Certainly not overdone, those bins will last you for a long time. If you're going to do / make something, do it properly.
Cheers to that!
I've been a builder for many years and have seen quite a fair bit of sheds. The plans in ryan's package ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxB7IXYxLzb_Ichhe45zM3Im5xfEiSp9vB have some of the nicest looking sheds i've seen in a while.
Cool kid. My daughter started out helping me build a treehouse from pallets when she was 4. She's just got herself a Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
Beautiful man. she says you call that a treehouse dad hold my juice box😉. It's so awesome to watch them grow. I can only imagine! Congrats!
@@JoeSimple And you are making the most of this unique time - wishing you all the best, Joe.
I love your story. So cool. My Dad took our son to watch road construction, and now he is a heavy equipment operator. He loves it! That's what it's all about. Best wishes...❤️
I kept smiling to myself while watching you use bolts, extra screws & crossbars to make it extra sturdy. My husband ALWAYS goes overboard with making something sturdy, but it never falls apart. I'm going to show him this video to convince him that a sturdy compost bin system can be built from pallets. Thanks.
It's a blessing and a curse. Thank you for your kind comments, and good luck on the compost engineering I'm mean building😎.
Thank you so much for this video! So much inspiration and ideas! I love how you used some scrap wood to create the slots for the fence boards to create an easily removable “door”. Another video I watched did some super complicated cut with a very expensive tabletop saw on a 4x4 post 😳 If you want to go SUPER overboard with your compost bins you could add some hinged lids and wrap around the sides and back of your compost bin with chicken wire or hardware cloth. LoL 😂 I have kids and a pack of coyotes that frequent our yard, and soon we will have dogs too, so I’m wondering how your bins have held up so far??? Would you consider making a short update video???
I made something very similar. I recommend stapling garden cloth around the interior to keep compost material from finding its way into the pallet cavities. That will help your structure last even longer.
100%, yes.
"Make it strong, make it don't move." Perfect!
I really appreciate your dedication to "if you do something. Do it well" also am I the only one who finds it so endearing how the tone of your voice goes soft when you address your daughter? ❤❤ so sweet
Great idea . I was looking to build a compost area for my garden . And here you’re. Thank you .
You DID NOT go overboard. It's BEAUTIFUL! ❤
Thank you for your clear explanations, even using the names of tools and hardware - not everyone does that so well, but it is a real help to those of us who have almost no experience building things or using basic tools. I am so happy for your little girl, that she gets to watch you and often help, so she will feel comfortable and confident doing things herself as she grows! You seem like a great dad as well as a great UA-cam teacher!
I remember doing a lot of this stuff with my father throughout my life. Started young just like her. Its served me well
I was wondering how I was going to build my compost bin, after watching this, no problem! Thanks for making it so simple!
Impressive. Best pallet compost construction method I've seen.
No such thing as overdone. Ever see something so cool and inspired and resourceful, and think "why didn't I think of that?". Just had that moment. Thank you for this.
So my set up is nearly identical. However for the front slats I permanently attached the two lowest ones. They help keep the whole rig stable and I never ever need to remove those bottom ones. Just thought I'd share.
My biggest suggestion is make your bins wide enough to scoop out with your bucket on your tractor. If you have a 5 ft bucket make 6 ft wide bins. And such. Then you can scoop out the compost when it’s done to move without shovels. And if you need you can toss the compost easily with tractor. I made my first been like he did which sucked since I bought a tractor a year latter. Since then I made a new compost bins much larger.
Wonderful design, I look foward to making my compost bin. Thanks for this tutorial.
4:55 "Make it strong. Make it don't move." I LOVE your approach! Preventing problems before they even have a chance to develop. Going a tad overboard? Maybe. Regrets? Zero, I'm sure.
Build it RIGHT the first time
Now I want to rebuild my pallet compost bins. Nice work!
Perfect bland of functional, study and still somewhat aesthetic. Gonna go for this one here. Thank you for the inpiration!
“We are with dog and child!” 👏🏽🤣 this is great demo! Mine will look way more red neck! Thanks so much for sharing diy!
That is so awesome! I love how the little girl wants to help her Papa.
Just what I needed! The solution for sliding the front boards is simple genius! Thanks for saving me time and labor. PS: That Vermeer chipper is a beast!
You didn't go over board. Love your pollards composed area. Brilliant job 👏
Nice. So good to see your child out “working” with daddy. Enjoy every waking moment of it. It doesn’t last long, they grow so fast.
Those compost bins are perfect. Just right. Good job.
Great job! We made some without reinforcements and now we can do it again! Thanks for sharing!
I love your attention to detail, and I know the satisfaction that comes from doing a job right. But realistically, these bins are going to compost themselves in a few years, so overbuilding a compost system is just going to end up wasting wood. I just put my pallets together using some stainless steel L-brackets; the weight of the compost inside makes them rock-solid. When the pallets disintegrate, I just remove the L-brackets and re-use them on the next build. A lot more time and cost-efficient!
That is absolutely awesome!
Gosh, the compost area has the best views! Thanks for the video.
I had the same idea and configuration as you but your idea to use the removable boards in the front is an excellent idea so as the level changes it makes it easy to access. Cheers 👍
Great job! I used hardware cloth on the inside of the compost bins I made our of pallets in Ireland. Worked great! I didn't go the extra mile to make it sturdy, but I will this time around in Nebraska.
Glad to see you have the supervisor (your Daughter) at the work site. I love having my kids around when I'm building stuff. Not over engineered you just don't want it breaking in a few years.
Perfect!
Built this today with my little girl🤙 great little project!
BEAUTIFUL!
I REALLY LIKE that!
Wow! Your pallet compost bins are the most beautiful on UA-cam! Thank you for sharing!
That is awesome!!!
Enjoyed watching the bins come into being.
Exceptional video with attention to every detail. Thank you for sharing and happy composting!!
That thing will last you a long, long time of composting! Thanks for posting.
Great ideas with the pallets that quite quick and easy way. I appreciate it.
Sweet ......Pretty cool ......!
Slick!! Time to make some upgrades to my palette bins. Thanks for sharing!
Nicely done! I've been thinking about building a compost bin, and this would be more solid than what I had in mind.
That's a great compost container, thanks for sharing.
Awesome !
Great video. Nice build. No bs. Thank you
Oh, rebar for support, brilliant idea! I have a bunch of them around.
love the compost setup...and the Hotboxin w/ Mike Tyson beat!!
It looks good and sturdy great job.
It's completely gorgeous, and I'm already tired just watching you! I love my Makita tools, and I'm getting myself a "table saw contraption ", so thanks!!
Great job. Thanks for sharing
Love the way you tell what you did and then show what and how you did it. Most VLOGS I've watched do just the opposite, do the steps and then tell. Works better for me the way you did it. Thanks!
This is fantastic!
Thank you for that video, I have pallets that I was going to dispose , no need to keep.
I know can build a compost bin using your Idea, I am gonna pass along your page, for the many great ideas you have.
I have a hard time throwing things away, Thank you!
It's good to have a helper!
Anything worth doing is worth doing it right..even if it is a little "over engineered". Great job!!
Love this
👍👍 super job!
I just bought myself 5 second hand pallets from a local DIY store and will now follow your good advice on how to construct them. I think I will finish up with a lick of paint to protect them from the weather. You daughter is so funny and cute - Reminds my of my 2 year old son who also like to get in the way haha
Those are great looking bins. Nice job. Thanks.
Electric front panel opening, solar motion detector lights, flat screen TV, pool, convenient restroom facilities and a mother-in-law apartment. Now that would be over engineering but also wouldn't be a surprise. Love the vids.
You could live in this thing! Great job!
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for showing us how you built it.
those bins look great and so heavy duty think its what i needed Ray
Yes, they are still standing strong, going to have to watch your video on fast composting, I'm still trying to figure out how to compost the woodchips quicker.
Thank you very much, from Australia. You have saved me heaps of time. Well done
Those look very nice!
Some of the nicest pallet bins I've seen, great job!
Looks great!
compost and beats.. sweet work..easy watching and inspiring..shnice!
good work interesting solution with the front wall 👍👍👍👊👊👊
Looks great !!
Love how your dog came in a centered himself right in front of the camera. Good doggie!
Super stout and nice looking!
I am going to be trying to build pretty much the same thing. Thanks for your example.
Looks AMAZING!!!!
That's the finest design and construction of pallet-style compost bins I've ever seen. I'm looking for something with less 'manual-turning labour' so I'm going to the barrel style with paddles inside that can be rolled to mix, more often. But I bet this setup works like a charm! (Your little girl is a treasure!)
Thank you. I will be building this. Nice!
I love it, well designed, practical and beautiful.
looks great and super efficient
Excellent!
Best compost bins I’ve seen yet! Thanks for the video!
love it
Genial! Te ha quedado perfecto.Felicidades.
Nice compost bins! Thanks for the ideas
Awesome. What a brilliant job.
Perfect
#goals 🙌
Cool !
That’s a solid looking bin! 👍
Best looking compost bins I've seen good job👍
Well done!
I like how you dug out the earth for your foundation before setting your pallets up.
Pallets are everywhere and generally free because no one knows what to do with them. Craigs or neighborhood apps with residents looking for someone to take it away. Keep up the kool ideas.
Peace!
Awesome! I'm now inspired, thank you so much. I'm designing my greenhouse roof after your chicken mansion as well. Your a good teacher, very informative. Thank you.
Awesome! Thank you!
My fav video on this so far
that is one nice set of bins
Great construction tutorial. The slats across the front with the spacer are smart.
Did great Jo did great? An uv got a great helper( Darther)!😉😃😇
EXCELLENT!!! Exactly what I was looking to do. I had an idea and watching your video made it come to life thanks for sharing.
I thought of this same design nine year ago. Great minds think alike. I am starting to get some rot at the bottom this year.
Good to know they lasted nine years. I was thinking two maybe three years before the pallets started to break down. It’s worth the amount of engineering if they are going to last that long.
I wonder if I used a row of breeze blocks along the bottom they would last even longer.
