As a lefty, i can definitely say that in the Sanzen, the ink dries faster and very much loving it. It has been so much more convenient for me. All the techos now have the same paper.
If you're curious about the pages in the back of the Japanese version, here's a breakdown of what they are: The Japanese version of the noodles page is a list of recommended noodles from each prefecture in Japan so it’s a little different to the explanation page in the English version. They asked Hobonichi users to recommend noodles you should eat if you visit that prefecture, which is a very Japanese thing haha. Each prefecture is famous for some kind of food and a lot of people like to visit places specifically to try that place’s famous food. The next one is actually for traditional Japanese seasons. The page has an explanation of when each season is and what it entails. That is also what the extra info in the date box on the daily pages is referring to: the date as it would be following the old calendar. The next page is an emergency kit list. Basically things you should have ready in case of an emergency, since Japan has a lot of natural disasters. Most people in Japan have an emergency kit prepared in case of such an event and this page has a list of things you should put in it. The next page is actually for emergencies too, it has a place to write important info like your nearest evacuation location, emergency contacts, important info like allergies etc, that you would need in an emergency. As well as emergency services phone numbers which are at the bottom of the page. The next page is the size conversions, then the other ways to enjoy your Techo, gifts, Japanese to Western years conversion tables with the Chinese zodiac as well. Hopefully that was helpful. I never see the English-speaking side of Hobonichi users talk about what these pages are and as I live in Japan I figured I could share what they’re about. ^-^ As for mine I got the Liberty Fabrics A6 Hon (my first Hon!) I'm super excited about it because the fabric is so nice. I also got the Smiles & Tears MOTHER 2 weeks because I like the game very much and the artwork is really cute. I also got the charcoal fairy cover for a regular A6 for my work planner. And an A5 Hon - the snake bow and tie one. The snake is just so cute and derpy haha I love the little top hat design too here. It's going to be my journal which I am excited about too. ^-^
I got the a6 original for next year, with a weekly supplement. Got the Hiroko Kubota cover too, it's soooo pretty 😭. I got the avec July - December book to experiment with for the back half of the year and I've been loving it. But I'm not loving walking around with two separate books (because I do want to kind of finish my weeks this year 😅). I ordered from Hobonichi this year because they had some stuff in the shop I really wanted, but I don't think I'll be doing that for 2026. Unless the free item is really good hahahaha
Recently found your channel and love all your videos. Was really excited to find another scientist, but saw your topic in this video and gasped, I also did research on fungal pathogens! So impressed you can juggle making such wonderful content, creating art, and writing a thesis!
That is so cool to hear!!! It’s always exciting to hear someone sharing both passions, how I’m really curious about what pathogens you did your research on👀
@@untitled_paintings I did my thesis in grad school on Aspergillus fumigatus! I don't do fungal research anymore but it was such a cool organism to work with!
Thank you!! And omg so many new pens, I looove your little trio! Did you get different sizes nibs for them? Hope you have the best time with your hobonichi books as well🥰
@@untitled_paintings they are definitely a favorite of mine! I use at least one of them everyday in my Cousin haha. :) Definitely recommend Diamine ink with them - it works like a dream! I usually stick to EF nibs, but I did get a M nib this time and it's great! Mainly for headings or fun calligraphy throughout.
Must’ve just been a misunderstanding then! But I did try out the midori cover and mine fits fine, might try to stretch it a little with heat but I think I’ll be fine with that🥰
@SarahBaileyArts I don’t show it here but you’ll see it in a video coming out on Friday! It fits perfectly as in ‘it just about fits’ but it does! And the book + plastic cover all fits inside the have a nice day cover as well (again, a little bit of a tight squeeze but it does work, so I may not always have to take the cover on cover off to put the other one on!)

AH well, maybe people were talking about the a5 cover fitting the a5 hon? It’s been recommended to me multiple times🥲
