On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Chicago on 4-21-18.
We're looking at a 1960 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible in White Paint.
The car's Owner is Ryan McKenzie. Ryan’s had this car for two weeks.
Ryan mentioned as a boy he played with a toy of this exact color model car.
I’m happy Ryan was able to find and purchase a full size version of the car he played with as a boy to bring back those wonderful memories.

What an improvement over the ‘59. I have always considered the 1960 one of the most beautiful Cadillac’s ever.

But yet I never liked the 1961. My next door neighbor had a white 62 coupe and it never did anything for me. My parents very good friends had a lilac 1962 Sedan de Ville that was the first car that I ever rode in the had factory air conditioning. Here in Wisconsin that pretty uncommon.

Good to hear he finally has his dream car. It is a super nice Cad. I had a 1959 Cadillac white with black and white interior fully restored when I was 19 years old back in 1976. Thanks for sharing this one Lou.

I had the 60' Fleetwood in 1972. What beautiful car it was. Driving it was like riding on a mattress, so smooth. If any one hasn't had the chance to take a ride in one of these, your missing something special. I regret getting rid of it back then. I was only 18 and didn't have the money to maintain it properly. There were just too many features on this thing had to be fixed and there was A LOT of co$t in them. I didn't know what I really had. 😢 So glad to see this car looking and running like it should!

Wow! What a beautiful car! Cadillac's finest. That's a work of art. I'm a Cadillac man and a car collector myself. My first Caddy was a 1963 and I was 18 years old. Then I had two 1970's one was a coupe DeVille and the other was a sedan DeVille. Now I have a 1995 sedan DeVille with 70,00 miles 4.9 motor. I love them. But I also have a 1966 AMC Ambassador that I take to car shows and I also have an 84 Thunderbird. I'm a car guy. Ive had so many cars that had to sell them because I ran out of space. I had 9 cars at one time. Im down to three now. Thanks for sharing this beautiful Cadillac Lou.

My Mom had a 1960 - 2 door hardtop. I got to drive it to the U of A from Phoenix. On the 2 lane highway from Apache Junction to Florence I got it up to 115 mph and you had no idea it was going that fast. It weighed in at 5784 pounds. Fun,Fun,Fun.

Thanks Lou and Ryan! The '60s were the most impressive, curviest and swoopiest of the Harley Earl-era finned Caddys, IMHO. In 61, they got boxier and sprouted vestigial lower fins, and by 65, Bill Mitchell decided to take the brand another way -- still cool, but never quite this cool again.

When I was a teenager I occasionally drove a white Caddy like this one to school. Compared to my '64 mustang the Caddy was huge, and always needed a fill up with Premium gas. There was never any questioning from my buddies who the car belonged to, it obviously wasn't mine. It was such a boulevard cruiser and wonderful to drive.

Lou, I have seen several of your videos recently. You find some beautiful machines to post on UA-cam. You have nice coverage of the exterior features. You seem to take some time on the dashboard and of course under the hood.. What you seem to neglect for true car enthusiasts is the interior especially the back seats and the uniqueness of some features on these old machines. Show us what all those strange buttons do, don't just touch the button and move on. The inside of these cars are sometimes as unique as the outside and I enjoy seeing these wonderful interiors just as much as I like looking at the exterior. Show us more of the inside. Turn on those little lights and open up those ashtrays in the armrests.
    Thank you.

Hi M H, Happy to read you're enjoying the Channel. Outstanding suggestion. SaabKyle does quite a bit of that usually on new car reviews. Challenges comes from two areas. 1) There is a level of trust being built with the Owner who many times at a Car Show I've meet for 30 seconds to 2 minutes to discuss I'd like to feature his / her car on an episode, so if I go in there and start playing with everything they might find that "to personal" and 2) Sometimes the stuff doesn't work :-) With some of the Care Takers I know better, I'll see what I can do. Again, outstanding suggestion, and thank you for wanting to improve the experience with the Viewer, Lou

This has been my dream car as well since I was 16 and a man who had a really nice, big vacation log cabin on a lake in my neighborhood used to roll up in one of these with the top down and that car was just the prettiest car that you could have imagined. It totally bummed me out when I heard that he was trading it in, because I would not be seeing it anymore. He traded it in on a dark purple, (factory color), 1964 Cadillac with a white convertible top, ultra-white interior with black carpet and dash. Another stop you in your tracks, stunning car. The man had exquisite taste, because I liked that one just as much as the 1960 Cadillac, which was just like yours, minus the white buttons. His had white and red lights in the door. My brother worked for him and used to take us for rides in it. I remember listening to the song Telstar riding around in it and looking out across the hood. Now, you can't even see the hood of your car from the drivers seat. I drive a Lincoln MKZ today, only because the Cadillacs, although still fine cars, have become too sporty for me. I must hand it to Cadillac though, because they are making some extremely fast cars today. IMHO, there is not a car even today that is styled better than your 1960. Nothing better than seeing those fins and that outline in the rear view mirror. Great choice!

The only Caddy I ever had was a 2001 Seville with front wheel drive and the Northstar fuel injected V8. I was very peppy and a blast to drive. I just loved that car. It's so nice to know that in order to pass, all one had to do was nudge the gas petal a bit and you're there. I don't know what kind of time it would have turned in the 1/4 mile, but I'm confident it would have held it's own with most '60's muscle cars.

    • @loucostabile

Every guy's dream come true for sure! Nice job with the master cylinder, disc brakes and alternator...These gentle upgrades are necessary to make the car safe and drivable. The old generators really didn't do anything at idle, so a car with plenty of accessories could draw the battery down. None of the cars we had when I was a kid had this issue, the AM radio didn't draw much current! That's a shame about the heater core, sure hope it didn't ruin the carpet. I'm hoping the job wasn't too hard, looks like the core was easily accessible on this non AC car....I'm envious for sure, don't think I will ever be able to accomplish owning my dream car....

Possibly the nicest way to further deplete fossil fuels.
I recall Ralph Nader was extremely critical of those fins...
“...In "Unsafe at Any Speed," Ralph Nader claimed a little girl was killed after she ran into a fin on a 1959 Cadillac, while riding her bike or something. Ripped open her torso or some such gory injury. Nader also had harsh words for the sharp lower-body fins, which are properly called "skegs."
In the year of its greatest height, the Cadillac fin bore an uncanny resemblance to the tail of the stegosaurus, a dinosaur that had two sharp rearward-projecting horns on each side of the tail. In 1964 a California motorcycle driver learned the dangers of the Cadillac tail fin. The cyclist was following a heavy line of traffic on the freeway going toward Newport Harbor in Santa Ana. As the four-lane road narrowed to two lanes, the confusion of highway construction and the swerving of vehicles in the merging traffic led to the Cadillac’s sudden stop. The motorcyclist was boxed in and was unable to turn aside. He hit the rear bumper of the car at a speed of about twenty miles per hour, and was hurled into the tail fin, which pierced his body below the heart and cut him all the way down to the thigh bone in a large circular gash. Both fin and man survived this encounter.
The same was not true in the case of nine-year-old Peggy Swan. On September 29, 1963, she was riding her bicycle near her home in Kensington, Maryland. Coming down Kensington Boulevard she bumped into a parked car in a typical childhood accident. But the car was a 1962 Cadillac, and she hit the tail fin, which ripped into her body below the throat. She died at Holy Cross Hospital a few hours later of thoracic hemorrhage...“
Fins became much smaller and less pointy after ‘59.

Oh my. That’s not the original horn! Cadillacs had dual horns. The pitch was higher, regal and distinctive! This honking atrocity sounds like a garbage truck’s!
If the grille is like the 59’s it’s constructed of 300 pieces of anodized aluminum, clipped together. A work of art in itself. Never needed polishing. It’s an important aspect of what made Cadillacs distinctive in bygone days!
Nice interior, but the door panels look like a deVille’s. The chromed interior pieces were beautifully finished, felt substantial, and were a pleasure to use. There was noting flimsy about the controls!!!

Now THAT'S a car to be proud of.
I wonder if he can find the plastic toy to match it now. When I was little, I remember people getting a toy version of the car they purchased new from the dealership.
I also suffer from the toy syndrome. When I was 3, I was given a Matchbox toy Greyhound Scenicruiser. Ever since, I've wanted the real thing. I've come close to getting one a couple times, but still haven't made the jump.
There's a guy in Peoria that has two of them, with one (PD4501 771) having been fully restored to Greyhound specs.
If you ever find yourself needing to go to Peoria, you should look up that coach.
