      That would give me a heart attack😂 I can only imagine how light they could get it with those dimensions and going fully titanium

    • @anthonystevens8683
      @anthonystevens8683 3 роки тому +1

      Now a smaller one keeping titanium would be awesome as long as they kept the current models design characteristics, but I think one of the reasons that the Pelagos (500M pressure remember) is thicker is to accommodate the automatic helium release valve so I guess they could call it Pelagos 300. I think they could sell both a 300M and the current model. I might even get the RHD version of a 300M :-)

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому +3

      Fully agree that the design has to remain the same so as to not lose any of that Pelagos charm. And yeah I'd be more than ok with 300m considering the only water it sees is when I wash it in the sink! Sometimes I actually do feel sad for it that I doesn't get to see it's natural habitat pretty much ever😂
      While we're at it we might as well throw in a GMT in the mix. I think I would damn near collapse if that was released in a 40mm size loool

      @@thewatchidiot Ahh, yes a GMT would be the cherry on the top. I have an old Omega Aqua Terra GMT in titanium that is perfect for when I'm working with people in different countries. Would you replace the dive time bezel with a GMT as well as adding that extra hand?

    I was looking at a good watch, and was looking at Breitling, Tag, omega, tissot, Rolex, grand saiko, and Tudor. Narrow down the result to Omega sea master and Tudor pelagos. Just got the pelagos and can’t be happier! Really happy with the choice the more I review my decision the happier I become in my decision

      Nice that's awesome, the blue dial looks great! I had a polar Explorer II and I loved it but it didn't get the wrist time it deserved partly bc my Pelagos was taking up so much wrist time😂

    I absolutely love my LHD. The clasp alone I just flip the safety lock open and closed cause it’s so satisfying. Only things I would change is a little thinner, and a quick release for the bracelet would be awesome cause I constantly change out the bracelet with the rubber strap as it looks so good on both

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому +1

      Yesssss the clasp feel is insanely good! Idk if you watched my Zelos video but I have a actually have a specific section there talking about how quick release bracelets need to be the industry standard and that it is 100% the hill I will die on 😂
      It seriously makes life SOOOO much easier. Admittedly my Pelagos lives on the bracelet but there are so many watches that I want to switch back and forth. Most of the time I end up not wearing the watch bc I don't want to go through the whole process of messing with the bracelet. Such an easy fix for companies to make and it would be so welcome!

    I picked up a New Old Stock Pelagos ETA last Tuesday. Couldn't believe it when I seen it, thought it must have been preowned. But no! brand new from an AD that never sold it because people wanted the new in-house version. When I have been searching for a good ETA preowned version for the past 5 years, never mind brand new! So I'm delighted with the watch. Has to be the newest ETA Pelagos out there. Registered on the 25/5/2021 for its 5 year warranty not 2 which The ETA was originally released on!

    First off great review!
    I switched to a lhd Pelagos from my trusty Marathon GSAR because the tritium tubes have dimmed out almost completely after fifteen years of service.
    The Pelagos is now my everyday and I enjoy it most, looks and comfort wise, on the rubber strap.
    Although the bracelet is very innovative and comfortable, the sharp edge on the clapse could be better designed so that it doesn't scratch everything it comes into contact with. The rubber strap clapse has the same issue but it is not as sharp as the bracelet. Otherwise this watch is perfect.

    Really stuck between the blue pelagos and blue bb58. I briefly owned and loved the bb58 but the lack of micro adjustments annoyed me a bit- the only negative I had. The pelagos has always appealed to me since it’s release but the size worries me (I have 7in wrist) and now the price has gone up quite a bit.
    Thanks for your video- I still haven’t decided but good to see you love yours… I think I need to get one 😂

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому +1

      Ah yeah both are amazing but the potential negatives that you pointed out are definitely very real. I actually cant wear my blue bay on it's bracelet bc its just in between too tight and too loose! had they included just one additional micro adjustment hole or if they included half links it would have been a perfect fit. However it thankfully looks incredible on all kind of straps and natos
      Yeah I absolutely love my pelagos! I dont know if you have already tried it on or not but if you havent I would say definitely give it a go bc the titanium finish and the lightness of the watch overall does make it feel a bit more manageable. Also I feel like a tool watch of its nature looks ok if it is a touch big.
      In my case, I would choose the Pelagos over my blue bay in a heart beat bc the experience it offers is unlike anything else so I'm definitely biased over here!😂 (to the point that I'm going to be selling my blue bay!)

  • @Kbo513

    I love this watch, but the main issue I have with my black Pelagos is that when I swam with it recently in Florida and Hawaii - the bezel got stuck. I have to spend a few minutes rinsing the watch in warm water and prying the bezel to move again. This watch was purchased early this year and I keep it clean, but for divers watch’s bezel to get stuck while swimming on ocean waters I’m tempted to sell it after getting it serviced. I also swam with my BB58 Navy and that did not have this issue at all.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому

      hmmmm that does seem very weird! I personally dont have any experience with taking mine into saltwater (other than putting my 925 in salty-ish water for 20 mins) but is this the first time its happened to your Pelagos or has it happened multiple times? It could be an isolated event bc i do know that stuck bezels is a common occurrence amongst dive watches, depending on the circumstances, which can be remedied after a good rinse like you did.
      I guess it depends on how much you plan on swimming with the Pelagos because I would lean towards keeping it depending on how much you love it during all the other times its not in the ocean. (I happen to be very biased in favor of the Pelagos so take my words with a grain of salt😂)

    • @Kbo513
      @Kbo513 3 роки тому

      @@thewatchidiot It has happened twice now - when I dove/swam in Hawaii and swam in Florida. BB58 had no issues and I swam with a Submariner in Bahamas - no issues.
      I did a search in Google and it seems a lot of people have this issue with the Pelagos (Rolex Forums had a lot of discussions). I'll need to get it checked by my AD here in NYC and I'll need to test it again if it gets stuck. If it does persist, then Tudor's most toolish watch isn't really what it's marketed to be. I'm really hoping not though.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому +2

      Ah ok yeah that's not a good sign when it's brethren are doing just fine. And less of a good sign when others are reporting the same issues!
      Yeah by the sounds of it maybe the tolerances between the case and bezel are too tight for real world diving and it just needs to be loosened up by Tudor to let saltwater move around more freely and to give it more space to dry out without seizing up the whole thing.
      But that's sad to hear bc while it's true that the vast majority of dive watches never see water, they still need to be able to perform well when diving is asked of them!
      So it does make me happy to hear that you're actually using your divers for diving and swimming! I definitely want to learn how to dive in order to give my love of dive watches an actual purpose!

    That spring system is so awesome can you actually notice the difference or is it a marketing thing?

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому

      It is absolutely incredible I use it all the time! I keep it in the middle spot and if i go outside and my wrist expands a bit bc of the heat i simply expand one spot and then in the winter I usually move it to the smallest spot so that it keeps a good fit. I dont use the extra spring part much but when i do wear it over my gloves it makes a huge difference compared to other watches without a spring/stretch. It stays snug but I can move my wrist without feeling like its about to pop

    • @anthonystevens8683
      @anthonystevens8683 3 роки тому +1

      From my experience it works brilliantly, I use the 3 click spots usually but if I'm out and about in the cold the spring part is really handy to wear over a cuff if you don't want to lift your cuff to see the time which is great if your hands are full. The only clasp improvement that I can think of would be to be able to change the 'fixed' position to the sprung part without taking it of the wrist. I have no idea if it started as a marketing idea but this one really works in practice.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому +1

      Yes if there was some way to work the system without taking it off then it would truly be the most perfect clasp ever made. But even without that it's 99% perfect. It's a weirdly big part of the Pelagos wearing experience!

    Considering between the Blue and LHD. The Blue colour is amazing but under bright lighting the matt makes it look plastic to me. What do you think?

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому

      Hmmmm I love both of them and I'd love to have both of those additionally but my main issue with the blue was that it was just a bit too bold for me and that mostly came down to how the blue is quite saturated and the matte finish makes the blue stand out even more. So I guess I can see how the matte finish in this case can look a little flat.
      I'm obviously biased towards the black dial variants lol but i think you could probably see more of the dial texture on the black dial compared to the blue (take that with a grain of salt bc I don't have much experience with the blue dial). Also the extra fun details of the LHD like the roulette date wheel are exactly the type of tiny details that I absolutely love!
      All that being said and idk if you've already done this, but it would be incredibly helpful for you if you could see them both outside in natural light, or at the very least, not under the boutique lights. I know that this isn't always possible depending on where your AD is located and how well you know them but the lights in a boutique are absolutely terrible when it comes to trying to understand what a watch would look like in real life

    • @donaldneo4317
      @donaldneo4317 3 роки тому +1

      @@thewatchidiot Not able to bring out to natural light as my AD is located inside the mall. I looked at it under the AD's spotlight and the blue looks flat and plasticky if it makes sense. Looking at various photos of the blue online is the same. It look fantastic indoors but outdoors look flat. Its such a shame as the blue hue is great but I think its becos of the matt texture under bright lighting that makes it look flat IMO. I belong to the minority that thinks that way in forums...

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому

      Yeah I get what you're saying matte dials can definitely run the risk of looking flat and I think matte colored dials are more at risk bc I feel like most of us are used to what a matte black dial should look like.
      I think if you're feeling this way it would be safer to get an LHD if you really like that as well. By the sound of it the chances of you feeling buyer's remorse is pretty high with the blue dial. Or the other way to go about it is get a used one so that you won't have to worry about any depreciation or losing very much money. Or you could wear the watch exclusively indoors only😂😂

    Can you review the Seiko Sharp Edged GMT when it comes out in July? (It got a delayed release from May to July)
    $1300 for a "true" GMT from just Seiko is really cool and I would love your take on the piece.

      Thats a pretty awesome watch for sure, especially bc of the dials and the fact that it has a jumping hour hand! I love gmts so I would love to review it at some point. However, I dont think I'll have the budget for that so hopefully I'll be able to have it loaned to me from an AD at some point! (If you have a Seiko AD that you work with you can ask them to send my channel one for review if you'd like to do so! I've seen that work on some occasions 👍)

    I like the Pelagos and although my wrist is big enough to handle 42mm I to prefer 40mm. Tudor needs to release all their popular watches in 40mm iterations. The BB36 needs a 39mm version for starters and some 40mm Heritage divers will be spot on.

    I find the titanium used (Grade 2?) is a bit soft and prone to scratching. As the vast majority of users who own this watch are never likely to need the extreme corrosion resistance provided by grade 2 titanium, changing its case and bracelet to much harder wearing grade 5 would be a definite upgrade IMHO.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому

      Yeah that would have been an interesting switch for sure and it would be pretty cool to see how that would change the experience of the watch! I actually end up babying my watches despite me trying not to do so so actually the ability to scratch mine up more easily is quite a welcome feature for me weirdly enough😂

    The gen 1 is even nicer... (3 o'clock hour marker, 2 liner and the future collectible).
    The Pelagos needs a GMT version.
    The bezel is perfect with one flaw...it slightly overhangs the case making it possible to flip/break off the watch due to the Heisenberg principle...(as it did on mine...see video)... something many other watches do not have.
    The Pelagos also has often not mentioned 5 Rolex/Tudor firsts...
    Mine is 8 years old...still running fine.

    • @thewatchidiot

      Yeah the ETA version is a great watch for sure but the 70 hour power reserve is extremely helpful for me and yeah we absolutely need a GMT asap! Great review. I love my Pelagos for the reasons that you described. I only wish that you also add on to the watch review how the Pelagos wear with the oem rubber strap? I never liked the rubber strap because it feels like it cheapens the watch. What are your thoughts?

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому +1

      Awesome it's always nice to hear from fellow Pelagos owners!! So that's a good point I always forget that the rubber strap exists, and it's actually for a reason.
      So I absolutely love rubber straps if they're done right. Some can definitely look cheap if it's very simple and plain. My favorite rubber strap is tapered and it has a very subtle pattern (I have a link to it in the description of you'd like to see it)
      So as a big fan of rubber strap I was naturally super excited for the rubber strap that came with the Pelagos especially bc its worn with the endlinks. The style and look of it is great BUT it's unbelievably uncomfortable (at least on my wrist). The problem is that that the top ends of the straps are thicker at the top and then then thin out lower down. This makes the strap extremely inflexible with no hope of breaking it in like leather. This leads to my wrist bone being pinched which is awful.
      So yeah a huge missed opportunity for sure although the strap could work fine for those who don't mind the inflexibility or who maybe have smaller wrists that wouldn't get pinched in as much. So after trying it on once after getting it almost 4 years ago, it's stayed in the box never to be seen again which is why I completely forgot to even mention it in the video😂 I'm just glad that the bracelet is beyond incredible so I'm not missing the strap at all!

    Great review. What do you think of the new Tudor Black Bay Ceramic? 41mm so not quite 40. Ceramic is light and scratch resistant. Strap rather than a bracelet and at least it is a deployment clasp and not buckle and pin. COSC and METAS certified movement. Off white hour markers and hands. The bezel is ceramic, no lume and not legible in low light, so not really a dive watch. How do you think it compares to the Pelagos and which would you get today?

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  3 роки тому

      Thanks!! I personally like the BB Ceramic a lot, black cases work on a lot of watches but the problem for me was potentially scratching off the coating so ceramic just makes everything worry free. I do wish that they would have either filled the bezel markers with lume or even with just off white paint. To me there's not enough contrast on the watch alongside the white indices. The movement looks awesome and METAS certification is the cherry on top for sure.
      So compared to the Pelagos I think it's pretty cool bc of the use of ceramic however for me I don't think there's a single diver out there that I would sell my Pelagos for for all the reasons in the video, it's just too good and a step above the ceramic. Although I would have loved to buy the ceramic one if the bezel had visible markers and most importantly if I had the money😂😂

    Blue or black for the Pelagos? Blue too loud? What do you think? Can you remove scratches from Titanium like you do with you Steel watches? What about the accuracy? Why don't you show the date change and the back of the case? These small points leaves the review unfinished.

    • @thewatchidiot

      I personally like the black dial more because I like the ultra monochromatic look of it, and although the blue dial is cool it is much louder for sure. Also this video is a loves and hates video and not really a full review so I only talked about the main things I love about my pelagos!

Well the name Pelagos is in red so it looks like there is a little less text on the dial , the slight yellow of the lume plots allows the watch to 'shrink' just a little and I like the roulette wheel date. One note worth taking is that the LHD's are engraved numbered across the case back (not limited edition) so if you are looking at engraving the back the RHD would be the better option. Either way they are both great IMHO.
