There are a lot of good woods out there, beech is probably one of my favorites. They take so long to grow that I don't cut them, but when one comes down, it is a treat. It burns so clean and hot. I had one go down in last May's ice storm and got almost 3 cords out of it. It was close to 40" across at the base.

@@InTheWoodyard dump that slash in a pile near the house and plant a couple spaghetti squash at the southern base of the pile. You hardly have to water because the pile condenses moisture. And it also feeds the squash. You don't stir wood chips into the dirt, just leave a pile. And each squash plant gives you twenty squash at five pounds each. And you can sell those to firewood customers. For like a dollar a pound .

So... let me see, Ann Marie said, "with the right tractor, and the right wood scoop, and the right trailer(s), and a new duallies pickup, and a new high capcity/speed/pressure splitter, and her amazing work ethic/talent/drive, she could knock out a job that size in about a half day". I guess if I come up with $178,000 USD in hobby money, she'd be on her way. Oh loggers, can you drop a few loads off in the driveway. I'll get a short term street parking permit. Thanks all for showing her what can be.

A crew for cleanup is better than 1 for cleanup. And now that your business has evolved to include loading trailers, here's a tip for you. Keeping in mind that you often mention time constraints, load more efficiently by turning 90 degrees or less after scooping a bucket. Keep that in mind when spotting the trailer for loading. Your steering arm and your time clock will thank you after 100 loads. GNI

it looks like you've got a sore shoulder when you throw those chunks back up to the barn wall. You're not allowed two handed pitches in the Bigs anyway, so you should take some time to heal. Playing with pushycats is a good way to take care of that shoulder!
I hate to tell you what to do, you know I do, but parking your wagon like that...? Really...? Burning your yard waste...? on Earth Day...? I used to split with a one way splitter. It hardly ever caused me to get verrrry sleepy. Does Andrew know you've got that splitter set that way? 'She who must be obeyed' tells me it's because I'm old! Nah! I blame it entirely on the way you work that indefatigable splitter!! Excuse me, I'll watch the rest when I wake up. GMI

@@InTheWoodyard You have my sympathies,...and symilarities! - OK, so I'll tell you. The loader man down at the pit told me to back up to the pile at less than 90 degrees to the loader movement. Mucho less cranking on the steering wheel!! You're parking at 180, turning a total of 360 every cycle. - Have you ever heard of "road hypnosis"? Well, there's somethin' very close to it called '"woodsplitter coma". I learned all about it, down at the Univ. of Science, Petrification Dept. Check it out!

Looks like you are discarding about a third of what you split. What gives?
