I grew up in Wasilla and lived in Alaska for 25 years. My second husband was Aleut and we had 3 kids. some of the best years of my life were out in fish camp and working on the fishing boat. Even when we lived in Anchor Point, we lived a very sustainable lifestyle, always had moose, caribou, salmon and halibut in the freezer. This was a great video. I live in the states now and miss it sometimes. Many people don't understand that there are about a dozens different native tribes that inhabit Alaska.
Beautiful message. Thank you for your service. I love what you say about our brother and sister veterans, that we continue to serve even though we are out of uniform. I love your message about the life of traditional people. I learned a lot from my grandparents who themselves had a similar message as poor farmers in Poland. They had great faith and they were thankful and respectful for everything given to them in this world, the animals and the resources. They were never wasteful.
Cool message, wonderful story. I live in western Arkansas, another beautiful place. So many folks disrespect this place by tossing litter, dumping trash, and poaching is another sad event.
thankyou for everything you did, Sam. you truly are a warrior and having you in our ranks was an honor for all of us who love this country enough to shed our blood and do the unthinkable. this paradise will endure due to men of your caliber. i agree that we aren’t owed anything. we serve the American people.. clearly understood by all service members. we don’t fight because we hate what is in front of us, but because we love what we left behind.
Actually, the Park name was officially re-named in 1980, by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act signed by Jimmy Carter. The mountain officially in 2015.
I respect you for your service and for what you’re doing, but the way you’re presenting Alaskan natives only shows one side. I’ve seen natives snag salmon in the side and keep them, drop kick pinks back into the river, and dogs that have received gunshot wounds from what some natives call “sport”. I’m not saying that all natives are like that, but only showing the positives doesn’t give an accurate representation.
That’s why I get frustrated at those fake outdoorsmen who only take the fish fillets or certain parts of a kill. And then they complain and hate other race for also hunting/fishing. But we use everything of the game. I believe if you cannot utilize 90% of the game taken or just hunt for fun to look cool, then stick to the grocery store.
I'm sorry. But, that was boring as hell. What does this have to do with backpack s? Give me something that works not something that will make me feel good emotionally.
