was a great moment. I remember watching this game in Germany. But that was the year nobody in the American League could stop the Cleveland Indians!! But that was great game by the Ms
i wasnt even alive but i grew up hearing about this story and my family is mariners fans so it brings a tear to my eye every time i think of it or watch it
ah... my childhood. I miss all these names, I miss the kingdom, i DEFINITELY miss the M's being good, but most of all I just miss going to these games with my dad and cheering for Griffey, the Big Unit, the Sheriff Norm Charlton, A-Rod, Tino and Edgar Martinez, Jay "The Bone" Buhner, Joey Cora, and seeing Lou Pinella lose it after a bad call... I miss the M's of the late 90s.
95... I married my wife, bought my first home, was called back to my employer after a 2 year layoff to remain employed to this day and Dave calling the entire end of regular season with the first playoff appearance. Damn that was a good year.
Tino Martinzez, Mike Blowers, Norm Charlton (he had an amazing '95 season for the M's), Jeff Nelson, Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey, Jr., Alex Rodriguez (I know he didn't really play), Jay Buhner, and a great manager: Lou Piniella. I can't believe with all of this talent, they weren't a dynasty. Maybe they were just one SP away from being unstopable. Without question - the best MLB post season roster that NEVER won the world series.
I'd say more like two SPs away from a dynasty. Until we traded him away, Randy was all we had as far as solid pitching. So of course we werent actually going to make the WS with a weak pen.
Our greatest moment is winning the most games in a season by any team ever...baseball isn't all about the world series...this season had huge weight to it which is why it is so special to us.
As an eight year old at the time, this secured my love of many things: the M's, Edgar, Dave, Big Unit, I could go on. I'll never forget jumping up and down and losing control when Jr. slid home.
Lined down the left field line for a base hit. Here comes Joey, here is Junior to third base, they're gonna waive him in! The throw to the plate will be LATE! AND THE MARINERS ARE GOING TO PLAY FOR THE AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP! I DON'T BELIEVE IT, IT JUST CONTINUES! MY, OH, MY!!!! -Greatest call in sports history. Miss ya every game Dave.
@Killer0fTheSun Dave Niehaus, the Mariners announcer since they started in 1977, passed away in November 2010. They had a memorial service at Safeco, and his call of "The Double" was played on the big screen. It was like it was happening all over again. Regardless of who you root for, there are some calls that will live forever, and that's one of them. :-)
I'm a Red Sox fan, so I always love seeing the Yankees lose, but this was a great video and a great series! I really smiled at the end! It's always nice to come back, but against the Yankees it's even better :)
that's just it. We're dedicated to our team. I GUARANTEE that if the Yankees had some of the seasons the M's have had in the past 10 years, the only fans that would be in the stands at Yankee games would be the players' family members. The New York fanbase is only loyal when their team is winning. Dedication to your team shows when you stay by the team even when they lose.
What a fuckin' season! I was in Pullman going to school, but we could feel the electricity over the Cascades! I remember hearing car horns with every big play!!!
BRAVES!!! MVP Tom Glavine 1 hit wonder and David Justice homer to win. Ask me but it didn't matter if the M's made it. The Braves would have shut them all down. But that M's team should have made it, they had the talent.
I agree with you 100 percent bro. Ken Griffey Jr. is the greatest baseball player of all time in my opinion. without Griffey they never would've made it as far as they did. Too bad seattle blew it in the AL championship against the Indians, but Griffey never got a ring. I feel so sorry for him. :(
I remember the Yankee series so much, I was working restaurant work in Kent at the time and we had the radio on in the kitchen for every game
12 років тому
Swung on and BELTED!!!! God Niehaus was the best. Alex Rodriguez and the rest laying on top of an absolutely giddy Ken Griffey Jr is an image and a moment that will stick with me forever.
We were 14 games out to start August, won the playoff entry game in dramatic fashion, came from behind MULTIPLES TIMES to beat the Yankees, our late hall of fame announcer is the one on the call, and we had 4 or 5 future Hall of Famers on this team. Please, go and see how many golf balls you can fit into your mouth without choking on one
Mariano DID come into this game. I believe after Cone walked in the tying run in the 8th, Mariano came in and shut down the M's that inning and the next few. Good thing the Yanks didn't know Mariano was Mariano at that time. Then again, the way things were going, this thing probably wouldn't have made it into extra innings if Mariano didn't come into the game when he did.
Tino Martinez. Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, Alex Rodriguez. They all wanted out. They all got it. Only Edgar Martinez stayed. He is celebrated to ths day. Ichiro came along later. He too stayed as long as he could. Two true M's.
Agreed. Or if Bonds would have simply just not cheated, Griffey would have also likely won. Many people consider Griffey the best hitter during that era due to all the steroid use. Griffey, Frank Thomas, and Jim Thome are 3 of a I believe about 10 of the major power players during this time that have never been implicated in any type of steroid controversy. Those guys are true legends. I do admire Bonds as well, what he accomplished is not void but unfortunately he made mistakes, we all have.
Seriously brings a tear to my eye - what an amazing time for the Mariners!
And then Came the Indians
The fact the mariners didn’t win in 95 and 01 is a shame. Those were such special seasons just to end in heartbreak
"GET OUT THE RYE BREAD AND THE MUSTARD THIS TIME GRANDMA! IT IS A GRAAAAND SAAALAMI!"
the art of calling a baseball game. PHENOMENAL.
The most amazing last two months of a baseball season ever. What a joy watching Jr. and the rest never give up.
holy hell thats me waving the flag at 10:16 omg that brings back memories. i still have that flag
What a privilege to be there! Great memories for life.
That is actually cool, to be there at such an iconic game that saved baseball in the Pacific Northwest.
I'm a Tigers fan and I love this call. Much respect to Dave and his legacy.
Omg I remember watching this as a kid, since this season I became a Mariner fan for life
I'd watch a losing team for the rest of my life than root for the Yankee's even one season.
Mantis X thank you

I wept myself. A championship that got away from the Yankees.
1995 AL West Champions. Miss the memories of the Mariners. Macklemore did a music video of "My Oh My" to honor Dave Neihaus. 16 rows behind the 3rd base dugout. I was there for every game in the old dome. It was a magic carpet ride all the way. Thanks for posting this!
this video always makes me teary eyed

Man, I miss Dave Niehaus. He seemed like a truly authentic fan, as much as anything else. There was so much passion in his commentating; he really made a game a joy to watch.
Yeah, he was a real goofball. A cross between Charlie Chaplin and Charlie Sheen.
It was such an amazing time to live in Seattle...well I lived in Renton at the time but still
I can watch this video over and over and still cheer and whoop and holler like I did when I watched it live 17 years ago. I was only 10 and a Mariner fan since The Kid arrived in the league. My Oh My!
This was the play, and the series I remember most. Not only was it a win for the Mariners, but it saved baseball in thr Pacific Northwest.
Edgar martinez to hall of fame NOW!!!!!
It’s absolutely crazy that it took so long. That man was a phenom.
His numbers again Mariano Rivera alone
I'll never get tired of watching this
Griffey, Edgar, Tino, Arod, Buhner, Unit holy cow this team was loaded
I was 3 when this happened so I didn't see any of this live or if I did I certainly don't remember it but the video of "The Double" gives me chills. Every. Single. Time.

LOL. Niehaus always sounds like he's having an absolute FIT!!!! best ever!
Im a Yankees' fan, but this was by far, the best postseason series ever!
he IS the best commentator. because there never will be another like him
Thank you for posting this. I don't care how many times I see "The Double," I will always get goosebumps
That was a great moment. I remember watching this game in Germany. But that was the year nobody in the American League could stop the Cleveland Indians!! But that was great game by the Ms
Yeah, it was nice to go up 2-1 on them, but they were 21 games better and had the experienced rotation. Only the Braves could have beaten them.
best 6 weeks of baseball in my life. what a RIDE! thank you to every member of that team! from the bottom of my 16 year old heart.....back then lol...
Anybody here in 2021 watching this, getting hyped up? Seattle tied for the WC with Boston as of today!
How can anyone not love this group of guys? What an awesome team.
i wasnt even alive but i grew up hearing about this story and my family is mariners fans so it brings a tear to my eye every time i think of it or watch it
Edger,A-ROD,Griffey,Johnson
Dream member
Joey Cora was easily the most underrated player on that team. He did ANYTHING to get the job done.
my god man Griffey really deserved a ring. :( GOAT!
Edgar=underrated
HE SHOULD BE IN THE HOF! Greatest moment in Seattle sports history!
I still get goosebumps 18 years later.
ah... my childhood. I miss the M's of the late 90s.
I wanna go back to this time. The last great decade.
My eyes were tearing too. I'm from Kansas City and even though Denny Matthews has been there forever, he doesn't hold a candle next to Niehaus.
God I love it. Cant wait til they get back to this level next year
You couldnt write a better script, Edgar hitting and Griffey scoring....Goosbumps.
This is probably the best divisional round series I ever saw. Pure excitement.
95... I married my wife, bought my first home, was called back to my employer after a 2 year layoff to remain employed to this day and Dave calling the entire end of regular season with the first playoff appearance. Damn that was a good year.
Refuse 2 Lose M's is one of my greatest sports memories. 😭
Watching those highlights just now still brought a tear to my eye...
I was at that Mariners Angels 1 game playoff game- greatest baseball game ive been too
Tino Martinzez, Mike Blowers, Norm Charlton (he had an amazing '95 season for the M's), Jeff Nelson, Edgar Martinez, Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey, Jr., Alex Rodriguez (I know he didn't really play), Jay Buhner, and a great manager: Lou Piniella.

10:58 Just beautiful. RIP Dave Niehaus
Our greatest moment is winning the most games in a season by any team ever...baseball isn't all about the world series...this season had huge weight to it which is why it is so special to us.
19Noodle no championship no glory.
19Noodle it wasn't the most by any team ever. The 1906 Cubs did it with 10 less games than the Mariners.
i can not watch this video without tearing up. go mariners, RIP Dave
I'm not even a Mariners fan and I still get chills when I listen to Macklemore's My Oh My. Such good feels.
Edgarrrrrrr was a great hitter and that Mariners team was stacked! I've never seen so many mouths open at the same time in all when Edgar
Hit the Grand slam
As an eight year old at the time, this secured my love of many things: the M's, Edgar, Dave, Big Unit, I could go on. I'll never forget jumping up and down and losing control when Jr. slid home.
"Randy looks to the skies!... that is covered by the dome!"
Lol. Who would have thought you’d get and lol from me 9 years later. I hope you see this.

@crazybluedevil4 Same here and I still get teary eyed watching the replays. Baseball will never be the same again.
I was at a game when we played Oakland that year. What a nail biter. So many home runs
Best video on youtube.
Great video. Gave me some chills.
6'3", 235lb adult who cried when this season unfolded! EVERYONE had this on their stereos on the way home from work each step of the way! Was amazing!
I love these kinds of videos.
0:43 As an announcer, you probably only get one or two chances to make a truly great call in a greta moment...congrats Rick Rizzs. Nice job.
that's just it. We're dedicated to our team. I was at the dome for the Angels game as well as game 4 and game 5. Honestly, they were the greatest moments of my life
Im a baseballer my self and that commentey is just so inspiracenal
That was a fun comeback season and a heck of a nail-biter in the divisional playoff.
I remember the Yankee series so much, I was working restaurant work in Kent at the time and we had the radio on in the kitchen for every game
Swung on and BELTED!!!! God Niehaus was the best. Alex Rodriguez and the rest laying on top of an absolutely giddy Ken Griffey Jr is an image and a moment that will stick with me forever.
Thx for making it digital
amazing how we had the two greatest mariners at the same time, long live Edgar and Griffey!
How did this not make ESPN's top 10 best calls of all-time?
We were 14 games out to start August, won the playoff entry game in dramatic fashion, came from behind MULTIPLES TIMES to beat the Yankees, our late hall of fame announcer is the one on the call, and we had 4 or 5 future Hall of Famers on this team. Please, go and see how many golf balls you can fit into your mouth without choking on one
One of the greatest series of all-time
I was thinking the same thing the other day. That top 10 is invalid without this on it. Dave Niehaus was the best commentator in MLB history.
Great video!

fantastic video man, i remember this year, griffey is the best
Best Playoff series in history of MLB
11:02 *Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - My Oh My*
Damn this made me tear up....
Didn't bones stay?
this team was so great
Watched it live, at 13 years old with my dad and best friend. We all lost our collective "shit" when The Double happened.
This seems so much more different than mariners now. It seems like we roll over and die in tough situations now.
Thank You Griffey
man Edgar and Griffey were monsters in 95
OMG I enjoyed every minute of this video. Where did u find it?
Agreed. Or if Bonds would have simply just not cheated, Griffey would have also likely won. Many people consider Griffey the best hitter during that era due to all the steroid use.
