Just some observations and thoughts on a recently released board game from Ravensberger- Disney's Villainous, and why it needs Gaston like right now c'moooon
Think you've seen this video before? All is revealed at 7:46
Crash Bandicoot in Smash Bros?
What an absolute unit
Do a video on Phineas and Ferb. Pretty please?
Now I'm waiting for the Xehanort supplementary package. His "personal table" is actually a whole Monopoly board.
"What's your pLan?"
"Well first, we need to enact some body possession. And then make some copies of myself. Then we'll throw in some time-travel. And why not some Inception stuff for fun? Wait, where are you going! Come back! X-BLADE!!!!!"
It's all about getting the "nort a boy" card.
I'd much prefer a more simple Riku/Ansem deck, have it be a cross between Hera and Ratigan with the simple goal of opening the Door to Darkness.
@@aidanklobuchar1798 it could technically work if his plan was “get 12 people on my side for the clash to get the Xblade“, with the twist being only having a few allies he can get through his own deck, while getting the rest by taking over other villians heroes
*whistles casually having played the fanmade Ansem board*
Once again I am reminded that I am the only person on earth who genuinely likes bowler hat guy.
You poor soul
Goop deserved better
I like him too :/
Saw this comment, had to say I love him too. And whaddya know, I have that Dedede picture saved on my phone. Glad to know there’s someone else out there.
You’ve summoned bowler hat guy stans everywhere. Thank you
Disney: Since the Marvel Villains are in the same universe, they share the heroes.
Mickey's House of Mouse TV show: Excuse me!
12:51
"We'll have six or seven"
"Dogs?"
"No Belle, GASTONS!"
I absolutely LOVE Villainous and there's now even an online competitive scene for it which has brought this game to a whole other level of awesomeness 🙌
Please link!
Seconded!

Personally, I'd be all for an expansion pack based on Disney cartoon shows like Gravity Falls and Phineas and Ferb. It'd be fun to play as Dr Drakken, Dr Doofenshmirtz, Bill Cipher and other villains from Disney's TV lineup.
I know I’m late, but there actually is a homebrewing community of people making custom villains, and Bill Cipher & Dr. Doofenshmirtz have been made. I’ve even seen some people make custom mover pieces for them and sell them on Etsy! (They’re also included in the Complete Villainous game by notmydance on the TableTop Simulator Workshop)
I swear every five seconds of watching this video my friend and I were going "ooh that's neat". Then we started discussing what a Gaston deck would entail (put Maurice in the asylum, gather a mob, etc) and I have to admit he probably had the funnier idea of "collect enough lines to sing the Gaston song for a bonus".
gaston is coming February 28th
Ayyyyyy I made it in the vid
You legit made this vid better, and my experience with the game better, so thank you!
this should be PINNED!
I LOVE this game, the problem is it suffers from "Friends saying it looks too complicated" syndrome.
B-mask's reason for making this video:
Give me new F(r)iends to play with
If doc facilier is your favorite, you should do a video on princess and the frog.
Casual doesn't grok Facillier. Bet he plays with 5 cards too.
I still wanna play as him
If they add Flintheart Glomgold or Magica deSpell I'll buy it
That would be so cool! While I'd be cool with using the reboot, I'd rather them do their classic comic designs, similar to what they did with Pete.
@@thekrakenexperiment280 Yeah, Barks/Rosa canon only. That or 80's Ducktales which is close enough.
@@JarJarBinks4ever the reboot respects Barks (and Rosa) very much!
There’s a custom homebrew villain of Glomgold out there (mainly for digital play in Tabletop Simulator, but there’s nothing stopping you from finding the files they use and printing them out yourself!)
I only just found out about this game but I 100% agree that Rourke, Frollo and Gaston need to be in it.
i am earnestly surprised Gaston and Frollo are not considering they are part of the golden age disney movies.
They are adding gaston in the upcoming expansion
@@Zach3423 yup it is Gaston, Lady Tremaine and The Horned King XD
In the meantime, Gaston is in and he's awesome and easy to win with 😎 Frollo is on my wishlist, too.
Hunchback of Notre Dame has basically become the Mother 3 of Disney film history lol
It didn't come with Gaston at launch? Gross! Can't wait to see what you've got to say :)
Well he's coming soon
He is out now
What surprised me is that the starter pack basically has the 6 most marketable Disney villains, but instead of Scar we got Prince John.
2:32 Well guess what? Horned King is a playable villain in the upcoming expansion "Despicable Plots"
Finally Gaston is coming in the next expansion. Despicable plots!
I was hoping you’d do more board game videos! Technically, this counts!
Jeez those cards are super pretty. I would probably consider getting this for its aesthetics alone, but I'm not that into Disney anymore. And no Gaston??? Inexcusable.
I never know what to expect from this channel, but I love the enthusiasm no matter what the subject is.
Speaking of Disney villains, I was curious if you've heard of a little Japan-exclusive gacha game called Twisted Wonderland.
Gameplay isn't the deepest thing, but the character designs and story are a hoot. Mostly thanks to those elements being done by Yana Toboso. You can tell she has an appreciation for the classic Disney villains while still trying her own thing out.
The bowler hat guy wasn’t the villain of Meet the Robinsons. The hat was. It’d be interesting to see it in the game with a take over mechanic, where you can control other characters to get them to do your bidding, like it does in the film.
One of the best board game reviews I have seen and as a big fan of villainous, it's nice to see someone who shares the same positive views. I actually think you should do some more content relevant board game reviews :)
Don't worry, Gaston, Lady Tremaine, and The Horned King will be in the next expansion called Despicable Plots.
When B-Mask talks about a random Disney board game
Why is your tablecloth made out of paper towels
0:12 Bummer... Board games is a great but incredibly niche topic to talk about. Out of all channels that talk about this topic, Cinemassacre’s Board James is the only one I had some investment in (as a viewer). Unfortunately, he stopped the series long ago...
Shut up and Sit down is one i tend to go to for Board game reviews.
I WAS going to make a constructive comment about the strengths and weaknesses of the game but I absolutely lost it at the Gaston joke.
Dreams do come true! You wanted Gaston? YOU GOT GASTON, BABY!!! Despicable Plots, available Feb 28th ^_^
I can not wait for the movie adaptation (that will probably never happen, but I still can dream)
also glad that this video is back
Damnit B- Mask! Why you showing me cool things that I can't afford!
More like: why are you showing us cool things that aren't available anywhere
That's it, now I want Bowler Hat Guy in, mostly because you said you didn't.
You brought this upon yourself.
I have to know, has B played Lorcana?
What about Negaduck, David Xanatos, and Bill Cipher.
I think what I love most about Villainous is how it's pretty much a modern fighting game in table top form. Playing this I immediately recall my experiences with games like Killer Instinct 2013, Skullgirls and hell even Smash Bros, games with playable characters that have very specific tool kits and utility, each a unique means of achieving victory. And sure enough with its focus on villain personality and quirks this table top game ends up scratching that fighting game itch.
1:52 - Also holy shit I think I just reached enlightenment from that one joke XDXDXDXDXD
This wasn’t expected at all, and I love it!
I’ve been playing the game for a long while now and making customs for it; and I agree with every positive and negative aspect made.
Bowler Hat Guy could actually be a unique objective having to go between the past and the future to ensure the Hat rules the world
What if Dorris was the villain and her objective was manipulating Blower Hat Guy to get to her goal.
7:19 Lol, that's the exact effect this game had on me. Normally I'd ignore board games that would take more than 5 minutes to figure out but now I'm playing stuff like Root, Everdell, or Gloomhaven.
why are you playing on a giant downy paper towel
You shouldnt be able to give me such cursed information. Im going to be put in a home now.
If you think this games is difficult and complex you should check Robinson Crusoe
Hahahaha if only you knew that the Horned king came out in Feb 2021.
2:38 - Horned King has just been released and guess who's in his fate deck...
I'm a board game geek and I thought your review was awesome. Thanks!
I saw this in a nerd store once and began crying. Not because I couldn't afford it, but because all of my friends that I can play it with don't live close enough to do so.
You technically CAN have more than 4 cards in hand, you just start with 4 and at end step only draw up to 4 if you have less than 4. Jafar's Scarab Pendant notwithstanding.
Welp. Guess I'm buying this for my family on Christmas, thanks B.
Was curious about the game before watching your video. Afterwards, couldn't wait to try it out. My sister got me the base game for Christmas and I getting an expansion today. A great piece of villain-based media that is actually about the villian. Not to mention one of if not the only way we'll ever be able to play as the villian in a Disney game.
Thankfully the newer ones of the normal villainous sets (not the marvel ones) have been getting a lot more clean and concise while still adding new twists to keep all the character options interesting and unique from one another.
*Deja vu*
Holy hell that is the most stylish and mechanically innovative board game I think I've ever seen. I am absolutely sold
As a minor board game nerd I have heard Villainous mentioned (mostly good press when it first came out and then nothing) but this is the first time I have ever been interested in it.
I think the negative view by the hardcore comes more from the fact the game is just old enough to have been played to death and the honeymoon has soured for those who were too enthused. It happens a lot in the board game community.
Pretty enlightening perspective, thanks! I can definitely see why and how that would be the case from a couple of the posts I saw.
As someone that plays a lot of card/board games, I felt this game wasn't complex enough to be interesting and waaay too complex for what it was. I love the aesthetic and idea, but man.... it really fell flat for me.
Scar's goal is literally just mass murder, and I love him for it
We didn’t ask for this
Imagine how complicated it would be if they made an Xehanort board
Great vid. Glad I already watched it.
Perfect timing! this will make an amazing gift for my GF!
So this is a board game with a sizable roster of characters featuring different play styles, win conditions, and goals leading to tier-picking and meta gaming? This is a competitive board game. If this were an online game, the rules could be solidified or almost automatic, and they could create balance patches and other modes of play. If I were Disney I would think about recouping sales from this game and not wasting the creativity by maybe making an Among Us/TTT/Hearthstone-Esque online adaptation as a free-to-play Disney + game/ad.
Also, really? Bowler Hat guy is Doris's henchman, cool your jets.
@@HawkReynolds why not hate both thinkemoji.jpg
Will you cover the Sam and Max Season 1 Remaster?
I might mention it in passing, and am playing it casually, but I won't do a full video as I don't have anything to say other than 'it looks great and there's a few changes, but it's the exact same game I already liked.'
A digital version of the game could help with the rules since the game would know how it's supposed to be played.
I've been eyeing this game for a year now and seeing this video makes me want it even more.
Just to set the record straight, some of us choose to remember Gurgi.
Lmao I am very sure the record holder is looking at you and nodding thoughtfully about your plight
Guess what - they added Horned King *and* Gurgi! Check out Despicable Plots!
Whoa whoa whoa. Wait... Up to 4 players??? I've been playing with 6 people....
'just to eliminate the need for a horned king deck'
*despicable plots expansion has entered the chat*
Edgar Balthazar, The Phantom Blot, The Coachman/Honest John & Gideon please
Hopefully they will continue to expand this game, not just with classic Animated Disney villains, but also with villains from other Disney content; such as Live-Action villains (E.g. CLU 2.0 from Tron Legacy and Lord Cutler Beckett from PotC), Villains from the Pixar movies (e.g. Syndrome from The Incredibles and AUTO From Wall-E), and hell even villains from the Disney videogames (e.g. Xehanort from Kingdom Hearts).
Thankfully this game's already got a decent Homebrew community forming, trying out these character ideas and more.
*Cruella de Vil objective: Defeat all 101 Dalmations one by one!*
Cruella de Vil: *screaming*
9:56 oops, well, i suppose thats more reasonable...
Just played as Lady Tremane against Horned King, Gaston, Gaston, and Gaston. I really enjoy how Tremane played, even though I lost.
So, i wonder how long it will take to get packs based on villains from popular Disney cartoon shows like Dr. Darkken, Doofenshmirtz, Emperor Belos, and if that happens, what their respective gimmicks would be.
I'd like to see an expansion pack with the MCP from "Tron", or Clu from "Tron: Legacy". Either one.
I thought I would come back and mention I bought this based purley on this video. My GF loved it and we play it regually. Thanks!
I noticed that Maui Mallard music near the end. What are the chances that we get a retrospective on games that feature Donald Duck's Hero Personas? PK Out of the Shadows, Cold Shadow, Quack Shot, etc?
What I love about Villainous is that it allows me to choose my level of complexity. Not difficulty, necessarily, but some of the villain choices have much more moving parts and special rules than others do. Many of my friends have more experience with complicated board games than I do, and they can enjoy getting into the nitty-gritty of those characters while I avoid them and play the more straightforward ones, and we all play the same game. That's a really special thing
The twist in the middle where we find out I've already seen this video blew my mind
Dunno if you saw this, but someone mocked up what Clockwerk would play like in Villainous. It’s got some pretty neat ideas. You can even print out the cards and play it yourself if you have the proper materials.
The more reviews I watch for this game the dumber I feel. I have read the instructions numerous times and watched several “How to” videos. I just don’t get it. My youngest son got it as a gift and we tried playing it was a family. At one point, we just sat there and he told us what to do. My oldest outsmarted all of us by taking the easiest character, King John, and showing no interest. We left him alone, he completed his task and won the game. Haven’t touched it since.
Visually it’s a beautiful game and it has an interesting concept, I just can’t figure it out.
This is very good might buy tabletop sim and tabletop playground (some friends play one and some play the other) and play this with my online friends
EDIT: Just watched the entire video and thought of a fun way to play this. The crossover ruleset AKA The Disney Infinity ruleset. Basically, you take both the Disney and the Marvel sets and play with them at the same time including the rules that would normally only be used when playing one and not the other like taking other characters on boards that are not their own.
I know you said not to expect more board game videos but the joke at 1:52 makes me curious how you'd feel about the official board game version of Almost Got Him, which is a mix of poker and character roleplay where the real objective is to find which player is the hidden Batman for that game.
I just enjoy you saying that you liked having the black cauldron being the thing to put all the power in in order to eliminate a potential of having a Horned King deck. Despicable Plots is out now and Gaston. Lady Tremaine and you guessed it the Horned King are all playable characters now. It just made me laugh after realising that it is now a thing. :)
i would love to see more videos about board games because i think it could be interesting but this video really was mostly based on how the game mimics the character's movie arcs. never the less, I urge you to check out a game named "Red Dragon Inn" it is pretty much the exact same concept even having similar character board designs but the characters are classical fantasy archetypes instead of anything preestablished and the game design is REALLY tight making for a fairly balanced and consistently hectic and laugh-inducing experience that relies on communication and has TONS of different characters with their own creative game mechanics, the endpoint is more uniform tho being to make the other players either go broke or have their intoxication and vitality counters meet in the middle although there are some unique win conditions among the expansion sets. it's great fun (and if you own Tabletop Simulator on steam, the game along with ALL expansion sets are free through the workshop)
In case you weren't aware, the game was designed with careful attention to detail in gameplay by taking complex strategy from Trading Card Games like Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. There's also a new expansion coming out at the end of February here in the States containing The Horned King, Lady Tremaine, and everyone's most requested villain for this game Gaston.
I'm hoping for Star Wars and actual Marvel(though I doubt that they will do that one)
Also, what do you have against the Bowler Hat Guy ?
Oh wow. I'm surprised they hadn't made a deck for Frozen, Tangled, or Zootopia yet. You'd think they be in the first or second box or something.
Tangled has its own deck, as can be seen briefly around 05:20 in the video. And my guess why Zootopia, and especially Frozen, haven't been turned into decks is the 'twist' nature of their villains.
Ok i get it you want gaston in there.
"Gaston" is code for "Bowler Hat Guy"
Hey, you called a few of the new Villains!
Also, I agree Dr. Facilier is The Best and Madam Mim is Cool.
As a massive tabletop fan, villainous surprised me. I’m a huge Disney fan but I’ve been hesitant of the potential for a true board game based on this way because of what you were saying with Disney’s track record of simplistic kid games. This game has so much depth and feels like a true card game with layers of strategy. Seeing this have somewhat of a competitive scene is when this clicked that not only am I having a blast with this game, but it does have an element to where I have brought this over to play with friends who are big into tcg’s and other games and they too have loved it. Even after we’re done playing we created a tier list with reasonings as to who our mains are and different state they options for not only play the different characters, but also how to fate opponents effectively. Since villainous Disney has made other games such as the haunted mansion one as well as a big thunder mountain game and both are also very fun.
It's the same - but twice!
7 views and 9 likes. I see i'm not the only one trusting the brand here
Personally I’d categorize this under “things I didn’t ask for, nor did I know I wanted.”
One thing i love about games like this where there are a ton of playable characters but there are still basic roles is making up you're own idea for character sets, heck i have a ton from media i enjoy, none of which is Disney, but i feel like it'd still be cool to make decks of. Spamton is yes, a massive meme character, but the way both of his plans fold out in their of the routes in the game he's one could very easily be made into a deck for this game, not to mention how Flowey could also work for this, but to be fair i only use those examples first cause idk how many of the other characters who could fit this i like y'all would actually know about
Gaston.
B-mask says he doesn't what honred king because of gugy well I have bad news the new expansion has gugy.
neat
My friends and I have been playing this a lot over quarantine through Tabletop Simulator, and surprisingly, whoever made the workshop mod of Villainous added a bunch of custom villains, including every one of them that you wanted added
Uh, music from Maui mallard? great taste.
Recently rediscovered the game- and it's absolutely wonderful
@@BMask Yeah. it's an underrated SNES/Genesis/PC Disney game. For some reason, they created an alter ego for Donald and that game was its only appearance at that, for some weird reason. Music and animation was over the top, the quality you expect from a Disney production. So there it is.
I love to get my hands on this game... but the downside of it being on which friends in my group to play it with
Hey, they’re adding Madam Mim! With Pixar Villains!
Does it really count as a board game video if you don't use the word "ludonarrative"?
i love this game! got it last christmas and i've been playing a shitton of it ever since. but also i'm glad that i never touched the marvel box lol
