    BEST paper ever! I'm doing a colored pencil portrait and the pencil sticks so well to this paper that I was able to achieve a smooth, painterly-looking background with just one layer of colored pencil and OMS whereas it would normally take me several layers even for a simple background. Using OMS is really out of my comfort zone because I usually burnish, but this paper is so thick and "sandy" that it really takes the OMS well.
    Alyona Nickelsen is such a lifesaver for colored pencil artists.

    Your Hawk is awesome, you did a wonderful job on his eyes. He is gorgeous. It's pretty cool that you are training your dog to ring the bell when he has to go outside. That is so adorable.

    Awesome video. I have decided that I will probably not further explore colored pencils. too much investment in pencils, paper, and accessories (powdered blender, fixative etc) seems to be required, but I learned a lot about rendering, use of color and compostion for other media. I am rediscovering water color at the moment (yes, Inktense is involved) and I'll also be using up my canvases wit acrylic paints for a while. ♥ the bit at the end with Gibson

      All of these tools are just options. There are SO many ways you can happily use colored pencils, you don't need to use them all :) Watercolor is awesome too so I can totally see the appeal for you there!

      Renae Bettenhausen oh no, don’t think that. Colored pencils was the first art supplies I got into and love them. All you need is colored pencils, and a sketchbook. You can layer and make beautiful smooth blends with just the pencils themselves. That’s all you need to make art, and good art, everything else is optional.

      Yes agree but the paper is wonderful with watercolor……so far. I tried my first watercolor on this paper last night and finished the main image in 3 hours. I have a fortune in colored pencils that I intend to try to use up and probably not replace. My true lov is oils, acrylics and water colors. Al onlookers inks also.

    Ms. Lachri, please consider in the future a demo video of this LuxArchival paper being used for watercolors and/or alcohol inks. I just did a watercolor Christmas card of a li Tyler girl but had some difficulties with skin tone. Thank you.

    I enjoyed the demo! The hawk looks great too. I'll look into some of these better color pencils. I'll likely graduate into a small oil-based set (to move beyond the wax ones I have). The sanded paper sounds great.

    Hi Lisa,
    This looks like the surface I want! Could you please also do a quick video of how OMS goes with this surface? And does the final painting have a bit of smearing, as pastels do?
    Thanks! You're brilliant!

    I think this would be great for me, I love coloured pencils but I could never use them traditionally - my body and health won't tolerate it. I did get a solvent but I'd definitely use sanded paper. Might even try a gesso'd surface too first.

    I just started with these products and I don’t know what I am doing wrong. My background turns out blotchy. I have all the brush and pencil products and I’m using polychromos and it’s not coming out as smooth as I’m seeing other people do it. Any recommendations?

    I received a sample of the LuxArchival and though I'm not a fan of heavily sanded paper (working with pastels), I'm curious to try this paper because of your video! What are some of the other oil based colored pencils? I know the wax based to stabilize on the paper. I wasn't too successful with the powder blender, but maybe it was the paper and the wax pencils. Thank you!

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  4 роки тому

    That’s really nice how the powder smooths the pencils out! If I may ask a question about the spray texture fixative you’re using? Are you spraying it inside, or is it toxic like other spray fixatives? Also, do you know it it works with pastels? I’m very intimidated by spray fixatives. This is such a gorgeous picture by the way!

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  4 роки тому +2

      Yes, I'm spraying it indoors. It's similar to spraying hair spray. You can smell it but it doesn't smother you like other fixatives or varnishes. It is not ideal for pastels, there are better sprays for those. :)

    I had absolutely no luck with gessoed paper for the powder blender. Not sure if it was my gesso, paper or technique but nothing blended.

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  4 роки тому

      I airbrushed 2 or 3 coats with the gesso to get it to the point I liked working on it. It's just so much work that I'm generally not willing to do. I just want to grab my paper and get started with the pencils lol.

    Hello Lisa, I hope you are well. Happy Holidays! Ok ..these products are very good quality! but not all of them can be sent internationally! because the touch of texture, the texture spray, in my case, I cannot buy them, because these products have a restriction warning. I am very upset and disappointed that the Brush and Pencils company has no options for one to purchase these products. I feel discriminated against for that reason. The company should make these products more envioment, more friendly, so they can reach other Countries. I have tried to communicate with them through e-mail, they do not answer me. I bought the titanium white alone, and it doesn't work without the touch of texture, of course! So why not make a friendly product? I already have an alternative to make highlights, the company is called Pearl Burnish Liquid white colored pencil. It does the same effect, and it's totally archival. And there's no mixing, just shake it and it's ready! You can get it on Etsy. So I opted for that product. On paper, it's much more expensive than Pastelmat 😳, and the truth is that I love sanded paper! because colored pencils stand out... but this paper is not so accessible for many. And, thanks for the demostration.
