I don't care if they don't consider themselves religious anymore, the message of hope and faith from their old songs like this one was what kept me going through my darkest times.
Good God, if your song leaves our lips If your work leaves our hands Then we will be wonders and vagabonds They will stare and say how empty we are How the freedom we had turned us up as dead men Let us be cold, make us weak Let us, because we all have ears Let us, because we all have eyes How they knew that this would happen We're so run down Good God! Can you still get us home... How can we still get home I'm not dreaming We're forgetting our forgiveness
Can this be him? The one I have waited centuries to see? How strange So far from his path that I barely see the promise of glory Can this be him, this hellboy?
From reading the Lyrics, this song really resonates with me. I go away from God because of my pain, but I find that he is what gives me life/hope/purpose. I go back to him because He is the only one who would still be there at the end of everything for me.
God, these lyrics speak to my heart so deliberately. Years ago, after a darker time in my life, when I was lost, I rediscovered my faith and was reborn with an enthusiasm and fire for God that nothing could extinguish. Now, because of complacency as a result of my life's improvement, that flame has slowly flickered down; I feel I am once again losing my faith: "How the freedom we had turned us up as dead men". I am still so grateful that I was saved, but my heart still yearns for the relationship with God I once had. I know there are others who have experienced the same. I pray God will bring us home once again. We won't forget our forgiveness!

After Define the Great Line (my favorite and also the first one I ever heard of them back in 2007) this album sounded even darker and sometimes more chaotic. It took some more listening to appreciate its greatness.
I’m trying to see them in November in Des Moines, Iowa after I go see $uicideboy$, Denzel Curry, Pouya, in Lincoln, Nebraska then The Elevators in Minneapolis both in October. I gotta see Underoath live.

Even tho I'm not Christian I definitely want to join the choir at my mothers church just to play songs like these and introduce everybody to new styles instead of modern Christian pop. I just really hate how the Christian pop sounds. Why are they trying so hard to copy mainstream music? From my expirience with christians, christianity clearly isn't about being mainstream and "normal" 🤣 so the music should probably reflect that and not copy every aspect of pop music.. I don't care if it caters to most people because "if they're Christian they should just deal with it if they don't like the music because worship is worship." -mother. I mean youre not gonna like EVERY song. these are people who think this genre of music is satanic which is just completely wrong. I thought this was a fitting first song to listen to as a farewell. Playing all their albums today, this band helped me through a lot and made me who I am today. I can still remember blasting They're Only Chasing Safety in my walkman when I was 14. Good times. Good luck to Underoath in their future endeavors
Zack Demmerly That's it man. Define The Great Line is by far the best album I know, in my opinion. My point is that they never got the exposure their albums deserved
People should really give this album a few more spins. It's easily the most underrated album I've ever listened to. It's heavy in a way that's somewhere between metalcore, symphonic movie music, and the chariot at times. They did so many creative and intense things and it's one of, if not the only unedited album I've ever heard.
Jake Mannix yeah check out the behind the scenes videos for this album. The amount of editing and mastering is minimal to the point that the producers took issue with it. Most of the guitar tones and feedback are recorded from mic feeds outside of the amps rather than line into internal effects and the vocals are pretty untouched. They said they wanted the dissonance and everything that they think sound unnatural. Pretty impressive.

OMG. I just noticed that the signs at 2:43 are written in Hungarian. I've been listening to this music and watching its music video for years, but I never noticed it. I love this song too much.
My interpretation of the vid: It's a land not unlike our land. Technological "advances" litter the landscape (powerlines, zeppelin, clock, ships, buildings, lightbulbs, etc)... but for all of that the land is desolate. Death has a lock on the land, and the people are nearly comatose for lack of hope. The women and children are alone, and are hoping in ships and planes (and some are hoping in God) to deliver them from the dead and depressing land. And most of the men are like skeletons, marching in line with ("clapping") to the dead spirit that grips the land. For those few men who aren't zombies/skeletons, they are still oppressed (tied to the earth/bound to the earth). For them to break free they must rise up into the heavenly places and practice spiritual warfare. The heavens are violent and intense (3:28 and on)... but a man must go there and fight if he wishes to break free (4:04 and on).
david garcia No David, you missed it. I said the same thing as you in so many words. But perhaps you weren't able to discern that? Way to correct someone with the same answer as you. Now go back to watching your guns and bullets videos. Or better yet, go and learn what this means "Our battle is not against flesh and blood..."
***** This band is nothing like Tool. Read some of the interviews of the band members (escpecially Aaron Gillespie, who is the biggest contributor to the lyrics/songwritings). These guys had/have great hearts for Jesus. Having been a fan of Underoath since Define the Great Line released, I have kept up with the members of the band and the lyricism of their music and I can testify these guys are not fake, they are the real deal.
***** You really don't need to jump the gun and make an outrageous claim when you clearly are without much understanding of who these guys stood for. Granted, a couple of their members left Christianity, but the message is still there. I can see where you could be confused. Oftentimes Christian Metal/hardcore bands will write their music based off situations or concepts. That means their music can be taken out of context easily. For example, Son of the Morning, by Oh Sleeper can be taken out of context if you don't listen to all of it. The overall concept of the album is how Satan opposes/despises God and his creation. The first song is Satan's viewpoint, then every song before the final track are stories of God using broken people to carry out his good plan. The final song is of the defeat over Satan, sin, and suffering. Listening to anyone of those songs stand alone can be very confusing without putting on the right lenses to understand them.
Do you even understand the basics of the good news of Jesus Christ?! Christ came for people, including the band members of Underoath!! And that is why they glorify God in this song, although I don't expect a religionist like you to perceive that. Haha... You have men like Tozer and Reidhead on your page- men who walked in the falsehood of religion vs the true form of Gods church, as is revealed in the scriptures. Do you know that the church is no business? Are you aware that she, like her master, despises denominations? Im sure you, being the true disciple you claim to be, are well aware of the unbiblical nature of the modern day office of the "pastor" (as Reidhead and Tozer laid claim to). Perhaps you ought to remain silent for some time and study and pray, before spouting off against some 20- something guys who, although frail, had courage to produce a song like this, which highlights the necessity of spiritual warfare in order to be an overcomer.
As a south African past his prime. Listening to this makes me think of of the good ol days with his friends. Around the fire, chilling. Thinking of what life was throwing at us. But bands like this made us believe in those days
If you like the build-up based tracks with the big ass climaxes at the end, Underoath songs you might like are: • Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape • Casting Such a Thin Shadow • Paper Lung • Pneumonia
Hearing this song now makes me think about where the band has been and where it's gone! "We're forgetting our forgiveness" "Good God, can you still get us home?"
Underoath is considerably religious metal. A lot of there music "including this song" derives from there beliefs. You can listen to the music and enjoy the sound, and even enjoy the message you feel it brings. But that doesn't change the actual meaning of the song. No need for cocky people to come and smite religious folk. And no need for religious folk to feel the need to defend a song.
I don't know if people are questioning nu-metal being a thing (which it is) or your choice of labeling them as nu-metal (which they're not), but i agree that the under-rating is strong with this one. At least now. Back then they didn't seem to be but now there are a lot more humans on earth so, yes their percentage of being listened-to has gone down, if anything, because of the number of newer humans not listening to them yet! spread the word!!
I just listened to a podcast and Aaron Gillespie said that if underoath would ever do an anniversary tour or something, he'd jump on no questions asked. So maybe when DEFINE THE GREAT LINE's anniversary drops in 2016 we'll have an underoath reunion tour.
The Greatest Music Video Ever! This was made for me......Why? Because since I was a small boy I've been fascinated with Airships, Hot Air Balloons, Lighthouses, Windmills, Forests, Clocks, Unique Individuals, Gears & Spinning Wheels and Ships & Planes! Thank you UNDEROATH 😎👌
If you can't find yourself, find god. I'm agnostic (if I had to label myself...). I found myself instead. I understand why people choose to believe in god but let's not make it into a cult. You don't need religion, you need god. By god I mean a force after life that fills the void. I believe in that, I just don't need anyone else to know, or respect me for these beliefs. Religion is too self absorbed and dangerous to be what any higher power would want. Just my opinion. This song is awesome by the way :)
I always find it interesting reading the bible how angry god gets with empty sacrfices, going so far as to say that he wishes someone would close the temple so people would stop pretending to worship him until the poor and sick were cared for. So as a devout christian I agree, God doesn't want self absorbed religion. :)
I appreciate your honesty and openness. I enjoy this song very much, great meaning, and good rock build up musically. Personally, I understand what your saying about religion bogging things down. We are not cans of soup - we don't necessarily need labels. In this life, we should focus less on the labels of religion and more on the relationships at hand. Personal relationships with others, and a personal relationship with God through Jesus' works on the cross. The first lines: "Good God, if your song leaves our lips If your work leaves our hands Then we will be wonderers and vagabonds." This life is ultimately meant to point others to God - so we can all spend the afterlife with him.
I'm a big fan of lil peep, and I absolutely love Hellboy, but I came here cause I was a big fan of underoath way before Peep came out. RIP Gustav Åhr u.u

I swear, Underoath's music is like sown into my heart, I miss them so much :c
I can't get enough of this song ever since I heard it for the first time. And the video sends chills down my spine everytime I watch it
agreed
This song still gets me every time.
Fuck man, It's been the best part of 7 years since I've listened to these guys properly and I still get goosebumps.
it's in my top 10. I'll always listen to. underneath is a feeling. the music they made back then was pure emotion
Bro I cant believe the lil peep and underoath connection, glad we both shared this
One of my all time favorite songs since it came out and will forever be.
I never get tired of this audio/vid. Cheers, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)
I love God and Jesus Christ. However, I love God above all.
Lost in the sound of separation is the best album of theirs in my opinion. Anybody else think so?
To each their own, my favorite will always be Define the Great Line.
+kameron billins Define The Great Line
+kameron billins Yep I agree, this plus DTGL was them at their peak, I just happen to think Lost was the better album.
+kameron billins Without a doubt
sorry I would have to go with define the great line
i have a veryy difficult time pausing or stopping this song. thank you UnderOath
Good work to whoever created the music video. Very creative.
As for the song... Intense climax at the end. I seriously need to get their albums.
If you like the build-up based tracks with the big ass climaxes at the end, Underoath songs you might like are:
• Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape
• Casting Such a Thin Shadow
• Paper Lung
• Pneumonia
They're apparently a thing again, saw this on AP, decided to check them out. Loving it.
Hi
they're legends.
after such a long time i have come to see it again ...
I had nearly forget it.
Leeeaaaave me to bleeed
i know i got you on your knees
@@KinkyHippie but something keeps on tellin me
@@1uci it keeps on telling me peep leave it alone
@@tobiaasek im good on my own momma miss me at home
Hearing this song now makes me think about where the band has been and where it's gone! "We're forgetting our forgiveness" "Good God, can you still get us home?"
13 years later-- congratulations to you adventurous people
Underoath is considerably religious metal.
What a beautiful song!!!
Of all time, of all genres, this is my favorite song. Truly exceptional in both sound and meaning . Underoath will be missed forever.
more relevant 2020 than ever before long live under oath
Larga vida a los recuerdos enterrados en esta canción.
Still can't get over how good this music video is
Good God can you still get us home 3
These tones are incredible-
Underoath created a masterpiece
One of the best bands in nu-metal history yet they're very underrated.
Smh.
Nu-metal? But yes i agree!
Astley Martin nu-metal?
*Christian Metalcore
Esto siempre fue género deathcore
I don't know if people are questioning nu-metal being a thing (which it is) or your choice of labeling them as nu-metal (which they're not), but i agree that the under-rating is strong with this one. At least now. Back then they didn't seem to be but now there are a lot more humans on earth so, yes their percentage of being listened-to has gone down, if anything, because of the number of newer humans not listening to them yet! spread the word!!
Fuck Hellboy, this been my jam since I was 14 years old. True Underoath fan :3
THIS ALBUM IS SO GOOD
This song 14yrs later still sends shivers down my spine...
I just listened to a podcast and Aaron Gillespie said that if underoath
would ever do an anniversary tour or something, he'd jump on no questions
asked. So maybe when DEFINE THE GREAT LINE's anniversary drops in 2016
we'll have an underoath reunion tour.
YOU PREDICTED THE FUTURE
+Angela Bartini I'm beyond stoked. Totally going to catch those dudes.
+Bryan Baez same, I'm probably gunna see them when they come near my area that would be so frickin dope xD
My grand children will know of underoath.
Chad
Aaron can reach your soul. Such a great musician and singer.
Hellboy bby
rip. 💔
YES
Lots of love to you.
Thank you. Im soo with you on this.
I always find it interesting reading the bible how angry god gets with empty sacrfices, going so far as to say that he wishes someone would close the temple so people would stop pretending to worship him until the poor and sick were cared for. So as a devout christian I agree, God doesn't want self absorbed religion. :)
I grew more spiritually reading a couple verses from the bible than I did my whole catholic school teachings.
RIP Gustav Åhr u.u
it took me 11 years to accept and understand this and its truly amazing
We're still here...
Good God, can you still get us home?
This comment is ironic with your picture being dark souls art
James is awake?
Always a classic
2019 and still epic
Song of the current ages. How the freedom we had turned us up as dead men.
I remember back in 2008 when this song first came out .. Non stop listening to it everyday .. It was a life changing
You all remember the days of downloading songs off lime wire to make the most badass soundtrack to listen to on the way to school? Those were the days…
Still a nice song 2016, Jesus lov!
Heavy nostalgia
this is...just..wow......
Essa produção é maravilhosa o som tambem.
I used to listen to this in high school - I’m 28 now, timeless art truly hope the people who made are in good health
