RE: The brake 'shoes' wearing. They will usually last 50,000+ miles. You may need to deglaze them with emery cloth from time to time when braking efficiency drops or when the start squealing. I do mine once a year on my recumbent trike and they are 15years old now with >1.3mm wear to the braking material.
I cannot find any information on your website about the HTR150 hook spanner. It is not listed on the Tools page, and there is no description of the specs to outsource it via another company.
Pretty nice video. I line up the axle flat with somewhere on the rivet, using the 17 mm wrench I'm holding. Because I hold the brake arm tight when I tighten the locknut. I never thought to use that tooth wrench. LOL. To do it the first time, I would just trail and error, till it was good. Getting the play right is always a bugger tho. And anyway, my brake has actually still worked when oil seeped onto the pads and liner. LOL. BTW >> Is that new shift R 5 hub way less trouble that the 5w??
Do you know if it is possible to sneak a bit of oil into the hub via the hollow axle? I personally swear by adding a bit of oil to gear hubs, even if grease is the general advice, they run noticeably smoother.
Do you have any videos on how to take apart a sturmey Archer Dynamo hub? Only because I need to take out the generator so I can get the Hub painted if you do I'd really appreciate it if you can send me a video or added to your collection thank you!!!
I have taken apart my XLFDD a few times and I think you reassembly process is over complicated, for any with cartridge bearings as mine does. Good tip marked the flats though, should have thought of that.
what would cause drag between the brake pad and the drum? I'm trying to work on an old SA drum brake, and there's really no gap between the pad and the drum.
I like how he dribbled grease onto the inside rim of the hub, while saying to be careful not to get any grease on those surfaces. Nice touch.
I'm so sick of dealing with derailleurs and disk brakes this may be the way to go.👍
Front drum brake with dynamo. Best money I ever spent.

My SA XL-FDD has 28,000 miles with 1/3 on tours. It is getting real close to the line, making it hard to get the cable barrel off and on.
I'm using your product and this video is helpful.
Great video mate!!!, what model is that hub?, thank you!

No I wouldn’t do that. Sniff of oil on pads land it’s game over.

No I never did and the Hub is still sitting in a box. Waiting to be done a year later.
Thanks for asking?
You need a special tool for that. I have the XLFDD
Wow you actually have the tool for it would you be able to do this for me? Cuz I've been waiting so long to try to get this front hub done
I also men looking for that same model for the rear but have a 3-speed you know where I can find one at like that

Brilliant!
Just make sure you don't get grease in the drum UNLIKE that shown in this video.
I saw. That's going to be an interesting experience
could these be installed on any bike. Can they be installed on a e bike?
Yes. Provide OLD matches that if hub.
Is "Rat City Bikes" and "Aaron's Bicycle Repair" one and the same thing? What phone number can we reach you all at?
Yup.
You dumped a load of grease right into the drum while you were telling us not to do that. Re-shoot?
And... where do you find the HTR150 Hook Spanner?

Is your cable too tight?
@@bob-ny6kn cable isn’t even attached.
@@AlaskaBikeDoctor while spinning the wheel, can you move the arm to a position where there is no rubbing? (Maybe the pads have swollen or shifted)
@@bob-ny6kn nope.
@@AlaskaBikeDoctor hmm. Maybe RJ the Bike Guy's video might help... ua-cam.com/video/2SnEkpU0YeU/v-deo.html
