I'll try and look into that deeper, just on the face of it the kit is copyrighted 2001 I believe, I'm away for the weekend and can't check it at this moment, but I will. I'll get back to you on that. Model on my friend!!
You are RIGHT Rick, the lower hull is from 1987! But many other parts are the updated ones for the 105mm, it becomes a little hazy on how to decide when these types of kits are new or old. As for this one it's a mix for sure. Thanks for pointing that out my friend. Stay safe and model on!!
You are in for a treat my friend! I have built this one also ( my first winter camo scheme,if i remember correctly). It is an excellent kit, lot of extras that came out to be useful as well. Great review, looking forward to see your progress. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend.
I've built the 75mm version of this kit. It's anice kit. But your going to have to add plastic card to the sponsors cause of the gaps from this kit being an old rc model version.
Thanks Rick, yeah, I've been enclosing the sponsons on these, as to it being a battery operated tank like those original lower hulls from the 1970's, this one doesn't have the usual on/off switch slot and the motor mounting holes associated with those old kits. I'm currently away from my bench for the weekend so I can't check the inside of the hull for the molding date, but I'll do that as soon as I get back. The copyright date is 2001 on the box I think. Scalemates seem to lump all of these kits together and puts it at 2002 as a rebox with new parts. I take that to mean some old parts and some new. As a hobbyist and not a historian, either or is ok by me. It is a nice looking kit at any rate. Model on my friend and stay safe!
Hi Johnny. Thats a very nice looking kit. Plenty to get your teeth into. I try to focus on 1/72nd nowadays but I was recently looking through my stash and I noticed that I had 13 Shermans, 13 ! I think that I have them covered. Various manufacturers and different variants. The one thing that I have noticed now is a diminishing supply of stowage, so that is where I have to stock up. Anyway good build and good video. Cheers buddy.
Hi Brian, wow 13 Shermans in the stash, that's a lot! I think I only have 2 in my stash now, a 75 and one of the Israeli Shermans that was a French conversion, which I might need to build sometime in the near future. I always have an eye out for the cast hull Sherman which I don't have presently. This kit comes with nice stowage, something lacking most other kits for sure. Thanks so much for watching and supporting the channel my friend! Take care and model on! Johnny
@@hillbillymodeling Hi Johnny. Yeah 13. I was a bit suprised myself. They are all in 72nd scale. You know what its like , you go to a show and come across a trader who is selling a second hand model cheap. I got some for as little as six pounds ( I don,t know what that is in dollars ) but thats a bargain. Some have etch or other options. I also have a Sherman M32 recovery tank. I,ve got it bad Johnny. Help !😁
@@BrianSanders-tn7pi You're not the only one that has that problem, Brian. I don't usually chase the newest thing, but I do love older kits, I've got 6 large shipping boxes in storage filled to the brim with kits, lol. If I built one kit a month every month, I wouldn't need to buy another kit for the next 20 years! Take care buddy, have a great week! Johnny
Nice detailed reveiw. Great to see that Tamiya have redone the figures. They were the worst part of any of their great kits(well, I think so) Defenetly the next buy and build next kit. I am fighting with a Dragon kit at moment.
Thanks Bob, and what is up with Dragon anyway? I read so many complaints about the instructions and fit issues, for the price I would think they would be great kits like Tamiya. Model on my friend!
@@hillbillymodeling Billy , you answered the question yourself. Tamiya are the best. Dragon, can produce great models, but its a fight. I am building the Panzer IV Ausf.J Late sd.Kfz.162/2 1/35 scale '39- '45 series 6022
No it's a re-release of a kit from 1987, all the extras is what so cool about it
