Great score on that PTO skidding winch. You'll wonder how you ever lived with out it. A few self releasing snatch blocks, tree straps and a skidding nose cone (portable winch company out of Canada) and you'll have no trouble yarding out the most inaccessible logs from your property.

The fransgård is a brand from 1967 in Denmark and in 1978 they started to work together with professional loggers in Norway to produce loging winches so the winch is developed and produced in Denmark not Germany

A couple points to consider from a Farmi owner… Always keep some tension on the cable when you’re reeling it in. Loose loops will get bound up and it will be difficult to pull out. Also, the ropes have always felt like an accident waiting to happen. Loose ropes around a spinning pto? Be aware of what you’re doing and where those ropes are and avoid the urge to loop it around your hand for a better grip. Great piece of equipment but still a lot of work involved.

I had a winch like this, but it was a different make and it worked great. I managed a vineyard during the summer and cut cord wood in the winter. We had a 50hp four wheel drive tractor. You need to be aware of what you are doing. I had a guy working for me and he was skidding the logs out to a landing where we would cut them to length. He parked the tractor at an angle to the jag of logs, got off and tried to winch them in. Instead he rolled the tractor over on it's side. I was lucky he didn't get hurt and he didn't turn the tractor off. I unhitched the logs and hooked the cable to a large tree. With little effort I rolled the tractor back on it's wheels. He learned his lesson and never did that again.

You’re going to find yourself using it for all kinds of fun stuff. I once pulled the dent out of an old f150 with it. I used to use a farmi winch but have that back to the owner a few years ago and got a deal on almost the same winch you’ve got, just way way older. I am having a hard time getting it to pull anything more than small sticks of stove wood. Maybe that there is grease on the clutch. Have fun with that thing. It’s a blast.

When pulling try and set your tractor more inline with the pull. The winch is strong enough that if the log fetched up you can roll your tractor over. A snatch block and recovery straps can make a good method to redirect the cable if you need to. Also can chain the snatch block to the log and run the cable back to near the tractor to get 2X pulling power if needed.

Nice score! The winch is a game changer. I run the exact same one but considerably older and heavily used. Avoid excessive lube on the drive chain as it can run down and get onto the friction face of the clutch (its bonded to the driven sprocket and the cable spool has a machined face that acts as a pressure plate). They’re fantastic machines. Enjoy

It's tweaking that thing hard pulling from the top pulley, prolly should thread it down through the mid pulley before you put a load on it. That will get the load on the center mass of the tractor plus it will increase the pull force like a snatch block. I've got an old school Elkem Formtec 3500 ( Norse) kinda like this one, they're pretty awesome once you get set up with chains. On mine you can't remove the cable from the lower pulley, I found that interesting on your design. Nice winch, did'nt hear what ya paid for it but it will be worth every penny with what you got going on.

I have the exact same winch I run mine on a 40hp new Holland tractor, it is the single best purchase I have ever made, a total game changer. If someone was to take my skidding winch I would never cut wood again.

The name 'Fransgård' is most likely Swedish with the 'å.' Translated it could mean either France Farm or Fran's Farm. There are quite a few things from the SW Germany that could also have French words mixed with German. My great, great grand father was born in a village on the southern Rhine River where it was small enough to throw rocks from Germany into France.
Edit......I was wrong. This is actually a Danish company with a name spelled with the Swedish character 'å.' It might have been a Swedish company originally that was then purchased by a Danish group. This is not uncommon.

I stand corrected on the use of the 'å' in Danish and Norwegian (who use the same alphabet) All of my time has been spent learning Swedish. I'll check Wikipedia next time.
