Imagine this game doing well and inspiring other platforming brands to ditch the remakeitis. A new Jak and Daxter or Sypro would be dope as fuck. Getting my hopes up would be a bad idea though.
I can't see Naughty Dog making that new Jak & Daxter if it does get made though. They seem like they're above the concept of "fun" at this point and would rather just make us all feel bad.

I'd agree to get diddled by old men if they'd get someone to do a Jak & Daxter remake. But I wouldn't be willing to play remakes of the second and third game to get diddled by old men. Those never did feel as good as the first one, clunky as it was. I did play them, but they lost the charm of the first, unlike diddling.

I've waited for this game since they confirmed that Crash was back and they were doing remakes. All I could think was "that's neat, but what I really want is a sequel"
Ever since I saw the art style I’ve been waiting for a video from you on it! A big thing I’d want from Spyro 4 is a more connected world and story. Unlike Crash, each Spyro game more or less forgot the game that came before. Aside from Hunter and Zoe being consistent between 2 and 3, you had the dragons and dragon worlds being gone from 2 and Elora and the Professor almost appearing as only an afterthought in 3. I want Spyro 4 to use the toolbox of characters it has as opposed to adding too many new faces. What if Sgt Byrd has settled into the Dragon Worlds and is training some Peacekeepers? What if the dragons actually play a role in the story now that they don’t need to be saved, maybe appearing as NPCs in some levels? Stuff like that.
I'm still holding on hope, that they'll get to remake Medievil 2 and then move on to a new Medievil game. I actually forgot a new Ratchet & Clank game was a thing, I played the last one and wasn't that impressed. Crash 4 though, feels good man.
Honestly, Crash 4 and Oddworld Soulstorm are looking great because they're actually breathing new life into their old properties. Rift Apart looks cool, but is still more of the same, leaving old fans behind for this new direction the franchise has been obsessed with for years, I just hope that they execute it well this time.
Soulstorm is a remake though. Or I guess more so a reimagining because they’re redoing the entire series besides strangers to create the new quintology
@@bigpenny8223 Yes, but they're still going for a change in both gameplay and tone. The stories in the franchise have always been dark, but Soulstorm seems to be delving somewhere darker. As for the gameplay, it seems like they've kept Abe's gameplay familiar, yet have added more layers of complexity and new mechanics. Whereas Ratchet hasn't really changed all that much and has just been kinda existing, sequel after sequel, never doing anything bold. Crash could be interpreted the same way, but considering how many spin-offs that franchise has had, I think its appropriate that its next game feels like a soft reboot.
Übermensch61 I don’t think we’ve really seen enough of soulstorms gameplay is saying anything and I’d also say soulstorm seems just as dark as the rest of the series and the only area it’s more dark and dirtied up is In the visuals having the character models be far more grotesque but like I don’t think you can go much darker then sewing an entire races eyes shut so they can mine their own species graveyards for their bones and then having freed members of those species becoming addicted to the drink made from said bones. Or a whole race of fish being driven to near extinction minus 1.
Let’s hope Activision actually bothers with a PC port for this game. Yes, N Sane and Reignited both got PC ports, but not only were both ports very bare-bones, but Activision have outright stated that they aren’t bringing CTR NF to PC, and I’m not even sure if they’ll bother with Crash 4
We still might get Crash 4 on PC. I think the only reason they were so afraid to shove CTR onto PC was because they feared hackers and modders would just bypass their microtransaction BS and slow ass grind for coins.
Man, it's tough really loving the English dub of the Digimon Movie, especially when I don't really love it and have to keep adding asterisks like "ignore Angela Anaconda" and "ignore the entire second half of the movie."
I feel like the distinction has to be made between the Ratchet reboot and the shift in tonality that came with the Future games. Because Rift Apart *does* continue the tone and continuity of the Future Saga, clearly not the reboot. And I dunno, I kinda feel like conflating the two as B-Mask does is a bit disingenuous? If you don't like the vibe of the Future games, that's cool. For what it's worth I think the PS2 entries were smarter and more biting as well, but I think the direction they took it with the Future games was a valid one and if that's what they want Ratchet to be now, I'm fine with that. I guess tl;dr, Future Saga =/= Reboot Ratchet and Rift Apart is clearly more the former than the latter. Also obligatory WHEN SLY 4? EDIT: Just an observation but I find it weird B-Mask is so accommodating to fans of the Post-Warped Crash games but not to people who genuinely like the Ratchet Future games despite them being FAR better received. I dunno, just weird.
I think it's actually a great misdirection to separate the two. For a while Insomniac tried to back-peddle most of the blame of the movie's issues onto the new team that was attached to them, and TJ Fixman was particularly vocal in denying that his total control of the story would have allowed it to take that shape- but the fact of the matter is that the movie is a product of what the Future series had done to Ratchet. It went out of its way to retcon many elements of the past to bring them up to code, and judging by the leaked bits of script I saw for the Fixman plan, we were not getting anything better had they pressed on with their take. All poisonous fruits of the same tree. I think the most damning thing is comparing the evolving art style of the future series to the PS5 game's trailer. I was actually really into what Creaturebox were doing as the games went on, and by Into the Nexus they'd carved themselves a great style that was incredibly fun to look at and see move. Rift Apart's SO much closer to the movie's more ultra detailed, standardised style than the later Future series games, and I think it's to a massive detriment, pushes closer to Cameron's Avatar than it does Ratchet. In that regard, the new game screams the movie's direction far more than the future direction, which fundamentally isn't separated enough in its approach to truly get into. I'm more accommodating of the later Crash games because I see the value. Each has something I think Crash 4 benefits from, and looking into their histories you see a bunch of small teams with different ideas that have had a positive impact on the series in spite of the cold hard numbers they spun in sales and review scores. Insomniac's later ratchets all feel like they're just going through the motions, each game losing a piece of what made it special initially, and from my interaction with the fans who still buy them, they would eat the next ratchet game up if it was a cardboard box with clank crudely painted on the top, so I know first hand that Insomniac is validated in not feeling like they have to try anything new. I'm not against people wanting to play them, but i'm not gonna come out and say 'well audience and review scores are good so I guess more power to em.' It's a series I liked, I have a preferred direction, i'd be lying if I didn't vocalise that. Best thing I can do is mention it in this video and walk away for good.
Yeah, he goes about not making assumptions or big speculations about Crash 4 but then criticizes Rift Apart because he aparently "can tell" it's like the movie inspired reboot.

@@BMask I think that's applying a bit of retroactive reasoning to things. It's very easy to look at the movie and it's accompanying game and then look back at the Future games and go "ah, it was going in this direction all along!" and like, to an extent that's true but I think the degree matters. The future games were a different take, but I think a respectable one. Plus I think Deadlocked was kind of the logical end point of the themes the old games had so what else does one do, either end things for good or find a new direction. Maybe the former would've been the move that had more artistic integrity, but I don't fault them for trying new things. Which is basically the same situation Crash found itself in post-Warped, the only difference seems to be how much you personally like the results. If the Future Saga and the reboot are both things you dislike, that's entirely fair and I understand why. But acting like they're the exact same thing is just going a stretch too far. There's a reason people generally like the former and not as much the latter. That obviously depends on who you're talking to, but I think that's a fair enough consensus. Not disputing your opinion, I just think "Future Saga and reboot are the same direction" goes beyond being an opinion into being straight up misinformation.

You have to remember, i've been following the series with everyone else as things moved forward, and I'm not saying 'oh, it was always planned this way', I'm saying 'it doesn't surprise me that we came to this point', this is a continuation of how I've always felt. Respectable take and trying new things is also debatable. My feeling has always been that Ratchet essentially became the same game several times over, stuffed with a bunch of ideas we'd seen elsewhere, and better. People are all welcome to say the sky is green, but it doesn't change my feeling that this isn't true and saying so. The movie game feels VERY similar to what I didn't like about the Future series, and you saying it doesn't seem so doesn't really sway me, given i've experienced them all myself. I'm also seeing a misrepresentation of what I must think. Seeing the value is not the same as saying I liked everything that happened to Crash post warped. I think WOC, CNK and Titans are awful, but I see things in them I think are valuable, and i'm here to discuss that in relation to crash 4. Either way, I don't think it's really much of an issue that I like one and say so and don't like another and say so. I dunno lmao you say you don't want to dispute my opinion but you also want to say that thing I've openly said is my opinion is misinformation, I can't do anything with that.

loved this, really excited for the game as well! As someone who never played the original Crash games- just the remake and I hated it- this looks a lot more likable. Ratchet is pretty much doing the same thing tho. The PS4 game is like the PS2 Crash games. Rift Apart is continuing the story where it left off in 2013 while also happening to make a lot of callbacks since the "reboot" gained a lot of new fans. So basically the same but the Ratchet "spin-off" was a lot more recent and the next game needs to play off of that more appropriately. I think both will be fantastic and extremely satisfying to fans. Especially Ratchet, at least from a story perspective.
I think remakes are supposed to be both a risk-check for a series being rebooted/made a sequel, and also a solution for the lack of backwards compatibility in modern consoles
I like that we've finally broken away from the N.Sane style and we get to see something new and weird again. I really don't get why people want to stay in the NST prison forever. That game already looks dated and the style of it was really tone-deaf comparing it to all canon Crash games. The only thing I'm worried TFB could fuck up apart from the gameplay is the post-ND canon. I don't want Twinsanity banished into an "alternate dimension" where it's still canon but not really
Whenever we talk about these PS2 platformer remakes/revivals I have the same two thoughts: A. I will not forgive what was done to my prickly Lombax buddy, and do not recognize this overly shiny pretender and B. When the nostalgia wave eventually wets the feet of the Sly Cooper franchise, I’ll be curious to see how Thieves in Time will be handled. Does it get the non canon treatment? I think that wondering just stems from my general feeling that there’s not much to go back to with Sly Cooper. It was such a character focused series anyway, and the characters completed their arcs in 3. We got the taking of the sequel hook 3 left dangling in 4 and we all know how that turned out. What left is there for Sly and the Gang to do? Idk, I’m sure we’ll get an overly polished Illumination Studios-looking remaster in a couple years and I’ll be too busy being annoyed to care about the future anyway.
See, I agree and disagree regarding Sly. Yes, the arcs were completed in 3, it didn't need to continue, but that doesn't mean there isn't more that could be done, if handled with care. The problem with 4 wasn't that it followed up on the sequel hooks left in 3, it's that it did so badly. Sly 3 left the franchise in a tricky situation, but honestly I think Sly 4's plot would have served it pretty well, if the writing were more competent. Seeing Sly's ancestors would be a good way of exploring the theme of legacy further. How did they respond to/treat the Cooper legacy? What about them became part of the canon, and what was lost to time? Sanzaru sort of claimed they were going to tackle that, but they really didn't give interesting answers to those questions, because despite the lip service, it doesn't feel like they really considered them. Frick, even Riochi cannibalizing his never-before-referenced partner is treated as a throw-away gag, when an event like that should be core to the character. Le Paradox's basic backstory of "son of a screwed-over thief who clawed his way to greatness" is a perfect setup for an evil Sly situation, which of course means at least some exploration of who Sly's character is. What does it mean to be "Sly but evil"? What is it that makes one adrenaline-junkie thief who lost his father and built up a gang of master criminals to perform the biggest heist of their lives the villain, and the other not? And his plot to steal the Cooper's legacy itself practically begs for Paradox to throw Sly's old mantra back in his face: "don't you get it? there's no fun in stealing from ordinary people, but to steal from the best of the best? Then you know you're a master thief". Even smaller things could have been interesting: Ok, so Grizz is just a Dimitri-clone who has found a way to make the world love his art, by turning it into cultural heritage sites. How does Dimitri react to that, to seeing someone much like his younger self accomplish what he wanted at that time better than he ever could have? And that's not even getting into Sly and Carmelita's relationship, which is a thorny problem but not impossible. They both lied to each other, they both love each other. It just needs to be handled with more adult nuance than "Sly gets back into thievery because he's bored and then Carmelita sleeps around with all his ancestors to make him jealous", which just ruins both of their characters.
the main problem is even with sequel hooks in 3 it still had an ending that could finish the series 4 doesn't it has a cliff hanger that will never be followed up on. if they made a remake 4 still has that cliff hanger and maybe it would just be better to write it off as a trilogy instead
I think Remakes are good for one thing and that's helping people understand how to make a game and how a franchise was built so in case of Crash 4 it's being made by people who basically understand they previous games more than most other people. Yes, remakes can be shallow and not really all there but so is everything else in a way. It's kinda like copying a painting/illustration to understand what techniques the original artist used to be a better artist in a way.
I'm actually pretty excited for this release (though granted I've never been affiliated with this franchise before the big boom in popularity couple of months before the remakes).
I'm excited for Crash 4 and remain hopefully optimistic that it'll be good. It doesn't have to be great. Just something new and good. As for RaC, I'm more intrigued than excited though that's mainly when it comes to the story department and my love for alternate dimension stories. From what little hints their releasing it's painting the picture that the Nefarious we're going to see isn't /our/ Nefarious but an alternate one that never lost back in Up Your Arsenal which will be very fascinating to see if the hints are indeed correct.
As happy as I am about the prospect of a Spyro 4 I can't help but worry a little that, with Crash 4 being given to Toys For Bob, Spyro 4 is going to be given to Vicarious Visions in what feels like the worst of the two options. Comparing both of their works on Skylanders, Toys For Bob felt like they made the better games and given the stark differences in style between N'Sane and Reignited/Crash 4, I'd be a shame to hand Spyro over to the team that made the former.
Worse. VV is currently working on the Tony Hawk remake which leaves either Beenox or Sanzaru for Spyro 4. Get ready for Spyro 4: Thieves in Time! With 4x the cringe.
I try not to get too excited over new games these days because I think hype can inadvertently raise your standards and if the game fails to meet those high standards, it can feel all the more underwhelming but I cannot lie, I'm actually EXCITED for Crash Bandicoot 4: It's ABout Time. Even if the game doesn't meet all my expectations, the fact that we're actualyl getting a BRAND NEW Crash game and it seems like the Developers actually did their homework on what made the original trilogy Crash games what they were is very promising and invigorating. I agree, the art style is looking amazing while building on the original cartoony style but polishing it and adding more zaniness to the character's expression. I also agree that the music from what they've shown isn't doing anything for myself neither but hey, maybe the other songs will be good. All I know is that I'm already sold on the presentation and I haven't even played the game yet lol. Indeed if this works out then we can safely say that Crash Bandicoot is finally in safe hands with a development team that knows what Crash Bandicoot is all about. As far as remakes go, while I liked N Sane Trilogy despite the inconsistent art design and I'm enjoying the Spyro Reignited Trilogy from what I've played so far, my opinion mirrored yours that I'd rather see something new now and I'm glad that they didn't go through with remaking Wrath of Cortex like the rumors were suggesting at the time. We need new games. Remakes are fine but not to the point where they are becomign a standard because all that does is it creates burnout and boredom, the "wow" factor is just not there anymore when you overdo it. I'm open to seeing a Crash Bash remake for sure but only after a new Crash game which is what we're getting. Also your little crack towards Ratchet and Clank, as big of a fan as I am of that series, I have to admit that I'm one of the people who does prefer the old style of the series as well. I've come around to appreciating the Future timeline but the classic games will always be special to me. So fair play on that haha.
I found most of the models in the N. Sane Trilogy pretty good. I'm not the hugest fan of Crash 4's artstyle, I think it's a little too stylised, but it's completely fine too, and they can look really good sometimes.
5:00 i'd say regarding sonic the reason its splits is because they took the wrong lessons from failing and listening to the wrong people their mentality was to throw everything away instead of use what they had in potential like sonic adventure 2 and try working with it but unfortunately because of sonic 06 being the way it was using they fear being ambitious every again so its resulted in throwing everything away that had potential and deciding to pander to a crowed that never cared for sonic to begin with ur pal shaymay doesn't properly delve into it as u would believe.
I want this game to be good because as has been mentioned more than once this could be a way to further revitalize the mascot platformer. Even if I myself don’t have that strong of a connection to Crash. As for Ratchet I have hopes for it because I loved Spider-Man with all my heart.

I think it says a lot, though maybe just a lot about me instead of general interest, that I’ve known about Crash 4 since they announced it and this video was the first time I’ve heard of the new Ratchet and Clank game. Either way I am liking a lot of what I’ve seen and maybe, just maybe, they actually saved video games
I'm hopeful that Angela Cross returns as a connecting element of the classic trilogy, but she's absolutely livid at Ratchet for stranding her at the beginning of 3 (right when Lombaxes were then hunted universe-wide). Have her return as the Masked Thief, doing freelance work to make ends meet, who Ratchet doesn't even recognise the synthesised voice of Rodger Bumpass. Only when the mask is off, does he realise he has a boss fight on his hands that he rightfully had coming.
Yeah, not gonna lie, this is about the only sequel I see actually delivering this year because from the trailers alone I can already tell TfB nailed this.
Spectacular Spiderman will always be the best adaptation- and why none of the supposed fans can recognise how much the home series is taking constructive notes from why that works is beyond me. The newest cartoons really are terrible tho hahahaha

What i am most excited for, granted if Microsoft will ever kick Activision in the pants and tell them to let Beenox stop squashing grapes for their wine and come out of the basement, is seeing what a new CTR title can bring to the table. Recently got back into it and i am still baffled by just how much of Crash's history was brought back from the grave, and simultaneously, all that we still haven't gotten, And just how little it feels like Beenox scraped the bottom of the barrel even when they absolutely where, not because they where even down to that point yet, but because they knew people wanted to see what they could do with what was down there. Nitro kart 2 feels like a bootleg title more than any other game in the franchise and i was still clambering for Yaya panda to make her triumphant return, and even now have warmed up to the idea of many characters that i originally prayed would never get brought back for some reason. (I had weird standards, okay?) Not to mention, i really wanna see some of the characters who's designs i don't think work so well in Nitro fueled be redesigned to fit with the current art style, i say glaring at Baby Coco and her disturbing looking gums and early stage balding. Not to mention that now with Crash of the titans and Mind of Mutant enemies being put in the table with Scorporilla in Crash on the run, and with It's about time introducing some new faces to get excited over, there are now plenty more potential characters for Beenox or whoever to pull from for future content. I am excited at the prospect of people begging Beenox to put the Snurgle in a car, and i kinda wouldn't mind seeing characters like Nitro crab and Araknid from Crash on the run become racers, if i'm being honest. (Still not sure how i feel about Pink Elephant but i think they could make that one work some how... Maybe put him in a grand Prix with the babies and give him a plushie legendary skin or something.) I don't know if we will be seeing another Crash game in general for another 20 years or so, let alone a new CTR, but if we do, i am excited to see what Beenox can bring to the table when told to go all out and create a brand new experience. What tracks they will make, what kind of new Grand Prixs we might get to bear witness to, what new car designs we could get to see. I'm just hoping that we get to be excited for CTR content again before i turn 40, honestly. I'm ready to see what a new CTR could look like. Oh and i didn't find a way to work it into what i was saying, but i wanna see the rest of the tag team racing cars get made into go kart designs. I'm sure they could find a way to make them all work. I just want the Zwegato and CRster specifically.
Good commentary. I think you, unlike basically every creator I know, views new releases with a bit of realistic scepticism, as opposed to the general "It looks awesome, look at the graphics, can't wait"- kind of optimism many other gaming channel creators employ. You try to look a bit beneath the surface, beyond what nostalgia and personal preference dictate. I also noticed it when you made the video about the lack of polish on the N-Sane Trilogy, which provided a depth most commentaries never even reach, which is also why I subbed. Or, maybe I'm just wrong and like people who nitpick, lol. But, I think this kind of perspective is exactly what's missing in the current UA-cam mainstream

Thanks very much- I'm very excited, but I've been burnt many times before, and I only think it's worth speaking if there's something constructive to offer. I hope it shows at least that I never want to just criticise for the sake of clout, I genuinely want to see great games and I'm thrilled I can speak positively about this game so far.
I feel like the only company doing remakes right at the moment is the company that effectively started this recent boom: Activision. Why? Because... well, for a start, look at Nitro-Fueled. That's gone BEYOND just being CTR and is effectively it's own game now! And from what we've seen of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2... yep, it's the same deal. It's not just classic Pro Skater; it's pretty much a best-of game wrapped up in the remake skin!
IF you want to watch the Digimon movie, but also be seen in public just watch SUmmer Wars. Its the same movie made by the same guy, but without Angela Anaconda tied to it. (or Digimon for that matter)

Game looks fantastic, there isn't much to say really, if the game delivers on the level it's being presented it might spark a little revival for the genre even, so please just buy it; take also into account that this is the first "post-remakes" game, if this goes well all the others, such as new Spyro, new Medievil etc. will be taken into account, so buy the game.
Preorder now to get 5 new skins, including 1 that has in game effects, but it's only available from this one retailer, who's charging extra for the privilege. Also, in game Micro Trans Woompas, with them purchasable in lots of 10 for a dollar, or 15 for 100 dollars...I'm exaggerating, but still, it is actiblizz.

Console to PC ports usually take a while, that's all. They'll prob start working on the port (or rather, the team they'll likely hire will) after it releases on consoles, and they get some sales income.
While I do like game overall, I do have some problems with it. The slide looks unremsponsive along with the jump. Some of the animation for characters moving are way to fast. Especially walking, crash looks like he is sliding all the time, like he is on pare of roller skates. And when it comes to the artstyle, I am fine with it overall, but some things, like alternative levels, give me some kind of migrane while looking at them. And they still can not do water to save there lives. And some levels feel like they have to much of empty space. Still looking forwoard to it. As long as the game is fun to play and as chalenging as originals, I would like to play it.
It's still being developed, small things like that are bound to get touched up and refined, no worries. And with visual stuff, like levels looking too bright or too noisy, that sort of thing is usually from touch ups because they want the trailer to look flashy and exciting. I'm feeling hopeful about this one!
My question is, will Coco actually have justification as a playable character instead of being just a carbon copy of Crash with the same move set and everything? And am I the only one who's getting a Sonic Colours vibe from this game? Nice video B mask
I felt like I was going mad when I saw people praising the new Ratchet trailer. It still feels like Insomniac are chasing Disney and failing, instead of being true to the original games.
I think most of the praise comes from how much the game seems to be taking advantage from the Ps5 hardware, like with the portals instantly teleporting ratchet between different planets.
Most people just see a beautiful and fun action-platformer, and don't really care or know about Ratchet's past as a cynical and genuinely funny satire on consumerism. I can understand that, even if it does make me a little sad.
I think even an ok Ratchet and Clank game like Tools of Destruction for example is something I can get hyped for, it still feels more exciting than a kinda grey uber graphics game that plays itself. Not to say I don't think they need to improve, they really need to at least understand why the original trilogy works so well, but I'll always be excited for a new R&C over many of the alternatives
I mean, even the lesser R&C games are still typically better than the worst games in other franchises... All 4 One and the PSP games notwithstanding...
Based on...? I think the vibe is more reminicent of the Future saga since it's more epic, and features greater sci-fi elements like multiple dimensions. Not to mention showing a new Lombax hints at the Future saga even further.
Imagine this game doing well and inspiring other platforming brands to ditch the remakeitis. A new Jak and Daxter or Sypro would be dope as fuck. Getting my hopes up would be a bad idea though.
I can't see Naughty Dog making that new Jak & Daxter if it does get made though. They seem like they're above the concept of "fun" at this point and would rather just make us all feel bad.

I'd agree to get diddled by old men if they'd get someone to do a Jak & Daxter remake. But I wouldn't be willing to play remakes of the second and third game to get diddled by old men. Those never did feel as good as the first one, clunky as it was. I did play them, but they lost the charm of the first, unlike diddling.

Ever since I saw the art style I’ve been waiting for a video from you on it!
A big thing I’d want from Spyro 4 is a more connected world and story. Unlike Crash, each Spyro game more or less forgot the game that came before. Aside from Hunter and Zoe being consistent between 2 and 3, you had the dragons and dragon worlds being gone from 2 and Elora and the Professor almost appearing as only an afterthought in 3. I want Spyro 4 to use the toolbox of characters it has as opposed to adding too many new faces. What if Sgt Byrd has settled into the Dragon Worlds and is training some Peacekeepers? What if the dragons actually play a role in the story now that they don’t need to be saved, maybe appearing as NPCs in some levels? Stuff like that.
I love how they easily could have had gone "All the post Naughty Dog games suck" but instead they acknowledge everything in the franchise.

I'm still holding on hope, that they'll get to remake Medievil 2 and then move on to a new Medievil game. I actually forgot a new Ratchet & Clank game was a thing, I played the last one and wasn't that impressed. Crash 4 though, feels good man.
Honestly, Crash 4 and Oddworld Soulstorm are looking great because they're actually breathing new life into their old properties. Rift Apart looks cool, but is still more of the same, leaving old fans behind for this new direction the franchise has been obsessed with for years, I just hope that they execute it well this time.
Soulstorm is a remake though. Or I guess more so a reimagining because they’re redoing the entire series besides strangers to create the new quintology
@@bigpenny8223 Yes, but they're still going for a change in both gameplay and tone. The stories in the franchise have always been dark, but Soulstorm seems to be delving somewhere darker. As for the gameplay, it seems like they've kept Abe's gameplay familiar, yet have added more layers of complexity and new mechanics.
Whereas Ratchet hasn't really changed all that much and has just been kinda existing, sequel after sequel, never doing anything bold.
Crash could be interpreted the same way, but considering how many spin-offs that franchise has had, I think its appropriate that its next game feels like a soft reboot.
Übermensch61 I don’t think we’ve really seen enough of soulstorms gameplay is saying anything and I’d also say soulstorm seems just as dark as the rest of the series and the only area it’s more dark and dirtied up is In the visuals having the character models be far more grotesque but like I don’t think you can go much darker then sewing an entire races eyes shut so they can mine their own species graveyards for their bones and then having freed members of those species becoming addicted to the drink made from said bones. Or a whole race of fish being driven to near extinction minus 1.

Let’s hope Activision actually bothers with a PC port for this game. Yes, N Sane and Reignited both got PC ports, but not only were both ports very bare-bones, but Activision have outright stated that they aren’t bringing CTR NF to PC, and I’m not even sure if they’ll bother with Crash 4
We still might get Crash 4 on PC. I think the only reason they were so afraid to shove CTR onto PC was because they feared hackers and modders would just bypass their microtransaction BS and slow ass grind for coins.
As long as Crash 4 isn't riddled with microtransactions I think they'll port it to PC eventually.

I feel like the distinction has to be made between the Ratchet reboot and the shift in tonality that came with the Future games.
Because Rift Apart *does* continue the tone and continuity of the Future Saga, clearly not the reboot. And I dunno, I kinda feel like conflating the two as B-Mask does is a bit disingenuous?
If you don't like the vibe of the Future games, that's cool. For what it's worth I think the PS2 entries were smarter and more biting as well, but I think the direction they took it with the Future games was a valid one and if that's what they want Ratchet to be now, I'm fine with that.
I guess tl;dr, Future Saga =/= Reboot Ratchet and Rift Apart is clearly more the former than the latter.

EDIT: Just an observation but I find it weird B-Mask is so accommodating to fans of the Post-Warped Crash games but not to people who genuinely like the Ratchet Future games despite them being FAR better received. I dunno, just weird.
I think it's actually a great misdirection to separate the two.
For a while Insomniac tried to back-peddle most of the blame of the movie's issues onto the new team that was attached to them, and TJ Fixman was particularly vocal in denying that his total control of the story would have allowed it to take that shape- but the fact of the matter is that the movie is a product of what the Future series had done to Ratchet. It went out of its way to retcon many elements of the past to bring them up to code, and judging by the leaked bits of script I saw for the Fixman plan, we were not getting anything better had they pressed on with their take. All poisonous fruits of the same tree.
I think the most damning thing is comparing the evolving art style of the future series to the PS5 game's trailer. I was actually really into what Creaturebox were doing as the games went on, and by Into the Nexus they'd carved themselves a great style that was incredibly fun to look at and see move. Rift Apart's SO much closer to the movie's more ultra detailed, standardised style than the later Future series games, and I think it's to a massive detriment, pushes closer to Cameron's Avatar than it does Ratchet. In that regard, the new game screams the movie's direction far more than the future direction, which fundamentally isn't separated enough in its approach to truly get into.
I'm more accommodating of the later Crash games because I see the value. Each has something I think Crash 4 benefits from, and looking into their histories you see a bunch of small teams with different ideas that have had a positive impact on the series in spite of the cold hard numbers they spun in sales and review scores. Insomniac's later ratchets all feel like they're just going through the motions, each game losing a piece of what made it special initially, and from my interaction with the fans who still buy them, they would eat the next ratchet game up if it was a cardboard box with clank crudely painted on the top, so I know first hand that Insomniac is validated in not feeling like they have to try anything new.
I'm not against people wanting to play them, but i'm not gonna come out and say 'well audience and review scores are good so I guess more power to em.' It's a series I liked, I have a preferred direction, i'd be lying if I didn't vocalise that. Best thing I can do is mention it in this video and walk away for good.
Yeah, he goes about not making assumptions or big speculations about Crash 4 but then criticizes Rift Apart because he aparently "can tell" it's like the movie inspired reboot.

@@BMask I think that's applying a bit of retroactive reasoning to things. It's very easy to look at the movie and it's accompanying game and then look back at the Future games and go "ah, it was going in this direction all along!" and like, to an extent that's true but I think the degree matters.
The future games were a different take, but I think a respectable one. Plus I think Deadlocked was kind of the logical end point of the themes the old games had so what else does one do, either end things for good or find a new direction. Maybe the former would've been the move that had more artistic integrity, but I don't fault them for trying new things.
Which is basically the same situation Crash found itself in post-Warped, the only difference seems to be how much you personally like the results.
If the Future Saga and the reboot are both things you dislike, that's entirely fair and I understand why. But acting like they're the exact same thing is just going a stretch too far. There's a reason people generally like the former and not as much the latter. That obviously depends on who you're talking to, but I think that's a fair enough consensus.
Not disputing your opinion, I just think "Future Saga and reboot are the same direction" goes beyond being an opinion into being straight up misinformation.

You have to remember, i've been following the series with everyone else as things moved forward, and I'm not saying 'oh, it was always planned this way', I'm saying 'it doesn't surprise me that we came to this point', this is a continuation of how I've always felt. Respectable take and trying new things is also debatable. My feeling has always been that Ratchet essentially became the same game several times over, stuffed with a bunch of ideas we'd seen elsewhere, and better. People are all welcome to say the sky is green, but it doesn't change my feeling that this isn't true and saying so. The movie game feels VERY similar to what I didn't like about the Future series, and you saying it doesn't seem so doesn't really sway me, given i've experienced them all myself.
I'm also seeing a misrepresentation of what I must think. Seeing the value is not the same as saying I liked everything that happened to Crash post warped. I think WOC, CNK and Titans are awful, but I see things in them I think are valuable, and i'm here to discuss that in relation to crash 4. Either way, I don't think it's really much of an issue that I like one and say so and don't like another and say so.

loved this, really excited for the game as well! As someone who never played the original Crash games- just the remake and I hated it- this looks a lot more likable. Ratchet is pretty much doing the same thing tho. The PS4 game is like the PS2 Crash games. Rift Apart is continuing the story where it left off in 2013 while also happening to make a lot of callbacks since the "reboot" gained a lot of new fans. So basically the same but the Ratchet "spin-off" was a lot more recent and the next game needs to play off of that more appropriately. I think both will be fantastic and extremely satisfying to fans. Especially Ratchet, at least from a story perspective.

I like that we've finally broken away from the N.Sane style and we get to see something new and weird again. I really don't get why people want to stay in the NST prison forever. That game already looks dated and the style of it was really tone-deaf comparing it to all canon Crash games. The only thing I'm worried TFB could fuck up apart from the gameplay is the post-ND canon. I don't want Twinsanity banished into an "alternate dimension" where it's still canon but not really

Whenever we talk about these PS2 platformer remakes/revivals I have the same two thoughts: A. I will not forgive what was done to my prickly Lombax buddy, and do not recognize this overly shiny pretender and B. When the nostalgia wave eventually wets the feet of the Sly Cooper franchise, I’ll be curious to see how Thieves in Time will be handled. Does it get the non canon treatment? I think that wondering just stems from my general feeling that there’s not much to go back to with Sly Cooper. It was such a character focused series anyway, and the characters completed their arcs in 3. We got the taking of the sequel hook 3 left dangling in 4 and we all know how that turned out. What left is there for Sly and the Gang to do? Idk, I’m sure we’ll get an overly polished Illumination Studios-looking remaster in a couple years and I’ll be too busy being annoyed to care about the future anyway.
See, I agree and disagree regarding Sly. Yes, the arcs were completed in 3, it didn't need to continue, but that doesn't mean there isn't more that could be done, if handled with care. The problem with 4 wasn't that it followed up on the sequel hooks left in 3, it's that it did so badly. Sly 3 left the franchise in a tricky situation, but honestly I think Sly 4's plot would have served it pretty well, if the writing were more competent.
Seeing Sly's ancestors would be a good way of exploring the theme of legacy further. How did they respond to/treat the Cooper legacy? What about them became part of the canon, and what was lost to time? Sanzaru sort of claimed they were going to tackle that, but they really didn't give interesting answers to those questions, because despite the lip service, it doesn't feel like they really considered them. Frick, even Riochi cannibalizing his never-before-referenced partner is treated as a throw-away gag, when an event like that should be core to the character.
Le Paradox's basic backstory of "son of a screwed-over thief who clawed his way to greatness" is a perfect setup for an evil Sly situation, which of course means at least some exploration of who Sly's character is. What does it mean to be "Sly but evil"? What is it that makes one adrenaline-junkie thief who lost his father and built up a gang of master criminals to perform the biggest heist of their lives the villain, and the other not? And his plot to steal the Cooper's legacy itself practically begs for Paradox to throw Sly's old mantra back in his face: "don't you get it? there's no fun in stealing from ordinary people, but to steal from the best of the best? Then you know you're a master thief".
Even smaller things could have been interesting: Ok, so Grizz is just a Dimitri-clone who has found a way to make the world love his art, by turning it into cultural heritage sites. How does Dimitri react to that, to seeing someone much like his younger self accomplish what he wanted at that time better than he ever could have?
And that's not even getting into Sly and Carmelita's relationship, which is a thorny problem but not impossible. They both lied to each other, they both love each other. It just needs to be handled with more adult nuance than "Sly gets back into thievery because he's bored and then Carmelita sleeps around with all his ancestors to make him jealous", which just ruins both of their characters.
the main problem is even with sequel hooks in 3 it still had an ending that could finish the series 4 doesn't it has a cliff hanger that will never be followed up on. if they made a remake 4 still has that cliff hanger and maybe it would just be better to write it off as a trilogy instead
I think Remakes are good for one thing and that's helping people understand how to make a game and how a franchise was built so in case of Crash 4 it's being made by people who basically understand they previous games more than most other people. Yes, remakes can be shallow and not really all there but so is everything else in a way. It's kinda like copying a painting/illustration to understand what techniques the original artist used to be a better artist in a way.
Tho it's being made by a different studio than N. Sane.
I'm actually pretty excited for this release (though granted I've never been affiliated with this franchise before the big boom in popularity couple of months before the remakes).

I'm excited for Crash 4 and remain hopefully optimistic that it'll be good. It doesn't have to be great. Just something new and good. As for RaC, I'm more intrigued than excited though that's mainly when it comes to the story department and my love for alternate dimension stories. From what little hints their releasing it's painting the picture that the Nefarious we're going to see isn't /our/ Nefarious but an alternate one that never lost back in Up Your Arsenal which will be very fascinating to see if the hints are indeed correct.

As happy as I am about the prospect of a Spyro 4 I can't help but worry a little that, with Crash 4 being given to Toys For Bob, Spyro 4 is going to be given to Vicarious Visions in what feels like the worst of the two options. Comparing both of their works on Skylanders, Toys For Bob felt like they made the better games and given the stark differences in style between N'Sane and Reignited/Crash 4, I'd be a shame to hand Spyro over to the team that made the former.
Worse. VV is currently working on the Tony Hawk remake which leaves either Beenox or Sanzaru for Spyro 4. Get ready for Spyro 4: Thieves in Time! With 4x the cringe.

I try not to get too excited over new games these days because I think hype can inadvertently raise your standards and if the game fails to meet those high standards, it can feel all the more underwhelming but I cannot lie, I'm actually EXCITED for Crash Bandicoot 4: It's ABout Time. Even if the game doesn't meet all my expectations, the fact that we're actualyl getting a BRAND NEW Crash game and it seems like the Developers actually did their homework on what made the original trilogy Crash games what they were is very promising and invigorating. I agree, the art style is looking amazing while building on the original cartoony style but polishing it and adding more zaniness to the character's expression. I also agree that the music from what they've shown isn't doing anything for myself neither but hey, maybe the other songs will be good. All I know is that I'm already sold on the presentation and I haven't even played the game yet lol. Indeed if this works out then we can safely say that Crash Bandicoot is finally in safe hands with a development team that knows what Crash Bandicoot is all about.
As far as remakes go, while I liked N Sane Trilogy despite the inconsistent art design and I'm enjoying the Spyro Reignited Trilogy from what I've played so far, my opinion mirrored yours that I'd rather see something new now and I'm glad that they didn't go through with remaking Wrath of Cortex like the rumors were suggesting at the time. We need new games. Remakes are fine but not to the point where they are becomign a standard because all that does is it creates burnout and boredom, the "wow" factor is just not there anymore when you overdo it. I'm open to seeing a Crash Bash remake for sure but only after a new Crash game which is what we're getting.
Also your little crack towards Ratchet and Clank, as big of a fan as I am of that series, I have to admit that I'm one of the people who does prefer the old style of the series as well. I've come around to appreciating the Future timeline but the classic games will always be special to me. So fair play on that haha.

I found most of the models in the N. Sane Trilogy pretty good. I'm not the hugest fan of Crash 4's artstyle, I think it's a little too stylised, but it's completely fine too, and they can look really good sometimes.

I'm hopeful that Angela Cross returns as a connecting element of the classic trilogy, but she's absolutely livid at Ratchet for stranding her at the beginning of 3 (right when Lombaxes were then hunted universe-wide). Have her return as the Masked Thief, doing freelance work to make ends meet, who Ratchet doesn't even recognise the synthesised voice of Rodger Bumpass. Only when the mask is off, does he realise he has a boss fight on his hands that he rightfully had coming.

I don't think I'll ever make a full blown spidey ps4 video, but it'll probably come up again somewhere. MCU's Spidey I absolutely want to do a video on though.
@@duncanohoge Homecoming was a terrible Spidey film so I suspect he just has bad taste when it comes to the character. Outside of the crossover Avenger movies, they've mangled Peter's character.
What i am most excited for, granted if Microsoft will ever kick Activision in the pants and tell them to let Beenox stop squashing grapes for their wine and come out of the basement, is seeing what a new CTR title can bring to the table. Recently got back into it and i am still baffled by just how much of Crash's history was brought back from the grave, and simultaneously, all that we still haven't gotten, And just how little it feels like Beenox scraped the bottom of the barrel even when they absolutely where, not because they where even down to that point yet, but because they knew people wanted to see what they could do with what was down there. Nitro kart 2 feels like a bootleg title more than any other game in the franchise and i was still clambering for Yaya panda to make her triumphant return, and even now have warmed up to the idea of many characters that i originally prayed would never get brought back for some reason. (I had weird standards, okay?)
Not to mention, i really wanna see some of the characters who's designs i don't think work so well in Nitro fueled be redesigned to fit with the current art style, i say glaring at Baby Coco and her disturbing looking gums and early stage balding. Not to mention that now with Crash of the titans and Mind of Mutant enemies being put in the table with Scorporilla in Crash on the run, and with It's about time introducing some new faces to get excited over, there are now plenty more potential characters for Beenox or whoever to pull from for future content. I am excited at the prospect of people begging Beenox to put the Snurgle in a car, and i kinda wouldn't mind seeing characters like Nitro crab and Araknid from Crash on the run become racers, if i'm being honest. (Still not sure how i feel about Pink Elephant but i think they could make that one work some how... Maybe put him in a grand Prix with the babies and give him a plushie legendary skin or something.)
I don't know if we will be seeing another Crash game in general for another 20 years or so, let alone a new CTR, but if we do, i am excited to see what Beenox can bring to the table when told to go all out and create a brand new experience. What tracks they will make, what kind of new Grand Prixs we might get to bear witness to, what new car designs we could get to see. I'm just hoping that we get to be excited for CTR content again before i turn 40, honestly. I'm ready to see what a new CTR could look like.
Oh and i didn't find a way to work it into what i was saying, but i wanna see the rest of the tag team racing cars get made into go kart designs. I'm sure they could find a way to make them all work. I just want the Zwegato and CRster specifically.

Good commentary. I think you, unlike basically every creator I know, views new releases with a bit of realistic scepticism, as opposed to the general "It looks awesome, look at the graphics, can't wait"- kind of optimism many other gaming channel creators employ. You try to look a bit beneath the surface, beyond what nostalgia and personal preference dictate. I also noticed it when you made the video about the lack of polish on the N-Sane Trilogy, which provided a depth most commentaries never even reach, which is also why I subbed. Or, maybe I'm just wrong and like people who nitpick, lol. But, I think this kind of perspective is exactly what's missing in the current UA-cam mainstream

Thanks very much- I'm very excited, but I've been burnt many times before, and I only think it's worth speaking if there's something constructive to offer. I hope it shows at least that I never want to just criticise for the sake of clout, I genuinely want to see great games and I'm thrilled I can speak positively about this game so far.

I feel like the only company doing remakes right at the moment is the company that effectively started this recent boom: Activision.
Why?
Because... well, for a start, look at Nitro-Fueled. That's gone BEYOND just being CTR and is effectively it's own game now!
And from what we've seen of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2... yep, it's the same deal. It's not just classic Pro Skater; it's pretty much a best-of game wrapped up in the remake skin!
Insomniac tried to make Rift Ya a New One the most approachable Ratchet game in the series and that kinda obviously hurt it in a lot of areas

Honestly even my old video doesn't reflect how much I don't like it. All the small positives I once gave it melted away on a full replay two years back. Awful sequel.

Given the reception of The Last of Us 2, how long before we go from "All Crash games post-Naughty Dog suck" to "All Naughty Dog games post-Crash suck"?
Game looks fantastic, there isn't much to say really, if the game delivers on the level it's being presented it might spark a little revival for the genre even, so please just buy it; take also into account that this is the first "post-remakes" game, if this goes well all the others, such as new Spyro, new Medievil etc. will be taken into account, so buy the game.

Console to PC ports usually take a while, that's all. They'll prob start working on the port (or rather, the team they'll likely hire will) after it releases on consoles, and they get some sales income.
The general reason is so people double-dip on games, it's a smart business strategy even though it sucks for fans.

The only thing that doesn't really feel like Crash are the cutscenes. They feel very... Spyro. With all this talking, and jokes, and stuff.

While I do like game overall, I do have some problems with it. The slide looks unremsponsive along with the jump. Some of the animation for characters moving are way to fast. Especially walking, crash looks like he is sliding all the time, like he is on pare of roller skates. And when it comes to the artstyle, I am fine with it overall, but some things, like alternative levels, give me some kind of migrane while looking at them. And they still can not do water to save there lives. And some levels feel like they have to much of empty space.
Still looking forwoard to it. As long as the game is fun to play and as chalenging as originals, I would like to play it.
It's still being developed, small things like that are bound to get touched up and refined, no worries. And with visual stuff, like levels looking too bright or too noisy, that sort of thing is usually from touch ups because they want the trailer to look flashy and exciting. I'm feeling hopeful about this one!

I felt like I was going mad when I saw people praising the new Ratchet trailer. It still feels like Insomniac are chasing Disney and failing, instead of being true to the original games.
I think most of the praise comes from how much the game seems to be taking advantage from the Ps5 hardware, like with the portals instantly teleporting ratchet between different planets.
Most people just see a beautiful and fun action-platformer, and don't really care or know about Ratchet's past as a cynical and genuinely funny satire on consumerism. I can understand that, even if it does make me a little sad.
I think even an ok Ratchet and Clank game like Tools of Destruction for example is something I can get hyped for, it still feels more exciting than a kinda grey uber graphics game that plays itself. Not to say I don't think they need to improve, they really need to at least understand why the original trilogy works so well, but I'll always be excited for a new R&C over many of the alternatives
I mean, even the lesser R&C games are still typically better than the worst games in other franchises... All 4 One and the PSP games notwithstanding...
Based on...? I think the vibe is more reminicent of the Future saga since it's more epic, and features greater sci-fi elements like multiple dimensions. Not to mention showing a new Lombax hints at the Future saga even further.
