I had no idea that the actual process itself has a spiritual meaning in every single detail. And I'm absolutely stunned by it. This, to me, is the highest art form to be made.
I found this video very interesting for many reasons. First it connect the iconographers life to the process of painting and life's ways. Secondly, it shows details for other aspects of how it is completed. Third is very relaxing and connects us to what god is trying to teach us all. Thank you. I have been inspired to start a new icon!

And if there´s a problem for mr.Pavlos that Andreyev was a book illustrator before he started writing icons, so Petter was a fisher before he was called for being apostle - just mention it.

well, there are many knowledgeable priests sharing the same theology. To some people it's inconvenient, as it goes deeper than simple obedience and goodness, and broadens their way of looking at things. And, as for historic iconography, I don't believe it has existed in Russia for the last four centuries, especially for good 70 years of the Soviet era. Nevertheless, mr. Andreyev studied what was left from the old tradition, directly from the people who were living at that time.

Everything in the video is good, up until the point that it mentions uncreated light. An Orthodox novelty, other than that awesome! I wish I could have been artist or have that skill to be able to do such fine liturgical icons. The author is very skilled in all the details, explains very well and shows in only 22 minutes the whole concept for the beginner.
God dwells in men and women, not in wood. And the practice of intentional prayer can take place while washing dishes, raking leaves, or helping the poor. Don't be confused by the music and beautiful art work. Even artistic beauty has its limits.
People must ignore all those things that destruct them from their own personal way of expression in the Holy Spirit form God,. As to those icons I think it is good to start with white , gold or other colors like blue for the background, underneath, and then cover it up to see the results, and make the flesh more natural and lighter too, otherwise the ark seems wasted they look too dark in shade not good enough to the eye, erase that crap and make it the other way to glow lighter !
There is a major problem with this all - none of it is taught in Orthodoxy. Most of this "theology" is made up by Andreyev. Talk to any knowledgeable priest about this, and he will tell you that this mysticism is borderline heretical. Also, if you compare the icons of Andreyev to the historical Russian icons, you will find almost nothing in common - not in the lines, not in the colors. Andreyev was a book illustrator before he came to the US; he actually never studied historic iconography.
