I was literally crushed on the day they announced he died. Dave Niehaus was simply put the greatest announcer in the history of the game. He brought so much joy to all the listeners in greater Seattle-Tacoma. It's just like losing a family member cause he was always in your living room, your car, wherever when listening. RIP Dave and Thank You!
If the M's make it and Win it all, it should be for Dave Niehaus. Listening to his disappointment all those years the M's failed told me just how much his heart was into it. Absolutely Love that Man. Rick Rizz too. If it was up to me, Rick Rizz would do the simulcast for TV and radio. Not a big fan of Sims.
@@blackmamba1261 Yeah, it was a shame to win 116 games in 2001 and fall 2 games short of reaching the World Series. I hope the Mariners, if they do win a World Series, that it's on their 1st try and it's a sweep.
I can only imagine Dave Niehaus will be smiling from ear to ear in heaven when the Mariners finally win there first world series R.I.P to one of the greatest commentators to ever live mariner and baseball fans alike will never forget you and your love for the game
I just hope that if they do win it, that it's on the 1st try and it's a sweep. That way, they can claim to have won every World Series game they played.
Listening to this put a smile on my face. When I was a child, I used to listen to Mariners games on my clock radio and I would fall asleep to the voices of Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizzs. Niehaus is an icon, a legend, THE BEST!!!
One of the only times I've seen my dad cry was the memorial tribute at spring training the year that Dave passed away. 75 year old war veteran, retired cop, hard as woodpecker lips. Shows you the impact that Dave had. Rest in peace, sir.
Can't watch this without shedding a few tears. Some of the best calls in sports history. A World Series would be amazing but they have an long line of amazing moments.
@Harry Engel Segura, Cano, Cruz, Paxton and Diaz and a couple of others like Zunino and Herrmann were all winning games for the M's. What does Dipoto do? *TRADE THEM!!!!!* No team can expect to fill seats while sending top talent elsewhere. Don't even get me started about the two stupid trades this season of two of their most productive hitters, setting home run milestones as M's. (Incarnación and Bruce)
@Harry Engel Sadly, that's exactly what he trying to do. This attitude of playing to win by playing to lose is very disturbing. The M's, Reds, and at least two other teams are on track for greater than 100 losses. Just because the Astros were successful in doing so doesn't guarantee any other team will, and you still need to have good players to sell tickets to pay for those alleged cheaper players. down the road. Dipoto was giving money in addition to those big name players traded, too, which makes no fiscal sense whatsoever.
Me too, the amount of raw emotion Niehaus brings across and the joy of the players celebrating just gets me. Love commentators like Niehaus and our Buck Martinez!
The Double. Yes, Dave. That was easily #1. I was there, and it was magic. Absolute magic. As we were all losing our minds, celebrating the historic victory we just watched, it was as if there was a slight pause from a large portion of the crowd. Then, the spotlight shone on the broadcast booth. I, along with thousands and thousands, erupted with every bit of volume and energy I had!! I think the resulting eruption was nearly as loud as when Griffey crossed the plate. It was later, that I heard the call. My God. That was incredible. I was floored. And even all these years later, and after hearing it many times, I still get chills and moist eyes, when I hear “…I DON’T BELIEVE IT!!”. Because that is exactly what I was yelling. In the Centerfield bleachers…. Thank you Dave. Rest In Peace.
@@elouise5593 Guessing this person was talking about when Edgar Martinez and Tino Martinez both played for us. But they weren't brothers and they weren't related.
I think I've seen this 3 times over the past few years and every time I have to fight back tears. Hearing Dave on the call during such iconic moments in Mariners history really stirs up the emotions. What a day it will be when the Mariners break the slump and get back to the playoffs. What a day it will be when they finally finish what they started in 2001 and bring home a World Series title.
what a baseball voice. just legendary. just miss him calling games. couldn't ask for anyone better to fill in dave's shoes with rick rizz. cause rizz will be legendary himself. M's may not have been to WS but M's are blessed with 2 legendary announcers calling the games.

From a Mets fan to Mariners fans, few announcers hold a special place in my heart next to the Mets booth (Gary, Keith & Ron, and of course the great Ralph Kiner) the way Dave Niehaus does. "MY OH MY!" just an amazingly effective and passionate announcer. More booths today should have guys like Niehaus.
I was at the AL West Tie breaker game against the Angels #4, kept the historic ticket stub and got it signed by Ken Griffey, Dan Wilson and Joey Cora at spring training the following year. Still remember the vibes like it was yesterday. Dave Niehaus will always be a legend!
I was a big Mariners fan from about 96 to 2003. This man loved baseball and I know he loved Mariners. Some guy I can hear its just a job to them. He was a fan of the team. One of the all-time greats.
I was too young before 96 and during high school I started watching NBA more. Plus after they won 116 games and didn't beat the Yankees I gave up. I figured they would never win it if they couldn't do it that year.
Dave Niehaus and Rick Rizz, I owe these guys for there great descriptions that made me absolutely Love this game where before I hated it. In the Tri-Cities back in the 80s we only had the M's on the radio but I always found a way to listen. Baseball is a great radio sport!

Kudos to the Mariners new Dave, Dave Sims another amazing broadcaster that I love listening to.
The Double was great, fantastic, all the wheels in motion. Probably the biggest Yankee breaker was Edgar hitting the Grand Salami, after his 3-run home run earlier. M's traded Randy, some folks said he was beyond his prime. Niehaus never said that. Randy goes on to win 3 Cy Young awards, WS MVP, and a perfect game with Arizona. Junior leaves, A-Rod leaves, Ichiro leaves. No wonder they never made the WS. Still, great memories. So many games listened to in my car traveling across Montana and Idaho.
I can imagine Dave calling Cal’s home run and Mariners’ playoff clinch in heaven: There’s a drive, deep down right field by the foul pole, THE MARINERS ARE ON THEIR WAY TO THE 2022 POSTSEASON, A BEAUTIFUL HOME RUN BY CAL RALEIGH. THE MARINERS END THE 21 YEAR DROUGHT, MY OH MY!!
